    Used extra as dog cam
Sometimes hit and miss, either missing action or recording nothing. However I use this particular one to watch my dog if I’m out so battery and recording is no issue to me.

    average security camera
everything is good with this camera, except that it does not record anything more than 5m away. I am using the Arlo Pro cameras and they record moving things 25m away. But this Arlo camera did not record people walking past 6-7m under it. The supplier is happy to accept a return. I will order the Arlo Pro or Arlo Pro 2 to replace it.

    Original but very capable
So this camera has been updated to a newer model, however this is perfectly adequate for my needs. The quality is HD and the night vision is good. They do chew batteries but that depends on the quality of the battery used. Highly recommend for the money.

    Good camera
Handy little system and got this camera to extend our coverage , took a bit of time to sync the new camera and ended up having to re-boot the base unit to get it to recognise it.

    Good when working ok..
These cameras are great when up and running, but can be problematic after a while through going off line and losing hub syncing. I have had four for over 18 months and have had to replace two in this time for these problems…

    Arlo camera
Purchased my third Arlo camera. I’ve had the system for a few months now.
Happy with picture quality and video playback. Although if you can afford the pro 2 its worth the extra cost and it’s easy to recharge the battery.
The new Arlo app needs work though as sometimes you cant access the cameras through the app.
All of them are connected to the hub but the app buffers occasionally and wont show you the feed.
I have one arlo camera in the hallway one in the garden and the pro 2 covering the french doors.
A must for an outdoor camera is a silicone cover. In cold wet or icy conditions it does protect the camera and lengthen battery life.
Battery life is pretty good as you can set sensitivity in the app to factor out vehicles and post through the letterbox etc although we often pick up notifications of a spider on the lens or a bird looking into the camera .
On average the two battery versions last about 3 months and the rechargeable pro 2-3 months.

Good camera - easy set up
Motion detection not as good as the pro 2 which is 3 times the cost so not surprising. Only picks up someone within 7 feet. Battery seems to last 5 times longer than the pro 2 as not trying to do as much – had a camera up for a week and still at 97%. A combination of pro 2 cameras and this earlier version suggested. Very easy set up.

    Arlo wireless camera
We already had one of these but needed one in another part of the garden.
So easy to setup and use as no cabling needed. Only gripe is the couple of second delay on the motion detection but not too much of a problem

    Good at the price
I bought a system of 3 originally and found the set-up to be easy, the wifi range to be good and picture quality to be very good. They look great and work for our domestic needs but I would say the motion triggering distance could be better and the night vision is ok but not startling.
I recently added a 4th camera to the system and initially had problems with the same image being pushed to my mobile phone every few seconds. However, customer support was excellent and although Arlo wanted to replace the camera, it seemed to settle down by itself and now works perfectly. I would recommend rechargeable batteries though.

Batteries last ages. With good ones the life between changing is about 4 weeks for cameras used 24/7.
Easy to install. Simple to access picture archive info and set up system from scratch. Adding extra camera was easy too.
Checking battery life and looking at live action all really user friendly.
Makes living overseas but having a Mum with Alzheimer’s less hard to deal with cos I can see what’s happening at any time. They also give confidence to her carers who feel reassured their visits are also monitored.
Can’t find fault with Arlo system.

Great addition to my cctv system, just wish id bought the next system up with rechargeable battery included. battery life is generally shorter than stated by quite a bit and the cold kills the battery in a couple of days

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersStable software / hardware
This is my 7th Arlo Cam, I have three Arlo Q’s and this is now my 4th wireless. Setup is even easier now, just switch on, let it update software and away you go. For security and keeping an eye on my dogs these are pretty decent. Negatives are that night vision isn’t great and I have an infrared floodlight bought here to help illuminate better. Overall for a stable, hassle free solution, these are good.

Can get confused, but is easy to use
The camera is good and is easy to connect to an existing system. It can detect what is senses so if it’s an animal or a person or a vehicle although it sometimes gets a little confused. Although all in all it’s pretty good. It’s weather proof I have mine both indoors and outdoors and they are all okay so far.

  14. DarnellHarkins says:

Good, but better as secondary cameras
I bought three of these initially, on price as much cheaper than the Pro cameras. Very easy to set up and install. I purchased Arlo’s official threaded adjustable mount to position them outdoors. Cameras attached easily.
Picture quality of the camera is fine, but infra-red sensing is a little slow. Replaced two cameras with Arlo Pro 2 in new year sale and moved the original cameras indoors, setting them to be triggered by the external cameras (e.g. when motion detected at back of house, it triggers camera through patio window). In this scenario, they work very well. Battery life good so far. App works well, despite negative views in Android app store. Overall, working well for me, though costs more than I usually like to pay for tech.

Golden Review Award: 29 From Our UsersGreat buy! So far so good!
So far so good! A little concerned with so many negative reviews (I will update my review after one month) My neighbours have the same set up, they have had no problems with theirs and are happy (they are ex police), so I decided to go for these and the 3 camera set up… I’ve had this up for a week. Took 5mins to set up, it’s extemely easy. Takes longer to insert the batteries than connect the system up. Then another 10 mins to drill the holes for the camera brackets/holders and screw the cameras on (I purchased the screw in brackets) but the magnet ones are very strong and hold the cameras easily without any fear of them falling off. Camera quality is very good and a good wide angle. Night vision is ok, not brilliant! .. my only complaint so far is that there is a few seconds lag sometimes when the camera has picked up and detected a motion on it, on occasion it’s taken 10 seconds to after notify me or let me view what’s going on, (this doesn’t happen every time, just occasionally) .. Batteries seem very good, I’m still on 90,% on all three cameras which are left on 24/7 and pick up approx 30 to 50 detections a day and record for 120 seconds each time… The live feed has worked excellent, one click and I can watch a live feed off each camera. Overall, I’m very happy with my purchase! All in all, it took 30 mins at the most from opening the box, to plugging in the box, inserting batteries, connecting and hanging the cameras up and installing the app… Great buy so far!

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersReally good system when used with SmartThings
I think it’s a really good system. Especially when tied in with SmartThings (which it supports nativley) . The only problem is there’s a 2 second delay from when it detects motion to when it starts to record so you need to consider the camera placement carefully and have a few cameras set to record , i.e. if camera A detects motion then record from camera A,B and C so the others are already recording. You can see this in the attached video how far he got down the path before the recording started. If he was running it probably would have missed him.

I have mine tied in to SmartThings for my alarms etc and caught someone trying to break in, Arlo detected the motion and recorded it, SmartThings set the sirens and light off that scared him off. Fortunately I found him round the corner trying to break into a van and it’s safe to say he won’t be back.. for the price it would be nice if they came with a cover and one of the metal stands as a white camera that only has a magnet isn’t much of a security camera..

    Good for very small areas
Solid, quality build, easy to set up. (BUT turns out I had an old Netgear account so the app wouldn’t let me sign up. That took 5 minutes to sort online.)
The push notifications are bizarre since, unless unless nothing moves, you get bombarded with texts and/or emails. I had to search online to find how to turn them off. Even then the software is bizarre – you switch them OFF and save, but when you go back to the page to check they show as ON again!
My system is fresh out of the box so I can’t comment on sound quality or battery life, but I can comment on the field of view.
A lot of people seem to love wide-angle lenses because you see, well, a wide angle. But you can’t have your cake and eat it, so you sacrifice a lot of detail. Even with zooming in on high-def you won’t have a mission getting facial recognition unless the subject is really close.
It remains to be seen how useful the recording is (Netgear gives you a free basic cloud subscription). How likely is an incident to be recorded? How likely is it you can find it? How easy is it to download and save important or incriminating footage? I’ll report back.
But 1st impressions are this is well-made, truly wireless and so wonderfully convenient, and ok for a back yard; but it won’t take the place of proper security TV.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersWould not be without my Arlo monitoring system
Great piece of kit. The price is a bit steep but the picture quality is very good. I am so impressed with the 5 cameras and free subscription that I have now upgraded to the next plan and bought 2 more cameras.

I particularly like the features. Right from my iPad at work I get notifications of an activation and I can turn on/off night vision, download the video clip to my iPad, change the length of recording time, reduce the picture quality to save battery life, change the sensitivity of the moti9n detection. All this from work.

The camera has a wider field of view than you might think. Stand in front of the camera and you think the camera can just see you but when you look back at the footage, Arlo can see way beyond to the sides of you.

The best part for me is being totally wireless and of course waterproof. I can place the cameras where ever I like within my WiFi range which so far has been anywhere on my property outside without loss of connection.

Also I can make any of the cameras trigger by adding the Arlo security light.

The option to ask Alexa to show camera images is great as well. I pick up an amazon fire pad or fire stick remote, ask Alexa to show “front door” and within seconds the front door camera displays an live image, Amazing right!

The battery life is poor. You can lower the sensitivity, picture quality, recording time etc to help improve recording times. The Winter vastly reduces battery time, so much so that last Winter I stopped changing batteries for a while so had no system running. Batteries are very expensive and I found them hard to source. Now I have changed to rechargeable batteries and I purchased enough spares to have pre charged batteries ready for all 7 cameras. No more paying high prices for batteries. When one camera needs changing, I change all 7 for piece of mind.

Sometimes the system goes down and there is no picture from one camera or all cameras. I just turn the Arlo hub off and on, the whole system reboots and works again. Some times you will lose one camera signal due to the WiFi signal to that camera getting low but it will return when the signal gets stronger.

Overall I prefer this system over the others on the market. The features are great. My system has no sound and I would have preferred two way audio. The system with audio is expensive though.

I will be purchasing more cameras soon and upgrading to the next plan. Good job Netgear! Highly recommended.

Best Wireless HD security camera I can find
This camera is a good value camera with good quality HD but this model does not have sound. I have had my camera’s for over 3xyears now but 2 have failed. One just stopped working but it was outside 24/7 and in all weathers. It was outside the 1xyear warranty period , so did what stated and the other lost its colour and was in a pink haze but you could still make the picture out. I replaced it with like for like and at a good price of 79.99. Easy to set up to , to your original base station.

Ask yourself what you want from camera
Had security cameras before, better night viewing ability but in terms of setup and ability to avoid drilling cables through walls this proved to be perfect for what needed; i.e., deterant. An alarm warns, a lock prevents entry, and a camera deters and collects information o help police if anyone gets past first too. Remember if someone wants to get in they will. I placed a camera supported with security light at rear of garden to improve a poor night light. The front camera is in porch looking at anyone approaching door and help reduce being accidentally activated by people and cars going past driveway as live on main road. The delay between seeing and recording is about 3-4 seconds so placement important to be somewhere to be activated and time to record. In summary works well as deterant and ability to record if placed well. Battery life sufficient if positioned not to readily be overly activated. For those who stick with magnetic mounts (which work well and adjusts well) remember even if someone steals the camera the video is stored in cloud for minimum of a week for free (so unlike other cameras which store a microSD card it’s not the end of the world) bottom line think specifically what you want from a system. This works for me although pigeons (I have loads in garden) repeatedly activatated camera regardless of sensitivity, something I hope to remedy by real fling away from top of fence.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersPurchace and cost of ownership high, simple installation and setup but still over priced.
Great product in principal virtually plug in and go. However they go through lots of batteries if triggered frequently, mine last a couple of months a battery averages around 2 on Amazon and you need 4 of them. I have bought Keenstone rechargeables at about 20 per camera which has added to the overall cost. In addition, i think picture quality could be better but that’s just subjective. Buying the new generation would solve both problems but they are stupidly expensive still. Personally I think they do the job and are dead simple but perhaps I should have done more research before investing so much. Come on Netgear, make it easy for potential new customers! Drop your prices and make it easy to choose your product.

    Good product easily installed.
Very easy to set up and sync with separate base unit and app. Suffered from pink tint while positioning. Resolved by removing batteries for a minute and then reinstalling. Suggest that night vision is switched off while positioning and avoid pointing towards the sun. Unit works very well and notification is pretty immediate. It waits a couple of seconds before recording after motion detected. Good functionality in the app if you can find it. Look under Mode program and look for the pencil symbol. Only recently got it so cannot comment on battery life but if it continues to work this well may well consider ordering one or two extra cameras.

Love these cameras. Been using on house for months now. High quality colour picture, wireless, battery life is at least a month. That last my only down – night time is good but not great.

Really impressed with the picture quality didn’t really expect it to be so clear. Brilliant that you can monitor on your android devices. The only annoying thing is it says compatible with Alexa, we have 4, however none of our firesticks (3) were compatible, only 1 year old, so we gave had to buy another. In addition to that thd price of thix hsd gone up considersbly in a few days. Will wait it out before buying 2 of e more.

Great camera system but watch out for . . .
The true cordless capability of these cameras is great and the settings available excellent. The downsides are that you’re 100% reliant on Netgear’s servers being online and the aren’t always. Also, you must have the ‘Pro’ version of the base station to get local, auto’ recording to USB.

We bought this one as an addition to our already existing two camera system from Arlo.
We use it for several years now after having an intruder in the garden, that was very scary and since then we have got the cameras.
It gives me peace of mind to get alerts on my mobile phone when I’m in or out of the house to see what’s happening at home and in the garden area.
And it’s useful to see where the parcel man hides the parcels!

I’ve bought many security cameras in the past and most seldom seem to live up to my expectations. These however tick every box. So easy to set up and install. The batteries last for me about 4 – 5 months and I’ve since replaced them all with rechargeables which save money. The application is again easy to use and provides all the information you’d need. Absolutely delighted with the Arlo Smart Home system, it actually takes longer to un-box the items than it takes to set them up.
We initially installed 3 camera and where so pleased with the quality and the fact that the only wires are the power and wifi connection for the base station. Wire free is definitely the way to go.

    It Works!
Amazed to say it works! Was very skeptical. Would it pick up the WIFI signal, would it take hours to set up, is the footprint of the house too wide for Cameras to communicate with the Base Station?

Firstly the Cameras look nice but they arrive in loads of the usual over packaging. Once opened, the instructions are simple and sync with the base station is easy. We got range extenders for our WIFI so it took 5 minutes to figure out which signal was best. After that it was so easy to set up each Camera.

I bought additional camera mounts for mounting away from the Wall. Pleased I did as while the Arlo mounts are great, the Magnetic hold on the Canera isn’t sufficient for all offset angles you wish to point the camera.

Start to finish and set up of the base station and 5 cameras took me less than an hour. 10 minutes was set up and linking the cameras to the base station, the rest was drilling holes in the wall to mount cameras.

It’s been working without problems for 3 months. We have captured everything from Moths to Bats to Spiders and even several times caught the Muntjac deer. One Tip, you have to adjust the Camera sensitivity. Best way to do this is trial and error. Let it run for a day and if it’s picking up light changes (yes I’ve had 100 recordings on one camera from sunlight) then dial down the sensitivity 5% and see what happens the next day!

The battery’s seem to last forever even with me tuning in to live feeds once a day while on holiday for 5 minutes. It’s also got another nifty feature which is that it shows you Battery Power left so you know when to change Batteries. It’s not mains fed which is why it’s easy to set up but anyone with any concerns over Battery longevity, relax cos it’s fine.

I gave it 4 stars cos of the magnetic mounts which is the only thing I would criticise about it. Great little product, works really well.

Golden Review Award: 38 From Our UsersA great wireless CCTV solution but with limited night time range
I had quotes from local chaps to supply and fit a CCTV system and the prices quoted for four cameras ranged from 650 to 750 for the cameras and 1TB recorder. I heard about the Arlo system from a neighbour and after some investigating I went ahead and saved hundreds of pounds and bought the Arlo system. I bought 5 cameras – four for each side of my house and one for the living room.

It was so simple to set up; the cameras were live and recording within a few minutes. The base unit is connected to your wifi router with the cable provided. Each camera can then be paired with the base unit – similar to pairing your mobile phone in your car – the base unit and camera find each other once you click a button. I downloaded the Arlo app for my tablet. Because I was on the same wifi system my tablet was automatically paired by the Arlo app. After setting up a password and verifying via email, the app opens up on the tablet so that one can then view the images from the cameras. The user can allow others to access the cameras by sending them an email with a link embedded. Easy as falling off a log.

Each camera can be individually named – “patio”, “garage” etc. The whole system can be administered online – e.g. what time each camera should switch on and off, quality of the video, whether you want email notification or not etc. If you are in the house, to save battery life the cameras can be put on standby so they will not record. If you leave the house and have forgotten to switch on your cameras its easy to switch them on remotely from the app. The app monitors battery life so you know if a particular camera needs new batteries. The system is made by Netgear so no surprises that the software works so well. All recordings are saved on the cloud and automatically deleted after a set period. Easy to search recordings by date and time. I switched off the email notification because I was getting too many.

The main flaw I found is that the cameras need to be close to the door being monitored. The first camera I fixed was too high up so had a wide view of the both the back door and french windows but it would have been hard to make out the features of the intruders. I moved the camera closer to the patio doors but now have a restricted view (back door not fully in view) and it means that anyone can reach up and steal the camera.

Night viewing is restricted further by the limited range of the infra red light on the camera. This again forces one to fix the camera low down and so the camera itself becomes an easy item to steal. Especially because the fittings provided with the camera are just magnetic so with little effort the camera can be removed from its base – see photo attached.

The fittings provided are useless. Firstly, as discussed above the cameras can literally be pulled from the wall mount because the magnet at the back of the camera attaches to the metal, dome shaped wall mount. The wall mount is fixed to the wall with a single screw. This meant that when I attached the heavy camera to the dome shaped wall mount the camera simply flopped down and could not be positioned at an angle. Given that each camera costs 90 the single screw on the wall mount did not give me any assurance that a strong gust of wind would not blow the mount – and camera – off the wall and lead to a broken camera.

I forked out for the more robust wall mounts available from Black Arlo Cam Smart Security Wall Mount- Adjustable Indoor/Outdoor Mount for Arlo Cam and Other Compatible Models by Dropcessories . This has a three screw fixing so is very securely attached to the wall and also raises the camera about 10cms from the wall so that one does not get a view of the brickwork. The ball and socket fixture means that the camera can be adjusted to any needed angle. Also, the camera is firmly screwed to the wall mounting so making it a little harder to steal; thieves would need to reach up and unscrew the camera.

Overall, a great product and great software to support it. I did not give it 5 stars because of the limited range at night and poor wall mountings provided.

Well it took a little longer that 10 mins to set up BUT i was successful without having to resort to calling for support.

I opened the package and FOLLOWED the instructions (some people would say “MISTAKE”! but he what follow the instructions until all fails or does not do what instructions say!
My first problem was a flashing USB light on the front, after the power light and camera lights were steady green, and NO Sync light on router for camera.
Check connections and camera lights all OK switch off and try again NO way passed the wait for camera sync lights!
Next press reset on rear of router and go through motions! NO.
Turn off system, complete the registration and accept the email account and start again!
    All working then, conclusion:-
Does not sync cameras until you have accepted the account after email.
    Next check system all functioning.
Yes slight delay but less than 10 seconds on real time.
No the system does not detect movement through, glass single, double or triple and the company tel you that on there web page. BUT yes you can see in real or delayed live time!
I fitted the metal ball backs for camera and seem OK for indoor at least.
I fitted a “recommended” screw and ball fitting for outside wall and i would definitely NOT recommend anyone wasting their monies on that item.
I am still looking for a better more robust fixture for the camera outside.
So will now test the battery life and on change requirement look at fitting new outside fixture.
BUT i have at last found out how out cat “knocks” the door to get into the house!

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersNetgear Arla two-cam system – very impressed so far (plus update)
My Netgear Arlo two-camera system was delivered today so this review is for setup and first impressions. I’ll update it when I’ve used the cameras for a few weeks. I’ll break up my review into sections and I’ll keep it brief.

    Packaging and setup:
Fuss-free packaging with everything easy to open and access. First thing I did was crack open the cameras and check out the base station. Nothing complicated about the setup although there’s no instruction manual in the box. The installation video on the Netgear site recommends downloading the Arlo mobile app (I’m iOS), which, once done, makes setup a breeze. Follow the on-screen instructions and it’s done in minutes.

I should add at this point that I also researched the Nest Cam, but decided that because the Arlo was wireless, weather-proof, cheaper (I wanted two cams), had free cloud storage and many positive press reviews, I made up my mind in favour of the Netgear system.

    Build and design:
These tiny cameras are amazing. When I first realised that they had seriously powerful magnets within them, I tried sticking them to everything, from the fridge to the studs in the stud wall (yes, they stuck). The cameras are weighty and solid, and that’s even before you put in the four batteries. They come with a metal dome bracket which fixes to the wall (haven’t done this yet). Once magnetically stuck to the dome the cameras can be adjusted to point in whichever angle you wish.

    Operation and app:
When I downloaded the app from the Apple App Store I read some of the recent reviews (as of Jan/Feb 2016) which were not very positive. It seemed that many people were annoyed that Netgear had removed the ability for the app to send native notifications when motion is detected. But when I downloaded the app and set up the cameras, I received iOS notifications that motion had been detected, so no problem there (perhaps the app has recently been updated). Currently, mine are setup to record 10 seconds of footage when motion is detected which is then shown within the app as a library of thumbnails. When tapped on, the footage is played back. I haven’t really explored my account or cloud storage yet. You can also access the cameras in live feed mode for short bursts (probably adjustable in length).

    Picture quality:
Footage is clear and sharp. There is a fair amount of fisheye which makes the image curved (something I was expecting based on previous reviews, and something which apparently the Nest suffers from less). I’m not after streaming or audio, and the fisheye is not a deal breaker for me. I wanted a security camera system that would monitor my house, front and back, and would alert me if motion is detected. The Arlo is perfect for me.

So, first impressions are that I am incredibly impressed with the Arlo — from the design and build, setup, picture, wirelessness and ability to place the cameras anywhere inside or out.

I’ll get to grips with scheduling, motion sensitivity, cloud storage, the app, and just generally living with the system and will update this review soon.

    ** Arlo update **

It’s been a month now so I thought I’d add a quick update to my review.

I mounted the cameras outside — one over the front door, and the other pointed at the back of the house. Picture quality is clear and bright, daytime and night, and I can see everything I need to see. The units are white so I bought the black silicone skin which makes them less conspicuous.

Sometimes the picture freezes, jumps, pixelates or gets a green, blocky distortion. Not often but maybe 5% of the time.

What’s more worrying is that sometimes it just misses activity. For example just now I had a notification of motion detected and can see that Tesco have arrived to deliver groceries. But five minutes later someone else arrived, parked their car in the drive and went in and Arlo completely missed it!? No notification or recording. This has happened once before, when I knew there was movement but it recorded nothing. I’ll keep an eye on it, but this is not ideal.

I use the Arlo mobile and web app daily and they both have the same layout, which makes it easy to navigate. Changing settings, arming and disarming the cameras and viewing live and recorded footage is quick and easy. The cameras have survived the recent freezing weather and rain (and snow). Batteries are still about three quarters full.

I’d still recommend this system but it’s not perfect. I’ll keep the rating at four stars but I’d give it three-and-a-half if I could.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersHighly Recommended system. From delivery to set up within 10 minutes!
I don’t normally write reviews but feel compelled to after purchasing this. Note – this review is largely on set up and testing recordings and not over a sustained period of time. I have a 3 camera set up – all within 10/15 metres of the hub, all wall mounted externally.
My reason for purchase is to deter/catch an ongoing state of vandalism to cars in our area.

    Pros.
    – The big win for this product is the fact that is totally wireless. I researched many CCTV systems and for the cost (c.360 for 3 camera set up), what you get is extremely good value. I am an experienced DIYer but not having to punch out holes all over the place for power/video cables is a big plus.
    – Set up – is a breeze. Plug in ‘hub’ into your internet router via. ethernet and sync cameras by pressing a button. From box to synced cameras took literally 5 minutes.
    – Video quality – in daylight is superb. Night video is very good too – I have yet to see the full capability at night (which I would imagine is where 95% of any key ‘detecting’ will take place!). Initial results are very good – I have a security light positioned about 8 feet below one camera and it seems to adjust to quick changes in light levels
    – Recording – people have commented already but this, by default, is NOT a continuously fed system. i.e. will only record on motion activation due to it being battery powered. You can however, via the app/website, login to your account to activate any camera ‘live feed’ and manually record both video and picture but this will add strain to the batteries.
    – Monitoring – I have used both app and Arlo website (you create an account to do this). Both are easy to use – its here that you can tailor when/how long/the brightness of each camera. For now I have set up all cameras to record for 30 seconds when motion is detected. Sensitivity is set to 90% – at 100% I found rain/lights opposite started to trigger recordings. Note you have 1GB/7 days worth of storage (or time to view/download wanted recordings).
    – Storage – all goes to the cloud in near real time so no worries about it not recording (or god forbid someone breaks in and therefore can steal the recording device!)

    Cons
    – Around 4 second lag in stream (this will vary dependant on internet speed – I average 20mps download). This is more useful to know if you have alerts set up – I have push notifications set up so when motion is detected I receive push to my iPhone – I have tested about a 20 second lag between event to notification on phone. This isnt that long at all but it helps set expectation. For my reason to purchase (i.e. car vandalism) this may prove too late for me to catch anyone doing it!
    – Brackets that come with it are magnetic – I used one of these for a centrally mounted camera at rear. For ones at front to get the right angle/add more security to the actual camera I purchased the adjustable mount which was 11 x2 extra. Note – as the ones supplied are magnetic it goes without saying you should position so people cant steal/knock them off!
    – Wifi only – this isnt a con with this particular system but of course if for whatever reason your wifi drops out (or your camera isnt within range) you will lose the cameras functionality

All in all I would highly recommend this solution to people who want to set up a quick, high quality system. I havent listed cost as a con – whilst it is alot of money, its still well priced vs. wired systems. That said, 110 for a standalone camera seems more on the high side, which is why I would further recommend purchasing the cameras in the initial bundle as it will save on further expense later on!

Golden Review Award: 250 From Our UsersPerfect easy to use home CCTV system
Having had a key safe installed at our house so that carers could let themselves in to tend to my elderly father in law, I decided it was a prudent idea to get some CCTV covering the area where the safe was installed, and the doors into the house. I specifically wanted outdoor cameras, wireless so that I didn’t have to run cables and HD so that I could capture good quality footage. Having done some googling, I discovered the Arlo system. Straight away it ticked all the boxes – and given the cameras are battery powered, it meant I didn’t have to plan for running power to them. Perfect. Though I did have some concerns about how long batteries would last.
Setup is easy – press one button on the camera and they paired to the base unit. Creating an Arlo account is easy – and you can sign in using the iPhone app. That’s it… You’re away. Range is excellent too – All 3 of my cameras are outside – one is mounted on the garage looking at the back of the house – and the walls in our house are thick. Mounting is easy using the magnet based mounts, though in theory anyone could just grab a camera and take it so caution should be given as to where they are placed. Once paired, operation is simple. These cameras are all about motion detection – if they were set to record permanently the batteries would drain quickly. Instead, they detect motion and then record for a user defined period of time and the footage gets uploaded to Netgear’s cloud and you receive notifications that motion has been detected. Nothing gets stored on the camera which is great. It does, however, mean that it requires a solid and reliable internet connection. These cameras do night vision very well with the built in infa-red LED’s even on the darkest of nights. Quality of the footage (720p) is excellent. 1 month + in, and many activations & the odd bit of live streaming on the iPhone and the batteries are still at two thirds on all cameras. Very impressed.
All in, i’m really impressed – and if you don’t want to run cables/power etc then this is the system for you.

    Pro’s
    + Battery Powered
    + Wireless
    + Reliable motion detection
    + Excellent Range
    + Free cloud storage
    + iPhone App
    + Email alerts
+ Good set of configuration options in the iPhone app
    + Excellent video quality

    Con’s
    + No Audio
+ Can’t secure cameras to the wall with included mounting brackets
+ Motion detection is more reliable at close range, it won’t always pick up movement in the distance
+ No IFTTT integration (If This Then That)
+ Large base station that requires wired connection to route

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBrillia
This is what I have always wanted in a home security cam system. No wires, easy to setup, clean easy to use app, scheduling, easy ‘all on’ and ‘all off’. Video loads up to the cloud super fast (so if a burglar takes out the cam at least the footage is already uploaded – I have mine high up so someone would have to jump or get a chair, but which time I have a nice face-shot video!). Good range throughout our three story Victorian terraced house, including a cam in the back garden.

The trade off of not having wires is using batteries. The batteries each cam came with have lasted for over four or so months so far. I don’t use it for viewing, purely for motion sensor. I have bought some rechargeable batteries but have yet to use.

Tiny amount of time lag before video starts and no sound recording, but hardly an issue when weighing up all the pros. No need for regular window, door and motion sensor alarms. UK Police will ignore that, and a neighbour is not exactly going to investigate. But can’t ignore video! Could not be happier. I have yet to find anything close to this. I have bought three so far and will add a few more. Addicted.
