Waited a little while before reviewing this as I wanted to make sure it was worth the very expensive price.

We have a large home consisting of 2 large living rooms/a very large kitchen and then 4 large bedrooms plus a usable loft space.
Our house is a smart home house using Alexa’s in every room/ring doorbell/lights/hive thermostat.
We also have numerous smart TV’s/firesticks & fire cubes. Plus 2 PlayStation 5s/pc/nintendo switch/10 various Sonos speakers and then finally everyone’s mobile phones and tablets.

So all in all roughly 40+ devices all fighting for internet bandwidth.
We currently run this with virgin media’s 1GB broadband.

First thing I will say is 2 nodes are completely overkill for most homes. As I mentions before our house is larger than most due to it being a nearly 150 year old farmhouse with solid brick walls externally and internally and the signal in EVERY room and even in our garden is superb.
Inside on my iPhone in any room I get speeds of 750mbps which is max for iPhones on 5G WiFi.

The system is very easy to set up and once it’s up and running thats it it just works and hasn’t failed me once so far.
I do have the WI-FI bands separated rather than as one because I like to keep all our smart devices on the 2GHz band and our leisure devices on a mixture OF 5 & 6GHz but that’s just my preference and when I originally set up before tweaking everything worked fine as a single mesh system.
Yes it’s a little expensive but worth every penny in my eyes as iv had cheaper routers from other brands in the past and have had numerous problems trying to get decent signal around our house.

So far one VERY happy custome

5.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for.

    2/ Installation :
L’installation fut trs facile via l’App iOS.

My use-case was a very specific one.
    – up to 1000mbps must be supported, when connected to LAN cable
    – need to penetrate a wall (where my office-room & cable-in room)

The two devices are setup to penetrate this single wall, and pass 1Gbps bandwidth without losing much. (930mbps constantly achieved).

So all in all, I am satisfied. (Yes, for my purpose, slightly cheaper device with 5G backhaul would have worked, but I wanted to use 6G bandwidth that noone is using around my house, while 5G channels are already filled by neighbors; in that sense, 6G channels are clearer / better)

Easy to configure, with plenty of options and excellent connectivity. It covers an area of 100m2 with no issues using 6E wifi backhaul. The devices themselves are slightly larger, but they look good so it’s not a big problem. Overall, I’m very satisfied after 2 weeks of use. P.S. Currently, 24 devices are connected, including IoT devices, mobile phones, and computers, and everything works without any problems.

As with all Asus routers this was a breeze to setup. I’m using a single unit at the moment until we move into our new build where I will setup both with dedicated wired backhaul. Even still I’m feeling like both units will be overkill however I wanted future proof myself with wifi 6e after my Ubiquity UDM bricked itself. If you are in Australia you will have to buy a 2 pin core figure 8 power cord for use with each power brick. The power cords supplied are UK and Asia.

First thing I noticed is that speeds are generally a lot faster than my old router, I did try the Eco mode however was noticing constant re-connecting and dropping out of endpoints. The throughput was also limited. I have since disabled Eco mode and lowered transmission power from performance to fair and connection and WiFi speed has been fantastic.

I have been using the 3 bands 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz and everything I have connects with no issues my Google Pixel 7 is the only devices that uses the 6e spectrum and it showed a connection speed of 1800mbps however my ISP speed is only 100Mbps. I do intend to get gigabit connection when we move to the new house.

Is this better than the Netgear Orbi’s? For value I would say yes, both are expensive with Asus being cheaper and their bundled security apps (Trend micro) & parental apps subscription free for life unlike Netgear (Bitdefender) and one of the main reasons I leaned towards Asus.

Performance wise it has been great, I have a Sonos Arc, sub and 2 ones which make up my surround setup for my TV and they connect without a problem and I was having constant issues with my old Ubiquity UDM and had to reset the system once every few weeks to ensure I had all speakers connected. Now when I think about it Asus is way better than ubiquiti cause things just work as they are meant to.

These units are not cheap and are definitely overkill for the average house. I think one unit is more than enough but at $700 each it’s quite a lot (damn almost the same price as a PS5). So seriously consider just getting the 1 pack unless you really need it. If you want absolute certainty in terms of Wifi speeds and tons of connections over large areas and don’t mind spending $ then you can’t beat these for performance and value. Highly recommended!

Great System maybe overkill for most!

The strength of the signal range has improved dramatically. I set one box up in my house and I now get full Wi-Fi coverage throughout the property as well as into the garden and about 30m outside the property too.

    Well worth the price tag.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI purchased the Asus ET12 to replace an ageing Netgear RBK50 system, and am very impressed so far with the performance.

The first thing to note is expense. This is an expensive product and may be overkill for many.

    Things I particularly liked were:

Powerful signal coverage offered – Suitable for large homes with many floors/rooms and/or large gardens. Since the two devices are routers in their own right I attain fast wifi over three floors as well as good speeds 80ft away at the end of the garden. Although wifi 6E is a dedicated wider bandwidth with faster possible speeds you should bear in mind that 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz signals will travel further.

Powerful feature set – Very configurable and unlike Netgear which charges for most options, Asus provides them for free(e.g. VPN, DDNS, content filtering etc). You can also use some other routers in their range if you have them to be part of the AImesh system.

Future proofing – Wifi 6E (Its enabled but not many device can take advantage of this yet. Wifi 7 is coming shortly too so if thats important to you, wait for a future version or perhaps use a cheaper router variant like the Asus ET8).

Premium products – These units are very well built and engineered, even the packaging is impressive and this feels like a premium product.

    Downsides

Initial Configuration – Before I could connect the routers together in what Asus call AiMesh (the manual instructs you to do this via a wifi backhaul connection first). I could not get this to work without firstly upgrading the Firmware on both Routers. This meant using each router in turn as a Master device connected to the Internet and then they synced up successfully. Once you have done so you should connect each router together via a hardwired Ethernet connection cable of suitable speed.

I also saw this issue with Asus XT12 units which I tried first but returned. Wifi backhaul (connecting the two routers together via wifi) was unreliable in my home due to distance/walls etc.

USB removal – Other Asus routers allow you to connect USB drives and use them as mini NAS drives. If this is important to you look at the older XT/ET8 routers.

Cost – They are expensive units although I saved some money during an Amazon sale – they are however much cheaper and more configurable than comparable Netgear products.

If you like gadgets these are great, but wifi is a necessity for most and it still pains me to pay so much for something that is pretty mundane. I guess you get what you pay for here and this will most likely appeal to Networking geeks more than others.

N.B. This system is intended to be wired together via Ethernet cable, freeing all bands up for Wifi usage. To one of the reviewers complaining about this but using a wifi 6 signal backhaul to link them, you would be best placed using the Asus XT12 which is faster in that scenario (wifi 6E is not offered by that system however).

For reference and a detailed writeup of capabilities I’d suggest using google to read reviews of these systems by Dong Knows Tech.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersThe first thing to get out of the way is the price – these are expensive. There are cheaper ASUS devices that give good WiFi and WiFi6 but are not as good as the ET12 Mesh. Also, for less money (and a fair bit of mess), you could probably flood wire your home yourself (DIY) and buy a 24 port switch! I needed a solution quickly and don’t regret purchasing this setup (it solved my issue with WiFi contention over 5G). I also have several devices (inc ASUS) that already have WiFi6 chips.

I tried WiFi6 (only 2.4G and 5Gx2 with the XT12) and found the ET12 to get higher B/W and consistent connection and throughput. 6G as a dedicated backhaul works well even in a two-storey house and sitting on the opposite side of a solid wall/extension. With the second mesh device (all WiFi) just outside my room on the landing and the master router downstairs opposite side of the house, I can hit 600Mbps+ on my WiFi6 enabled laptop (most devices will hit 300Mbps+)

My phone will hit 800Mbps+ 8 feet from the router! Possible output is identified as much higher, but these are the figures I see.

Setup was easy if you followed the instructions! )

As for size — these aren’t big and fit discretely on a unit and a shelf — no idea why some say they are ‘large’!
I do wish they had included the speedtest utility in the router build (is this a gaming router only feature?).

It’s debatable if you need to spend this much, and it will come down to your needs. The ASUS interface and no extra costs are a big plus for me. Make sure you have WiFi6 chips in your devices – if not, just swap them out (they aren’t expensive)

If you can justify the price I doubt you will be disappointed. Four stars just because the price is too dear for some (I’m trying to forget it).
