The razor is easy to use and makes a good job of removing my bed. However, I have noticed that as I have used it more and more the battery life seems to diminish.

This is my second Braun Series 3. My previous one is approximately 20 years old and still working, however the battery was no longer holding much charge.

I’ve been using the new one for a couple months now and compared to my old workhorse this new one seems to provide a closer smoother shave. I’ve not had any issues with irritation and I’ve had no snagging of the skin.

I do prefer the build quality of my old series 3 but this one does still feel good and like it will last a good amount of time.

Charging is still via a traditional charger, not sure why they don’t just make these USB C now. it does hold charge well and I don’t need to charge very frequently.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good all round shaver you can trust.

Well made and straightforward. Husband was using an ancient razor and wasn’t pleased when I gave him this to use. (80 years old)
He finds it a good shave and very straightforward. Recommend to all

I’ve always used three head rotary shavers, but this foil shaver is much better and gives a closer shave. A full charge gives me around a weeks worth of shaving. Good quality and very reasonable price

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI’ve been using this shaver for a week now and I’m very impressed. I was using a Remington twin foil mains shaver before it but the replacement foils and cutters are no longer available.
This Braun is so much better. It’s fairly quiet and nicer to use without a mains lead being attached. It is also much sharper and more gentle on my skin. I never have any redness or burning sensation and it shaves me very quickly. The slide up trimmer works well too which was something I’d worried about because the Remington trimmer was good but this one is just as good. I use it for dry shaving and it does give a very close and comfortable shave.
The only criticism I have is the pins on the mains charger are thinner than others and they wobble about slightly when I plug them into my UK shaver adaptor but they don’t fall out and the shaver charges without a problem.
I’d certainly recommend this shaver. I am very happy with it and am glad I bought it. I’ve been using electric shavers for over forty years and this one is the best yet.

I have been using Braun shavers for some years but needed to replace my last one as the batteries finally ceased to work. Not sure if Braun have updated the design, but the one I have just purchased is the best so far and delivers a very comfortable close shave. Very pleased.
Also, my experience over many years indicates the rechargeable batteries last a very long time, much longer than Braun indicate.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersI had not used an electric shaver for some time, but the need to shave regularly and sometimes on a busy schedule made one necessary for me when wet shaving feels like a luxury. The cost of decent wet shave blades these days is also monstrous.

I have found this Series 3 to be a really excellent performer that keeps my facial hair well at bay and fits well into a mixed shave routine.

Unlike older shavers, where the foil covered the blades that were attached to the shaver, the blades and the foil are all one unit and come off together. They are also replaceable – and may be cheaper (thank you Amazon) than buying a big pack of wet razor blades.

You can brush your bristles out our run the head under a tap (I tend to dry shave with the Braun).

Performance wise, the Braun deals excellently with my chin and lip hair; on the side of my face, I have to really slow down a bit to get a smoother shave on my back cheeks and around the neck. One thing to say is that I get no razor burn at all as I do have sensitive skin.

If you facial hair is a bit longer, just go more slowly. The S3 has not hurt me at all yet and its head is good for 18 months (and that I imagine is if you use it more than I do as like I said, I mix shave).

Ergonomically it is hard to drop – fits like a glove in my hand. The only downside is that sometimes when I take the clear plastic foil protector off, the foil/blade head comes off with it and if you have not cleaned it previously, your bristles and dead skin goes all over the place so don’t grab the foil protector too hard!

Battery life is very good indeed and the pull out side burn blade is also very useful too.

All in all a very satisfying piece of kit that just does what it is supposed to do.

    And isn’t that good news!!

    Highly recommended.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThe Braun series 3 has exceeded my expectations. Had ordered a Remington F6 which after 2 months of average shaving would not switch off and was returned to Remington. The replacement lasted 8 months and then failed. Remington refused to offer a refund despite quoting consumer right to a full refund if a product is faulty. They would have eventually sent me another F6 razor backdating the warrantee to my original purchase so in effect a 2month guarantee. Amazon stepped in and refunded my purchase price and I ordered a Braun Series 3 . Its a fabulous shave and a brilliant razor. Do not buy a RemingtonF6 , compared to the Braun its like chalk and cheese. Thank you Amazon for your support in dealing with this issue it was much appreciated. Dealing with Remington’s various e mails and them wanting videos and documentation became a waste of my time as no conclusion was given. Amazon resolved with one phone call.

…did I leave it so long before I bought one of these…?
My hopes weren’t high, but this electric shaver is the best thing I’ve bought in I don’t know how long. It shaves more or less as close as a razor, and is SO MUCH easier to use.
I can shave while reading emails / waiting for something in the microwave, it’s so convenient it’s not true…
I don’t know how long it will perform like this, but if I have to replace the blades in a year then that’s fine with me.
Now the mini trauma of ‘having a shave’ isn’t a big production, with running cold water off for ages, not being able to see in the foggy mirror, dripping water on the floor, making a mess in the sink, cutting myself… it’s all gone… 🙂
I can now keep on top of being clean shaven, and this is apparently how the foil shavers have been designed to operate… little and often…
Totally converted to electric dry shaving…

It’s not perfect but after having it for a few weeks I’m getting used to it. I initially tried a wet shave with it but it took ages. I’ve since been dry shaving with it and have got used to shaving up and down against the growth direction. The “hit rate” seems to be about 90% with ease and then that last 10% can be a struggle but the more you do it the quicker you get at doing your normal routine. I bought this because I was sick of using disposable razors on my moustache as I find the sides quite painful whereas this is a welcome change. My skin is sensitive and this seems to agree with it so the extra time it takes compared to normal razors is worth it to be pain free! The battery life isn’t great though so be prepared to keep it charged.

I have used Braun S3 shavers for years. When the shaver I had been using for 4 years stopped charging, I thought it was a battery problem and ordered a new one. By chance, I tried the old shaver with the new charging cable and it charged. My two previous S3 shavers – which I had discarded when they stopped charging – were in the garage, and I found that I could charge them both using the new cable. So, now I have 4 working shavers with one functioning charging cable, and three non-functioning charging cables. The charging cables obviously have a much more limited life than the shaver batteries so, if your shaver stops charging, try a different cable before the expense of buying a new shaver.

  12. Charles Durham says:

I bought this shaver as a replacement for an old rotary shaver that although still going strong and battery life good, I could no longer buy OEM replacement cutters. The third party cutters that I bought proved useless and it took an awful long time to get a reasonable shave. The experience with replacement cutters put me off just replacing the shaver I had with a more modern one and also persuaded me not to buy a cheap copy of the original razor, as this would probably be equipped with the sort of cutters that I had already used.

I therefore chose the Braun 3040s which was available at a very good price and I must say I have been impressed. Shaving is so much quicker and closer than with my old shaver. No problems with any skin irritation. Not sure about battery life as yet but it seems to be reasonable.

I was disappointed that there was no case or travel bag supplied but I bought a YINKE one that is ideal.

I wish I had bought the Braun, sooner rather than wasting money on poor quality replacement cutters.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersMy son has been using another well know brand shaver for sometime and it finally gave up. I thought an ‘upgrade’ would be good, and thought a different brand might be a good try. On the previous one, the whole head moved, on this just the foils do. It’s not too good at chowing straight into week long stubble as a previous brand we used. In fact, the results were pretty rough doing that, much longer time to shave and didn’t do such a clean job. To combat this, I coax my son to try a different approach (he has autism, change isn’t easy) – the compromise is to shave twice a week, just using the foils, but also using the trimmer (quite basic but functional) to help him take some of the thickness out (his beard grows very quickly). This is working well, despite the protests (did I say he doesn’t like shaving?!). It is actually quite a nice and robust shaver, light weight and with decent foils and easy to clean. It’s giving a better shave over all I think and great on his skin (not necessarily sensitive but prone to spots). If you’re also a reluctant shaver and like to just do so once a week, you may wish to invest a bit more for something that will tackle that. If you like a beard there’s a beard trimmer. No carry bag which is a shame. And you’ll need a shaver adapter plug. The charge lasts well, and the charge level indicator means you’re not half way through a shave when it stops!

Good value if you dislike wet shaving. Less money over time too!

Speaking for myself and people who I’ve chatted with about the exciting topic of shaving, we don’t stave off facial hair as well with electric shavers as with wet razors, but I’ve spent less money on electricity to charge up a Braun, and buy one new foil in the course of a couple of years than on new blades for a Gillette, shaving cream and aftershave!

I really dislike having to splash around with lathered taps, hot sink puddles with flotsams of my fizzog and shaving cream. This electric razor is less of a bore.

I also admit that my skin doesn’t feel sore with this 21st C electric razor, in contrast to one I had 30 years ago! This so called Series 3 ProSkin 3040s really does do a good enough job not to leave an itchy scratchy stubble.

I get about 10 Times a Few minutes worth of shave off a single charge. About a fortnight. I guess it about meet’s Braun’s claim 40 something minute running time from each charge.

Takes about 90 minutes to charge fully.

You can also use a USB charger for recharging if you don’t have a Shavers socket in the bathroom.

That said it’s only worth buying if you find wet shaving a bit depressing and irritating.

I lost the original Charger but bought a replacement USB Charger for several pounds, it’s called AIEVE Charger Cord compatible with Braun Series 5,3,9, 7 etc.

This final remark is not meant derogatorily: An electric shaver made by a long established company that offers some lasting quality is maybe a good gift for a “Special Needs” friend, or family member who struggles with chores.

Bought this to replace my old Braun that must be 20 years old. It works well and is very smooth and quiet compared to my old one. The charging cable is however a disaster as it doesn’t coil up neatly like my old one. However I noticed the three pin electrical connection on the shaver was the same as my old one so problem solved!

Bought for a penny under 50 and 50% off the official RRP, a well made and reliable shaver.

Does the job very well providing me with a clean shave daily. Battery life is good- need to recharge every 2 weeks with daily 5 minutes use approximately.

Overall feel and build quality is good both light and quite well made. Again not as sturdy as older Brauns that I have purchased in the last 30 years but that is how things are these days – cheaply made even for high end quality stuff.

A steal for 50.00- not sure I would pay over 100 for it though.

I was very pleased with the result of shaving with this particular Braun shaver. It replaced one lost that I had used for years. The difference between the older cutting technology was amazing and so comfortable to use. It’s an economically priced shaver and has no storage case but it has a useful guard ‘cover’.

  18. PaulaPullen says:

The ability to flip from a shaver to a foil is very useful. Handy to have it all in one. However, the guard sizing increments I found to be a bit annoying. Thinking of upgrading to one with more choice in guard size. Can’t complain though for the price, it’s very good. Keeps battery life well and shaves efficiently.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve just had my first shave using the Series 3 and I can honestly say it was better than expected.
Compared to the Philips Oneblade razor which I have used for years this gives a closer shave and my skin feels much smoother. It shaves in half the time and it’s not as messy.
The replacement heads work out cheaper than the Oneblade as they last longer.
I find it easier to use and cleaning is simple.
Highly recommend if you’re looking for your first shaver.

I can’t guarantee it is not my technique, but the few times I used the machine it never gave me (the expected) clean-shaven shave. I quite like the trim to cut the (couple of weeks) stubble, but I have always found that I still need a razor to get that perfect shave.

I love this shaver. It helps me get a really close shave without getting razor burns/irritation that i would normally get with a razor. I find that i can use it every other day and my skin feels ok every time. The charge is also great and lasts me at least 5-6 full shaves. The grip is also great and feels easy to hold. The only thing i will say is sometimes i struggle to shave around my neck area, but i think that’s more due to the way my hair grows there. Great product !

My old electric razer gave me very bad razor burn so I bought this as it is advertised as good for sensitive skin. So far I am very impressed as I get no razor burn and a much better and closer shave. The only negative is the battery as you only get 45 minutes run time on a full charge

I bought this as a present for my husband but I was very disappointed that the box was such a mess because it seriously detracted from the pleasure he should have had in receiving it. I’m not sure where it came from but there was some horrid waxy substance around the top of the box which I had to scrape off. Luckily the contents of the box appeared to be unharmed but when receiving a gift the presentation is important. Now, as far as the razor goes, he is really pleased as it moves over his very sensitive skin effortlessly giving a very close shave without any damage. He likes the feel and substance of the shaver and over all is very pleased with it.

Im not sure if its just me but when it comes to an electric shaver this is usually what comes to mind – my dad’s ran this all his life, I’ve ran them all my life, and my nephew has the same – we all tend to get a good few years out of them trouble free, a couple of replacement foils over time then replace the whole unit.

All in all, perfectly good electric shaver that won’t break the bank as its simply always reduced, but isn’t cheap/weak either.

Works pretty well and gives quite a close shave. It sometimes irritates my skin however but is easier than shaving with a razor. I had hoped it would come with oil like most eletric shavers do but it only comes with a small brush.
I’d definately recommend wet shaving over dry, theres a lot of friction when using it dry

I had been shaving with blades all my life, but they have now become too expensive. So I decided to get an electric razor. With 100’s to choose from I asked my son which one should I get, he choose this Braun Series 3 ProSkin 3040s. My first and last experience with electric razors was forty years ago, and it left me with a very sore face and unshaven, so I never tried them again. But this Braun is a dream, it gets as close as the blade does, and no sore face. I wish I had taken the plunge a long time ago. I would definitely recommend this Braun.

Unfortunately the charger plug does not fit in to a standard UK shaver plug socket. Luckily I still had my old one which fits both the plug socket and the shaver. However the new razor does not work with the charger / mains lead plugged in, so have to ensure it is always charged. This lasts about 7 shaves, so only once a week to charge! but a good razor over all!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAs a woman I was looking for a shaver that actually works, because women’s shavers are crap, cheapy things that fall apart within months (it’s taken me 4 of them to learn…) THIS however works wonders, shaves my fanny bald, my legs smooth, and you’d never believe I grew hair on my top lip with this thing. There’s no irritation. The way the foil strips are individually on springs is genius, great for all those awkward angles. If anyone is considering this, go for it.

Thankfully, this shaver was a replacement for a series 3 I have had for a long time and was pleased with. The new one has no stand, but it fitted the old one. The recharge lead plug’s pins are too narrow and falls out of the shaving socket. Again, the old one fitted. It is a very good shaver and I am happy with it, but suggest it is only good as a replacement for an older Braun series 3 for the reasons already given.

Bought this for the old man for Christmas. He loves it. He struggled to believe it’s waterproof and was very protective over it when I showed him how to clean it by running it under the tap. He still doesn’t believe it’s waterproof but hopefully he’d get the jist.

I got the series 7 a month early which I can’t complain love that too but the price difference is huge and they both cut the same. Yes the 7 looks better and battery life is 5 mins longer but that’s it. The old man very happy and must say the 3 feels more rugged than the 7.
The 7 feels if u drop it that’s game over but with the 3 though it’s looks aren’t appealing it feels rough and ready.

The shave quality depending on ur skin but as a daily or on the 3rd day shaving it’s neat and tidy. Any longer than 3 days it’s gonna struggle with the hair growth.
Give it time few shaves by week 2 your skin will adapt and will feel just as close as a basic to medium razor.
All in all great Value great for a daily shave never going back to razors again.

Golden Review Award: 52 From Our UsersI took some time to research the best value-for-money rechargeable wet electric shaver, and I think the Braun 3040 might be the one.

In term of shaving performance, this is very good, even on dry shaving.
I think people not shaving frequently may be disappointed, as this is not designed for cutting long hairs/beards. However, a precision trimmer is built-in for sideburns etc, and people shaving every day or every few days should be happy.

Compared to the Philips shavers I had in the past, with rounded heads, this seems to perform better, and it’s shaving a much wider area in one go.

Other Philips models currently sold on Amazon for a similar price as the Braun 3040 don’t include precision trimmers, and take much longer to fully charge, or are just dry models (much harder to keep clean). The replacement blades are also likely to be more costly.

Build quality is very good, and the device feels robust. It’s the first time I have a waterproof shaver, and it’s going to make proper cleaning some much easier.

If using for wet shaves, or cleaning the head under running water frequently (as opposed to using the provided brush for “dry” cleaning), Braun recommends to put some oil on the foils once a week (oil not provided), else water will make the mechanism too dry. I believe this is good advice as I had the same experience with clippers, but would have been nice to have some oil provided.

Blades/foil should last for about 18-months, according to Braun, and cost about 20 to replace. Item is losing one star because of this, as spare blades shouldn’t cost 60% of a new shaver price. Lots of people will buy a new shaver, which is not very green.

Some people are reporting that the precision trimmer does not work, but it’s moving so quickly that it may not appear to be working (when just looking at it).

Some people are reporting that their shaver is not charging fully: the lights are indeed confusing. There are three charging lights, but only the top two light up when fully charged. The third light (red) is just to indicate low battery. It would have been better for Braun to just use the three lights as charge normal charge indicators.

There is also an indicator at the bottom that is supposed to remind users when the blades have to be replaced. I guess it may just be based on duration, as opposed to actually usage/count.

Differences with the next model up (Braun Series 3 3080), currently sold on Amazon for 30 more:

    * The cutting mechanism/blades/foil are exactly the same (so shaving performance will be basically the same)
    * The battery life is the same. Charging time is the same
    * Motor is the same, and body is broadly the same (apart from colours, and one more switch)
    * The 3080 comes with a charging station. 3040 with just a charging cable. As it’s recommended to fully discharge before recharging (to preserve the battery), and charging should only have to be done about once a week (for 1 hour), I am not sure a charging cradle is that necessary
    * The 3080 comes with a traveling pouch. 3040 just has a protective plastic cap. However, third party travel pouches can be bought for 10
    * The 3080 has an additional switch to lock the blades lower for sensitive areas

None of this is worth an extra 30 to me, and it’s interesting to see that the 3080 model is rated much higher on Amazon by customers, while the shaving performance should be basically the same as the much cheaper 3040…

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI really do not understand the people who knock this product. for me at least this is simple the best electric shaver (not the most expensive ) that I have owned.
Used dry it does not beat, but certainly rivals, a wet shave to which I have always returned in the past. I have a feeling that this time I might stick with the Braun especially if wet use improves the experience even further.
I do not understand the people who complain about cutting – unless they are teenagers chopping the tops off acne.
A light pressure is all that is needed and apart from not helping, excessive pressure makes it less efficient (and uncomfortable) as the floating heads are fully compressed and cannot “float”

The complaints about the loose fit of the charging cable was the first thing I checked and I thought at first I was going to join the chorus of complaints however ….. push it in VERY firmly and it will click into place – you will then think it is stuck! There is however no trick needed, just a firm grip on the plug and PULL!!

My advice is to ignore all the doubters and shell out a modest sum for a great shave.
