The razor is easy to use and makes a good job of removing my bed. However, I have noticed that as I have used it more and more the battery life seems to diminish.

    Easy to use.
Well made and straightforward. Husband was using an ancient razor and wasn’t pleased when I gave him this to use. (80 years old)
He finds it a good shave and very straightforward. Recommend to all

Good all round shaver you can trust.
This is my second Braun Series 3. My previous one is approximately 20 years old and still working, however the battery was no longer holding much charge.

I’ve been using the new one for a couple months now and compared to my old workhorse this new one seems to provide a closer smoother shave. I’ve not had any issues with irritation and I’ve had no snagging of the skin.

I do prefer the build quality of my old series 3 but this one does still feel good and like it will last a good amount of time.

Charging is still via a traditional charger, not sure why they don’t just make these USB C now. it does hold charge well and I don’t need to charge very frequently.

I’ve always used three head rotary shavers, but this foil shaver is much better and gives a closer shave. A full charge gives me around a weeks worth of shaving. Good quality and very reasonable price

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersGreat shaver.
I’ve been using this shaver for a week now and I’m very impressed. I was using a Remington twin foil mains shaver before it but the replacement foils and cutters are no longer available.
This Braun is so much better. It’s fairly quiet and nicer to use without a mains lead being attached. It is also much sharper and more gentle on my skin. I never have any redness or burning sensation and it shaves me very quickly. The slide up trimmer works well too which was something I’d worried about because the Remington trimmer was good but this one is just as good. I use it for dry shaving and it does give a very close and comfortable shave.
The only criticism I have is the pins on the mains charger are thinner than others and they wobble about slightly when I plug them into my UK shaver adaptor but they don’t fall out and the shaver charges without a problem.
I’d certainly recommend this shaver. I am very happy with it and am glad I bought it. I’ve been using electric shavers for over forty years and this one is the best yet.

Braun make excellent electric razors for me
I have been using Braun shavers for some years but needed to replace my last one as the batteries finally ceased to work. Not sure if Braun have updated the design, but the one I have just purchased is the best so far and delivers a very comfortable close shave. Very pleased.
Also, my experience over many years indicates the rechargeable batteries last a very long time, much longer than Braun indicate.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersAn Extremely Effective Shave
I had not used an electric shaver for some time, but the need to shave regularly and sometimes on a busy schedule made one necessary for me when wet shaving feels like a luxury. The cost of decent wet shave blades these days is also monstrous.

I have found this Series 3 to be a really excellent performer that keeps my facial hair well at bay and fits well into a mixed shave routine.

Unlike older shavers, where the foil covered the blades that were attached to the shaver, the blades and the foil are all one unit and come off together. They are also replaceable – and may be cheaper (thank you Amazon) than buying a big pack of wet razor blades.

You can brush your bristles out our run the head under a tap (I tend to dry shave with the Braun).

Performance wise, the Braun deals excellently with my chin and lip hair; on the side of my face, I have to really slow down a bit to get a smoother shave on my back cheeks and around the neck. One thing to say is that I get no razor burn at all as I do have sensitive skin.

If you facial hair is a bit longer, just go more slowly. The S3 has not hurt me at all yet and its head is good for 18 months (and that I imagine is if you use it more than I do as like I said, I mix shave).

Ergonomically it is hard to drop – fits like a glove in my hand. The only downside is that sometimes when I take the clear plastic foil protector off, the foil/blade head comes off with it and if you have not cleaned it previously, your bristles and dead skin goes all over the place so don’t grab the foil protector too hard!

Battery life is very good indeed and the pull out side burn blade is also very useful too.

All in all a very satisfying piece of kit that just does what it is supposed to do.

    And isn’t that good news!!

    Highly recommended.

The Braun series 3 has exceeded my expectations. Had ordered a Remington F6 which after 2 months of average shaving would not switch off and was returned to Remington. The replacement lasted 8 months and then failed. Remington refused to offer a refund despite quoting consumer right to a full refund if a product is faulty. They would have eventually sent me another F6 razor backdating the warrantee to my original purchase so in effect a 2month guarantee. Amazon stepped in and refunded my purchase price and I ordered a Braun Series 3 . Its a fabulous shave and a brilliant razor. Do not buy a RemingtonF6 , compared to the Braun its like chalk and cheese. Thank you Amazon for your support in dealing with this issue it was much appreciated. Dealing with Remington’s various e mails and them wanting videos and documentation became a waste of my time as no conclusion was given. Amazon resolved with one phone call.

    Why why why...
…did I leave it so long before I bought one of these…?
My hopes weren’t high, but this electric shaver is the best thing I’ve bought in I don’t know how long. It shaves more or less as close as a razor, and is SO MUCH easier to use.
I can shave while reading emails / waiting for something in the microwave, it’s so convenient it’s not true…
I don’t know how long it will perform like this, but if I have to replace the blades in a year then that’s fine with me.
Now the mini trauma of ‘having a shave’ isn’t a big production, with running cold water off for ages, not being able to see in the foggy mirror, dripping water on the floor, making a mess in the sink, cutting myself… it’s all gone… 🙂
I can now keep on top of being clean shaven, and this is apparently how the foil shavers have been designed to operate… little and often…
Totally converted to electric dry shaving…

Good shave once you get used to i
It’s not perfect but after having it for a few weeks I’m getting used to it. I initially tried a wet shave with it but it took ages. I’ve since been dry shaving with it and have got used to shaving up and down against the growth direction. The “hit rate” seems to be about 90% with ease and then that last 10% can be a struggle but the more you do it the quicker you get at doing your normal routine. I bought this because I was sick of using disposable razors on my moustache as I find the sides quite painful whereas this is a welcome change. My skin is sensitive and this seems to agree with it so the extra time it takes compared to normal razors is worth it to be pain free! The battery life isn’t great though so be prepared to keep it charged.

A good shaver but, if you have one that no longer charges, check the cable before buying a new one!
I have used Braun S3 shavers for years. When the shaver I had been using for 4 years stopped charging, I thought it was a battery problem and ordered a new one. By chance, I tried the old shaver with the new charging cable and it charged. My two previous S3 shavers – which I had discarded when they stopped charging – were in the garage, and I found that I could charge them both using the new cable. So, now I have 4 working shavers with one functioning charging cable, and three non-functioning charging cables. The charging cables obviously have a much more limited life than the shaver batteries so, if your shaver stops charging, try a different cable before the expense of buying a new shaver.

    Impressed by Braun 3040s shave
I bought this shaver as a replacement for an old rotary shaver that although still going strong and battery life good, I could no longer buy OEM replacement cutters. The third party cutters that I bought proved useless and it took an awful long time to get a reasonable shave. The experience with replacement cutters put me off just replacing the shaver I had with a more modern one and also persuaded me not to buy a cheap copy of the original razor, as this would probably be equipped with the sort of cutters that I had already used.

I therefore chose the Braun 3040s which was available at a very good price and I must say I have been impressed. Shaving is so much quicker and closer than with my old shaver. No problems with any skin irritation. Not sure about battery life as yet but it seems to be reasonable.

I was disappointed that there was no case or travel bag supplied but I bought a YINKE one that is ideal.

I wish I had bought the Braun, sooner rather than wasting money on poor quality replacement cutters.

This item arrived a little early & in good condition. The price was very competitive.
I was delighted with it’s performance giving me (strong beard) the closest thing to a wet shave that I have experienced, Being retired, I used to wet shave at the weekend (social outings) but barely adequate electric shave during the week. This razor is so good, I use it all the time.
It is easy to handle & the battery seems very strong.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersWorks well.
My son has been using another well know brand shaver for sometime and it finally gave up. I thought an ‘upgrade’ would be good, and thought a different brand might be a good try. On the previous one, the whole head moved, on this just the foils do. It’s not too good at chowing straight into week long stubble as a previous brand we used. In fact, the results were pretty rough doing that, much longer time to shave and didn’t do such a clean job. To combat this, I coax my son to try a different approach (he has autism, change isn’t easy) – the compromise is to shave twice a week, just using the foils, but also using the trimmer (quite basic but functional) to help him take some of the thickness out (his beard grows very quickly). This is working well, despite the protests (did I say he doesn’t like shaving?!). It is actually quite a nice and robust shaver, light weight and with decent foils and easy to clean. It’s giving a better shave over all I think and great on his skin (not necessarily sensitive but prone to spots). If you’re also a reluctant shaver and like to just do so once a week, you may wish to invest a bit more for something that will tackle that. If you like a beard there’s a beard trimmer. No carry bag which is a shame. And you’ll need a shaver adapter plug. The charge lasts well, and the charge level indicator means you’re not half way through a shave when it stops!

Sill Works after a Year and half!
Good value if you dislike wet shaving. Less money over time too!

Speaking for myself and people who I’ve chatted with about the exciting topic of shaving, we don’t stave off facial hair as well with electric shavers as with wet razors, but I’ve spent less money on electricity to charge up a Braun, and buy one new foil in the course of a couple of years than on new blades for a Gillette, shaving cream and aftershave!

I really dislike having to splash around with lathered taps, hot sink puddles with flotsams of my fizzog and shaving cream. This electric razor is less of a bore.

I also admit that my skin doesn’t feel sore with this 21st C electric razor, in contrast to one I had 30 years ago! This so called Series 3 ProSkin 3040s really does do a good enough job not to leave an itchy scratchy stubble.

I get about 10 Times a Few minutes worth of shave off a single charge. About a fortnight. I guess it about meet’s Braun’s claim 40 something minute running time from each charge.

Takes about 90 minutes to charge fully.

You can also use a USB charger for recharging if you don’t have a Shavers socket in the bathroom.

That said it’s only worth buying if you find wet shaving a bit depressing and irritating.

I lost the original Charger but bought a replacement USB Charger for several pounds, it’s called AIEVE Charger Cord compatible with Braun Series 5,3,9, 7 etc.

This final remark is not meant derogatorily: An electric shaver made by a long established company that offers some lasting quality is maybe a good gift for a “Special Needs” friend, or family member who struggles with chores.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersIs it as good as my last Braun?
My previous Braun, a 390cc, has just about expired after around 18 years service. As it had been so outstanding, my next shaver had to be a Braun and, after considering several higher-end models in the range, I chose this 3040s. I didn’t see the need to spend any more. However, as far as I’m concerned, 99 percent of today’s shavers, including this one, have a major flaw- see below.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with it. The bottom line is- it gives me a nice smooth, quick and clean shave and it didn’t cost a fortune. Obviously, brand new blades help, but it’s quite ergonomic and the (new for me) tilting heads do seem helpful. It doesn’t feel quite as well made as my last one and some of the plastics feel a bit low-rent.

As it’s so new, I can’t comment on battery life, but I may well update this review when I’ve owned it a bit longer. I don’t intend to use it with shaving foam or in the shower etc. as I just need it as a dry shaver. I don’t plan on running it under the tap unless I’ve removed the blades first- and in this respect this model is inferior because the top cover is more fiddly to release compared to my last Braun, the compartment for shavings is much larger now though.

The start button is now on the front, which is not quite so ergonomic as before when it was next to your thumb while you were shaving.

I’ve not used the sideburn trimmer yet, but it can’t be any worse than on my last 2 Brauns, both of which surrendered after 2 or 3 years use. Another thing that surely must have improved is the battery technology. My previous 2 Brauns’ batteries both lost their ability to hold a charge after only around 3 or 4 years, so after then I used them both as mains-only shavers. This brings me to my main gripe with this and virtually all new shavers- you cannot shave with it when it’s plugged-in. So, if the battery on this model is no better than on my previous Brauns, I’ll be forced to buy another shaver when it eventually fails to hold sufficient charge.

A couple of other niggles- the charging cable isn’t coiled, which I prefer, but the old cable fits the new shaver, so I’ll use that. There is no case included and, as this model’s a bit longer, it doesn’t fit the old case. The cleaning brush is a pathetic tiny thing, less than half the size of my old one.

Bottom line- Recommended (but I bet I don’t get 18 years out of it).

Bought this to replace my old Braun that must be 20 years old. It works well and is very smooth and quiet compared to my old one. The charging cable is however a disaster as it doesn’t coil up neatly like my old one. However I noticed the three pin electrical connection on the shaver was the same as my old one so problem solved!

Bought for a penny under 50 and 50% off the official RRP, a well made and reliable shaver.

Does the job very well providing me with a clean shave daily. Battery life is good- need to recharge every 2 weeks with daily 5 minutes use approximately.

Overall feel and build quality is good both light and quite well made. Again not as sturdy as older Brauns that I have purchased in the last 30 years but that is how things are these days – cheaply made even for high end quality stuff.

A steal for 50.00- not sure I would pay over 100 for it though.

I was very pleased with the result of shaving with this particular Braun shaver. It replaced one lost that I had used for years. The difference between the older cutting technology was amazing and so comfortable to use. It’s an economically priced shaver and has no storage case but it has a useful guard ‘cover’.

The ability to flip from a shaver to a foil is very useful. Handy to have it all in one. However, the guard sizing increments I found to be a bit annoying. Thinking of upgrading to one with more choice in guard size. Can’t complain though for the price, it’s very good. Keeps battery life well and shaves efficiently.

I’ve just had my first shave using the Series 3 and I can honestly say it was better than expected.
Compared to the Philips Oneblade razor which I have used for years this gives a closer shave and my skin feels much smoother. It shaves in half the time and it’s not as messy.
The replacement heads work out cheaper than the Oneblade as they last longer.

I can’t guarantee it is not my technique, but the few times I used the machine it never gave me (the expected) clean-shaven shave. I quite like the trim to cut the (couple of weeks) stubble, but I have always found that I still need a razor to get that perfect shave.

I find that i can use it every other day and my skin feels ok every time. The charge is also great and lasts me at least 5-6 full shaves. The grip is also great and feels easy to hold. The only thing i will say is sometimes i struggle to shave around my neck area, but i think that’s more due to the way my hair grows there. Great product !

I bought this as a present for my husband but I was very disappointed that the box was such a mess because it seriously detracted from the pleasure he should have had in receiving it. I’m not sure where it came from but there was some horrid waxy substance around the top of the box which I had to scrape off. Luckily the contents of the box appeared to be unharmed but when receiving a gift the presentation is important. Now, as far as the razor goes, he is really pleased as it moves over his very sensitive skin effortlessly giving a very close shave without any damage. He likes the feel and substance of the shaver and over all is very pleased with it.

Im not sure if its just me but when it comes to an electric shaver this is usually what comes to mind – my dad’s ran this all his life, I’ve ran them all my life, and my nephew has the same – we all tend to get a good few years out of them trouble free, a couple of replacement foils over time then replace the whole unit.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersGreat shaver, you won't regret buying it!
Great shaver. Not much else I can say about it.

I had to get an electric shaver and get rid of my razor as I have a super, super sensitive skin. Razor irritated my skin like crazy, I tried using warm water, I tried to use moisturizer before and after shaving, tried a whole bunch of different razors but nothing. Shaving with razors irritated my skin and often gave me pimples..

however, since switching to this shaver I NEVER had such issues related to skin irritations/swell. My skin comes super smooth just like after having shaved with a regular razor…and my girlfriend loves it!

little downside, it can be hard sometimes to get the job done in hard spots like around the jaw, and you might need to cover the area a few times before getting it done. Really this is the only thing i can complain about.

This is a good deal, it’s a great product that does what’s supposed to do and does it well, and it’s great value for money. You can’t go wrong with Braun!

In the past I have not had much success with electric razors, the shave has always been dissapointing in comparison with a normal wet shave.Recently I had the need of an electric razor so decided to try again. In view of my past experiance I did not want to spend a lot on one. Braun have a reputation for quality, so I opted for this one which was on offer. Whilst very basic it filled my need. Initially the shave was dissapointing and much to my expectations, but with use and adapting my technique, it now provides a satisfactory shave. The battery life seems to be good. I think I’m in love….
You can’t beat a hot wet shave with a good razor but this comes close. I’ve tried a Philisahve which was given to me and though it did a job, I found that having sensitive skin and irregular, light growth I couldn’t shave in a straight line as I do with a wet razor. Also, I always got burns at the base of my neck and a feeling of soreness.

The 3040s is much lighter, feels good in my hand and cuts very close, lets me shave in straight lines, and with the sensitive foil, I don’t have any soreness as before. I also tried shaving in wet mode which works very nicely. It seems to shave better if I use it upside down but that’s maybe just due to my face contours.
The only issue is that the plug slips out of the socket in the bathroom but fits OK into an adapter. Not sure about the battery life yet.

Just used my new Braun 3040s for 4 days and so far I’m very happy with it.
I had a Phillips shaver years ago, but when the blades lost sharpness, I found replacement heads cost nearly as much as the whole shaver, so decided to go to wet shave and disposable razors. Now I find disposables are not lasting very long, so I’m trying the Braun.
So far, it gives me a good close shave. I’m in my 70s, and wrinkly, so I need to stretch my skin. It takes about the same time as a wet shave, but it’s easier to get a good finish. No sign of needing recharging yet.
I see shavers advertised for over 200 and wonder how they can be that much better than this Braun for 50. So it seems good value for money.

After using my previous Braun electric razor for 10 years (and replaced the foils now and again) I’m amazed at how much quicker this new version shaves (about a quarter of the time my old shaver took) and shaves comfortably close without razor burn. You can wet shave with this razor going by the blurb but I don’t see the point of this so I just dry shave with it. This was a third of the price of other shavers I looked at but I’m glad I chose this one for a no nonsense decent shave.

    GOOD SHAVER
This is a good shaver I bought it to replace my Braun 3 – series 380S. There are a few minuses compared to my previous shaver . First it does not come with a individual case and it does not have the sliding switch to lower the front head as my previous shaver. I bought it in the sale for 49.99. I have to say I would have not have paid full price. I only use the shaver as a tidy up. I wet shave every day and would not use it for a complete daily shave. Wet shave is always the best way to shave. I have never used the Braun shaver as a wet shave ,do not see the point of this. But saying all that the Braun shaver is a great tidy up shaver and with the pop up sliding trimmer it is a very handy shaver. The trimmer is good to use on sideboards , ear and nose trimming. I would not be without the Braun Shaver.

    Game changer bye bye Razors
At the age of 49 I was really getting fed up with wet shaving. Unfortunately I’d tried various electric Rotary shavers over the years but just found they barely did anything for me. I decided to have a look at what the latest shavers were all about and discovered that rotary ones are more for today lying hair and foil ones are better for stand up hair. That was a lightbulb moment and I decided to give electric shaving one last try and buy one of these.

All I can say is for me wow!!! I knew instantly this was a game changer and in about 2 mins I had a great close shave with amazingly little to no irritation. Is it as close as a top of the range Gillette or Wilkinson Sword razor? No of course not but believe me it’s not far off!!! If you like me have only ever had a rotary and been disappointed try one of these you’ll be seriously impressed!!!

    Great shaver, meh trimme
Okay. I only got this today. What a difference! I hadn’t quite realised just how blunt my Phillips 5000 had got (basically I could no longer shave) – not their fault – the cutters were many years old! This is a great little shaver if you shave every day. I dry shave. The first pass got almost everything, but it missed the occasional flat longer hair. That shouldn’t be a problem from now on as I’ll be shaving every day. Just a shame they have scrimped on the trimmer which is a bit flimsy. Great to have a built in trimmer though. I thought about getting the 7 series, but decided to save some money because a) the new 7 is reviewed worse than the old 7 model, and I don’t like to reward that and b) I like having an integral trimmer so I don’t have to swap heads. Really nice smooth shave and definitely close enough for me. I also have sensitive skin and this was fine on it. I’m back on foils after 20 years on rotary and I think I’ll be sticking with foils from now on.

The Braun 3040s Gives a Brilliant Shave at a Remarkably Affordable Price...
I have used an electric razor since I was a spotty teenager as a wet razor damaged my skin too much!

My first electric razor was a battery powered Phillips and was great for my skin! A couple of years later while at The Ideal Home Exhibition in London I tested a mains powered, rechargeable Braun foil razor and was amazed how comfortable and quick it was, so I ordered one.

The Braun 3040s does everything I want from a razor. I tend to replace my Braun razor every three years, rather than buy a new foil and battery as they do get worn out. I figure 20 per year plus a little electricity is remarkable value. By the way, I will be 67 years old soon!

I thought it sucked at first...
I haven’t use an electric shaver in years. I was expecting big things from this one but I was very disappointed at first. It irritated my skin, didn’t shave well and required many passes before a decent cut was achieved.
After the first 2 or 3 uses I almost sent it back but decided to keep using it a bit longer to see if my skin adapts and surprisingly it did. Perhaps it’s also to do with my increasing skill in using it.
It cuts decently now, still requires a couple passes (5-11?) before a good shave is achieved but my skin doesn’t get irritated at all, unlike with a razor which used to consistently cut me. My skin doesn’t even sting anymore.
So overall I guess I’m pleased. I understand now why the reviews are so mixed.
Also, I use clipper oil to lubricate the blades every couple uses, I feel that it helps reduce heat build up when shaving and probably prolongs the life of the blades.

    A piece of junk :-(
Although slowly this razor shaves in a delicate way: no irritations whatsoever.
It is sadly also a piece of junk because it literally falls apart when shaving.
Starting with just the one now, after few months, all THREE razor blades fall out!!
I place them back and try to keep the skin in contact with the razorbut it’s useless, after a while I’ll loose one once again.
Will send it back and hopefully get a replacement?!

    Cheap razor = Poor razor!!

Probably best to go back to a Philipshave.
I have one, bought 1997!!!, which I replaced with this Braun because of the blades being dull, and expensive to replace.
I got non-originals which “pull” the hair out of your skin .
    So I’ll get the originals

    Replacement head life sho
I bought mine in December 2020 expecting the advertised 12 to 18 months shaver head life which would be more economical than wet shave blades. Great shave initially, but after 4 months performance was increasingly poor. To be fair, I do shave my whole head, so maybe 4 months to 9 months is a more reasonable expectation in such circumstances. Replaced head, works great again.

    Fantastic shave
I have been shaving since I was 15, I`m 57 now. I was given a Braun shave at Christmas 1978 and I have used Braun ever since!
I have used various models they have produce over the years, single and multi foil heads. This is only the 6th shaver I have owned such is the quality and longevity of their products.
This is simply the best one I have ever owned. The shave is excellent, the multi foil and longer hair cutter gets absolutely everything. I have a strong beard and this deals with it no problem. Its good in the hand and nicely balanced. And a fully charged battery lasts around 7-8 days.
I can heartily recommend this shaver.

    Great shaver for the money
Bought to replace a braun 3 that I’ve had for years but now won’t accept a charge. Very happy with the new one and would have given 5 stars if it wasn’t for the centre cutter had a broken retainer and would not lie flat. Had to take the one off my old shaver and is now working fine. Battery life is much improved lasting over a week.

Probably takes me longer to shave than some expensive shavers, but it’s ok. Takes a minute or so longer to go over same area 2 or 3 times. Battery stays charged for more shaves than I expected. Worth the money.

An absolute bargain for a great close shave
I bought this to replace an ageing Philips rotary shaver. My last 3 shavers have been Philips and I have been happy with them even though I sometimes had to finish off shaving with a razor to get a really close shave.
I am astounded by how good the shave is from this Braun shaver. It really is excellent. Time will tell how long the blades last until they need replacing, but at the price it will still be a bargain. I have only had to charge the shaver once in the past month, so the battery would appear to last some ten 5 minute shaves. It is waterproof as well. An excellent shaver. Recommended.

    Close shave
I had been shaving with blades all my life, but they have now become too expensive. So I decided to get an electric razor. With 100’s to choose from I asked my son which one should I get, he choose this Braun Series 3 ProSkin 3040s. My first and last experience with electric razors was forty years ago, and it left me with a very sore face and unshaven, so I never tried them again. But this Braun is a dream, it gets as close as the blade does, and no sore face. I wish I had taken the plunge a long time ago. I would definitely recommend this Braun.

Shocked at how great this is!
Absolutely love this shaver. First one I’ve ever used and I’m 34. I remember my dad using one years ago and it was terrible. Never thought it could compare to a standard disposable wet shave but how wrong I was! I’ve only tried this for dry shaving but the result is as smooth as silk and took no time at all. I’m sure a wet shave with it would be even better.

My skin is not irritated, sore etc and I don’t think I’ll be going back to disposables ever again.

The build quality is fantastic. Grips very well and has a reassuring weight to it that gives it an ‘expensive’ feel. Those Germans really know their stuff! Only slight downside is it doesn’t come with a 3 pin plug but for a couple of quid I bought a 2 ping to 3 pin adapter which works great.

Overall I couldn’t rate this high enough. Amazing.

Good performing shaver, value for money
Having used a Philishave for many years I felt I was taking a chance. However, I’m pleasantly surprised. I have only used it as yet in dry mode but the Braun ProSkin gives a good clean shave without effort. Because it shaves more closely than the shaver it has replaced I had a little skin reaction during the first day or two (thereafter o.k.) so it might not be suitable for someone with sensitive skin.

Amazon sent a replacement item for one that was reported as “Handed to resident” which was most certainly not me. However it was sorted out by Amazon. As I’ve had this model before I can review it as giving a good shave but with all shavers a replacement head and cutter was required within 9 months, I found the trimmer very handy as on other models the head needs removed and trimmer attached, on this model it just pops up. **** Four stars

Unfortunately the charger plug does not fit in to a standard UK shaver plug socket. Luckily I still had my old one which fits both the plug socket and the shaver. However the new razor does not work with the charger / mains lead plugged in, so have to ensure it is always charged. This lasts about 7 shaves, so only once a week to charge! but a good razor over all!

Overall I have been very happy with this shaver. It is quiet and the battery lasts me around 10 days with daily shaving. My only slight issue is that the foil it doesn’t glide quite as smoothly as my previous Braun shaver, but that may simply be because you the newness and needing to wear in a bit. I mention this as it may not be suitable for those with really sensitive skin. Otherwise this does a solid job and I would recommend it to others

Definitely worth buying if you want to use it to shave your head hair as short as possible.
Bought this as I wanted to start shaving my hair as short as possible. I use it either daily or every other day now and have been for a few weeks. Bit of irritation at the start but I put that down to my head not being used to it.

I’ve used it dry, wet, with shaving cream/foam, in and out of the shower and it worked well every single time: maybe a bit faster taking hair off with cream but then you have to take more time rinsing the cream off every time.

Easy to clean by rinsing under the tap a few times (on and off), taking the head off and giving it a shake, brushing any residue out, and then rinsing again.

Charges in an hour or maybe less

Only bad thing is it doesn’t come with a case but it’s got a protective cap so it doesn’t turn on or rub against the inside of a bag.

    Would definitely recommend.

As a woman I was looking for a shaver that actually works, because women’s shavers are crap, cheapy things that fall apart within months (it’s taken me 4 of them to learn…) THIS however works wonders, shaves my fanny bald, my legs smooth, and you’d never believe I grew hair on my top lip with this thing. There’s no irritation. The way the foil strips are individually on springs is genius, great for all those awkward angles. If anyone is considering this, go for it.

Thankfully, this shaver was a replacement for a series 3 I have had for a long time and was pleased with. The new one has no stand, but it fitted the old one. The recharge lead plug’s pins are too narrow and falls out of the shaving socket. Again, the old one fitted. It is a very good shaver and I am happy with it, but suggest it is only good as a replacement for an older Braun series 3 for the reasons already given.

    Braun Series 3 3040s
Been using these for many many years, (still got a series 3 grey shaver!). Dropped my current shaver and the mechanism that drives the head blades sprang off never more to be seen so I had an old fashioned wet shave this morning. When this arrived around half an hour ago, I decided to try it out as my neck and sides of my face weren’t as close as I’d have liked. Smooth as the proverbial after using the Braun! I’m amazed as I’d never thought it possible to get a closer shave with an electric razor than a traditional wet one.
The old grey series 3 is much much slower than the new, but motors as well as battery technology has come on greatly in 20-30 years and on the whole, I must say I’m very pleased.
I have never tried using any of my Braun razors wet, maybe I’ll try it with this one. Seems odd using it like a traditional razor to me but then I was born during WW2 so different mindset.

This is my second Braun razor (I have one at home and one at work).

Unfortunately I have sensitive skin and find wet shaving very irritating and it also brings my face out in a rash. I still feel discomfort with an electric razor, just not as much.

I can use these for at least a week, possibly two before they need to be recharged. The shave itself is good (admittedly not as close as a wet shave, but close enough).

Personally, I haven’t used this in the shower (who shaves in the shower?) so not sure if all that water would eventually cause issues with the longevity or functionality of the machine, so for now I can categorically state that I am delighted with it.

I bought this shaver to replace his old one, he loves it so very happy with the purchase.

Has a really nice weight to it and does not feel cheap, the rubber on the side makes it feel comfortable in the hand. The shaving head moves around as you shave and still feels as good as his old shaver which had a swivel head. The fast charging is great meaning the shaver is fully charged in one hour. Its also alittle quieter then his older shave which he said he liked.

This replaced the same model that died after year 3. I’ve done the top of the range 200 shennanigan and it’s all a lie! Don’t waste your cash. This shaves as good and IF worse, not noticeable so stick with this 30-40 model and replace after 2 years… it’s clearly the way forward IMHO. Simples.

    Replacement for old Brau
Bought for 37. My previous shaver was Braun and lasted me well over ten years – it was still going strong with a good battery, but the foil broke, and I thought its not so much more money for a new shaver than it would be for another foil… so here we are.
In comparison to my old Braun it took a little getting used to the shape for holding it (my old one was straight, and this has a curvy grip). The cutting of hair is better than my old one (although the blades must have been blunt over the years). I also prefer the new beard trimmer – it works a lot better.
Battery life seems OK. You get full power up until the last few seconds when it goes dead and you need to recharge. My old one would just gradually slow down, so you knew when it was time to recharge. Both have the 5 minute fast charge feature, which can be a life saver!
All in all, this shaver is pretty decent. For 37 I think it was a bargain – especially if it lasts as long as my other Braun.
Update: My foil finally broke after 2 years 10 months use. Battery still working well. Still happy with it.

Golden Review Award: 110 From Our UsersGood for Sensitive Ski
My skin is a little sensitive so was a little worried that an electric shaver would irritate the skin as previous shavers I have used have done. But this was a surprise. I have only used it as a dry shave to try it out and it shaves as close as a razor without very much discomfort.
The blade area does get a little hot though after using it for about 5 minutes and there is very minor dryness and irritation after using it but not much more than a wet razor shave and nothing that would prevent me from using it again.
For sensitive skin users like myself I would recommend this shaver if you are looking for a convenient shaver without having to wet your face and lather up. But I would recommend using an after shave balm to help cool and moisturise the skin afterwards.

    It Works For Me
A wet shave using a Fusion 5 blade is the closest shave I have ever got, but I decided to give electric shaving a go for convenience (I had last used an electric shaver about 30 years ago, and was not overly impressed, but figured they must have improved over that period) I didn’t want to pay an arm and a leg, so settled on this shaver, after seeing good reviews, at a price of approx. 34 – and I’m pleased. They have improved over the years, and it gives a reasonably close shave; I get a closer shave, drying off after a shower, rather than using it wet shaving in the shower. A full charge lasts about a week, and it takes about an hour to recharge. It’s easy to clean; take the head off and run it and the shaver under the tap. This has now become my standard method of shaving, and I keep the Fusion 5 blade for special occasions !!!

    Great value does the job.
Bought this for the old man for Christmas. He loves it. He struggled to believe it’s waterproof and was very protective over it when I showed him how to clean it by running it under the tap. He still doesn’t believe it’s waterproof but hopefully he’d get the jist.

I got the series 7 a month early which I can’t complain love that too but the price difference is huge and they both cut the same. Yes the 7 looks better and battery life is 5 mins longer but that’s it. The old man very happy and must say the 3 feels more rugged than the 7.
The 7 feels if u drop it that’s game over but with the 3 though it’s looks aren’t appealing it feels rough and ready.

The shave quality depending on ur skin but as a daily or on the 3rd day shaving it’s neat and tidy. Any longer than 3 days it’s gonna struggle with the hair growth.
Give it time few shaves by week 2 your skin will adapt and will feel just as close as a basic to medium razor.
All in all great Value great for a daily shave never going back to razors again.

Golden Review Award: 52 From Our UsersGood value for money, next model up not really worth the money
I took some time to research the best value-for-money rechargeable wet electric shaver, and I think the Braun 3040 might be the one.

In term of shaving performance, this is very good, even on dry shaving.
I think people not shaving frequently may be disappointed, as this is not designed for cutting long hairs/beards. However, a precision trimmer is built-in for sideburns etc, and people shaving every day or every few days should be happy.

Compared to the Philips shavers I had in the past, with rounded heads, this seems to perform better, and it’s shaving a much wider area in one go.

Other Philips models currently sold on Amazon for a similar price as the Braun 3040 don’t include precision trimmers, and take much longer to fully charge, or are just dry models (much harder to keep clean). The replacement blades are also likely to be more costly.

Build quality is very good, and the device feels robust. It’s the first time I have a waterproof shaver, and it’s going to make proper cleaning some much easier.

If using for wet shaves, or cleaning the head under running water frequently (as opposed to using the provided brush for “dry” cleaning), Braun recommends to put some oil on the foils once a week (oil not provided), else water will make the mechanism too dry. I believe this is good advice as I had the same experience with clippers, but would have been nice to have some oil provided.

Blades/foil should last for about 18-months, according to Braun, and cost about 20 to replace. Item is losing one star because of this, as spare blades shouldn’t cost 60% of a new shaver price. Lots of people will buy a new shaver, which is not very green.

Some people are reporting that the precision trimmer does not work, but it’s moving so quickly that it may not appear to be working (when just looking at it).

Some people are reporting that their shaver is not charging fully: the lights are indeed confusing. There are three charging lights, but only the top two light up when fully charged. The third light (red) is just to indicate low battery. It would have been better for Braun to just use the three lights as charge normal charge indicators.

There is also an indicator at the bottom that is supposed to remind users when the blades have to be replaced. I guess it may just be based on duration, as opposed to actually usage/count.

Differences with the next model up (Braun Series 3 3080), currently sold on Amazon for 30 more:

    * The cutting mechanism/blades/foil are exactly the same (so shaving performance will be basically the same)
    * The battery life is the same. Charging time is the same
    * Motor is the same, and body is broadly the same (apart from colours, and one more switch)
    * The 3080 comes with a charging station. 3040 with just a charging cable. As it’s recommended to fully discharge before recharging (to preserve the battery), and charging should only have to be done about once a week (for 1 hour), I am not sure a charging cradle is that necessary
    * The 3080 comes with a traveling pouch. 3040 just has a protective plastic cap. However, third party travel pouches can be bought for 10
    * The 3080 has an additional switch to lock the blades lower for sensitive areas

None of this is worth an extra 30 to me, and it’s interesting to see that the 3080 model is rated much higher on Amazon by customers, while the shaving performance should be basically the same as the much cheaper 3040…

    well made electric shave
I got this as an alternative method of shaving my elderly father, (I normally wet shave myself and him and have no experience of electric shavers before this) . This is a Which best buy , so I know it’s a good product of its type. It seems to be robust and well made. It shaves my dad without cutting him … however it takes ages compared to a wet shave …. I like a nice close shave and you’d have to mess around for a long time to achieve that with this product. Although I assume all electric shavers must be similar in this respect. I’m glad we have though as an alternative , and I have cut dad a couple of times wet shaving and its been really hard to stop the bleeding . So perhapes if i persever i’ll get used to using one of these. Oh the little pop out clipper works well , as I said .. this is well made

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersIGNORE THE ONE STAR REVIEWS - ESPECIALLY ABOUT THE "LOOSE FIT" OF THE CHARGING CABLE!
I really do not understand the people who knock this product. for me at least this is simple the best electric shaver (not the most expensive ) that I have owned.
Used dry it does not beat, but certainly rivals, a wet shave to which I have always returned in the past. I have a feeling that this time I might stick with the Braun especially if wet use improves the experience even further.
I do not understand the people who complain about cutting – unless they are teenagers chopping the tops off acne.
A light pressure is all that is needed and apart from not helping, excessive pressure makes it less efficient (and uncomfortable) as the floating heads are fully compressed and cannot “float”

The complaints about the loose fit of the charging cable was the first thing I checked and I thought at first I was going to join the chorus of complaints however ….. push it in VERY firmly and it will click into place – you will then think it is stuck! There is however no trick needed, just a firm grip on the plug and PULL!!

My advice is to ignore all the doubters and shell out a modest sum for a great shave.

    Good Purchase
Had previously been a Philishave user for many years & put up with the resulting shaving rash on my neck. I do not have a thick beard growth & was looking for something for a quick tidy-up each morning ( without the rash!). Having never used a foil shaver before I thought I’d give this product a try as it was a good price. Can report that it does a reasonable tidy-up job. I do need to go over some facialareas 2 or 3 times but I would naturally shave that way anyway. The very first shave was close & impressive but over the weeks this has diminished a bit. Don’t believe those who tell you it emulates a wet shave. No it doesn’t. Overall I’m happy with it. Have only used it as a dry shaver so can’t comment on the wet shave. My advice is to definitely give it a try. I won’t go back to a Philishave now. The best bit for me is that the foils do not give me a neck rash at all. The product charges well & quickly & it’s simple to clean. The charging lead is also much longer than The one I’ve had with a Philishave which is useful. Good product for the money.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersA fantastic electric foil shaver at a great price.
At less than half price compared to Boots and delivered next day you can’t go wrong.
Braun are such a well know name you know you are buying quality. This shaver claims to be the best on 3 day stubble, and it doesn’t disappoint.

It is a fully wet and dry shaver, so you can use it as a standard dry electric shaver, or use it with shaving gel or foam in place of a razor. You can use it in the shower or bath, and can wash it under running water to clean it after use.
I use it every day as I can’t use a standard razor. I have psoriasis and shaving literally tears my skin open. This shaver is gentle enough to use without leaving my face sore, but good enough to shave it very close. It shaves closely on the first pass, so there is no need to go over the same bit over and over again, reducing irritation.
At has an integrated trimmer for sideburns, which slides up with a push from your thumb and two shave heads which move independently to keep the shaver in contact with your face.
The battery life seems good. On the day I received it, I charged it for 5 hours as instructed. The next instruction was to use it until the battery runs out and then charge it again. This conditions the battery so that a standard full charge will only take one hour. I will have to wait and see, as I have shaved every day since that first charge and it is still going strong. 7 days so far.

I can’t fault this shaver, and just hope it lasts a long time.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersForget Gillette, this is the best a man can get.
I buy a lot from Amazon and always use reviews when deciding what and where to buy from. Having 2 young kids means I barely have time to fart yet alone write a review. But this product is SO good I felt that I had to make time to do both Amazon and this shaver the justice it deserves.
I haven’t used an electric shaver for years (20 odd) and just assumed that wet shaving using a blade was the best way to get a close shave. The recent trend for beards has saved me a fortune in those little orange packets of eight but due to a recent job change (and more white hairs appearing in the beard region) I’ve needed to go back to daily shaving.
This bad boy arrived last night and I thought I’d give it a go before sticking it on charge. WOW. My face looked like a 12 year old boy’s who was patiently waiting for his balls to drop. Think Sade. Smooth Operator. This is the biz. All those skinny men around the office with their baby soft faces I just thought weren’t real men with their barely there bum fluff. No. They must have one of these! I’m going to have to show it to the Turkish bloke in my local barbers (who once said I had a ‘strong’ beard when I blunted one of his razors)
The fact that it goes in the shower? Haven’t tried it yet but can’t see it making my rugged jaw any smoother.
Buy this now (especially when Amazon are knocking it out so cheaply!)

Great razor but not the closest shave.
Until I bought this, I only wet shaved and I hadn’t had a shave for 6 months. But my face was getting too hot due to the large amount insulation around my jaw. So, I bought this as it looked like it would be good for trimming and shaping my beard and completely revealing areas that hadn’t seen the light of day for months.

It worked great! As I’m lazy and don’t need to shave daily, I use it every few days and have done for just over a month now. I’m yet to test the 5 minute quick charge that it claims but that’s only because I only charged it the once when I first got it and it seems like it’s still going strong.

It is great quality, I’ve only felt it tug once, the rest of the time it has worked smoothly and easily. It is easy to clean: just take the blade off and empty out then flush out under water. And it’s really easy to use.

The reason it only gets 4 stars is that it’s not a particularly close shave unless you go over the same spot multiple times. And it would be nice if they provided even a little bottle of oil but they don’t so make sure you get some blade oil as well for occasional use.

I bought this in a lightning sale for 34.00.

It’s a very good shaver. The battery lasts a long time and it doesn’t make me rash up like the awful rotary ones do. When I used it first it was amazing as it actually cut the hair instead of just leaving red marks all over me!

I have recently converted from wet shaving so was not really sure what type would suit me best – it does seem that you have to try a few to find the right one for your type of beard. I would say I have medium thick stubble but quite dense, and this works well although it can be a chore if you let it grow out for a day or two – works best if you use it every day to keep it down.

The charge is great, it’s so quick and I’ve been on holiday and not taken the charger and it’s lasted. It comes with a plastic guard as well to protect the head and prevent it being turned on in your bag which is great.

It’s reasonably quiet for a foil razor and it’s very easy to clean.

Sure, you can get the 380s-4 but the only difference is that one has a ‘precision’ setting which locks the foils into place – trust me it’s not needed and this one is fine, save the money and just buy this one.
