To date, only devolo Magic uses the innovative G.hn technology, which offers the highest transmission speeds.

Magic therefore only takes advantage of full output in a pure G.hn environment.

The simultaneous use of other PLC adapters – even those of the outstanding devolo dLAN devices – impairs performance.

    Best Powerline Ye
Power line adapters working in harmony at high speeds, these things are wired only NOT WIFI, they plug and play and even include the Cat 5e cables (saves a few quid)

Each unit takes an IP from your router and can be configured individually, makes adding an extra pretty easy. Overall these are smashing units and better than TP link which run servers on themselves which screw up any network that isnt ‘out of the box’

These things are seriously worth the bit extra cash they cos

    A long overdue upgrade
I got these when my vbroadband was upgraded form 100Mbps to 350 and the oldser 500 speed sockets (and cables) actually took me down from 110Mbps to 50-70, it wasn’t until I plugged in at the router and found they were slowing me down I took the plunge to buy these for the 4 devices in the house and a 5th for the router as source plug. Well worth the money though the connection speeds are future proofed for future upgrades closer to 500Mbps or 1000 and beyond.

These really work! The gamer is happy!
Wow these are great! Been thinking about purchasing some for years but just never got round to it. With the pandemic in full effect and everybody tapped into the bandwidth of the Wi-Fi this has really helped the gamers in the house. Will probably buy one more for the furthest part of the house away from the router. Set up didn’t work first time but then when I tried again with everything in the same room it just worked. Great!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGreat WiFi, great product but setup is not straight forward.
I have a reasonably complex home network of ~30 devices including phones, tablets, PCs servers and Cameras. I was looking to improve the WiFi reception throughout the house so purchased these devices. I installed the nodes without too much problem following the manual using the phone app. Although everything appeared to be working correctly I found that all of the devices that could only use the 2.4 GHz band (like my Ring Cameras & doorbell) would not connect to the new network. After a search with Google, I separated the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz bands by giving them different SSIDs. I couldn’t find a way of doing this on the phone App (which is a bit unreliable) so used the browser interface to the devices which is really good (but insecure). Once I made the changes, everything started to connect with no issues.

In Summery my experience of the Devolo Mesh WiFi is:
    * Great WiFi
    * Great Functionality. The browser setup and features such as the “guest” network are excellent
    * Poor phone App
    * Setup was a little more complicated than expected.

    POST INSTALLATION UPDATE.

The powerline connection on one of the three nodes kept failing (2-3 times in a 24 hour period) and needed to be turned off and on again. I referred the problem to Devolo technical response and got a fairly patronising RTFM response. I believe the issue was happening because I have 2 electrical distribution boards in my house, one for the kitchen and one for the rest of the house. The adapters do not seem to be able to establish a robust connection unless all the nodes are connected on one board.

Excellent product but recently the repeater has disconnected from master unit, quick to reset but means unplugging and bring back to room with master. Not sure why. Still best set I’ve had

    Mesh WIFI works well.
It clones the main router in my case upstairs and my office down stairs. No issues with uninterrupted wifi coverage. use my mobile wifi enabled calls across it I then feed the Ethernet into two 5 port switches to pickup 4 PC, X-box, printer, TV Top box and Raspberry Pi 4

    Saved the day!
Amazing! Thank god for this product.

I have a Vodafone router which doesn’t support mesh systems and was pulling my hair out trying to find a solution to awful WiFi speeds (presumably due to thick walls). WiFi extenders weren’t helping at all. Next to the router I was getting 70MPS download; in my bedroom next door (no more than 4m distance) I was getting 11!!!

This device is awesome – plugged it into my bedroom and voila! 70MPS download speeds. I actually bought 2 devices (1 for the bedroom next to mine – further from the router) but didn’t need it as the signal in my room is strong enough for the rest of the flat.

    Brilliant.

    A solid home networking produc
Very impressed. The biggest benefit for me of this model versus other powerlines is how stable the speed, latency and jitter is.

If I had one criticism, the powerlines seem to prefer allowing connectivity on a 2.4GHz channel before 5GHz channels which especially in areas of high interference result in poor speed performance. To resolve I’ve turned off 2.4GHz entirely, and performance is excellent, however this might be an issue with legacy devices that do not support 5GHz bands.

All in all, I feel this product whilst expensive was absolutely worth the money, as the quality of the connection is excellent.

Mesh wifi and powerline work well
My Virgin Media hub 3 router is in the upstairs study in the corner of my house. My Hi Fi system is diagonally opposite in the downstairs corner of the house. As I didn’t want to ‘hardwire’ from router to music streamer using ethernet cable I decided to try an over the mains system. I am pleased to say this works very well, and to my ears the sound of the music coming through on ‘Tidal’ is very good. There is no signal break up so far.
    Wifi on phones and tablet was weak or non existent when away from the router. (The hub 3 is not that good anyhow). I looked into wifi mesh systems and wifi extenders but decided on the Devolo system because;
    a) this can be set up as a mesh system; same SSID, password as the hub 3 so don’t need to change when moving around the house,
    b) over mains data transmission which works well for my Hi Fi,
    c) don’t loose the use of an electrical socket, although Devolo do state that you shouldn’t plug the unit into a mains extension cable. (The mains extension cable can however run out through the Devolo socket). Also on this point, if you put the Devolo plug into a double wall socket shared with some other appliance, this has the same effect as using an extension lead. They say it can effect the wifi signal.
    d) Fairly easy to set up.

    Main downside: expensive.

Wifi speeds around the house vary from day to day, hour to hour. I am on the VM 300 mbps supply, and sometimes I get that around the house but more often than not I get between 120 to 250 mbps. I think the fluctuation is more to do with Virgin Media than the Devolo sockets. Also the two wifi plugs are hidden. One behind the television in one room and the other in a corner behind my hi fi gear in another room.

One other thing, I live in an oldish house and mains electrical system for the power sockets is a single circuit upstairs and downstairs. I do not know how this would effect powerline data transmission on most houses with at least 2 separate circuits.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersImpressive coverage and speed
Straightforward to set up and use. The 3 plugs provide complete coverage throughout the house.

    Some points to note:
    1. When installing, the instructions tell you to turn off the WiFi on your existing router so that the Devolo plugs can take over. It is very important with Virgin Media Hub 3 that you only disable the WiFi, and NOT put the router into Modem mode. I did this and it didn’t work. Disable the WiFi using the advanced settings and you’ll be golden!

    2. We have two fuse boxes (a new extension required a new RCD box) and the plugs work across the old and new! On the original fuse box, the upstairs and downstairs sockets are on different circuits. No problems at all.

    3. There is a guest network which you can configure once the standard setup is complete. Find the IP address of one of the plugs (easily found using the app) and connect to it using a browser. From here you have a web interface which you can use to set up the guest network.

The supplied instructions don’t mention connecting directly to the plugs for additional configuration, which they really ought to.

Does the trick, easy to install but buggy WiFi clone feature !
Awesomely easy to install. Great user interface, managed to reach 790 Mbps in an old listed Victorian building with old wiring. Very stable connection and seamless roaming between my Asus DSL-AC68U modem-router and the devolo AP. I am very impressed. The great thing about devolo WiFi access points is that they are able to select the most appropriate channels to broadcast on independently from your modem-router; so that even though your modem-router and your devolo AP are sharing the same WiFi name (SSID) and password (WPA personal key) the strengh of your wifi signal, the reliability and related bandwidth as well as noise levels are constantly optimised. I am not giving 5 stars though, due to the buggy WiFi clone feature, which kept failing at cloning my existing SSID and password via WPS. I had to proceed manually and setup the SSID and key myself via the devolo WiFi access point myself 🙁

    Strong Wi-Fi throughout the home
I bought this to improve the Wi-Fi strength in the back bedroom I use as a home office, as it is the furthest room away from the router. This was very simple and quick to set up following the included instructions, it’s also worth using the WPS button on your existing router to send it’s network name and password to the new Wi-Fi adapter, so that the adapter uses the same network credentials. Mine is now plugged into the room below the home office so that is on the same wiring circuit as the router, and I have a full strength Wi-Fi signal in the office above. Wish I’d bought this months ago!

Great Product but expensive and Install instructions are poo
I ordered from AMAZON on Saturday 20th Feb , delivered to Northern Ireland on Monday 22nd Feb, great service. Currys’ delivery quoted 3-5 working days.

Working & Schooling from home has a 4 laptops, 4 mobiles & printer in one room so I upgraded from Devolo 500 to Magic 2 WiFi home kit. Thankfully I read previous comments warning of enclosed instructions and to down load instructions from Devolo support UK. but I found I had to read both and fill in the gaps. If Devolo had explained the correct sequence and Mesh/Cloning features much clearer! it would be 5Stars!!!

The supplied instructions start with plugging in both WiFi Adapters , then LAN Adapter connected to Router. Conversely the downloaded instructions start (3.3.1) with Plugging in and connecting LAN adapter to router then both WiFi Adapters. Both instructions explain the system will automatically link & setup. This I suspect would leave you with 2 separate WiFi networks, one for your original WiFi Router and one for the Devolo WiFi adapters, each with their own passwords/Keys. The downloaded instruction then go on to explain (3.3.2) Expanding an existing Magic 2 network. Then the supplied instructions introduce Mesh Technology, whereas the down loaded instructions refer to the WiFi Clone function at (3.3.4) under ‘Integrate the WiFi Adapter into an existing WiFi network’. At this point ONLY the Supplied instructions state ‘Only Connect one Magic WiFi Adapter for the initial setup process’.

Reading between the lines, I proceeded as follows:- As per connect sequence of downloaded instructions, I powered up and linked a LAN & a single WiFi adapter. I checked and had a Devolo named WiFi which I could connect to using the Wifi Key of the Devolo adapter. I then pressed the PLC button on the WiFi Adapter and then the WPS button on my existing WiFi enabled router. Letting the adapters & router stabilise, I found I now had only one WIFI network name which was that of my original router and password of the same. I then went on to add the 2nd WiFi Adapter, noting when I plugged it in, it had its own Devolo Wifi signal. I then followed the down loaded instructions (3.3.2) ‘Expanding an existing PLC network by adding another Magic 2 WiFi Adapter’, which was to press the PLC button on the first WiFi adapter I had twinned with the LAN adapter. Presto — the 2nd Wifi Adapter linked, all devices stabilised and had a single common WiFi signal name with password of my original WiFi Router. I can now move around the house with a network from three WiFi devices but with a single common Name & password.

Getting excellent performance, happy with 3year guarantee. It is expensive but YGWYPF!!!!!

I have been using TP-Links for years, but recently for whatever reason, I have had 4 sets of them from the high end to the lower end and they have failed to work after a few weeks/months. I decided to give these a try and they have been amazing. 350Mbps Virgin line and was getting 10/20Mbps over the TP-Link lines and now getting 100-150Mbps which is still low but its a much more stable and reliable connection to my home office from the router, than I was getting from the TP-Links.

If you are interested in these read this
Ok, first some history, i live in a 16th century old building, it has thick walls and is L shaped and i have an office that is 50m away, i have a 40MBs download speed from my provider. I have tried every thing, Powerline adaptors, wireless extenders, Netgear orbi units, ubiquity mesh finally settling on 6 tenda mesh units for the past year. I have had all sorts of issues, low speeds some days ok somedays useless, mostly useless, at best 8-10 Mbs my office was mostly unuseable, yhe best i could ever get was a wired connection to my router then 36 mbs but around the house really rubbish, i could not run cables due to the layout, anyway after reading a review of these i gave it a go.
Well setting up was not straightforward, ignore the app and do it manually worked first time. So plugged the lan near my router in tthe middle of the house, arggh its rubbish, up and down speeds and random dropouts, the office was 2mbps, its going back. Then i moved the lan and router close to my distribution board on the first socket of the ring main and wowser…. i have wireless everywhere, not only near the router but all over, i have 1 wireless in the lounge and 1 in my office, i have 37mbs everywhere, even in my office , my cameras work brilliantly ( they never have before), i keep testing as i cant beleive it, but as of today its been perfect, no dropouts, no glitching when streaming, So with selective positioning of the lan unit it can be the magic answer, im not sure why moving it close to the dis board worked but it did,so pair the units manually then if your router is not in the ideal position, run a temporary lan cable and try the lan unit in different sockets to get the best, ignore the mobile app and run the devolo cockpit app to get the speeds between units, also make sure you use at least cat5E cable from the router to the lan unit. Also you can clone your existing wifi so you dont have differing ssid, just 1 seemless network.Well done Delovo

    Eventually (with help)......it works!
This is not cheap…in fact if one buys an extra add on unit to enable two extra rooms at far end of house to get wifi one is looking at a total of 279 compared to the the BT Hotspot system I was replacing which costs c.60. However it does work but would have been impossible to install if I hadn’t been able to get help from an local IT expert who talked me through the whole process. You get what you pay for and it does feel a premium product compared to the BT item. It is obviously originally made for the continental market (German?) as the photographs in the accompanying instruction booklet are of different models with european plugs and have the wires coming from the bottom of the units rather than the top. Unless you are very techie I would make sure you have an expert with you as the installation could well drive you mad as it consistently fails to connect. I do live in quite a large old house with very old wiring. I suspect a new build small house would be much easier. Anyway I would recommend it although I do note some reviews here saying it drops out after a few days. I am not looking forward to the next power cut when I will have to reconfigure it without professional help. So far so good though.

Massive improvement on other powerline units
Purchased the LAN only version to avoid ny WiFi mesh issues. It replaces an existing BT powerline with WiFi setup that flaked out (constant drop out, intermittent network connection, unable to use screen mirroring or maintain connection to thr HiFi media storage drive located in my office) all after upgrade to new sky broadband router and Q box.

The nee unit is used to connect my network to smartTV, Sky Q box and HiFi system. It connected in seconds of installation and now everything works brilliantly. All systems function at full capability, football can be cast to 55 inch screen with no judder or loss of quality.

One of the reasons for select the LAN only version is that the router gives satisfactory coverage around the house as I have supplemented it with a Ubiquiti UniFi AP to reach the garden and top floors with ease.

Over 12 years in 2 homes have used powerline to support connectivity. This LAN version is by far the best, yes you have to pay for it but in my opinion it is value for money.

In context the house is circa 1995 with existing wiring, and solid internal wall construction. The master unit is also plugged into an 4 way extension lead (adding to potential issues it has over come)

Expensive but adaptors are excellent! Install instructions and associated App are very poo
Firstly the positives. I purchased the Devolo Magic-2 2400 whole home to replace a set of ageing AV-500 adaptors. What a difference they have made to our home network! On our home computer which is the furthest machine away from our router the old adaptors used to give us around 8-9Mbps per second on a speed test. When first plugged in the new adaptors were showing 55-59Mbps per second. Even during busy times I regularly see high 38Mbps – 41Mbps per second. My Son’s home computer which is closer regularly sees low to mid 60Mbs per second.

We have also seen large improvements to our WiFi signal upstairs where the two satellite units are located. Again regularly seeing mid-high 40Mbps where would may see 20 at most being connected to the router.

Now for the negatives, they are very expensive but I would say worth it based on what it has done in our home.

The worst aspect for me though were the installation instructions were inaccurate and the associated iOS app woefully poor. The written instructions supplied and the App tell you to do two different things – in my case the App was correct which would be great if it didn’t keep crashing, hanging or refusing to ackknowledge you had two adaptors on the network. Everytime I tried to join the WiFi Adaptors to my existing network it kept telling me they were not detected.

It wasn’t until I decided to use them as just home plugs and downloaded the Devolo Cockpit software that I could then see they had in-fact been configured on the network and were working as expected. The Devolo Cockpit Windows app is perfectly adequate and does the job – the iOS app is not and I can understand why it gets such appalling reviews. Please Devolo Fix it now.

Overall summary – installation was far more torturous than what it should have been but now it is up and running I am extremely happy with the performance of the hardware.

    Amazing
I was skeptical about buying a power line adapter. I live in a 135-year-old Victorian house whose electrics haven’t been updated much in the last 30 years, and I worried that they would not give suitable transmission for an internet signal, but the WiFi transmission through my walls is so dismal that using the internet was basically impossible in any room except the one with the modem/router in it, so I thought I’d give it a go.

I received the devolo Magic-2 this morning. It took 1 minute to take it out of the box and read the instructions. I plugged the bigger unit into the wall in the room where I need the internet connection, plugged the other unit into the wall in the room with my modem/router, and connected that second unit to the router with the supplied CAT cable. 3 minutes later and I had a WiFi connection in my back rooms that is at least as fast as the connection in the router room at the front of the building.

Easy to install, awesome performance. Very happy with this purchase.

I replaced some similar style TPL powerline adapters that often dropped both the Wi-Fi and direct signals. The Devolo Magic was easy to install and worked right out of the box and has given faultless performance both for Wi-Fi and for direct signal connection. Our tablets connect every time and there is no more dropping of the direct signal when watching streaming TV.

Works great in our modern apartment.
These devices are very much dependant on your home’s wiring. In my old house with a mishmash of wiring standards from the dawn of electric in homes there was no point in even trying these.

However in my new (2006ish) apartment this works brilliantly for getting the Lan connection from our Fibre internet connection to another room that we use as the office. The max 2.5gb/s speed may be overkill for a 150mb/s internet connection but I tend to work on the ‘overkill’ policy when working with this sort of thing. When speed testing there is ample overhead that the net connection is the limit and not these.

I went for the LAN only version so cannot comment on the WiFi side of things but for providing a stable connection between rooms it works just fine for us. I may add a 3rd unit later for the living room…

    Good, Solid, Quick.... expensive
I bought these to replace some Netgear 1200 poweplugs that were driving me up the wall. Namely the Netgear models would occasionally drop connection and “go to sleep” now and then. An issue which I just couldn’t fix as they didn’t have the function to turn of this power saving feature.

Anyway concerning the Devolo Magic 2-4000. What can I say… a bit like a well oiled machine they’ve not missed a beat in 2 months (and counting).

The install software wasn’t “Apple level” friendly but after a few clicks and attempts I managed to set them up to my preferences with no issue (turned off power saver mode), and once done you don’t need to ever really go back. So solid stable connection.. tick!

Speed wise in fairness they’re not much quicker than the old Netgear 1200 models. I am getting about 140-150MB so quicker yes than the Netgear which did actually give me 120MB. However the Devolo connection is solid and stable so I’m as pleased as punch. So speed… tick!

Additionally this model has three outputs on the “output” plug which is incredibly useful in this new age of home working as it means I can have multiple devises plugged in at once without having to resort to the dreaded Wi-Fi or having to purchase additional expansion units. Perfect for a small home office!

So in conclusion if you are after a solid stable powerplug solution then they come really recommended, night and day compared to the old Netgear ones I had. No they probably wont give you a 240MB connection and yes they are a tad expensive but I guess you get what you pay for.

Compared to comparable TP-Link products at lower prices, I found these Devolo power line extenders to be much more reliable than TP, offering stable Wi-Fi and LAN connections, which is critical to me as someone who relies on a stable connection for the webinars I host. I haven’t had a single issue with them. The setup was a bit tricky based on my specific requirements, but their tech support was incredibly helpful. I’m now a loyal Devolo customer and will likely never go back to other brands.

    Pricey but well worth i
Bought this as I needed to improve my WiFi signal from my BT home hub 2. Set up was easy, then set up as Mesh network. Was still losing Internet on hub, so switched the hub WiFi signal off, strangely the Internet has not dropped out once, and the speed through the adaptors is actually the speed I pay for.
Yes, seems pricey but pretty well future proof for some years to come. Also worked better than I expected so happy with the cost. They are also pass through, where as some others that cost nearly as much using older technology don’t, so another bonus.
18/4/21 I have now moved one adapter to a summerhouse 20m from the house which is fed by RCD spur, and it still works well keeping the wife happy with wifi in the summerhouse. The speed and connectivity is still brilliant.

Expensive but perform well just don’t expect the speeds advertised
I use the devolo magic 2 to to extend the Wifi and lan in my home. Easy to install with initial pairing to existing devices quick and easy. All done within a few minutes of unpacking. I use the develo app to change settings as needed along with the develo cockpit software on my desktop. You will not get the speeds mentioned but you will likely get better performance than any other powerline ethernet device. The devices connected to the same mains ring main as the router device get 1100Mbs. On different rings and depending on other kit plugged in that may cause interference I get 200 to 400Mbps. The devices are up all the time, at least 100 days uptime and no issues or degradation in performance. No restarts required. Devices all auto update firmware without issue. I personally have Virgin fibre so set the comms to MIMO 17a which markedly improved transfer speeds. My home was rewired 8 years ago with a relatively new consumer unit. All in all I am very pleased with these devices. Easy to setup and once running you can just forget about them and let them do their business.

    Great wi-fi, naff instructions.
The wi-if improvement is amazing. My house is built of thick stone, so from a 200mb line I was getting 0.1mbs in the room next door to the room with the router. With this power link it shot up to 80mbs. The setup instructions are a bit naff. It comes with the password on the instruction guide, but you actually need the password from within the cockpit software that you will need to download from the devolo site. Once I did this it worked perfectly.

So when it comes to IT kit nothing is ever as easy to instal as it says on the pack or the geeky online reviews say, so if it says plug n’play I allow at least an hour. I wanted to upgrade my old Devolo 500 system which has served me reasonably well for more than 5 years in anticipation of finally getting fibre broadband installed. I live in a large old property with very thick walls and geriatric electrics and to make matters worse the broadband entry point is at the opposite end of the house to where the family need a decent wifi signal to use a smart TV, wifi assisted iPhones & iPads etc. Years ago when I installed the Devolo 500 I had to rely on Devolo’s excellent telephone support, so I was again prepared for the worst. BUT … it took me only about 20 minutes to install this ‘Magic 2-2400 Wifi next Whole Home mesh’ version and successfully clone it to my Vodafone broadband router. Lots of reviewers say the in-pack instructions are poor but if you read them thoroughly (5 minutes!) and follow exactly, it’s easy. Most important thing I found (which felt a bit counter-intuitive) is to plug in both Magic Wifi adapters first, before you plug in the Lan adapter &/or connect it to your router. Then just follow the instructions. I only had 1 glitch when one of the Magic Wifi adapters didn’t automatically pair with the Lan adapter, – easily resolved by pulling out the one that had paired (ie was showing both solid white lights) and follow the simple instruction for manual pairing the other. The result 3 days later is a solid fast reliable wifi throughout the house, albeit not 2400 mbps, but pretty damn quick and no buffering. Happy days!

Simply brilliant. We have Sky Q and Sky Broadband. The problem we suffered with was always Wi-fi drop out upstairs. We bought a sky booster and it was useless and had to reset sky q probably 3 times a week. Devolo has eradicated this problem and everything runs at 100%. Also amazing as can plug our sons PlayStation into the Ethernet cable so he gets uninterrupted gaming.

Slower than magic 2 but not by a lot.
Base station is a magic 2. When putting this into another room I see it at 176Mb/s – the same socket with magic 2 hits about 240Mb/s. So for the price the magic 1 are good bet. Magic 2 have a theoretical max of 2Gb/s, good luck with that in a domestic powerline environment. Either magic 1/2 are better then the older 500 series. In the same socket they were pushing 88Mb/s. So it depends on what you need and what your wiring is like. Magic 1 seems to be a good mid-point to me.

Great if you have no alternative
Great product and really easy to install. My flat is from 1991 and I get 176Mbit/s (~22MB/s) so definitely not bad and more than adequate for most users.

If you have the possibility of using a wired connection (ethernet) or WiFi this will give you better performance in most cases.

Overall I do recommend this product if you have exhausted all other options.

    Gives good coverage
This devolo set comes nicely packaged and includes; Starter Kit with two Powerline adapters: 1x Powerline Wi-Fi adapter (with 2 x gigabit LAN ports) + 1x connection adapter (with 1x gigabit LAN port), 1 x LAN cable.
It was really easy to set up, the main unit goes into the phone line with hub coming off it, then second unit can go wherever you need to extend the wifi to. The second unit plugs into an electrical outlet, and also has a socket on it so it doesn’t take up socket space which is really useful. We live in a big old house with solid walls so we find that our sky wifi doesn’t reach all areas, it took a couple of go’s to get the second unit in the right place- too far out and it wouldn’t connect but not far enough and it wouldn’t reach the end bedroom, but once we figured out where to place it the wifi has been excellent throughout the house. We find it more reliable than the extender that we got through sky and I am overall pleased with it.

    Fantastic new product.

I was having frequent connection problems with my old Powerline adapters. Did a bit of research and found that the Magic-1 uses a different technology. Yes it’s not compatible with the older more common standard but I’ve not had any drops or speed issues for over a month now since I bought it.

It also upgraded my wireless from a poor 2.4ghz extender to the 5ghz band which made a massive improvement.

The unit is highly configurable with higher security and it lets you select a higher channel for the 5ghz band so you can avoid all the other routers if you live in a densely populated area.

I did not need the speed upgrade that the Magic-2 offers. Couldn’t be happier.

Excellent. Even puts wifi into shed, which is on a separate wiring circuit. No loss of signal strength, and all with same login.
Far, far better then the nearly useless ‘wifi extenders’ – worth paying the extra cost for something that works really well.

They just work. This whole family of products are well thought out and designed, even having options around DSL sensitivity and tools for both iPhone or browser based configuration – as a former network engineer, this was one of the biggest negatives when folks would ask me to help them install adapters they’d bought years ago.
We have RJ45 points throughout our properties, but we use these for those odd places/corners where ethernet would be nice. For example, here we use 6 of them for some larger printers and Sky Q mini boxes (A mix of the single port and 3 port versions). After months of running them, not a single glitch or drop. Highly recommended.
Oh and we’re running the Sky stuff over it simply because a) it works and b) Their wifi is not good in large/well built properties – that and why would I want all the wireless airtime being sucked up by them? 🙂

Phase 1 simple. Plug in 2 units & press 2 buttons. Confession – I did check online first for list of plain English instructions which helped. Phase 2 will be to change name and password for the system to match the Virgin hub3 but I don’t expect any problems. It’s working well in a difficult property with a fairly large gap between transmitter and receiver over different levels.

Not perfect, but the best powerline adapters I've ever tried
I have owned two sets of powerline adapters before and both were troublesome, frequently disconnecting and needing to be reset on a regular basis. These are much more stable but not perfect. I have to reset the receiver once every 7-14 days, which is pretty good. What helps is that when the connection is lost, the LED on the receiver always starts to blink red so you know what you need to do. On the previous adapters I owned, the status LED would often show a connection all was well even though no data was being sent through. I live in a three storey house. My router is in one of the top corners and I have placed the receiving unit in the opposite corner on the ground floor. I now have WiFi coverage across the whole house.

Fast delivery from Amazon. Easy to set up and get up and running following the printed manual which is clear and easy to understand with diagrams, text and a few do’s and don’ts.
Must admit, I have virtually fitted and forgot this kit; it does what it’s supposed to do with no hassle so I’ve had no need to fiddle with the Devolo dashboard software that I installed.

Superior connectivity over cable and WiFi, but setup not easy
I had been using TP Link devices, to get cable bandwidth over my mains sockets at the other end of my house to where the router is located. However, I started to get low signal strength and disconnecting, which rendered them useless. Having done some research, I decided to take the plunge, and try these powerline devices. Initial setup failed completely, so I decided to follow the manual process for pairing the devices, which worked perfectly. I did notice you must have them not all on the same circuit, especially if there are lots of other mains devices connected, as it will cause a weak signal warning over the cables. I placed the 2 Wi-Fi/LAN devices in the same sockets where my TP-Link devices were, and they both connected to the device at the router end perfectly. To configure the Wi-Fi on them, I strongly recommend you download the app ‘Devolo Cockpit’ onto your mobile first. It will automatically detect the Wi-Fi and allow you to configure and make changes to SSID and password, so you will not need the key from the back of the devices. It is a brilliant app, and easy to use, but sometimes you need to keep re-connecting until it recognises the devices, so be patient. I get nearly 100MB on Wi-Fi, and full bandwidth of 200MB over the cables. Expensive, but well worth the money, as you are paying for superior performance and signal quality.

They work, but not a giant leap in performance in my situatio
I was using a cheap set of unbranded 200 powerline passthrough unit from about 10 years ago. Whilst they worked fast enough relative to my broadband connection, I’d often have to restart them when trying to troubleshoot weird network dropouts. I decided the best way forward was to update the powerline units to something more modern.

I needed three endpoints and wanted passthrough adaptors with WiFi on at least two of them so the Devolo units seemed like a good match.

The network dropouts have gone, so they have solved that issue. Speed-wise, connectivity to one of the units is only a little above the speed of my old 200’s but as much as ten times faster between the other two. These figures are just from the monitoring software supplied with the units. The wiring in my old house was renewed about 20-30 years ago and is quite meandering on route to the area in which the powerlines show the least speed connectivity, so I’m not surprised at the performance differential.

Wifi wise they have been a little disappointing. I had hoped to replace a pair of router/access points I had connected to the old 200s, but the devolos don’t have enough range. I did manage to replace one of the old routers and turn of the wifi on my ISP provided router, so part of my goal has been achieved. I guess I was expecting too much from little units plugged in down near the skirting boards compared to full-blown routers with external antennas. My house does have 18″ thick stone walls, so its a challenging environment for WiFi.

Setup was not difficult and they have worked without need of a restart for a few months now. The supplied monitoring software is adequate on both windows and android.

I’m happy I bought them and would choose the same brand again if I had to repurchase. The unique challenges of my old house would stretch any powerline/WiFi tech. At some point, I may run an ethernet cable to the area with the worst connectivity, but for now, everything works. I can stream 1080p video and browse the web reliably, well as reliably as my crappy 3/4G internet services provider is capable of around here.

    WiFi magic
This is a review for the ‘devolo Magic 2–2400 WiFi next: Ultimate Whole Home’, but for some reason it is showing up against the LAN starter kit and I cannot change it to the correct product.

This is a kit that helps you to improve the reach of wi-fi in your home without the need to run a cable from A to B. All units are pass through, which means you can still plug in the vacuum cleaner (etc) without needing to switch off your wi-fi first. An instruction leaflet is included in the box and it guides you through the set-up process in small, seemingly straightforward steps.

The two WiFi adapters need to be plugged in and then the LAN adapter is connected to your router; the three adapters should then go through an automatic encryption process with the LEDs on all three becoming solid white once the process is completed. Although the manual states this should take no more than three minutes, mine took considerably longer, but I think that may be because the signal coming into the house is very haphazard at the moment and with frequent drop outs. It worked in the end, but it wasn’t as fast a process as I had anticipated.

Once the setup problems had been overcome, I found my wi-fi signal much improved at the weakest spot (above the garage at the far end of the house), where I had previously experienced frequent drop-outs or no signal. So far, it has proven to be reliable, at least when the signal coming into the house is working properly and given a much-needed boost to the signal where one was virtually non-existent before. I’ll update as necessary in the future.

I bought the wired only devices to replace some TP-LInk ones that were constantly losing connection. So far after 4 months, they haven’t lost connection or pairing once, which is a god send as they are basically connecting my NAS devices to my network. Management is OK from the app and web page and firmware updating is really easy. I can highly recommend these over other manufacturers devices.

I’m a long term user of Devolo powerline products. They are amongst the most expensive for powerline adaptors especially the Magic 2) but honestly you get what you pay for. People complaining about problems with setup and connectivity are likely not following the instructions to the letter ( I have been guilty of this myself before). The app is not the greatest for functionality but I’d recommend using it when setting up a new system. Literally took 5 minutes to install these and an extra add on adaptor for fast LAN and WiFi across the whole house.

    Good speed
Excellent. I can get up to 145 Mbps real internet traffic over this from the fibre terminal, which is good for powerlines. I was looking for a powerline with a single ethernet socket and this is only model having high speed as well. I had a pair of TP Link 8010P, but these can’t get over 80Mbps. There are compatible in speed with TP Link 9020P av2000 and BT mini connectors V2 which I also had, but work with IGMP better.

If you need to connect fibre terminal to a router over WAN I would recommend these, as single LAN socket does not break IGMP broadcast for online TV channels (e.g. BT Sport).

Brilliant - easy to set up, and very fast, reliable connectio
I cannot agree with the negative reviews that appear here – my experience with Devolo has only been positive. I previously had some older Devolo adapters (I think the old 500 model) and they were easy to set up and worked for several years without a single hitch or ever needing to be reset.
Needing more speed I replaced the old Devolo 500s with three new and supposedly high-end adapters whose manufacturer name sounds a bit like ‘plink’ – OMG – they were a nightmare to set up, and then having finally got them to connect to each other, then repeatedly lost connection, literally every two or three days…meaning they had to be reset over and over.
So I decided to take the plunge and shell out for the Magic 2 triple starter kit plus an additional triple adapter. I cannot believe how easy they were to set up, and all three have worked without missing a beat ever since. I have also contacted Devolo support about updating the firmware and received a very prompt and helpful reply. Plus, the speed of these Devolo units is noticeably better than my previous ‘plink’ adapters.

First of all I have used Devolo 500 power line adapters for years I have been contemplating an upgrade we had 3. The main office has the triple ethernet one and I have one in the living room which allows me to connect my slingbox which i havent been able to use for years. I have one in my room and one in my brothers The connections show as 1.7G down to 700 but all in all they are working..

Installation was not the same as my old Devolo 500s these adapters no show up on the network like other computers whih i wasnt expecting. this has settings for the device to rename using a webinterface.
It has some vlan settings on but i dont really understand hat they do as the instructions dont really explain it from what ive read…
Each plug you plug it in press the button then press the button on the main and the light goes solid white when its paired. I would recommend these to anyone who cant run ethernet through there house but needs a solid connection.. that is what these devices do. Easy setup plug and play I havnt tried to pair them with my old adapters yet.
Do some research I chose these over other brands because I have had the old version of these for around 5-6 years. and they still work if i cant get them to pair up i will donate them to a friend.

    Great quality
This item was ordered accidentally and was not compatible with my existing, non-Magic, Develo Powerline adapter set up (I have the standard ones that preceeded the Magic range).
However, in true Develo fashion, this item has great build quality, ust like the ones I currently use. However, as it was incompatible I could not test it.
My current installation, however, consists of all Develo 1200+ powrrline ethernet adapters and they wrok perfectly in a house where signal transmissions are significantly reduced by the walls.
I now have the main one connected to my router in an upstairs bedroom, one in my upstairs office, one in the downstairs lounge, one in the kitchen and one in the cabin in the garden (this one receives it’s signals through the power cabes even though it has it’s own fusebox!).
Anywhere you go in my house or garden you can now get a strong WiFi signal and it is superbly fast.
I may not have used this one, however I know the Develo range are the best on the market.

Golden Review Award: 30 From Our UsersDONT LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS > THEY ARE GREAT BUT.....
Upgraded from develo 1200 and they are literally twice as fast. Setting them up is more of a pain there is no longer a manual add facility using the code off the back of them you have to press the button on one then on the others.

If you buy the WIFI ones TURN OFF YOUR MAIN WIFI, it conflicts with the MESH , the 1200’s did exactly the same thing and it degrades the WIFI massively. Our conservatory which is a mega long cable run used to get 30MB and now gets 60-80MB which is plugged into our sky box films now download twice as fast.

If you DONT use the wifi version anywhere IE are LAN only > the app doesn’t work on IOS or Anroid > Only deverlop Cockpit desktop for PC or MAC> its been waiting for a firmware update from develo since September > appears it needs at least 1 wifi point for the management app to function on mobile device> seems they didn’t expect anyone to not want there “crappy” wifi > and it is crappy.

I initially bought the wifi version but the “mesh” wasn’t very good, lots of signal loss , bad handover, no WIFI 6 / AX > so sent them back and bought the LAN version (which is brilliant) and then replaced my router with a Netgear RAX200 WIFI 6 router and hung another RAX200 Netgear WIFI 6 router (set in AP access point mode) off a LAN MAGIC 2 the other end of my house – Net result is rock solid Ethernet Everywhere I need it in the house and mad fast WIFI 6 AX covering the whole house.

What I’d like to see for Magic 3

1- is a 1/2.5GB port on the ethernet LAN port and on the triple – as although the LAN triple can do 2400MB’s it can only do 1GB per port > with routers / Access points now supporting 2.5GB this would save me having run a cat 7 cable in my house to the secondary Access point – which defeats the object that Magic 2 is supposed to avoid

2 – On the WIFI version Wifi 6 / AX with ideally triple band and 6 or 12 streams and work on the “mesh” handover between wifi points and automation around channels

3 – more speed you can never have enough speed 🙂

4 – A less flakey cockpit 5.1.3 it crashes lots on windows 10 , 5.1.2 runs fine > no idea why or the difference

Summary is LAN MAGIC 2 ones are brilliant , WIFI ones are “OK”. You’d probably be better of buying the 1200’s if you just want wifi as I couldn’t see any difference between magic and 1200’s but if you want rock solid LAN performance then Magic 2 is the way to go use your existing wifi and hang a “matching Access point / AP or router in running in AP mode” off the other end and you’ll get amazing matched mesh wifi (assuming your router and AP are decent)

    most reliable set ive had
hese powerline adaptors are the best ive had. the speed is nothing like they advertise which i largely expected.
but the key thing for me is reliability. i have never had a pair from any manufacturer which stayed connected as well as these have.

one point to note is i turned off all power saving options and bumped it up to full power signal to achieve this.

    excellent purchase
Needed wifi in my summerhouse which is on a different circuit/ring from my house
This has given me the same wifi strength at the bottom of the garden/summerhouse where previously i had zero coverage. Added advantage of having 2 LAN ports so can hardwire if needed. The setup was so simple – plug and play. Recommend this product

one thing i would say, the actual product is larger than i expected but does not cause me any issues.

Do Not Run Magic System at Same Time as dLAN System
From the documentation it is clear that the Magic system is not compatible with the dLAN system – but I was under the impression that the 2 systems did not interfere with each other and could be run in parallel. This is not the case!! I have multiple Devolo dLAN 1200+ devices. When I set up the Magic system to run in parrallel to the old system there were significant issues with both systems. Speeds were reduced to 1 to 10 Mbs/sec and the system frequently stopped working. I unplugged all the dLAN adapters and the Magic system is now working very well and reliably. It is about twice as quick as the dLAN system – not close to the promised speeds (I never expected that!) but I am getting around 200 Mbs/sec.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLiterally amazing
I never really write reviews but was looking through my orders to buy a 3rd connection and figured i’d say how good this system is. It’s made working from home during lockdown incredibly easy and gives super fast internet wherever I am in my flat. We live in a really old building with thick brick walls and wifi only works in one or 2 rooms – this uses the electric cabling in the flat to transfer the internet somehow – basically means I get 35mb speeds anywhere in the flat its grea

Very pleased. Easy to set up.
For some time I have wanted to run a Sky Q minibox in a manshed at the end of the garden, too far away for 5GHz wifi even with boosters. I was skeptical about a homeplug working because of the age of the wiring and potential interference from other electrical devices. But work it does. Ethernet cable from the adapter to the minibox works well enough for 1080i live video on Sky and Netflix and spare bandwidth to use the minibox wifi at the same time. Only issue is the price.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBest Powerline Adapte
I’ve been using the TP-Link AV600 Passthrough PowerLine Adapters (just a pair) in my three storey house. They worked, but were not as quick and up to the task of relocating my router which is currently in the downstairs cupboard. The connection would stall and devices weren’t able to stream media efficiently. I got these Devolo on a Lightning deal and I have to say, I am impressed. Each device gets it own IP, which means you can check them independently, there is software which monitors the connection and you can see how the connection is routed through your PowerLine Adapters. All in all, I’m impressed. They aren’t cheap, but so far really good. I can relocate my router to another room now and not lose any signal or connection.

The setup was a bit fiddly, I ended up having to reset and start over, so from that perspective it wasn’t flawless from my experience. However I would happily get this brand again, or add to my existing setup if needs be. Develo do have a triple adapter but no double with just LAN (there is one with WiFi though).

The adapters are quite chunky and tall so make sure you have room when you plug these in.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our Userswhat an awesome Powerline! Mesh system compatible.
I purchased the LAN only pack to be used in conjunction with an Amplifi HD mesh router setup.

The connection was very simple, plug one end into the power and wait for a flashing white light and then plug in the ethernet cable from the powerline to the modem or router ethernet port.

Then go to the area where you want to have a connection and plug in the 2nd powerline and wait for the white flashing light to go to a solid white light.

I then connected my MacBook to it via ethernet, ran a speed test and was getting full speed as if I was connected to the main router itself.

After confirming that it all worked I then connected my Amplifi HD router to it and enabled ethernet backhaul, the Amplifi HD rebooted with the new settings and hey presto it’s all working.

This is a brilliant powerline and the main thing is I’m achieving full speed in a location which previously had no internet at all.

Problem with Sky Q? Get these - sorted
If you need to connect to your router from a location in your house that Wi-fi signal strength is poor in, then get the starter pack.
    Brilliant way to data stream.
I have had some dropouts which may have been because of ADSL line dropouts. The only other concern is they run hot even without any mains load. If you don’t want to run cables or can’t run them then these are the answer.

This device is NOT compatible with a DLan network -
Just to be absolutely clear – this product is NOT compatible with a DLan network. It CANNOT be added to an existing DLan network for which one needs to by the DLan equivalent. This has been confirmed by personal experience (Doh!) and talking to Devolo support.

Buy only if you wish to add to an existing MAGIC network.

Thank you Amazon for accepting a return.

Other than that I’m sure that this is an excellent product – I have been very happy with DLan.

Did what I wanted it to do, sent a WiFi signal down a 50M corridor from the router to my son’s room in a barn conversion through the electrical wiring, fantastic signal, works great. Not the cheapest you can buy but works really well. Instructions not very clear because they don’t tell you to press the button to turn the thing on, but once you realise that it just sets itself up and away you go. Highly recommend.

These are really fast. If speed is what you want, worth it.
eally zippy. I used these to swap out a pair of Tplink AV 200 – their top of the line. I have to say I was very happy with the TPlink and got trouble free use out of them. But the Devolo has boosted my speed by about 15%. Do I actually need the speed? well… no. But I wanted it. So that’s the crux of the issue. If you want your network tuned the best it can be, it’s worth the price. If you aren’t obsessive, or perhaps if you’re just better adjusted than I am, there are cheaper options. But if you have the desire and the money – these are really good. And the instructions are very clear and the app for managing them works very well.

    —–
    After a week’s use
Just to add: these seem to “tune” themselves over time. Right now they are running about 25% faster than just out of the box. It’s pretty impressive stuff.

These are excellent. Initial pairing takes a few minutes, but it’s automatic so just make a cup of tea or something while the devices sort themselves out. So far (5 days or so) the devices have been completely stable and performance is very good – speeds are consistently north of 1500Mbps even over my questionable 1960s electrical wiring. That is more than 4 times what my previous TP-Link cheapo powerline solution could manage.

Be aware that the units are quite large and bulky compared to other powerline solutions, so if plugging them into a dual socket you might struggle to get anything more than a standard plug to fit in the other.

Overall, these are expensive but they are worth the money.

Many of these wlan extenders or PowerLine systems really don’t work. But these actually do. They are a bit big but solidly built and they provide a fast network across a large house of office despite concrete or steel. The admin app is simple and elegant. For me these trump anything I’ve used by Netgear, Linksys or BT. Give them a try. Amazon will take them back if you don’t get on with them anyway. (You gotta love Amazon).

This works well in my flat, solving the previous poor wi-fi in my flat (possibly due to the reinforced concrete construction of the block).

The set up is best done with the app, as it takes you through the steps, identifying when something is wrong.

My tip: I changed my Virgin Hub 3 wi-fi security to WPA2 instead of WPA/WPA2, so all are on the same security – it made a big difference, enabling prompt switching between the original hub and the 2 new mesh points.

Golden Review Award: 99 From Our UsersAn excellent work-around to counter the sh!te service i get from Virgin Media!
Due to Virgin Media’s Hub 3.0 having this new fangled, WiFi stops working whenever it feels like it, feature… working from home was a nightmare. I often upload / download large files from the works cloud, and with Virgin Media’s Hub 3.0 having a spider-sence type ability to cut my computers Wifi in the middle of said uploading / downloading, it was causing me to pretty much go insane.

After installing this baby, boom… no drop in connection, no problems, no fuss and was up and running in about 2 mins flat. Totally worth every penny! Works great with super high speed cable / fibre solutions and has changed my life (work life) forever!!!

I do however feel a little sorry for the Hub 3.0 as it will have no-one to talk to now, as I’ll no longer be stood in front of it, threatening its stupid little box shaped face with a claw hammer!

Top Product (not the hub 3.0)

These plugs set up automatically and very quickly as it says on the tin.
However, if you purchase these Magic 2 dlan adapters, (as I did by mistake, thinking I had selected the WiFi starter pack) and later buy the Magic 2 WiFi adapter, you could be in for configuration problems, because the Magic 2 dlan (nonWiFi) adapters don’t have connection buttons. This stops them ‘calling’ your new WiFi adapter, so you have to use devolo software to set up your wireless network. If you want WiFi, make sure to buy the WiFi kit.

Golden Review Award: 32 From Our UsersSuper Easy To Install - Fast Interne
I live in a house built in the 1930’s, it’s very solid and some rooms just don’t get a good signal with wifi, we had to run long ethernet cables everywhere due to this, which is unsightly and not ideal. I had tried powerline kits in the past, but due to our power sockets being close to the floor they just didn’t fit. Luckily these adaptors have the plug right at the bottom of the unit, so they fit, you can see what I mean from the picture. You cant use these on an extension lead, it must be plugged straight into the wall.

Installation was easy, I plugged the first unit into the wall, then plugged It into my router via an ethernet cable, then plugged the 2nd unit in downstairs, you have to wait for the light to turn from red to white to see that it’s working, it was extremely fast and worked within about 1 minute. I checked the connection and it worked and was just as fast as when we ran a very long cable from the router upstairs to our utility room downstairs, so no more messy cables.

Another nice touch is that they don’t take up a plug socket, as you can see in my picture it has an integrated plug socket, so I could plug my lamp back in after installation.

I have been using devolo for many years now (since 200). This is the best one.

Make sure to upgrade the firmware. Use Cat6 cable. The speeds have improved a lot after FW upgrade.
