I did the 3 peaks challenge earlier this year with the goal of filming the entire 24 hours. I bought the battery charging case and 2 additional batteries and was able to film the full 24 hours without issues!
Each battery lasts around 1.5-2 hours, longer if filming lower quality or without stabilisation and the charging case can be charged with a standard usb c so a couple of power banks was enough to last the full 24 hours. The video quality is very good and I wouldnt hesitate buying again.

Brilliant all round camera. Have managed some brilliant underwater videos. Was with someone who had a go pro….that froze 3 times whole we were swimming together…no such problems with the dji. Fantastic!

Totally waterproof without a case! This camera comes with the magnetic bracket that you can attach to most generic camera floats for swimming with. The cottage was good and after I got over my nervousness about using the camera underwater nothing was stopping me.

Only used it a few times, short time on a bike and for a hike, but really love the quality of the recording and battery life, even at 4k HDR etc all in use is respectable and seems better than an equivalent GoPro. Image stabilisation on the bike seems to work well.

The camera came off the bike on a ride and bounced along the road. Picked it up, not a scratch on it, tested the recording and all was working. Good sturdy, quality product.

Fails to connect to phone app. I had to do my own testing for 6 hours before I solved the connection issues. Online advice didn’t help solve the no wifi or Bluetooth connection problems. that connection is needed otherwise the camera can’t be used. DJI give 5 tryouts to register and that’s it. I was going to return the camera and give up on DJI forever. I solved the myself. Ignore all online advice and DJI. Turn off WiFi and Bluetooth. Make sure all wireless and mobile data is turned off. then power on the camera. open DJI app and connect using only the app…. It will override take over your WiFi and Bluetooth and connect to cameras. Once connected enable your phone data and register the camera, after doing this the app and camera will behave and connect correctly you leave you phone WiFi and Bluetooth on and you need to worry as the connection will work every time from now on.

I recently received the DJI Osmo Action 3 camera and I have to say, I am thoroughly impressed with its features and performance. This camera is a great alternative to the GoPro and it’s waterproof, which is perfect for anyone who loves to capture footage while doing water sports or just being near the water.

The 4K HDR resolution is stunning, and it captures the beauty of any landscape or moment with great detail and clarity. I have used it to capture everything from the vibrant colors of a sunset to the intricate details of a flower, and it has always delivered stunning visuals that are sure to impress. The super-wide FOV allows me to capture more of my surroundings, which really adds to the overall experience. Whether I’m hiking through lush green forests, exploring new cities or capturing the beauty of snow-capped mountains, this camera delivers stunning visuals that are sure to impress.

What sets this camera apart from others is the 10-bit color depth, which provides a more realistic color representation. The colors are more vibrant, and the images look more natural. The HorizonSteady feature ensures that my footage is always stable and smooth, even when I’m on the move. I also appreciate that it is cold resistant and long-lasting, making it perfect for any outdoor adventure. This makes it a great investment for anyone who loves to travel and explore new places.

But what I love most about this camera is the versatility it provides beyond just adventure purposes. I’ve used it to capture family moments, weddings, and even product videos for my business. The quick-release vertical mount makes it easy to attach to any tripod or selfie stick, and the dual touchscreens make it easy to see what I’m capturing. The camera is also lightweight, which makes it easy to carry around and use it for extended periods without feeling any strain.

The DJI Osmo Action 3 camera is also very user-friendly, and the app that comes with it is very intuitive. I have been able to edit my footage on my phone and share it on social media within minutes of capturing it. This camera is perfect for anyone who wants to capture high-quality footage without having to spend hours editing it.

Moreover, the camera is durable and can withstand harsh environments. The camera is cold-resistant, making it perfect for winter sports or outdoor activities in cold weather. It is also long-lasting and can function for several hours on a single charge. I have used it for extended periods without worrying about the battery life.

In conclusion, I highly recommend the DJI Osmo Action 3 camera for anyone looking for a high-quality camera that can be used in a variety of settings. It has exceeded my expectations and has become my go-to camera for all my photography and video needs. Whether you’re an adventurer, a photographer, or someone who loves to capture moments, this camera is sure to impress. It’s a great investment that you won’t regret.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFantastic camera. Brilliant camera footage especially on 4K HDR. (it’s set to 4K 30FPS by default) tested it in water a few times and no issues at all. Also battery is amazing. Easily record for about 90 mins on 4K HDR before I need to change it. Can also say it is waterproof despite other reviews saying it isn’t. I included footage shot at 4K HDR…. even in coudy conditions it still films in sharp quality

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersIf you are thinking about this camera you need to know this if you only want to use it in your car to record your journey. I bought this for that reason and although the camera is top notch with great battery life and picture and all the things you can do with it. I found I could not use it in my car as after about 15 mins recording it switched itself off, at first I thought maybe it’s because I had it in 4K so I changed it to 1080 and the same thing happened. I have two other action cameras and not one of those have ever switched off due to a heat issue. I was very disappointed as I loved this camera but sadly had to return it. Update–just to say this overheating only applies to cameras sold in the EU or UK. The November update had a directive from the EU to switch the camera off at a low temperature.

The quality of this camera is exceptional. First the video recording it have a really good quality and thanks to the screens is easy to see what you are recording and what is in focus. The size is really tiny what it helps to record when you are doing any sport, and even you can get other accessories apart from the ones that come in the set. The battery last for hours but even depends on the quality of the video that you record. So overall is a good camera that will last you for a long time and with a good quality results.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI currently have the GoPro Hero 10 and this is way better. The price is very good and the quality of the videos are really good as well. I had bought one for my husband and he says compared to his GoPro this action camera is much better. The battery last up to two hours when recording 1080 and it does not overheat unlike the GoPro which overheats quickly and shuts down. Have not used all the features but know I will and so far I am loving it.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersDJI makes some of my favorite grab-and-go cameras, and I had the opportunity to explore the DJI Osmo Action 3 vs the GoPro Hero11. While each action camera has its own strength, DJI wins hands-down in terms of grab-and-go readiness. The USB-C charging and included multi-battery charging case is easily slid inside a pocket or shoulder sling. The handle is a curiosity, as on the GoPro, they made the handle a battery, tripod, and controller for settings (presumably because whatever you were filming would preclude you from using the touch-screen interface). So while DJI is good for discrete chunks of action, the GoPro is probably better suited to “whatever happens just keep filming”-style ongoing stuff. That being said, DJI’s Osmo offering is pretty darn slick. The different modes produce really good video, even in low-light situations, and the audio is surprisingly good to go with it. Do you get the all-weather versatility of the GoPro? Maybe… and it certainly had no issues working for me in the rain, with crazy wind, being held by kiddos riding skateboards. DJI has this almost magical methodology for capturing smooth video and in terms of capturing amazing video with minimal effort (and minimal attachments), they have the market cornered. Their software and touch-screen interfaces have some wonkiness to them – the connectivity on the DJI app is sometimes odd and the touchscreen is really hard to navigate and select the things you want especially while you’re filming on the go/in the moment. Overall, though, DJI makes some of my favorite action cameras and my DJI Osmo Action 3 has earned its spot next to my DJI Pocket 2 – and if you’re a content creator looking to do walk-and-talks, vlogs, or action shots, you’ve found your match.

At the time of this review this action camera is 309 which without a doubt is an expensive piece of kit. It’s something that you really have to research into before buying. It arrives in a small and simple box ans everything is there ready for use. AFTER downloading their app to your phone. Make sure you read everything properly first as it can be a little tricky setting it up. I have to admit i did watch YouTube first. The menu was easy enough and it didn’t take long after setting up to using it.
Now the issues i came across:
After using it all day with my electric scooter – the battery needs charging near enough every day.
I found the video format wasn’t as good as some others – not awful but not great.
It really really isnt the best in low light, so if you’re using in early morning or evening then don’t expect a great image.
Overall yes its a good piece of kit.. BUT there are improvements needed to get this up to a 5 star product.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSummary:
Feature-laden and high quality. Some unsympathetic features and controls.

The chunky little Osmo 3 Action Camera from DJI is presented in a near-premium fashion, as befits its hefty price. Unpacking from the tactile and beautifully-printed compact box is pleasant and fast, thanks to the care taken in its design.
The camera itself confirms this impression. It is heavy for its small size and impeccably finished in high quality plastic for the most part. The lens is protected by a flat glass filter with a heavily knurled ring that I think can be unscrewed. The mostly-clear instructions are hard to decipher on this point. There is a rubber ring that is to be fitted over the metal one that seems to get a lot of mentions. It seems that the ‘rubber lens protective cover’ will stop the ‘lens protective cover’ heating up. A spare would have been a useful inclusion in the contents list. The lens has a very wide field of view, 155 degrees. This is equivalent to a 12.7mm focal length lens in 35mm format. There is consequently quite a bit of barrel distortion in the images, with verticals near the edges noticeably curved. There is an alternative Standard (dewarp) field of view selectable that gives a straighter image at the cost of losing the extreme edges of the picture. The angle of view for this option is not stated in the downloadable instruction manual.
The camera has two touch-screens, one covering the back of the case, and the smaller square front one beside the lens. There is a stiff power on/off button on one end, and a shooting button on top. Sliding doors cover the battery and SD card compartment and the USB-C charging and data socket. All of these controls are workable, but fiddly and slightly irksome in use. On the base of the camera is a magnetic mounting point with locking latches. This can be used with the sticky pad mount supplied. A cage/protective case has an additional magnetic mount for vertical orientation. The camera is inserted into the cage by releasing a corner latch to open it up sufficiently. Again, not elegant, but it works.

4.0 out of 5 stars A well-made and thought-out camera with specialized uses.

This feels a robust and well made camera, and its in your hand nicely. It has a range of different settings, so is handy for a novice (like me!) to keep with the standard ones, or for the more advantaged user to tweak these to get exactly what they want. The camera has an app, which was easy enough to install. However, there is no SD card included – which was disappointing, considering this camera is not cheap! Once I had purchased, one and formatted it, the camera was ready to use.

The video quality and pictures are pretty good, but I have to ask myself – were they any better than what I could take with my trusted iPhone? To be honest, I couldn’t say they were, so all in all I wasn’t totally impressed with the outputs from this camera. I did think some images taken were quite grainy too. With a bit more care with the development of this product it would be great, but all in all I feel it is a mixed bag and not overwhelmed by it, sadly.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI was so excited for this little device to get to my hands and it has match expectations.
I had in the past another one from different brand so I can compare a bit.
This device is amazing. Basically to start with it comes with:
    -Action camera
-Protective case + 2 protective rubber for lens
-Type C to Type C cable
    -Adhesive stand
    -Documents
Once you turn it on for the first time, just follow instructions, you must install the DJI memo app and update firmware of your device. It will solve the previous problems with focusing. The app is quite nice, very well designed, beautiful interface and easy to interact with. You can connect to your camera and see on your phone what it is in you camera.
Regarding the DJI action camera, I am pretty amazed. It works amazingly well, very smooth, so many settings which can be a bit confusing for a newbie. In exteriors it records with amazing quality m, in interiors a bit less but it can be fixed by a good lighting.
I didn’t have a SD card so I recorded using my iPhone for you to have an idea.
I don’t see the image blur, it focuses really well, no problem, battery lasts longer than 2 hours to me in 1080p.
Also includes a function for livestream which is amazing connecting to your google account and can post it to YouTube.
Seriously this little device is packed with such a nice features that I cannot complain. Obviously quality of video are not at same level than for example the last iPhone but still remarkably good.

I’ve had this DJI Osmo Action 3 a few weeks now and I’m impressed with it – it’s a serious competitor to the GoPro Hero11 Black.

Firstly, it’s crucial you update the Osmo’s firmware on arrival, as it includes critical updates that make you wonder why it left the factory without them! Anyway, I’m not going to knock the rating for that, as once the firmware is updated you have an excellent action camera.

The very wide field of view is superb and class leading for its performance.

In good light, the image quality is excellent. Unfortunately the image quality isn’t so good in low light conditions.

It’s very waterproof – I’m a kayaking and paddleboarder and take this Osmo out confident that it will cope with the waves and odd capsizing! Dive depth is superb, so it will also work well for scuba dives next summer.

As an action camera at sea it works very well.

The touchscreens are handy and work well – the front one is especially useful and easy when vlogging, but this is an action camera at heart, not a vlogging camera. The main screen interface is customisable and this works really well so you can set it up for how you mostly use it.

The magnetic mounting system is brilliant – very easy and and very secure. Shame you don’t get many attachments in the box for different uses for the camera.

Weirdly the lens comes with a rubber ring to protect its aluminium edge, but this ring is loose fitting which means it could get knocked off and lost. I’d expect an integrated bumper really.

Battery life is excellent, and recharging is fast.
Unlike the Osmo Action 2, I’ve not had any heat issues with this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent daylight action camera

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is an excellent action camera except for one glaring issue, and that is, it seems there is a “Back-focus” problem; i’e, distant focus is perfect but objects close to the camera appear soft and not quite in focus, as if the focus was missed. This is quite disturbing, especially when the camera falls foul of the specified minimum focus distance, which is supposed to be 0.3m.

I have installed the latest firmware for this camera 01.01.05.40 and Camera firmware 10.00.06.29 before first use.

However, I have found that unless you are recording yourself or people close to the camera, the close focussing issue is not so obvious and the video and sharpness from this camera is otherwise excellent.

There is a lot to like about this action camera including the fantastic build quality, excellent touch screen on front and back, and the many features for recording, not to mention the many accessories available too. Battery charging is surprisingly quick, and the recording duration is also very impressive.

I would definitely recommend this camera as the one I have might have arrived from a faulty batch. DJI are well aware of the issue of some cameras having a close focusing issue as reported on DJI Osmo 3 forum and YouTube, and appear to be replacing cameras that are not performing as they should. This camera I have is working flawlessly except for the advertised close-focussing distance, and unfortunately, an extra long selfie stick will be required if you want to maintain equivalent front and back focussing if vlogging. Having the camera attached to a person while recording very close distances there will be a noticeable softness in the foreground.

I’m not a person who shoots video, other than occasionally on my iPhone. This seems like it has lots of high level settings you can play with, if you know what they all mean and do, which i don’t.

However, approaching it from a novice perspective, i was able to connect the app, format an SD card i had (none supplied), shoot some video, play with some settings, shoot some more and using an SD adaptor, download to and play videos on my laptop.

My initial impression of the videos were they are a little grainy this improved shooting outdoors in natural light, but i wasn’t blown away by the quality.

Higher level settings like 4k or high frame rates may have improved this, but you need a high speed SD card for that, which i don’t have and can’t afford to buy right now. So i was limited to 1080P, 24fps. Anything higher dropped frames, which the cam told me might happen.

It feels very solid and tough, hard to prove otherwise unless i intentionally try to damage a 300 camera, which i’m not about to do.

The protective cage is a nice touch but is only really going to stop you messing the cam up by giving it extra bump and drop protection on the edges, it doesn’t protect the two touch screens or lens.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThis camera is probably the best value for money action camera you can buy. It’s cheaper than competition, and offers the same features and in my opinion – better quality.

    BUILD AND MATERIALS

Make no mistake – this is a tough and premium product. It’s waterproof out of the box without any additional cases, it’s shock and drop proof and the materials used for the housing and the screen are of absolutely excellent quality.

    SCREENS

This camera offers two screens, so you can monitor what you’re recording regardless of how it’s mounted. It’s a clever little feature, which is super useful for vlogging especially. The screen is bright and easy to see even on a sunny day and the resolution is very good. It’s also very responsive to the touch – EVEN WHEN WET!!!

    BATTERY LIFE AND CHARGING

The battery life is just mind blowing. I was able to get almost 3 hours on a single charge, recording in 4k. This is probably the best battery life I’ve seen in an actionb camera so far. It also charges very quickly (with the right charging brick) – I was able to top it up to about 70% in just 15 minutes. A full charge is about an hour.

    SETUP AND EASE OF USE

Very easy to setup, paired instantly with my iPhone. The operation of the camera is very intuitive and you will probably work it out on your own without even looking in the manual.

    FOOTAGE QUALITY

I shot in 4k 60 fps and in 2.7k in 120 fps – the video quality is excellent, the camera handles light very well and adjusts exposure quickly and accurately.

    STABILISATION

The camera offers several modes of stabilisation, and they all work flawlessly. I used to stabilise my videos in an external software, but the footage out of this camera is amazing – no need for extra stabilisation in the post. Mind you though, that using stabilisation will slightly decrease the video resolution, down to 2.7k but given how well it works I’m okay with that.

    EXTRAS

As if the price to quality ration wasn’t good enough already, in addition you get a free suction cup mount with this camera which is fantastic, becuase that would be probably the first accessory you’d want to buy anyway 🙂 This is really a value added proposition and honestly, it’s super cool for DJI to include this in the bundle for free.

    SUMMARY

This is the best action camera for the price. Period. Buy it. You will love it!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBeing able to save up to 5 custom modes is brilliant, so by spending a bit of time preparing the settings saves me time when moving from different environments/activities, with the quick switch button making navigating the camera even more time efficient.

The magnetic mount clips into place, I can feel the pull of the magnets when placing the mount close to the camera. This has held firm, the camera has remained attached and with the addition of the case, feels strong and protected.

My cameras images are sharp, focusing has not been an issue and I’m happy with the clarity of the images.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick switch button and setting custom modes saves so much time

The DJI Action 3 camera is very well built and will put up with a lot of punishment, which is what you need in an action camera.

There are two buttons, one to switch on and off and change mode, and the other to start and stop recording or to take a picture. One good feature is the start/stop button on the top can also switch the camera on if it is off. This takes about a second from off to switch the camera on and start recording which is really fast.

It has two screens, one large one on the rear and a smaller one on the front next to the lens so you can preview the image even if filming yourself.

It comes with one battery which is recharged in the camera with a supplied USB-C cable. Also in the box is a cage that fits around the camera for extra protection, a spare rubber ring to go around the lens, an adhesive mount and a magnetic mount that attaches to the base of the camera or the side of the cage. This magnetic mount makes fixing and removing the camera from a mount very quick and easy. It has two latches to make sure the camera is securely fixed and you just have to squeeze these from either side to release the camera.

The battery last for quite a long time. I timed it while filming in 4K and it lasted 120 minutes. In 2.7K it lasted 134 minutes.

The menu system is very easy to navigate and the most important settings can be accessed direct from the screen without going through a series of menus which makes changing them very quick and easy. There is also an app you can download to your phone, DJI Mimo, which lets you preview what the camera is seeing and change settings on the camera via the app.

Sound is good. It picks up sound very clearly with very little wind noise. Even when cycling in a wind of downhill, you hardly notice the noise of the wind.

The outstanding feature on this camera is the image stabilisation. It is amazing. There are three settings. The standard setting produces excellent results but the other two settings are so much better. They both maintain a level horizon the only different between the two being that one does it up to a 45 degree tilt and then snaps to vertical and the other maintains the level horizon no matter how much you tilt the camera, even upside down!

The only thing that lets the camera down from being perfect is the image quality. Whilst it is really good it is not perfect. The lens appears to be slightly out of focus which is quite noticeable when up close. The stated minimum focus distance is 30cm but at that distance the image appears quite soft. Further distances are much better and when using it like I do, whilst cycling, it is not noticeable in the footage. It also struggles a bit with dynamic range and whilst the results are acceptable they are not great, and low light footage tends to be a bit grainy.

Whether you will like it or not really comes down to what you expect from an action camera. For my purposes, cycling, it does a great job and produces stunning images that are bright and clear with great colour.

Right out of the box I’m very impressed with this action camera. Waterproof without needing additional housing down to 16m(however you can get a specific dive housing). The magnetic quick release mount can be fitted directly to the camera horizontally or vertically, and it’s really secure. The camera comes with a skeleton housing for extra bump protection which was initially a little tricky to fit, but I soon realised it would only fit on one way round! And from there it wasn’t a problem. Needless to say I’ll probably just keep the skeleton housing on permanently(although would have to remove it to access the battery and memory card compartment if needed). The camera also come with 2 rubber lens protectors and the lens protector can be removed and replaced if needed(which I think is a great feature that my old GoPro3+ didn’t have). The video quality and adjustable settings offer loads to play around with, but the photograph function doesn’t allow to change the resolution as far as I’ve seen so far. That being said despite not being able to change the photo resolution you can change loads of other settings via manual options or just leave it on auto settings. The Hyperlapse function and slowmo have been quite cool to play with, and watching a hyperlapse video of my kids playing and drawing is pretty awesome. I have noticed that in low light indoors on auto settings the photos can be a bit noisy/fuzzy, and possibly a little out of focus, but it might just be that I need more practise with the camera. The duel touch screens are awesome, but that’ll just take a while to get used to. It does seem that you have to download the accompanying app to activate the camera after switching on for the first time. The app reminds me a lot of the GoPro app that I have for my old camera, and once you’ve paired the camera to your app via wifi, the cameras menu system seems to be laid out in a similar way to the onscreen menus. Instead of all the menus being in one place they’re accessed via different sides of the screen which has confused me briefly a few times. The camera feels very well made and robust, and the doors for the charge slot and battery compartment have a unique button and slide lock with a built in seal. The magnetic clip mount is also compatible with GoPro/similar mounts so thankful that I can use my old kit with it. Battery life seems pretty good so far but I guess that depends on what settings your using as that will probably increase power consumption, but recharging seems pretty fast if you use a high power plug. Yet more testing and playing around to be done.

I have an online cricket channel where we show highlights of our league matches which were currently shot from outside the ground boundary. I was looking for an action camera for some time specifically to shoot my cricket matches by attaching the camera to my helmet. This camera is great for that and especially impressed by the magnetic locking system which holds the camera strongly and allows me to attach the camera to my helmet. Also, the protective cage is good for protection and allows one to hold the camera vertical for youtube shorts. In addition, the 360-degree tilt feature is awesome for action videos and to keep them stable.

The camera comes with multiple mics for capturing good-quality sound in addition the camera also allows DJI wireless mic connectivity. Another feature worth mentioning is that the front and back screen which are bright enough to be visible under the sun, especially during my daytime shooting at the cricket ground.

The video quality is great and it supports up to 4k. The DJI mobile app is good and allows effortless wireless video transfer from the camera to my mobile. In addition, the app allows video editing and comes with preinstalled templates for short video graphics.

I’m really impressed by the fast charging option as it does fast charging that it is 80% in 18 minutes.

Overall this is a great action camera and I’m pleased to have it and look forward to my next cricket season for some action.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve only ever used GoPros versions of action cams over the years but was more than happy to swap over to DJI, especially given we’ve got other DJI products (drone) and have never been let down by them. Price wise, this action cam is comparable to all the big named ones, perhaps a little more reasonable at 309, and after giving this some use, I’d say definitely worth it.

I won’t give you a run down of all the features as clearly DJI are better able to do that but some of my favourite things include:
    – The dual, front and back, touchscreens ensure this is super simply to use, however you want to use it, with clear playback so you can be sure you caught the footage you wanted.
    – Mounting is quick, easy and super secure; perfect for every use or for those more active (we’ve tried with biking but will definitely be taking skiing next time too!)
    – The footage captured, both photos and videos, to me is smooth, clear and good quality for what it is – action footage – the super wide view especially good to ensure you don’t miss a thing.
    – Great battery life, surprisingly good actually, and super quick to charge.
    – I will say I really like the app compared to others too!

Overall I like this A LOT, and as I said, it’s not the first action cam I’ve used, but I’ve absolutely had my head turned to DJI now, and not just for drones. Great quality, price and use – I’d recommend this happily.

great and qualitative alternative to GoPro.

this standard action camera appears to be priced wisely and competitively and offers amazing features.
It is made from relatively high-quality materials that feel like it was built to last and endure extreme conditions.
I used it on a mountain bike a few times already and the stabilization was decent and the quality of the videos was crips. I don’t think i need to mention this explicitly that it is very easy to use, easy to mount and detach. It is a very intuitive action camera that comes with essential accessories for longer use.
I am an adventurous person myself but never owned an action camera in my life until now. I missed so many great and extreme moments from the past.
I now have 1000 and 1 reason to plan my holidays with an emphasis on this camera.
I think this camera is sufficient enough to extract most of your great emotions and moments from using it.

To reiterate, is the price justified?
    I think so.
Is this action camera worth your adventures?
    I think so too.
Is this camera a step-down or up when compared with the likes of GoPro?
I think it is definitely a step up in the right direction.

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing 4k action camera for adventurous people

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersMixed feelings on this, although there is a great deal to like. Straight out of the box, this has a quality feel to it, it is well-made and, barring major accidents, it feels as though it will last. The magnetic mount is excellent and probably the best I’ve seen by far. The battery is surprisingly quick to charge and lasts incredibly well, which is a real bonus. The user-interface is simple and intuitive, and the stabilisation elements are exceptionally good. The speed that it starts to record is again, up there with the best I’ve seen. It is also usable with the accessories from other brands that you may already have and I’m a big fan of that.

For me, there’s a couple of things that let it down. The first is the picture quality; it is good, but no where near as crisp or as sharp as I was expecting, although I’ll admit that I am expecting a lot. Secondly, it struggles with anything below bright light and we’re not even talking low light, so I would expect a better performance there. I’m hoping that a firmware update will sort the issues out, but time will tell.

At the time of writing this review, the cost is 309.00, which isn’t bad for the money, but it could be so much better.

DJI do it once again. After a few ‘interesting’ design choices with the Action 2, DJI have returned to the more conventional form factor – bringing the best features from the 1 and 2, into a package that’s hard to beat.

The new wide angle lens is superb for capturing everything you need in a scene and makes this so very usable. The battery life is very, very impressive – as is the overheat protection and extreme cold performance.

The waterproofing to 16m without any kind of case is superb – especially for casual use. (for deeper use, there are still cases) The magnetic mounting system has been greatly improved from the 2 – Once this is mounted, it’s not going anywhere until you want to move it. The vertical mount case is also flawless.

The output is also incredible. The ‘gimbal like’ RockSteady mode is brilliant, seriously rivalling stand-alone gimbal solutions. The ‘HorizonBalancing’ and ‘HorizonSteady’ modes are straight out incredible. (HorizonBalancing mode will keep the horizon flat up until the camera goes over 45degrees, whereas the HorizonSteady mode will make whatever you shoot have a horizontal horizon, no matter how far the camera is tilted – at the expense of a little resolution.. But both feel like magic IMHO)

The software is also rock-solid. Being able to control the camera from your smartphone is brilliant – You can tell the DJI have spent a lot of time refining this and it shows.

The fact that you can quick-charge this up to 80% in 18 minutes is a game-changer in my opinion.. Gone are those feelings of sadness, when you realise that you really want to film something, but you forgot to charge a battery.. The USB C connector also is really useful to use things such as Lavalier mics, etc. which work a treat too.

For me though, the most impressive upgrade are the screens – which are so very impressive and useful. Both front and back screens are touchscreen and calibrated for use even with wet hands. They’re bright, clear and very, very large. Being able to easily make sure you’re in-frame when using in ‘selfie mode’ is amazing – and that you can also use either to change literally anything on the camera is a complete revelation.

I can, without doubt say that I’m absolutely in love with this upgrade to an already great action camera. For the money, I don’t think this thing can be beaten. Highly, highly recommended!!!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersTHIS IS AN UPDATED REVIEW

Although I did not buy this camera from Amazon I have been using it for a few weeks so feel qualified to write a review. I own a lot of DJI products – I believe I’m what’s called a DJI ‘fanboy’

When I received my camera, it was clear that there was a problem with video and photo quality. Output was not sharp enough and too smooth. (Some owners had also reported a separate focus issue, but fortunately this was not the case with the camera I received, although I do believe the minimum focal distance is not as advertised. My own tests show it is around 40 cm rather than 30 cm. Vloggers take note please.)

To be fair to DJI, they worked hard to come up with a fix and the latest firmware has made both video and photos much sharper with a lot less smoothness so I am now a lot happier with this camera (hence the upgraded 4* review). I was already very content with the main features of this action camera, namely: the user interface is fantastic, battery life is great, stabilisation work’s brilliantly (in good light conditions), and the magnetic mount is genius.

So I would now recommend this camera. However, please note that some owners are still reporting significant focus issues which may be as a result of poor lens calibration for certain batches of cameras that were shipped.
