I use this camera with the media mod for making voice recordings on a motorcycle helmet, while riding on and off-road. The stabilisation is superb, & the image quality is great.

On quick inspection it was very pleasing so I think does just the job

My last GoPro was a Hero 3 which to be honest got used a few times then sat in a drawer. This was because I found it a chore to keep putting in the case and just found using it cumbersome.
I wanted a camera for family bike rides and paddle boarding and GoPro 8 was the only one that fitted my budget with a decent spec.

Used on bike and video image stabilisation it good and works well and on a few paddle boarding trips. What I also like about the new GoPros is the built in mounting brackets, it’s waterproof as a bare unit and that you do not need an additional case for it. Very please with the picture and video quality.

This camera does not sit in the drawer and is so easy to use although like Alexa the voice commands are sometimes ignored!

The go pro series have great heritage and you’re guaranteed great picture quality and versatility of use in your adventure, however.

Battery life is abysmal, 40mins is the best you’ll get. Other brands have caught up and offer as good features and better battery life for far less so unless you have to have it, read reviews and shop around!

I’ve previously had a Crosstour budget action cam (and a very old GoPro many years ago). The difference in image quality and stabilisation between the budget Crosstour and the GP8 is light and day. In fairness the Crosstour only cost around 20% of the GP8 but there really is no comparison.
I use the GP8 mainly for mountain bike trails recording. Not just gravelly fire roads but proper dropoffs and rooty rough trails. I shoot in 4K 30 fps using Superview. Superview is perfect and really takes you into the trails and gives a great feel to the trails. The stabilisation takes away all the jittery effects whilst not ironing out the proper feel and flow.
I’ve only got the single battery that it came with and that has been sufficient so far. However, I recognise I will need to purchase additional batteries and these do seem pretty expensive. I do have a range of attachments and accessories that came with the Crosstour and they work well with the GP8.
Bottom line, I’m very impressed and think the GP8 hits the sweet spot in terms of price versus performance.

Purchased in used section for 240.00, box came which was open, however the rest was untouched as if it were brand new. All accessories were present and worked perfectly and made a great saving

The hero 8 black is a big improvement over my previous hero 7 white for reliability but I could get over 2 hours use from the 7, compared to 100 minutes from the 8.

I’ve had a few issues, which have required me to remove the battery. But these little niggles seem to be common for GoPro and only take the simple removal of the battery to correct.

Buy at the right time, when Amazon is cheaper than buying direct from GoPro and you will forgive the imperfections.

4 out of 5 stars as the battery life could be better and the minor niggles.

Recording 4k60fps drains the battery by about 2% per second, for some reason. Recording at 4k30 results in a lot better battery life. The stabilisation is awesome and gives for a pleasant viewing experience.

The only thing that let me down is the water proof ability. It says it can go under 10m, but i did not even went down inches and the Hero 8 stopped working.

The camera itself is great, and it works perfectly well without the app. My only complaint is that the plastic clip attaching the camera to the mount snapped on its third use. I can only guess the clip I received was defective, or the plastic used for the clip is extremely fragile.

Many years ago I had the Hero 3 which was good but the Hero 8 Black is amazing!
great for filming, I use Linear at 1080p most of the time.
Photos with it are pretty good
    Time lapse is fantastic
Night lapse for star movement is incredible!
stabilization is out of this word amazing!
A FEW WORDS OF WARNING: if you film in 4k or 200 frames per second it uses HEVC compression and a lot of video editing software cannot cope with this, make sure your software can edit HEVC.
You can download some gopro editing software but it’s RUBBISH! so make sure you have some decent video editing software

I can’t see why people say the GoPro 8 isn’t waterproof I take mine on water sporting events all the time it has been in the water countless amounts of times and still works perfectly, no misting or faults. As for the GoPro app it is really helpful for when I have the GoPro mounted at the end of my kayak to use my phone to do recordings and change settings.

I had a reasonable expection of the performance of this camera but it has far exceeded it. The image quality is excellent and I’m oreally impressed with the clarity of the microphones. Would happily purchase again!

Battery runs out very fast in m y opinion that the cons that i have with this camera apart from that i like it compare to the Gopro Max ( the image quality on Hero 8 looks better and has more features though i will miss the mics and the 360 degrees videos on Max)The delivery was fast. I am impressed, over all im impressed with the services. thank you 🙂

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHypersmooth is amazing, but it still suffers from overheating and poor battery life
Great if you are doing an active sport outdoors
Useless if you use it locked off indoors, it will overheat and stop in around 20 mins if you are on any of the high res/high frame rate modes

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersBought this as an upgrade from the Hero Black 5, did many hours of research into this and the DJI Osmo Action camera (as the osmo was a fair bit cheaper at the time). Finally pulled the trigger and got this when the price dropped a little while ago. Have to say I love the image stabilisation on the Black 8 – a big upgrade over my Hero 5, it makes a big difference and the image quality is slightly improved. The sound quality is OK but not amazing but this can be improved by adding the media mod (for another 79.99 if you need it for vlogging etc). The battery life is middle of the road, improves when you switch off all the WiFi and Bluetooth bells and whistles… Not too sure about the plastic flip out mount yet… all in all a good camera and a definite upgrade over my old hero 5, however if you need a good camera for travelling etc you should also check out the DJI Osmo Action.. why… its cheaper, has an added front facing camera, has “rocksteady” stabilisation which is pretty much on par with the gopro Hypersmooth. To sum up: both great cameras it just depends where your alligences lie!!

The stability and performance of this camera is amazing. It is better than the previous generation hero black 7 and Osmo action. It can shoot very stable video even running. But its heating problem seems doesn’t be solved. Just like the previous generation, it getting hot and crash easily when I using. This crash (see the video) is the second time this week. This problem is very bothering to me because it leads to the loss of my video and wastes my time to recording again. If your work is unrepeatable, I suggest you better consider this issue before purchasing. Except for this problem, it is the best action camera with a good price at present. Very suitable for travel or sports recording.

Not keen on the fixed lens, unlike the gopro 7,which could be replaced easily.Apart from that,it hasn’t crashed yet, unlike the 7,which was great, but crashed a lot (it never lost a file though). The 8 software seems a little more precise and quick. The bitrate can be adjusted to a higher level without using protune.
Never update the firmware via the app/wifi, it will look successful, but the horizon levelling won’t work properly.Put the memory card into a pc,and load it.The horizon level is great, makes it virtually like a gimbal. So far so good.Update-strange pulsing in and out on some shots, sometimes the app horizon levelling doesn’t work,or makes it worse

Had a Go pro hero 3 and still working fine so naturally upgraded to latest model Hero 8. Love it and I hope this will last like my old Hero 3. Lovey it’s latest mods and cons I think it’s a terrific bit of kit.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersGreat image stabilisation and super quality footage. Saying that Its a Gopro so wouldn’t expect anything else.

Bad bits the battery life is about an hour and 15 mins using activity 2.7 | 60 | S and these batteries are fiddly to remove. Though there are replacement back up batteries available so this is a must. Transferring your footage is very time consuming using wireless mode. I mainly use an Ipad so card transfer not applicable. I find editing using the Gopro App is also mind numbingly clunky. Ok Quik the App is a handy one minute creator but for longer videos not really what I want. There used to be a much better App seemingly called Gopro studio which on research was better. They dropped it in favour of the new Gopro App!

The lens looks like it might scratch but is non replaceable. Seemingly its gorilla glass or similar break/scratch resistant material however my Iphone said this and its a mess. So not confident this will last. !!!

The Go Pro cloud is a joke. The app keeps asking me to resubscribe for my free trial which it recognises as reducing ( now finished and I have not used it once. And if I try to re subscribe but wont let me go any further. Gopro support are non responsive!

Basically I do like the camera but would I buy if I knew this? Probably not.

Get your act together GoPro folks will stray if this is your future plan.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI’ve owned 4 GoPros over the years, from the Hero 5, 6 and the 7. This latest iteration, Hero 8 Black is simply the best among them all ( until the next edition in the future at least). Battery life, ease.of use and video qualities are superb. Can’t wait to take this baby for a spin.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best GoPro so far.

I do a lot of POV, wide angled videos and all the stuff with the GoPro and this model in particular is the best one for all your activities. I do sports and suits me perfectly to record everything, it has multiple options and profiles soo you can change depending on your rec style.

The battery is not a big thing, but enough to record a lot of stuff using the highest quality profiles, it is very intuitive and as a GoPro very portable.

I’m very happy to get this on my birthday, nothing to complain, if you are thinking to buy one, just go for it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOverall very good camera. Please research prior to purchase as there is some software issue and camera does not work with some of the pcs, dies not connect snd you need card reader to transfer your files! GoPro is aware but does nothing about it.

I have been wanting this camera for a while already and couldn’t decide should I buy it or no. On first day when I saw how easy it is to use the camera and how good the picture quality was it was just amazing. Worth every penny.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersSometimes products have the specs but in use the are hard to live with or buggy. This isn’t that! You can really tell it’s a very mature product with all the bugs ironed out, both in camera and app.
Firstly, I got this not the Osmo action because this has H265 and the Osmo doesn’t and it is a serious thing for IQ
Now, first action cam but about my hundredth camera.
So..slickness is just wow – want to take a photo underwater ? Set a three second timer with the shortcut. Get near the surface and shout “GoPro take a photo ” Then in you go
Want to turn it on when you’re about to start your run on your bike? Just call” GoPro start recording. ”
Worried about your data? It automatically uploads to the GoPro cloud when you charge it. This will save everything at full quality forever, however many GB that is, for 5 pm, plus you’re insured against accidental breakage too.
Video is very sharp. It will shoot RAW. It’s fast and responsive and tough , of course.
The stabilisation is completely incredible. I strapped mine to my dog and the footage was perfect….
Audio really not bad at all. I have proper mics etc etc but the surround effect you get with this is really impressive. If you’re by a a stream you can hear the voices fine but also know they’re by running water.
The app is flawless. Control the camera and set framing? No problemo ( which by the way means you didn’t need the Osmo action’s front facing screen anyway) Update all settings? Check footage? Editing? Yep all in the app
The only thing that hasn’t been very very impressive with this setup is the battery life. I have three batteries and I need them to go out for a two hour adventure with the children and the dog. If you had a heavy day of filming planned you really might need half a dozen batteries ready. They’re cheap enough but it is the first accessory you need to buy. Speaking of accessories there are tonnes of really great accessories for the GoPro available. I bought a cheap 15 kit that had a chest strap, a head strap and a tripod mount and they’re all great.
I’m delighted with this camera. The footage is great. There’s lots of shooting options both for photo and video. The ecosystem is very mature and squared away.
A great purchase and I’m so taken by the usefulness of action cameras I’ll likely pick up another for shooting another angle.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWorthwhile upgrade from a Hero 5 but not without some shortcomings.
Video quality is excellent and stabilisation remarkable, delivering buttery smooth images while hurtling down the side of a mountain. The integrated folding mounting ears are a great improvement over the cases and frames required with older models
Less good is the non-replaceable lens cover and the silly battery door which frequently detaches itself whilst attempting to plug in the cable. The latter is, I understand, to allow a ‘mod’ device to be attached although this removes the waterproof rating of the camera rendering it somewhat pointless for my purposes.
If you own a Hero 7 (or perhaps 6) maybe wait a year and see what the 9 brings.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGopro 8 purchased for the new Time Warp capabilities and I wasn’t disappointed at all. I can now record walks that are incredibly smooth and stable at x15 speed in camera (on a chest harness) and they are superb straight out of the can.
4k great colour new fitting system does away with the cage which is a bonus, I’m very happy with it.

I knew this gopro was good but after using it for myself and actually seeing all the features and everything for myself I was blown away even more.

The image stability is out of this world and I found it easy to connect to my phone and see what the angel is for riding my bike.

I know it’s easier to connect to iPhones but I use a android and it still didn’t take too long to set up and doesn’t take too long to connect everytime.

I only bought 1 for now but will 100% definitely get more for more angles and better footage.
