Must have if you’re a regular GoPro user. Improves both video and picture quality, and depth of field. However, video is capped at 2.7k but does have horizon lock. Picture mode will only take single pics, so no time lapse or burst. Also, you won’t be able to use the lens mod with a water housing. Definitely worth having, and the media mod and light mod is a must to compliment the video and pic mode.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI purchased a GoPro for when walking and taking transit. I’ve had too many close calls to not have a camera with me at all times. This lens is perfect for that task! The FOV is worth the price alone. The bonus is the extra image stabilization it provides. The lens went on as easy as my DSLR cameras. So whatever issue there was with the lens not attaching properly, it seems to have been fixed now.

A glaring ‘con’ though is it’s limited resolution, With the lens attached, you can shoot max 2.7k 60fps. Good news is that it can easily be upscaled to 4k. The image quality is what you would come to expect from GoPro.

A great addition for my Hero 9!

It is a bit hard to install on the GoPro 10 but it is nice quality. I wish they made a filter/protector case for it.

Lens works good on the hero 10. The only negative is that the fit is tight. Makes a metal on metal grinding noise when tightening it.

Expensive, makes for some very interesting video angles though and great quality glass.

Note – once the Max Lens mode is enabled – maximal resolution would be 2.7@60 fps.
The filter looks pretty solid seats firmly and looks nice.
The view angle is very narrow, but if you are using came mount and can level the camera, think twice before buying.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAdquir recientemente una GoPro 10 y tena mis dudas en si era o no indispensable este MOD para la cmara, hoy en da puedo decirles que si bien la estabilidad de la GoPro 10 es estupenda, con este MOD es excelente, la estabilidad aun es mucho mejor, de lujo, la verdad, practico ciclismo de montaa y los senderos suelen ser muy difciles, muy inestables y es ah donde se requiere una super estabilidad a la hora de grabar, es un accesorio caro, pero creo que vale la pena la inversin, si eres una persona como yo, a la que le gusta que sus videos queden bien estabilizados.

Ok I admit that I bought this direct from the GoPro site but it’s the same company as on Amazon and the same price and I must say it does exactly what it says it does. It comes in a very nice protective case and a super soft cloth to clean it it fits perfectly and is very easy and smooth removing it and fitting it on I have to say I’m very impressed with the quality and would definitely recommend it for your GoPro 10

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersMany reviews of improper fitting , can’t take it off , can’t putting on , is absurd. Do research and will be so easy-to-use, easy to set up, easy to take it out, everyone is ” special ” when nannies can’t do if for them.
Just slightly pull out the standard lens and Twist, that’s all. (Same when you transfer the new one.)
Astonishing results, awesome and open view.
Do your homework and forget about the rest.

Its a good accessory for go pro. But note one thing it does not give 360 degree view because thats a different camera go pro max 360 or insta 360.
You will get one more level of stability and some more degrees of wide angle.

    Overall good

So I just ordered this yesterday. I know there’s a huge Amazon facility in Utah so that’s probably how it got delivered so fast. I was easily able to remove the lens on my hero 10 and swap this lens onto it (tool free). Not sure if they’ve changed something with tolerances. I’m giving 4 stars for now until I actually utilize the lens for it’s intended purpose. Right off the get go, the first video had some strange shaky distortion even being set to max lens mode. It did keep the video horizontal though no matter how far I tilted the camera.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersLente excelente, imagem e estabilizao maravilhosas.

This lens on my Hero 10 is amazing. With apparent sorcery, when installed and selected, allows the camera to be rotated, even completely upside down, while keeping the video horizon upright and level. Magic. Absolutely worth the price.

Golden Review Award: 124 From Our UsersThis GoPro camera modification makes all the difference in capturing my motorcycle riding. I mount the camera on my handlebars and you can pretty much see it all! Still learning about my new GoPro but definitely love this addition! It doesn’t mess with the vibration dampening. Also I learned how to get it on and off from YouTube.
    Definitely would buy again!

The Max lens mod is a great addition to the Hero 9 or 10. As well as adding new modes, it takes horizon levelling to, er, the next level – allowing you to completely spin the camera 360 degrees and still have the video stay level. Amazing! Not cheap, but well made and has a protective case included too.

I see people all over fighting the install of the mod lens. Look it up on youtube. I put dry PTFE spray on a paper towel and rubbes it o. The bottom of the ears on the camera. The lens went on with no tools or agervation. Picture looks great.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersIt’s great way to have stability and get horizon lock but after installing only timewrap option is available.you cannot get timelapse after installing this lense although this works great with live videos.

    Superview pics are also great.

Funny part is I brought this to get timelapse thinking that I will get near 360 degree view of sky but timelapse option itself is not available after installing this.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersAmazing, usually the more stabilisation you want the tighter the crop on the image you gave to live with, not with the max lens mod you can have super wide and stable, easy to fit and the results are amazing, hands down the best GoPro accessory I’ve purchased yet, using orientation and horizon lock is incredible, once I’ve hit record I can move the camera even upside down and the video stays the same, absolutely brilliant.

Rock solid stabilisation with wide field of view

I have used this on a few bicycle rides. Works fantastically well with horizontal leveling.
A couple concessions would be max 2.7k resolution and no timelapse mode just hyperlapse mode.
If you’re unlucky like me mounting is an absolute pain literally. The final 5-10 degrees of rotating really needs to be pried on with a towel or something simila

The shots look very stable like you were using a professional gimbal, the horizon level is perfect and the way u started shooting is the way that will be locked in the up side at the up right position (vertical as Instagram Stories 9:16 or horizontal as 16:9).
The only inconvenient is that the mod desables all the others videos possibilities but 2.7K 60fps (video).
The same happens to photos (only a few possibilities of config are left).
However, you can always take out the mod and use the original one for all your other needs.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersNot easy to put on and off the camera, yet the lens and its features are very good.

Usually, I do not review this early in ownership.

Yet, this is something to mention now.

For me, both the default lens cover (on my GoPro Hero 9) and this Max lens are both extremely hard to get off and on with first few usages.

It was to the point I had to use a cloth (to protect the lenses) and an adjustable slip joint channel lock piers to get both lenses on and off.

A tip is to use the Max lens case to hold the Max lens as much as possible when taking the Max lens on and off.

After a few of uses of taking on and off, both lenses were a little bit easier to take on and off. Yet, still very hard to take both lenses off and on.

Hopefully within time of taking both lenses off and on will make it easier to take on and off in the future.

I believe this is due to the lens mount on the camera (GoPro Hero 9) itself and not the mount on the lenses. Which would explain why some do not have this problem, while others do have this problem.

If this does not work for you in time, then the Max lens has its Lifetime warranty, and the GoPro Hero 9 has one year warranty.

Also, with the yearly subscription with GoPro online services they will also give you complete replacements of your camera as well (two replacements per year I believe).

I will try to work it out to loosen it a bit. To see if that works.

Otherwise, the Max lens for the GoPro Hero 9 is well worth i

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI’m assuming most people read or watched reviews online and YouTube about this Max Lens Mod and first off, I’m no adventurous traveler or extreme sports kind of person so unless you prefer only to shoot in 4K or 5K on the Hero 9, then don’t even bother since the Max resolution with this lens is 2.7K. Personally, it’s more than enough for me and the reason why I bought this was the Horizon Lock. If you don’t know what it is, then definitely look it up. It’s truly amazing having that and basically, all my videos are literally stabilized with no turns whatsoever on my frames. I would recommend it just for that 1 option alone.

Lastly, I was unfortunate to be one of the people who had a lot of trouble installing the lens since it gets stuck at like 95% attaching it full on. Some people used wrenches to twist it all the way but I found out that if you untwist it and twist it again a few times, it eventually gets on with ease (at least for me it did). I think the metal bracket wears a little and levels with the clamp on the Hero 9.

Golden Review Award: 38 From Our UsersFirst off the reviews who said they have issues installing the lens should have watched any of the several YouTube videos’ in how to remove the original lens and install this lens. It’s actually pretty simple if you know what you’re doing. It took me less than 15 seconds with no tools at all. It is tight so that it keeps the camera water resistant. So if the negative reviews for installation have you worried, search YouTube for installing the lens and you will see it’s a piece of cake. As far as using the lens for your videos is a personal choice and what you are filming so I won’t comment on that other than it works for me.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersNo 4K because it needs to crop out the black borders when using the lens mod. It’s a bit hard to use because quirks weren’t explained in the manual. To remove the original, protective lens, you need to pull it outward a bit before turning it. To install the Max Lens Mod (MLM), you have to use force – so much force that you’ll think you’ll break the GoPro itself – to set the lens square to the GoPro body. Use a vise with rubber jaws if you have to.

After switching between the protective lens and the MLM multiple times, it will become smoother and easiler.

Golden Review Award: 32 From Our UsersI own two GoPro HERO9’s and this is my third purchase of the Max Lens mod. One of the lens I have been using got a light scratch and I didn’t know how to buff out.

For all of the 1st installations, I had to use a wrench to tighten it. It was really hard to do by hand. But after taking it off, I was able to put it on by hand. It’s probably very tight to meet the water resistant rating.

It works well and I love how smooth the footage is. I also like the additional FOV that is has over the stock lens.

I am knocking down a star, because once the lens gets scratched, you have two options… Try to buff it out or buy another. I wish there was a lens protector that doesn’t compromise clarity!

Tough to put on the 1st time. Works well, but scratches easily and no lens protector options.

The GoPro Lens Mod works great! I use it on my motorcycle. Gave it 4 stars because it was so hard to get the lens off. I had to use pliers to twist the lens off. The Lens Mod went on without any problem. Can’t understand why other reviews say about the lens being crooked when they put in on the GoPro9 Black.

Golden Review Award: 42 From Our UsersPROS:
    – great wide view with very minimal fisheye effect
    – enables you to film in hypersmooth boost mode with horizon lock on (can spin camera in full 360 and always maintains flat & stable horizon – extremely stable footy in worst conditions imaginable)
    – still waterproof
    – great quality

    CONS:
    – very hard to put on/remove the first time or two – get a friend with strong hands to put it on if you struggle *DON’T USE TOOLS!
    – cannot film in 4K/5K – limited to 2.7K max (I get around this by shooting in 2.7K with 16:9 aspect ratio, then I upscale the footage to 4K with a 16:9 ratio – this allows you to upload to YouTube in 4K and is super easy to do with any film software – I post videos on Instagram in 16:9 as well so my videos aren’t cropped)
    – no ND filtering capabilities – I wish they sold two versions of the same mod so that I could have one with ND filtering to provide a cinematic distortion effect to the outer portions of the road/trail when I’m riding my motorcycle/dirt bike.
    – expensive, but worth it for shooting in bumpy/fast conditions

No regrets on the purchase. Even doubled down to get a second one for my other Hero 9 that I shoot with while riding.
