Good easy to operate machine, pulls moss & thatch out with ease. Only one annoying thing is that both aerator & scarify bar develop a rattle after 20 minutes of use, this is the only thing that lets it down as everything is a good build quality

Everything is good about this machine but the grass collector is a pain to get on and off

I have been looking to buy a scarifier for a while and certainly made the right choice with this one. Have a large lawn covered in moss weeds and mole hills. This beast cut through it to leave the grass to breathe ready for the summer!

After a few dry summers and damp winters my lawn was mostly moss so, to try and get some grass back, I bought this. The lawn’s too big to effectively rake and the electric scarifiers are not up to the job. This with the aerator fitting did a great job in removing moss and thatch but be aware that it does fill the collection box very quickly. In reality you end up removing the box and doing a fair bit of raking after! Still far less time consuming and more effective than other options and I now have an overseeded lawn which hopefully grows faster than pigeons eat grass seed! If you have a reasonable sized lawn than needs a lot of rejuvenation then recommended.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have three lawns extending to around 1,000 square metres and they were all in a poor state after last year’s hot, dry summer, with bare patches and a build-up of moss. In previous years, I’d hired in a scarifier when necessary, but decided that it was time I bought one. I looked long and hard at the Hyundai 212cc Petrol Scarifier/Aerator, comparing it with the Hyundai 1800w Electric Lawn Scarifier/Aerator/Lawn Rake. The price difference was significant (368 v 159 on Amazon), so decided to order the cheaper electric model since I also own a portable Honda generator and planned to run it using this. However, I was then contacted and told that there would be a delay in the supply of the electric model and was asked if I wanted cancel the order. After agonising about it, I decided to do what I should have done in the first place, cancelling the electric machine and ordering the petrol model, and I’m so thankful that I was given the opportunity to change my mind!
Assembling the machine is fairly straightforward, although do make sure that you orientate the lower handle so that the pigtail that takes the starter cord is on the right side as you stand behind the machine — I initially attached the lower handle wrongly and had to refit it. I decided to remove the steel scarifying blades and substitute the spring rake as I wanted to remove thatch and moss with only light scratching of the soil surface prior to reseeding. I had to abandon the grass catcher as it filled up too quickly and subsequently had to use a lawn rake to gather up the moss into piles (see picture). I finished off by collecting up loose material in the grass collector of my rotary mower.
The machine started easily every time and functioned perfectly, once I had mastered the height-adjustment mechanism. However, I did identify two issues. Firstly, the grass catcher is quite tricky to re-locate in its housing. There is probably a knack to this but, so far, I haven’t managed to master the technique. If I were advising Hyundai, I would tell their engineers to redesign the mechanism. The other issue concerns the hand wheels that secure the handles. No matter how tightly I did them up, there was always the tendency for them to work loose due to the vibration of the machine. On two occasions I found missing wheels amongst piles of moss, and they could easily have been thrown away. The fixings come supplied with a plain washer, so I decided to add a starlock washer and a drop of threadlocker fluid for good measure (see picture). I have plenty of storage space so don’t need to collapse the handle, but those who do would have to omit the threadlocker fluid. With luck, the starlock washers should work on their own. Other than these issues, I’m delighted with my purchase and would encourage those tossing up between an electric or a petrol machine (particularly those with large lawns) to go for the petrol version, freeing the operator from an electric cable.

Quality machine that does an excellent job.

Over all its fantastic, grass has been very wet so I doubt it’s working at its best but I had no choice. Beware if you have stones in your soil under the grass, I’ve had 3 caught by the rotor and thrown backwards smashing through the rear flap! If you’re wanting to use it without the collector bag be cautious there’s potential for injury

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersWatch a couple of YouTube videos of ordinary people using this product. So I bought it when the price was reduced. Just love it.
Easy to assemble. Easy to start and use. Just adjust you require height, but start off high and work your way down.

Easy to use heavy duty with a good engine, could be better at setting the depth but you get there

Fantastic first use from the machine – really easy to assemble – 4 stroke oil included in the box and a great follow-along video to help with the few bolts which needed putting together.

The machine is heavy so lifting the box and the machine out of the box is tough going, but once you’ve got used to it and built it is actually easier to manage/carry.

A 2-1 product – allows both scarifying and aeration using two separate attachments. Lightweight allowing ease of use and cover a large area. Only negative is collector bag is quite small and really frustrating trying to get it on and off – not great design compared to my lawnmowers.

Easy to assemble and use. Rear grass collector is possibly a bit small but fits in the shed neatly. Scarifies efficiently.

Read the instructions before use. But after a practice it works a dream. As usual the catch basket Is not usable due too capacity so be prepared too rake

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBought this as we have a large lawn which was mainly weed through which the grass struggled to grow. After a quote from a lawn company we bought this as, although its a considered purchase, it would still be cheaper in the long run and we can re-use time and again! The amount of thatch that came out the lawn was incredible and the lawn has really recovered and looks amazing. The only thing to whinge about really is what has already been said by other reviewers. The collection box is far, far too small. After the first ‘strip’ we gave up on that and resorted to the trusty rake! Can’t complain about the effectiveness of it though!

These bolts hold the handle in place. Once you get the level of “cut” then all flows quickly until the collection bag fills which is very frequently. It is probably better to leave it off if you have a large area to de-moss and then pick up with a mower.
    Faily easy to start.

Absolute beast of a machine. I have a large garden (about a third of an acre) literally full of moss and weeds. This scarifier completely tore up bags and bags of the stuff. Didn’t bother with the collection bag as needed a big rake up after anyway. Brilliant machine.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMy old electric 12 inch scarifier does a decent job but because of its size and lack of power takes ages to do even a small piece of lawn. This Hyundai turns what used to be 4 hours work into a joyful 30 minutes: just a proper piece of kit. You need to set the rakes to the right height (it’s power tears up the turf if set too deep), but that’s very easy to adjust, and also take care near the edges (if the wheels fall into the border you’ll rake too deep – I’ve kept my little electric machine to do the edges). To have the aeration blade cartridge as well is a double plus: saves all that boring forking to open things up. Having the right kit aftger years of making do is just lovely.

This is a superb machine for the money with attachments for both scarifying and raking.. I found it easy to push and ripped out heaps of moss from 650 sq m

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI live in a listed mansion house within a ten acre garden with 25 homes within the gated estate. We self manage and I look after the grounds together with a full time gardener, we had already purchased a Hyundai pressure washer which works amazingly and so bought this new machine again from the same manufacturer. I used it this week for the first this week and I find that both functions work excellently, the collecting box is a little small for the amount of Moss it removed but I left it off and collected up afterwards with our tractor mower. I could not be more pleased with its workings.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSeriously good bit of kit. Fantastic job at leave raking on a high settling. But the scarification is A+. Just scarified a 15 by 10 metre lawn that was electrically raked in four directions last weekend. One pass has lifted a further 6 builders bags of moss/thatch. Very pleased.

Although don’t scarify up a slope as the instructions say…..

Very easy starting engine, is quiet heavy but manageable. The collector is of course too small, by the nature of the job so plan to manually rake up afterwards. Looking forward to a decent lawn next year.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI’ve never thought of buying Hyundai product for the garden before, but I must admit I’m really impressed. Set up was really simple – attach the handle, fill with oil (supplied), put petrol in and then it started on first pull!
The scarifier works exactly as you would expect – the micro adjustment of the blades allows perfect height adjustment and although some don’t use the collection box, I do, and it collects everything.
    Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
