igloo history – about us

Born from a modest metalworking shop back in 1947, Igloo has been instrumental in redefining how we live, work and play. What began with bringing clean water to the worksite quickly moved into super-functional, best in class ice chests. Igloo products made the family outdoor recreation movement of the 20th century possible. Suddenly, taking your kids camping on the weekend became easy and cross-country roadtrips became a summer vacation staple.

And through it all we haven’t lost sight of our original goal—to create products that enable the pursuit of happiness (however you define it). That’s why we’re still working hard every day to innovate, create, and make it easier for you to get out, work hard and play even harder.

Been used for camping and fishing. Wish it had a drain on the bottom. Keeps ice for a few days even in the heat. Easy to clean and doesn’t retain smells

Cooler is very well built. Have used it for a step stool without a thought of concern. Handle is built equally tough and ready to carry a full load of beers, sodas, whatever suits your mood for the whole gang.

Read some reviews that were way to hyped on this thing, saying I’ve would last for daysI don’t think such a cooler exists. If it does it’s not this one, but it does a great job holding for a day or two and I don’t have gripes.

Remember it’s pretty small which is great if you’re packing in a lot of gear, but you’re not feeding your 6-8 kids out of it for 2-3 daysWould recommend for any 2 person couple of day adventures or 4-6 peeps for a day trip.

Gifted to husband for daily use, he loves it. Loves the handle, the rugged exterior, and the interior size fits a frozen gallon jug of water plus room for lunch. Great deal when comparing costs to other comparable quality name brands. Very pleased.

Bought this cooler to use on a long road trip to keep drinks and snacks cool. I found the cooler to keep ice for a long time. It may not be as efficient as one of the high end coolers but is defiantly better than a the low end models. I great middle ground solution well worth the cost.

This is a hardcore cooler, very tough and well made. Retains cold and ice for a loooong time. I did buy a white one because we primarily use this at the beach

This cooler holds ice for days even in the Arizona desert! Took it to the Colorado River and it kept the drinks ice cold, when I got home, I dumped it out and it was all ice. Almost no water!

I was prompted by Amazon this morning to do some reviews. I did one because I like the device then I just kept doing it more and more and more. This cooler seem sturdy enough, but it was more than I needed. I ended up returning it I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it if I really need one like this.

This cooler is the best! It’s the perfect size for my husband and i to load up with drinks. I’d say it holds at least 24 cans with plenty of room for ice and maybe a few waters in between. He handle is thick and heavy duty and we love the straps that hold it shut. We’ve only had this cooler for the summer and it’s been to the beach, camping, boating, and cookouts. We have used it so much already.

I purchased this as a insulated starter cooler for me to see if I want to eventually purchase a bigger and potentially more expensive one later down the road. So far I’m sold on this. Don’t have to get ice as much as I used to with a less insulated cooler. I would recommend this one who just wants to get a decent size one that just wants to take on a day trip or do the same thing I’m doing and seeing if you want to eventually purchase i bigger and more expensive one down the road.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersOk so im changing my review. When I first got my igloo bmx cooler I was absolutely pleased with it. Im still happy with how the cooler keeps everything cold for a day to 2 days depending on the temperature you have it in. I have had it for 2 months and a week now. The handle is breaking on one side. Im not rough on this cooler and only use the handle to carry it. I’ve never had this cooler too heavy to carry and honestly its never had more than 5-7 lbs total in it. Besides the handle breaking my only other issue is that it doesnt have a drain spout and you have to manually tip it over to get the melted ice out. Other then those complaints I love the look of the cooler and how well its insulated to keep everything cold. Hopefully in two more months I won’t have more complaints.

Bought this to replace Playmate cooler of same size. Maybe a bit bulkier, but works far better. On a road trip where we would have to replace ice in our Playmate after a few hours, this one remains cold and lasts much longer.

It’s an okay cooler, it does what it’s supposed to do. It’s sturdy and the handle makes it feel secure when carrying. We put a 16 lb bag of ice yesterday at 8am and this is it now at 830am. I saw a guy put a rubber seal around the rim on the inside part to insulate better. But all around it’s okay it’s a nice looking cooler but personally wouldn’t get more then a day out of ice for i

The cooler is good but I think the marketing team over exaggerated just a bit. Mine keeps ice for tops 2 days and that’s while sitting inside my air conditioned house. Overall I like the cooler but the whole 5 day thing is bs…

I used a frozen laundry soap jug for ice and it kept everything cold for a full 4 days. It gets cold fast and stays cold. We were in 80-90+ temps and kept it in the shade.

We’ve used this cooler a few times now and have been impressed with its ability to keep ice and thus its contents very cold. By the fourth hot summer day the ice had finally melted.

Love this cooler, keeps things pretty cold I just wish it had a drain so I don’t have to completely dump the water out. It’s also a pretty heavy cooler to carry around considering it’s not overly big.

Once the cooler is conditioned (add ice and let it get conditioned to the cold temp) this cooler responds competitively with the high end coolers like Yeti and RTIC for a fraction of the cost. The styling is great and appears to be very durable. The padded handle is also a nice touch for carrying the cooler.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI love this cooler because keeps the food cold for longer periods of time. Just be aware that doesn’t have the hole to drop the water and you need to flip the entire thing with food in to dump the melted ice. I have used it for a full weekend. No longer than that. For 2 max 3 days is good. In summer you may need to replace ice. It really works for me. Is small size as well so good for single person and no a lot of food. Just what is needed.

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersSuper spacious interior – perfect for a couple on a week-long trip! There is no gasket to seal this cooler. As a result, it may not keep ice for 4 days as advertised. Normally, I’d take off a star for that but I found a really simple fix. Just use 2 plastic shopping bags placed flat, handles opposite each other and on top of one another on top of your cooler goods. Voila! Super seal and ice keeps for what seems like forever. The dry weight of this cooler does not overwhelm our older couple selves. Nice sturdy handle. Doesn’t cost a fortune. We don’t mind going around with our shopping bags sticking out! Great cooler. Not perfectbut great. I recommend.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersI want to start with the excellent customer service. This cooler is much bigger and heavier than what I expected, and I didn’t know if it would work for me. I was able to contact the seller via Amazon to discuss it. I was surprised by their response – it was fast, helpful, and left me knowing that I would do business with them again. It ultimately turned out it was good for me to keep the cooler.

Now to the cooler. It is solid! And it’s heavy before adding your food and beverages. So, if you plan to fill it up and take this to the beach with the family, you might be in for a workout. But we packed it and took it to a hotel about 2 hours away for a 3-day stay. On arrival, I carried it to the elevator and on to our room. With no strap, it limited my ability to carry extra luggage since one hand was full. But if there was a strap, I don’t think you could carry it that way for long anyway due to the weight.

The great thing was that we opened it to find that it was pretty much exactly as we packed it. And throughout the first evening we opened it a lot! The next morning it was exactly as we left it. I used to fill a bucket or two from the hotel ice maker in the mornings, but we went on our way without, and were still good later that day. I did add ice during the weekend, but this thing does so much better than our previous coolers.

We made Thai purchase for a short beach trip and it was perfect to keep drinks and snacks in without having to carry a huge, heavy cooker to and from the beach.

Bought this for a boys trip to Vegas, fits comfortably in the trunk, and is compact enough to not be a burden. Easy to clean and when I’m done with it I clean it and slide it in my closet and since it’s so boxy it plays fairly with my other things in my closet. There are a few downsides to this and its when you open it too far it feels like it’s gonna snap it off so be careful when opening it all the way. The other downside to it is the fact that there is no drain plug, I understand that it’s a small cooler and all you have to do it kick it to one side but come on at least add a plug. Other than that, I recommend this cooler if you want a nice compact cooler and kind of a bang for your buck.

I like the size & color, but this is way too heavy to carry out to the beach. My arm is sore every time. The ice melts sorta quick too. I expected it to keep things cold longer since it’s so heavy. We still use it for road trips

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersFirst time having a cool box with this much insulation, it took a couple times of using to learn that you have to cool the insulation down to let it work properly, you can’t just pull it out the cupboard and expect it to keep food frozen. By using a couple water filled frozen 2lt pop bottles and some cold water the night before you need it, it will keep your food frozen, just keep topping it up with ice from the shops to keep it cold.

Item arrived today and was just left on my doorstep .The cooler looks well made and is a good size , 1lt pop bottle easily stands up in it.Im going to use it on 28th for 3 days camping so will update it’s performance then.
Update.. I chilled it overnight prior to using it for three days. I lined the bottom and sides with blue freezer packs and by the third day it was still coldish. The downside is that you have to use so many blocks that there isn’t alot of room for the food that you want to chill.Overall I have to say I wouldn’t recommend this size cooler but getting the bigger one might give you more room but it might require alot more cool blocks .

Golden Review Award: 152 From Our UsersApparently I read so many cooler reviews prior to buying this one, my other half now tells strangers I am a “cooler expert.” I am not, but I did seriously consider over 50 coolers from $10 to the $200+ YETI and ORCA brand versions in similar capacity.

I was almost checked out on an ORCA when I read several recent reviews about manufacturing faults (which happen even on expensive items) followed by terrible customer service and warranty redemption. In the end I figured while I knew the heavy hitting brands were amazing at what they do, I didn’t want to risk being the 1 in 100 who got screwed while paying the big bucks. This seemed the most reasonable chance.

I was most nervous of all the reports of the handle pegs coming out, or the brackets loosening- but noticed many of these complaints were tied to a specific time frame of manufacturing and a few specific models/colors.

I didn’t care too much about it holding up to rough handling, as we bought it for road trips in the back of our CR-V, but I did want it to 1. Not leak, 2. Be able to support my chonky 200lb butt as a seat in a pinch, and 3. Keep my items chilled for a minimum of 48 hours with proper conditioning prior to fill/use.

Overall I have been very happy with the buy for the money.

I have niggles the handle and even man handled the top and brackets extensively, and more than I ever would in normal use and all seems tight and secure. I love that the rubber snap toggles on the front are easy to use and I feel it creates a nice snug air seal. It does and has supported my butt/weight without feeling flimsy.

Here is our basic breakdown of a good test run:

For one use I wanted to drive 2 hours away to pick up 13 pints of handcrafted ice cream, then stop and eat for an hour, and drive back home.

I put the cooler in our kitchen overnight with 5 frozen water bottles and a towel to help fill the empty space and insulate.

About 14 hours later 1 bottle had thawed, 3 were solid frozen, 1 was 1/3 thawed. At this point I placed 5lbs of dry ice (wrapped in the towel) on top of the remaining frozen bottles, removing the 1 thawed one. On top of the towel and bottles I added 4 small frozen gatorades.

Later that day (9 hours after dry ice) we arrived at our pickup destination. All bottles were still just as frozen as they had been 9 hours prior. I had to remove the oldest (frozen water) bottles to fit 13 pints of ice cream. At this point inside the cooler was 4.75 lb dry ice wrapped in a towel, 4 small frozen gatorades, and 13 pints of ice cream with little free space.

We arrived home about 3 hours later and everything seemed just as frozen as when we’d left. I removed the pints and left the dry ice wrapped in the towel, 4 small frozen gatorades, and added the mostly frozen 3 water bottles back in. The inside of the cooler was about half empty space so definitely not most efficient.

I came back 12 hours later just to check and was shocked to see everything inside still frozen and the brick of dry ice perhaps at 60% mass to it’s initial pickup some 26 hours prior.

I drove around all day in the 90F heat, opening the cooler 3 times to retried or put a chilled (not frozen) food item or drink inside. At the end of Day 2 all 4 mini gatorades were still frozen, 3 water bottles were icey but half thawed, dry ice was around 40% original mass.

On Day 3 I went out to check the state of things and noticed there was still some ice between the towel and the cooler wall and while 1 gatorade had thawed, the 3 directly under the dry ice towel were still rock frozen. I removed the last of the original water bottles.

Another day 85F heat, opened once, return home, dry ice maybe 20 percent mass, less than 1/4 original, the 3 gatorades were sweaty but still 80% ice.

Day 4 I wake up and check and the dry ice is pretty much gone, I toss the bag, leave the towel over the 3 gatorades, still icy, about 1/4 icey but very very cold. Drive around 86F, 7 hours later I open up the cooler and take a sip of one of the original gatorades it is ice chilled but liquid.

The above example was done with minimal efficiency- I feel confident if I kept the inside packed with little air space I could’ve increased results further. But, honestly, I am quite happy with how well everything kept in my car for 4 days with temperatures 85-90F in SoCal.

If I have a gripe it’s the weight. This thing is clunky and cumbersome, but it works.
