Installed 2 weeks ago (Windows 10, Raid 6). Transfer speed is very fast. Quite but there is slight tin drumming noise from the housing.
I put 4 sorbothane feet just under the each feet of the unit. And there is, literally, no noise at all. There is hard disk’s seeking noise but it is noise from the hard disk, not the noise from this unit. And I don’t have any problem with it.
Anyway, Very solid product. I’m happy with my purchase so far.

Super happy I got this. Fast as hell, and tons of space for music production and video editing. Hoping the drives last a long time!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSo far so good. The 6big is super heavy but seems like a solid build.

It’s incredibly fast! In CrystalDiskMark5 64 bit I get around 1050MB/s write and 1150MB/s read speeds in RAID 5 connected via Thunderbolt 3. If you get lower speeds, make sure to pause the background initialization or wait until it’s finished. The 6big is not the quietest RAID I’ve ever seen/heard but that’s to be expected if you have 6 3.5″ HDDs running on your desk. If I could leave 4.5 stars, I would. If it weren’t for the sound (noise is too strong a word) I would rate it 5 stars. That being said, I might be overly sensitive or my office walls don’t absorb the sound very well.

I’m running this LaCie 6big connected to a PC with a ASRock Z370 Killer SLI/ac LGA 1151 (300 Series) motherboard. I had to buy a Gigabyte Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt 3 PCIe Card in order to use Thunderbolt 3 but this card was easy to install and worked right out of the box after installing Thunderbolt drivers.

I wish LaCie would sell empty enclosures for half the price so I could buy my own bigger drives, but 24TB (20TB in RAID 5) are enough for now.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersUpdate: LaCie replaced the unit in a few days (it arrived sooner than promised). I ran a full erase, to exercise the entire disk, and there were no problems. The replacement unit is working flawlessly. Performance is outstanding (measured over 1000 Mbytes/sec read/write by Blackmagic and AJA). So far no glitches. It is quiet, great cooling, and solidly built. After a rocky start, I hope this will be the start of a happy long term relationship.

I can definitely say LaCie honors their warranty.

Original: My unit died within 24 hours. This is a very disappointing for an expensive professional grade unit. It’s built like a tank, but if it doesn’t work, it’s useless. I ran a disk exercise to validate it before putting it into production and it died with over 10 disk errors and now one of the disks is offline and will not rejoin the array. Service is going to replace the unit – that’s good. It is going to take several days – that’s bad. Now I can’t finish putting together a new computer system I need because I’m missing a key component. I ordered this a few days early to make sure it was all ready to go. This is impacting my business!
