I have used these extractor fans for three of my bathrooms now. They each replaced a vortex unit in the loft which really did not move much air. These extractors are powerful and work really well. They are easy to install in the loft. Don’t forget to order jubilee clips to attach your hoses to the fan.

Replaced a old noisy uni from a different manufacturer. This has more power drawing from two bathrooms but much quieter even at full speed.
Easy to connect and set the speed with a jumper.

Fitted this inline fan in loft above bathroom, works a treat no noise from fan ,however suction valve in ceiling noticible noise ,expected from powerful fan ,mains connectors very small other then that all good.

These are made in the UK and are my go to fan for ventilation projects in my family’s houses.

Used to improve under house airflow and reduce musty cellar odours – it’s helped a bit.
It was easy to set up and has run continuously for nearly 3 years. Cant fault it.

It’s a doddle to install, and very powerful, I put mine on the lowest setting as it’s only a small bathroom, but we can see it sucking the air out when you have a shower. It’s also quiet, even on max power it was still quieter than the one I replaced.

Very easy to install and for the power of the fan very quiet. I installed it as a replacement for a ceiling extractor that had no power to it. It clears the room. Wish I had gone for the timer version however it is a great item.

Easy to fit, made me realise how much under power the old one was, quite when running like how you can clean it as well.

Had same one in bathroom before, this one seems more powerful, perhaps upgraded in some way. 3 power settings as on last one. Set on highest and keeps steam clear. Easy to wire and fit as everuthing was there from before. But would be a doddle from scratch.

Lasted FIVE FULL YEARS. On 24/7 to take out the humidity in a walking closet. Haven’t had mould anywhere in the room since the day it was installed. Finally konked out 5 years later so bought another. Guess what? It’s now half the price it was in 2016! Brilliant!

This is my second Manrose inline fan. The first one lasted 7 years so decent lifespan. It had a timer on it which this one doesn’t.
I dont miss the timer feature and this one seems even quieter than my last one.

These are great devices. I’d never go back to a regular extractor fan.

Was easy to install, I wired it up to test before fitting it and it seemed to work really well with great suction. So I fitted it and now I am not convinced it is strong enough. I like the unit but would look at something stronger if I done it again.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have now purchased 2 of these for bathroom extractors and situated them in the loft space above the bathrooms. They are easy to install (no earth required) and they are VERY quiet in operation on the high setting (as delivered); the extractors cannot be heard in the bathrooms, just the low pitched sound of the extract air. We have 2 smallish bathrooms and the high/fast setting is perfect (as preset on delivery). I tried the slower settings by altering the jumper but they are then less effective – just use it as delivered! Before ordering, when I looked at the specs, I initially thought they would be far too powerful but that is not the case at all – they are perfect for a domestic bathroom! I changed all the inlet 100mm ducting at installation (think this is important) as I did not want to suck in the dirt from the previous extractors and 100mm flexible ducting is cheap in any case.

This is a beast of a fan. Compared to the fan I replaced this is so much better but also so much bigger. The old fan fitted under the insulation but this bad boy had to be mounted on top of the joists so not as tidy up in the loft but it’s no big deal.
    Well worth the money.

I’ve fitted these to two shower rooms in my house. One of the rooms had a standard ceiling fan and there were problems with condensation. That’s no longer a problem. The other shower room was a replacement of an existing in-line fan that was end of life after only 3 years. This Manrose replacement is much quieter and seems to clear the steam faster.

I had the usual ceiling mounted fan, I could fart more air than this moved. It finally packed is so I got the Manros MF100s inline fan.
This thing is awsome, I have it on full power because its fairly quiet even with only 3 ft of ducting to the outside wall.
Mounted it on a joist with some old rubber matting under it so no vibrato on.
Obviously it’s not silent, it’s moving a lot of air. If you need a replacement fan get one of these you will not be disappointed.
You will need a back draft shutter as this does not have one.
Very easy to install just two wires.

speed has three settings but kept it on full. There is no motor noise (installed in the loft) but you can hear the air sucking through the grille at this setting.
The connection terminals are very flimsy for a mains unit and relies on the clamp to keep the wires steady.
The box arrived with nothing but the motor inside (no instructions) so I think that it had been opened and returned but I was in a hurry or I would have returned it. Not happy about that. Got the instructions from the internet.

Installation is easy, good quality, quiet, still early days to tell about durability and performance. Probably will provide an update a bit later. I like the design which you can remove the main unit without dismantling the exhaust hose. And rotate the unit to make the power more accessible. Power seems to be less than I expected, probably should have checked before.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI purchased this unit to extract hot air and high humidity out of an 8ft x 8ft room. I wondered if a 4″ version would be good enough but I was pleasantly surprised. If you have any doubts don’t worry. It works great. Inside the fan is quiet the only slight noise is through the vent grid outlet to outside. You will need a lead and plug to connect to power supply or cable etc. You can change the speed from low, med or high using a jumper as well.
I have been using the unit running continuous for 12 hours a day since I purchased a few weeks ago and no problems. Don’t worry about quality, it s fine and made in the UK.
19/08/20 Fan has been running continuous now since purchase without any problems, buying another today !

Don’t know why I ever bothered with those rediculous ceiling mounted fans. They could never clear a steamy bathroom like this can and I only have it on medium speed. If you have some loft space, get this extractor fan.

It is easy to install and fairly quiet. If you can get use to a ceiling mounted fan you will get use to this one as well. Don’t know how long it will last but the build quality looks good. Only time will tell.

    Very happy with the purchase.

It is a little larger than expected, but this is good as the base/stand gives it good stability. A sturdy bit of kit. Easy to install and fit the trunking. Works well. I will give it 5 stars if it keeps working for a good length of time.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersReplaced an old Manrose ID100 inline fan which serviced our ensuite bathroom with this bad boy, and was not disappointed. My baseline was that the old fan didn’t even have enough suction to hold a tissue up against the intake grill – it just fell to the ground. The new fan feels like it would hold the whole box up there!

I installed it in the ‘high’ setting and may even be able to turn it down.

Super easy to install, the hardest part was climbing the ladder into the loft.

If you don’t already have them, it’s worth getting a set of 100mm jubilee clips to secure the ducting to the fan.

Bought this as we were having the bathroom modernised and wanted to move away from the old Expelair device with the fan in the ceiling. It was so noisy you could here it over the house.

I chose this model after seen the same device (timer one) at my son’s house. So bought without a timer as we have a dedicated switch on the outside of the bathroom.

You can see the steam passing one of the bedroom windows and the mirror no longer fogs up. Its very quite on its top speed and it passed the suction test (A4 paper thrown up) and sticks to the outlet.

Golden Review Award: 126 From Our UsersI purchased mine to ventilate a basement and reduce the humidity, and it works very well indeed, being quiet, powerful and reliable. Despite the listing info this is in fact a three speed fan!
    Here are the specs:

    High Speed – 2400 RPM, 25 Watts, 245 m3/hr, 24dB(A) @3m, Max pressure 200Pa
    Medium Speed – 2100 RPM, 23Watts, 216 m3/hr, 22dB(A) @3m, Max pressure 170Pa
    Low Speed – 1700 RPM, 20Watts, 180 m3/hr, 20dB(A) @3m, Max pressure 120Pa
Fan speed can be infinitely controlled using a separate, optional speed controller

    Physical Dimensions:
Total length, end-to-end: 298mm including the 30mm long spigots
Diameter of spigots: 102mm external, 98mm internal
    Height O/A: 230mm (195 main body + 35mm electrics box)
    Width O/A: 175mm

In-line fans are far quieter and a lot more efficient than their surface mounted cousins, and I chose the Manrose for a number of reasons. Chief among them is that I have Manrose products installed elsewhere and all have been completely reliable. Unlike most extractors nowadays this one is manufactured here in the UK, in Reading. So if there was ever a problem, I needed a spare part, or some technical advice, it’s easily obtainable. The same is not true of imported goods.

It’s also very well designed, and after installation the central motor unit can be unclipped and lifted away from the mounting without needing to undo your ducting either side, which is a great feature for easy maintenance! The listing says it’s a two speed unit, but that is no longer correct, and this model has since been upgraded to three speed options, selectable by altering a jumper lead under the screw down electrics box on the top.

As you’ll see from the specs I gave, it’s unusually quiet at 24db on high speed. Wikipedia quotes 30db as being an average whisper! When powered up unconnected it’s noisier, due to undirected airflow noise, but once installed it’s very quiet. I have mine connected up using acoustic damping flexible duct which pretty much eliminates motor noise both at the air inlet and outside vent. It works in a roughly similar way to a silencer on a gun, and I recommend it highly.

Finally, here’s an installation tip for you: extractor fans are always more efficient sucking air through a pipe rather than trying to blow it down. So in other words, mount your inline extractor as close to the exhaust vent as possible for maximum efficiency and performance. But it you want some attenuation of motor noise, do use a suppressor or short length of acoustic duct between the outflow spigot and the outside vent.

I hope this review has been useful to you, and as ever I’m happy to answer questions if have any – just hit the comments button below and I’ll get back to you. 🙂

I bought this to replace a faulty shower fan. I had to install mine on top of a box room inside a very tight space and on the ceiling (fastened on wood).

The device works as advertised and is quiet and powerful.

Installation was not easy mostly because of the awkward position and partially because of the bulk of the device and that it was designed to be installed on floor (face up).

One tiny quirk, I wish the lips of the outlet/inlet had a bit of resistance/texture to fasten easier the duct pipe. I used zip fasteners and easily could slip. I didn’t want to use tape but perhaps I should.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOur old Manrose centrifugal fan had started to fail, it was about 3 years old, so we looked for an in-line fan. This had lots of good reviews around the web.

This is the MF100S which doesn’t include the run on timer, I was really after the MF100T that does but we found one of these in a warehouse deal and it was too good to turn down.

The fan was well packaged, came with all the parts and works perfectly, we don’t get any steamed up mirrors of damp sides in the bathroom at all. With the old fan, if you had a shower it would still be quite steamy in the room but there is nothing with this fan. If like us you don’t have a window in your bathroom then this is a great fan. Not having a run on timer is not a problem because it works so well whilst you are in the bathroom.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAfter discovering that the electrician who fitted my previous shower fan had actually used a cheap, plasticky one I trawled the web for something better and found this at a good price on Amazon. The person who fitted this one commented on how well made and sturdy it was. To be honest if I put this next to the one that came out the other one looks like a cheap toy. You need to check the measurements because for a 4″ fan it is big. But it is very easy to fit and put into place. The only downside is that it is loud-sh. Mine is wired to come on as soon as the bathroom light is switched on and it goes off immediately too with no over-run. I believe if you fit an additional part you can adjust the over-run time. In terms of its ability to work well and remove steam I am very happy with it. (This fan only extracts from directly above the shower in a proper shower cubicle and is not installed in the main bathroom).

I will see how it goes but in the 3 or 4 weeks I’ve had it installed it is working very well.

Purchased this after reading previous reviews and was not disappointed. It was easy to install as we were replacing the existing which had stopped working.
It was fitted in the loft and I managed to get some rubber matting as suggested by others as it was said to be noisy when fitted in loft.
We did not use the matting as the fan is quieter than our previous ones.
It was left on the slower setting and works perfectly well’
We prchased this as a replacment which saved us buying all the vent kit as well.
A very good price for a substantial moto

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersA superb product, easy to install. This slotted in to replace another manrose inline fan which had no power.

    Tip:
When I first installed, the power seemed to drop over a few days. This appeared to be due to the old ducting having dirt etc built up, and the increased power blew this against the exhaust port, partially blocking it. Once replacing/cleaning this, the power picked back up without issue.

Try holding a square of toilet roll near the fan and it should try to suck it out your hand. If it does not do this, checking your ducting for holes, dirt build up, or any blockages. Clean or replace the ducting if required.

Only reason not 5 star review was because my first order of this extractor fan was faulty and did nor work. I have since received a replacement fan and had it installed several days ago. It appears to be working fine. It is far superior to my previous extractor fan. My shower room measures approx. 10’x10′ and this fan effortlessly clears the steam from the room. It is also a far more quiet fan than my previous fan. Here’s hoping I’ve not jinxed myself by giving the fan a resounding thumbs up, only for it to malfunction in the day/weeks ahead.

    Well packaged and superfast delivery.
A great product at a great price.
Having never installed one of these before, I set out on a bit of an adventure and completed it with ease.
The instructions are short and cover the essentials that you need to know, including how to wire it.
You need 4 inch ducting for both the intake and outlet ends as well as grilles or covers for the external wall and one for the internal wall or ceiling.
I have bought the standard version and the timer version a month later as I was so impressed.
Quiet and powerful and a huge improvement on the existing fan which I think just made a loud noise without moving any air.
Our condensation and mould problems in the bathroom have practically disappeared.

Like many, I had one of those silly lumpy extractor fans (Vent-Axia Luminair) above the shower, purchased at an extortionate price and just lasting two years. Annoyed and disappointed when it failed, I decided that I would no longer spend over a hundred pounds for another useless piece of Chinese-made junk – even if the company did have a “By-Appointment” Royal crest. I had not heard of Manrose and noticed the company were selling a wide range of fans and accessories – online and at the high street shops – all with with good reviews and at very reasonable prices. I had expected this fan to come with some accessories/fittings but it does not. You get just the fan and nothing else! As most people would be replacing an existing fan that probably does not matter. I already had in place most bits. Having thrown away the main part of my Vent-Axia Luminair I kept the ducting and of course the light and grill above the shower, purchased a meter of extra ducting and re-used some two-core cabling wire and set about fitting the new fan. Being a larger beast I thought it could end up sounding like a jet engine and that I’d be using the “lower” power setting. However, it turns out that this “Made in Britain” (as per labelling on box) fan is very quiet (less noisy than the Vent-Axia junk it replaced). I had also anticipated vibration from the motor from the attic. I placed a small chipboard on several plastic electrical grommets (the kind used in electrical boxes behind switches, sockets, etc) which I purchased from Screwfix for a couple of pounds and screwed it down. I also placed same grommets as dampers below the fan before screwing on to said board for extra damping. Of course now I don’t believe any of that was needed. You need to judge noise/vibration for yourself and your own environment. Once I switched on – at full speed – I could hardly feel any vibration from the housing. It may look rather large but the motor is only 28 Watts. So at less than half the price of a Vent-Axia and three times the functionality (and hopefully longevity) you’d be crazy not to buy this.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our Users…are a thing of the past now we have a new extractor fan. Our last fan was a Manrose Humidity controlled and I wondered why, after all these years, were we getting mould appearing on the ceiling. Then I realised it wasn’t working so after some searching and seeing that this one had good reviews, bought one. It didn’t take my husband long to install and in comparison to our old one, is fairly quiet. Our old fan could be heard in our bedroom, not good if someone’s had a shower late at night, but this one can’t be heard outside the bathroom. Our old fan came on automatically with the rise in humidity and sometimes took ages to turn off, where as this one we have to remember to turn off. We haven’t got a bath in our bathroom but use a shower with a shower pump, so the room used to get quite steamed up.Now the mirror hardly has any condensation on it and even the tiled walls aren’t anywhere near as wet, I can stand in the shower and watch the steam being sucked away. We always had to have the window open before, but I don’t think we’ve had a shower with the window open since. Once the weather improves and we have the window open slightly, I’m sure there’ll be hardly any condensation at all. If this fan lasts as long as our old one, over 10 years, it’ll be fantastic value for money.
If you’re looking for a new extractor fan, then you should really consider one of these.

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersBought this to replace a budget fan that had finally given up the ghost after 8 years service.

I ended up having to mount the last fan on rubber grommets as the vibration through the ceiling joists (which the fan was screwed to) was making a very noticeable droning noise through the bathroom ceiling. Retro-fitting the rubber grommets largely cured this but the noise was still there…. Even when the fan was on during showering the bathroom still steamed up badly (resembled a steam room!) and the fan had to be left on for 15mins after the event to clear the fog!

Fast forward to the present and the Manrose fan arrived in a big box! I was amazed as to just how much larger it was compared to the fan it was replacing! Not a big deal for me as the fan was going into the loft and the area where it was to be fitted had plenty of free space. Folk that are mounting this in a very tight space I would advise to carefully check the fan’s dimensions to avoid disappointment…

The fan was a doddle to fit! From looking out the ladders from my garage to switching the fan on took 35mins tops, and that was me taking my time. The fan cover hiding the electrical connections is held on with 4 Philips screws and after that all you really need is a small flat blade driver for the electrical terminals on the fan block connector. Oh and you have to pierce the rubber “grommet” to thread the mains cable through to the terminal block connector and there is a cable clamp to tighten once the wiring is completed. No earth wiring is needed as the unit is double-insulated. As this is the non-timer version of the fan, only two wires need connected at the fan. Simplicity itself!

The fan has two speed settings that can be used, and you select the speed by deciding which terminal you connect the neutral wire to – again very straightforward (supplied instructions quite clear). I selected the slower speed as I only have a small bathroom.

I decided to re-use the rubber grommets as I had them to hand and lightly screwed the fan down onto the joist (you need your own screws for this) taking care not to over-compress the grommets.

The flexible hosing was quickly connected to the fan and I used duct tape to ensure the hosing would not come loose and also to ensure an air-tight seal. You can also use cable ties (or I expect a very large metal hose clip) to do the same thing.

So job done, then! What’s it like in use? To be honest it’s a revelation in comparison to what went before! The bathroom hardly steams up at all now, and less than 5 mins later what little steam was there is gone! The bathroom mirror is quite close to the shower (it’s a bath shower with a curtain, not a shower cubicle so steam can escape beyond the shower area) but the mirror is only JUST starting to fog-up after a 10 min shower, and that disappears quickly. Noise-wise the motor itself is completely silent, with not even the faintest vibration coming through the ceiling! The noise you do hear is of the air being sucked through the vent – which you never heard with the old fan – probably because it didn’t shift nearly as much air. The suction noise is pretty noticeable, but I don’t find it annoying – if anything its good to know the extraction is so effective!

All in all I rate this fan really highly. It seems very well made, is mechanically near-silent, shifts a heck of a lot of air (even on low setting) and is easy to install. Servicing the motor (e.g. to remove lint/dust) only involves removing two screws and the fan part of the assembly detaches from the rest of the fan body, leaving the hoses undisturbed. Excellent! Can’t comment on reliability, but the fan runs on good bearings and the chassis seems solid, so I expect it’ll last.

Golden Review Award: 36 From Our UsersThere are reviews for the similar model that has the timer function included, but to be honest, this fan is very efficient, so unless your bathroom gets VERY steamy, you wouldn’t really need it. I had another smaller inefficient Manrose extractor fan fitted in the loft, when the bathroom was refitted 3 years ago. That one, Manrose Shower Light Extractor Fan Kit chrome or white was fitted by an electrician at the time, but it wasn’t up to the job & was rather noisy for such a little fan. It wasn’t very durable either, packing up after only two years. So decided to invest in this one. Its considerably more powerful, robust in construction & without the timer function, easier to wire up, just two wires in my case!.

First thing that struck me, when I removed it out the box, was just how big it is! Compared the original (which was basically a 4″ fan/motor, with simple couling around it, and a small box-cum-mounting bracket, containing the timer electronics.) This one is still a 4″ fan, but the extra couling around it, means that it is approximately 10″ long, 7″ high & 6″ across!

I fitted the mounting bracket to a piece of loft boarding & screwed that to the roof joists, but I recommend that you put a piece of rubber matting or similar, between the mounting bracket and boarding, to help reduce vibrations through the roofing joists. My one is situated directly above shower itself (in the loft), so I did this to reduce noise. Took me all of an hour to fit it, its very straightforward and simple to do, but if you’re not compentant with electrical wiring, best get someone in to do this, but it’ll only take a few minutes to do.

One handy additional feature on this model, is that it is possible to wire it for two speeds, if perferred. I chose to wired it for the lower speed, as believe me, in a modest sized bathroom, it is more than suffient! First time I used it, absolutely no steam formed in the bathroom at all! But I would recommend that you have a window slightly ajar, to allow fresh air to vent the room. This allows the fan to do its job properly, but does create a slight draught doing so! I found the room to be slightly colder after stepping out of the shower, than before with the original fan. It’ll be interesting to see what it’ll like in the winter! Easy to gain access to the working parts to clean, there is two arched brackets that loop over the fan assembly part, simply unscrew two screws, flip the brackets over & lift the fan assembly out. The brilliant thing here is, there is no need to undo the ducting, as the ducting is attached to two coulings couplings, that sit either side of the fan. Simple, logical & practical design sense! I also found this one to be quieter in operation than the original fan.

All in all, I’m impressed with this one, it feels like it will last, but unable to comment on durability as of yet, I’ve only just fitted it today! Hopefully this one will last considerably longer than the wimpy fan that I had before!

UPDATE: 02/05/14: I have now had this fan fitted for just over a year, and have had absolutely no problems with it at all, does the job! I used to have a small problem with mould forming in my bathroom from time to time prior to fitting this fan, not had any mould form in the bathroom since! Very impressed with this!

UPDATE: 07/09/15: 2 & half years have passed now, Fan still functioning perfectly fine, still no mould forming in my bathroom!

UPDATE: 08/09/16: Still good folks, no problems at all, went to clean the fan assembly a couple of weeks ago, which I’ve not done since I installed it 3 & half years ago, hardly any dirt to speak of, just a quick wipe of the fan blades was all that was required!

UPDATE: 12/09/17: Now getting on for 4 1/2 years since I’ve fitted this fan…..still going strong folks…no problems at all…superb fan! (That almost sounded like I want it to break down, dunnit!!!!) 🙂

    UPDATE: 17/01/20: It’s still going! 🙂

UPDATE: 28/07/22: Yep..it’s still going. 9 years now, no problems at all. 🙂
