I like the style comfort and versatility. Great for low level walking or travel. You may need to consider if planning to wear with walking socks going for a half size bigger than your usual shoe size.

This is the third pair that I’ve bought for my partner. Hope they never get discontinued as he doesn’t want to wear any others. Strong, waterproof and great value for money, would definitely recommend.

I’ve had these for a while now, so they have been well-tested! I walk at least 5 miles a day, and these were perfectly comfy from the first day. No blisters, no rubbing. Vented, so they are cooler in them summer. I’ve worn them on all terrains and am very happy with them.

I have used Merrell Moab boots for several years. This is my first set of non Goretex vented shoes. They are fantastic for summer wear in 23C weather my feet almost fell cold, even with thick hiking socks. Great for walking, hiking where you don’t need ankle support, and everyday casual wear.
    Highly recommend.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI needed light but rugged shoes for summer dog walking over all terrains. Noting comments of other reviewers, as a 9 1/2 I ordered size 10. Result was a perfect fit – I have never before had shoes so comfortable straight out of the box: snug fit round the heel, roomy toe box, sensible laces. Grip in the dry is superb. Use has exceeded expectations. Durability, of course, is a matter of time; and these shoes will not keep your feet dry in the wet. They are, however, exactly what I needed, I am delighted, and I recommend them unreservedly.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWell, having suffered like most over the last three years, buying shoes was a cost saver. But getting out and about, cheap shoes really take their toll. so with spring in the air I treated myself to a pair of Merrells.
Wow! I knew they came up a little small so for my 9 1/2 feet I got size 10… perfect. Not shore if it’s my feet or the genius of the Merrell shoe maker (got to be them) but they fit so well, straight out of the box I was wearing them all day. At a certain age you might think comfy shoes don’t care about what they look like, but with Merrell shoes you have both comfort and style. Now, how far away is Mount Snowdon…

Hubby has worn this exact model of the last 7/8 years so he was happy that they are still a current model. well made durable and comfortable.

I had always wanted to try them. They fit me really well. The shoes feel very sturdy and has a great fit. I took it out for a easy hike today and it had a good grip and does the job well. However I found that the soles are very stiff and tough to break in. Need more wearing to soften the soles. It can be really hard on your soles the first few days so need to be patient. Overall happy with the purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stiff and sturdy hiking shoes. Need additional time to break in the stuff soles.

Had 6 pairs of these trainer over the years, the size seems to be smaller, always had size 11 but had to return and get a pair of 12s, had this with the brown and blue

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAll in all I like Merrell trainers and have bought many over the years.
However as you can see these have started falling apart already.
I will carry on wearing them – partly because I can’t afford to change every 9 months – but I was hoping they’d last much longer.

Falling apart after just 9 months regular wear.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThese seem a little more robust than other similar Merrells I’ve bought in the past and look good. Slightly less likely to get a soggy foot while puddle jumping but by no means waterproof. Should be a comfortable fit with the easily adjustable laces but I should have gone up a size from previous Merrells – which could have been a predecessor to these or might have been Moabs.. Whatever – err on the side of bigness

I demand a lot from my footwear. I wear the same shoes all day, every day and they get heavy use over a good mixture of terrain. I usually go through a pair of walking shoes in his price range every 4-6 months by which point, the soles are worn and the shoes are falling apart… but not my MOABs. They’re still in great condition after the usual abuse. I would highly recommend these for a light but tough walking shoe, though there is a but…

But… like many others here, I am slightly disappointed by the lack of water resistance. My original Merrell MOABs were brilliant at keeping your feet dry but I think this time they went too hard on the ‘breathable’ material, I have had other light, breathable walking shoes that offered more water resistance than these do. Hopefully Merrell will some day provide this quality with increased water resistance at the same price point but who knows.

tl;dr, If you want a sturdy, comfortable, lightweight shoe with good grip then you can’t go wrong with these but if you find yourself walking through a meadow in the fresh morning dew, you may find yourself wishing you’d chosen something else.

I’ve had Merrell shoes for many years as they’re just so comfortable. I like the design of these and they’re great just as everyday footwear. Had the Intercepts three times now and my only gripe would be their longevity. I would generally expect 3 or 4 years out of shoes which cost around a hundred quid but I barely get a year out of these before they look so tatty, they get relegated to ‘gardening shoe’ status. So really comfortable but a little short lived. Merrell are a little stingy so if you take a 10 , you’d best go to an 11 or they’ll pinch!

These shoes are stylish, comfortable and as far as I can tell sturdy too. I bought my usual size (9) and they fit perfectly.

Bought them more for leisure wear than serious walking (for which I have proper boots). They’re comfortable all day long and the dark blue leather tones well with most of my trouserage. Quite heavy, so they can start to feel warm if worn for long periods, but I wouldn’t fault them for that.

Strong soles, don’t seem to slip on wet pavements, smart appearance, what’s not to like?

Good price, and delivery was far faster than expected too 🙂

This is like my third or fourth time buying these particular shoes. I had decided on my last purchase to buy something different which was a mistake as nothing compares to these shoes. Fit like a glove straight from the box. Was out for a good hike the very next day and no problems at all.

I’ve been wearing Merrells for many many years and I love the fit and styles.

This is my 3rd Intercept shoe and one of my fav designs. Though I’ve noticed as the years have passed, the production quality has slipped as they’ve become more commercialised/mass produced. Still a very good solid grippy shoe. Has very good arch support and laces up very quickly and securely.

I would recommend that for this model shoe, you get half a size bigger as the Intercepts tend to be on the smaller side when compared to other Merrell models. Overall a very good shoe and I wouldn’t have just brought my 3rd pair after wearing out my other 2 if I didn’t like the style and fit!

Really nice colour, great, easy-to-wear regular walking shoe which look good and last well (after a few weeks wearing in). They were a slightly tighter fit than I was expecting, but I’m pretty sure they’ll be fine after a few short walks to wear them in. My previous pair (exactly the same size) were a perfect fit from day 1. I’m just nervous of trying to go up a size in case a bigger size would be too loose.

Bought as a present for my Son. I already own a pair and we think they are great. We both wear them as casual shoes, as we prefer boots for serious hiking/walking and these make for comfortable casual shoes. We treat them with Dubbin regularly, which will keep the leather subtle and make them last longer .

Really like these. They are a fairly slim fit and I did go 1/2 a size up as others have recommended. They’re semi waterproof and fine for wet muddy walks.

I have 3 pairs of Merrels all very comfortable for many hours walking. I had to return the first pair of these as the 11 was a little tight across my toes. So went with 11.5 this fits perfectly.

Some other reviews mention them being a bit slippery in the wet, I have to agree with them. If they wer not so comfortable I may have returned them because on wet pavement they can be rediculously slippery.

  26. Jorja6758e says:

good looking, comfortable, appear to be well made, I always go a half a size bigger when ordering Merrell’s, with this style I needed a full size larger, so UK 11.5 in most other makes of shoe equates to a 12.5 in these, ordered at 12 were too small. so from my experience i would order at least half a size up, other than that very pleased with them.

After reading other users views about Merrell smaller sizes, I bought a half size bigger. They only just fit, and I am hoping that some use will stretch them to a comfortable size. Apart from this, a good quality attractive shoe which will no doubt last. me some time

I am normally a size 12, so after reading other reviews I ordered size 12 and a half and they only just fit, they are slightly tight on one foot. I would recommend getting 1 size bigger than your normal size, especially if you are wearing walking socks.

From previous experience I knew that these merrell intercepts unlike my other merrells’ run on the trim side. So for me, as normal I ordered a half size larger and it fits fine for normal street wear. This specific model I think have original colours, a little darker in reality, than in the photos tho. In conclusion an excellent set of trail approach shoes, it’s my fourth pair!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI’ve had Merrell’s before & was really looking forward to receiving these as I had fond memories of them.
They are a well-made shoe with great grip BUT…

They are much too small & seems that Merrell have goofed on their sizing expectations. I bought UK 12’s, which is a US 13. However, when they arrived while it showed as a UK 12, the US size was just 12.5. US sizes being 1 size bigger for men’s shoes, this meant that they are really only a UK 11.5, which is not going to work.

So be prepared for this, I’d suggest ordering a full shoe size bigger here, or better yet, actually go into a store that stocks them & try them on in person before purchasing from the stockist with the best price for you. This is sadly one of the burdens of internet purchasing but it can’t be helped.
Luckily they DO have a size 13, so that’s been ordered. Will let you know how that works out too.

UPDATE: I sent the 12’s back today for a full refund & after ordering the 13’s yesterday, they also arrived today on Prime.
The 13’s are much, much, MUCH better. So bottom line is, if in doubt, then go a half to a full size bigger than usual, depending on what socks you usually wear & the intended purpose. A+
