There’s not much i haven’t loved about this model, the performance has been fantastic straight out of the box. Super smooth refresh rate, handles everything I’ve thrown at it from 3D software and rendering, video production, and gaming. The laptop feels sturdy with an aluminium lip, and the keys are honestly a joy to type on.

In comparison with the equivalent Asus, the cooling is much better as I’ve personally found with idle temps sitting at around 45 degrees C, compared with the Scar 15 at around 55 degrees idle temp. With the MaxBoost fan option, you can expect temps to drop significantly at the expense of noise. From practical use in Doom Eternal (Max settings, no raytracing) without MaxBoost I could expect temps of around 90 at full tilt, with MaxBoost enabled the temps dropped to around 78 degrees C. However if this is a feature you might wanna use often, you (and anyone around you) might wanna grab a good pair of noise canceling headphones.

The Steelseries GG and MSI Aurora custom keyboard lighting software is a massive step beyond the Asus ROG software and it’s functionality. Although the customization for general effects is present in Asus’ software, the interface leaves much to be desired, whereas the Steelseries software feels much more user friendly, with a robust selection of presets, per lighting keys, and lightbar effects.

The amount of USB-A inputs at 3 is pretty much standard within the gaming laptop market, but there are two USB-C inputs, with one doubling as a Thunderbolt input for an external GPU. One big advantage (for any videographers or photographers) is the included SD card slot

My biggest complaint about this laptop doesn’t come from the hardware or the build, but from the included MSI Center software and its ability to be extremely annoying, requiring a scroll through the T&C every hard boot. I’m sure this can be sorted out somehow, but for now it’s a bit of a pain.

Finally, as this is the second MSI gaming laptop I’ve owned, the first fought strong for a good 5 years until I lost it, I can strongly recommend the brand and this lineup of models. Does what you’d expect, and much more

Great gaming laptop for the money! All modern games run at maximum settings.

The GE66 (12700H, 3070ti) scores over 26,000 in Fire Strike (1080p) and is great for AAA gaming away from the home (hotel stays etc). The only downside is the short battery time when using the 3070ti. Dishonored 2 (at max graphic settings) gives me just 1hour 10mins at 30fps (the laptop automatically caps the framerate when on battery but you can probably override this – resulting in even less battery time*) and plugging in the laptop for 60fps+ causes the fans to ramp up which could be annoying to someone sitting near you on a train. But otherwise the GE66 is great for gaming!

*you could probably improve battery life by switching the display refresh rate from 360hz to just 60 but so far I haven’t tried this to verify it.
