Firstly you need to know we live in a bungalow with low hot water pressure to our en suite. Secondly, You need to read the instructions because this pump has to be fitted with a non return valve otherwise the column of water it has lifted returns to the immersion heater and it’s troublesome getting it back again. The first non return valve fitted had a plastic spring loaded gate and cost 10. It failed after a few days. The second was all brass, cost 20 and its still working after a month. The pump is noisy and despite being in the loft space you can hear it when you run the water.
However it does the job and improves the water pressure sufficiently for our power shower to work effectively. It was competitively priced and I would recommend it when fitted correctly.

You will need two 1/2 inch tap connectors, as in the ones that screw directly in and have a pipe of hose bonded on. Most situations will be for two flexi pipes 15mm x 1/2 tap connector, or for larger pipe systems 22mm x 1/2 tap connector.

That said, and because It was unclear what I needed before I could see it; I used two speedfit 15mm x 1/2 straights and then another two speedfit 15mm x 1/2 to plumb into a standard mixer shower.

If you have a dribble before fitting this, don’t expect the auto switch to work (if you have the auto switch with the arrow pointing up then you can unscrew the housing and cut out the resistance spring, this worked for me), the pressure is too low. For my shower, I just wired the power to an existing pull cord from my previous cold fed (mains water supply) power shower and use that to switch it on and off.

The pump comes with an inlet of 3/4 inch thread and a solid metal reducer to bring it down to a standard 1/2 inch thread tap connector. The outlet has 1/2 inch thread with or without the auto switch. I left it fixed on as it makes for more of a solid hold.

If you go with flexi pipe then you’re going to want to mount the pump on some sound absorbing surface as it weighs the same as a brick. If you go with 15mm plastic of copper pipes. The pipe work will hold it steady if you rest it on the tank, floor or surface.

It also comes with rubber rings to seal the pump pipe work together. A quarter turn past hand tight is sufficient. You can feel the resistance so don’t over do it and I would recommend not using any kind of sealant or tape as this will add unwanted strain on the bolts and cause them to break, as I’ve read in other reviews.

Noise level is the same as a cheap noisy power shower, definitely disturbs the peace but not enough to get your neighbours complaining.

Final note if you operate the pump manually, turn it off within a few minutes so as not to overheat the motor or fry the internal electrics. I have seen other reviews complaining about this and it’s simply logical not to stress the motor by pumping water to a dead end.

I bought this pump about a year ago expecting it to be a temporary fix to low pressure in my shower. Since then I’ve never had to consider replacing it. It still works perfectly after a year of daily showers and the operation is quiet and powerful.

Fairly easy to fit using flexible hoses. Not at all noisy. Produces a nice steady boost to the flow of my hot water.

Very easy to fit standard UK tape connectors mate to the pump, do it up just over hand tight and you will be leak free
Flow valve and pump work perfectly and has Increased hot water flow rate from gravity emersion tank by massive amount
Highly recommended works like a 500 shower pump

Didn’t improve flow as much as I would have liked but probably I was expecting too much. Otherwise all good.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI read other reviews about the quality of the brass fittings which I agree with fully. As a plumber I bought some 3/4 female to 15mm fittings to connect the pipework. Wire in the supply to an RCD socket for safety and ensure pipes are cross bonded.
Works great with the hot on the mixer taps at the kitchen sink. I wouldn’t suggest it is suitable to mount on the outlet from the hot water tank supplying lots of taps as it’s not powerful enough. A one tap pump.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’ve seen a few varying reports on this pump but could afford the relatively cheap cost to try it.

I am not a professional plumber but spent quite a long time on pipe fittings and have some technical training on pumps and pipework of all sizes.

My household installation is conventional hot water tank with header tank in the loft. I want to install this pump under the bath (yes that is permitted with correct electrical protection) to feed a mixer tap shower. The pipe run between hot water tank and bathroom is 3m of 1/2″ steel pipe – considered to be equivalent to 15mm copper. Changing that pipe to 22mm copper (today’s standard and would give higher flow to the pump) was a task I did not want to do – carpets and floorboards to be lifted etc. Most higher capacity / higher pressure pumps state that 15mm pipe on the intake must not exceed 2m and usually includes the requirement for a Sussex valve (look it up) to be installed at the cylinder. Installing a Sussex valve is another task I did not want to do and a higher capacity pump might make that “essential” rather than just technically correct.
My incoming main is relatively low pressure only delivering 12l/m at the header tank; the whole area is a problem not just my house, with little over 1 bar feed so I must be careful not to empty the header tank faster than it can fill.

So what have I ended up with. The pump is 2.7m below the bottom of the header tank. The shower head is 2.2m above the pump so 0.5m below the header.
Testing the pump with an open 15mm pipe at the shower head height gives a flow of 8.5l/min. Most modern shower heads require 10l/min minimum and 1 bar pressure. So it wont be perfect but it will be acceptable but do not expect this to supply adequate flow and pressure for a very large shower head.

Fittings – I’ve seen a few comments about these that I don’t understand. The fittings on my pump at the pump housing are conventional UK 3/4 tap / flange. The pump comes with adaptors to reduce that to conventional 1/2 tap / flange fittings. The sealing is by rubber washers but they are used in 99% of all UK tap and appliance flexible connectors so is entirely conventional. My experience of these is that they only leak if under or over tightened. Amateurs often overtighten these. Hand tight plus 1/4 turn with pump pliers is what I always use.

The pressure switch fitting to the pump does seem unconventional. It is left hand thread but the correct fitting and nut is supplied for that. the washer sealing this appears to be a small nylon washer that does make me a little nervous but if you are concerned wrap the fitting with PTFE or Loctite 55.

If it all fails and the shower is useless it is relatively easy to increase the size of the pump but that imports the need to change the feed between hot water cylinder and the bathroom and to fit a Sussex valve to the tank. These are two jobs that will be seriously disruptive and damaging to parts of the house that had quite a lot of money spent only a few years ago – lesson do the bathroom first!!! Though, of course, with my low incoming pressure the cold water feed may not keep up with the flow of a larger pump!

Summary – if you know your pumps it works as described, though that might not be good enough for your application, surprisingly quiet and almost silent when fitted with a rubber pad between it and floor and simple to install.

Installed by a tradesman, and all seemed well, until 18 months later, with moderate use, the pump failed to enhance the flow of the hot water to the kitchen sink! I should, perhaps, have ventured to change the type/make of pump as l have no confidence the replacement will last any longer, but having modified the kitchen units previously to accommodate this unit, l didnt feel it was appropriate mid winter to modify for a different unit. So l am stuck with a unit that will fail in a similar timescale

I bought this pump to fix a problem with poor flow in a central heating system. One radiator, in particular, would not get warm. After adding the pump, the problem was solved, but I did need to buy extra adaptors to match it to the 15mm pipes. My only negative comment is that the motor is noisier than expected, but not too bad.

I bought this product to boost the pressure in my shower. I fitted it easily but when I tested it the pump would only run in manual mode and not automatic. However, I contacted the seller and was sent a replacement pressure switch the very next day with no hassle at all. With the replacement switch all is now working extremely well. So I am really pleased with the pump and also the great customer service.

Needed to increase pressure of hot tap at kitchen sink. This pump seemed a cost effective option so I bought one!
Not too complicated to fit, even for a non plumber!
Had a problem with the auto switch, had to start pump manually, then flick over to auto. Stopped as soon as tap turned off, as it should. Smart Parts immediately sent a replacement part, which cured the problem. This review is purely to highlight customer service at its very best. Smart Parts deserve maximum credit & I can’t thank them enough!!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWas bought to resolve the common problem of living in a Bungalow and having a gravity fed hot water tank.
Original hot water tap was fine and flow was as expected but when installing a modern monobloc mixer tap the hot water turned into a dribble unlike the cold water (which is obviously mains pressure)
Bought this pump to overcome the issue and after plumbing it in started to run into issues. The flow sensor had not been assembled correctly to the point it was not water tight and began leaking (albeit very slowly) between the plastic top housing and the brass base. Second the fittings are imperial which means you probably will have to visit a plumbers store or B&Q to source some compatible adapters as in my case to the 15mm undersink pipework.
Third you will need some fibre washers and PTFE tape to double ensure water tightness as the supplied fittings will leak (unless you are extremely lucky first time!)
Ok, so overall after some trial and error and reconnecting of the connections to fix the slight leaks and the fact that supplier did provide me with a replacement Flow sensor, I now have a fully functional pump giving me (and a happy Wife) a forceful flow of hot water that is well deserved after the effort of plumbing it all in.
I would recommend this product as the pump itself is good but I will say to minimise the hum of the pump motor, I would use flexi hose to the pump from source and to the tap. To be fair, its not that loud as its hidden under the sink along with all the rest of the kitchen spoils but I could see some people expecting it to be whisper quiet.
Overall I am satisfied with it and kudos to the supplier for prompt replacement of the Flow sensor. I just hope now that over time it lasts as long as the tap that caused the need for it!

BIT OF PRIMING AT FIRTS but once the water gets to the necessary parts there is not stopping it.
I am using this to extract water from a 100l plastic tank into my kitchen.

After four other pumps (all returned) this pump it’s just perfect for the little job I need it to do at my home brewery.

Customer services: I DIDN’T NEED CUSTOMER SERVICES! This is an easy to install mini pump.

Noise: EXPECT SOME BUT NOT to the point of driving me mad, OR WAKE UP THE BABY.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersAfter searching for ages and trying to find different solutions I stumbled across this beauty. I have a gravity fed power shower installed in a bath. I got told by several people including 2 different plumbers that I would have to buy a big 3.5 bar or more pump and pressureise the whole system at the boiler tank. This is not true, so I decided to do the job myself. I simply turned off the water, disconnected the hot water pipe under the bath, put flexy piping from the hot water pipe into the inlet side , put flexy pipe into outlet side and the other bit of hot pipe that I had disconnected, plugged in and it’s perfect. Took about two hours only because I had to go up to hardware to get the right fittings and the flexy pipe, if you knew what you were at and had more room to work with than I did you’d do it in 20 minutes. It also has an idle mode , so I have it plugged in and on all the time but it only starts when the water is turned on. It has made a shower go from a dribble to better than my electric shower for around 50 instead of the 350 pump plus plumber fees I would have had to pay.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWith its stainless steel cover and brass pump casing, this unit should keep its good appearance over the long term. Users have commented on the fragile connection to the flow switch. I agree, but was very careful to avoid damage to it during installation; it’s not hard. The three position switch is very convenient for testing before use, which I did in the garden with a hose connection.

I found some noise emission. I have mounted it in the loft, using several sound-absorbing, vibration-damping mounts. It is suspended from the rafters, NOT supported on the ceiling joists. These precautions result in almost imperceptible noise downstairs, during use. The benefits greatly outweigh the very slight noise disadvantage.

The very small delay between turning on the tap and full pressure pumped delivery, is completely imperceptible to the normal user.

For the technically-minded, our bungalow conventional gravity-fed hot water system with the cold tank in the roof apex, supplied the distant cloakroom and kitchen inadequately with hot water via 1/2 inch copper pipe. A trickle not a gush! The new pump corrects this, providing adequate flow (and of course, faster hot warm-up). Notably, recent new taps fitted, constrict the flow, but the pump has overcome this too. In our case, the bathroom hot water flows were adequate, so are not supplied by the new pump, being connected upstream of it. The net positive suction head (NPSH) of the pump in our situation is insufficient to cause problems. So it does not suck air back into the system. I think the new pump has provided an adequate solution for our bungalow. My wife agrees. The only remaining concern is: will it leak over time? We’ve placed a plastic tray under it and so far, there has been not a spot of moisture evident. We are hoping for a life comparable to that of our shower pump (different circuit) which has two carbon seals and has lasted 20 years; it is still going strong.

    Only 4 stars because
Unlucky for me, it arrived with a broken fixing bracket and I had to create a cradle to mount it on the wall behind the shower.
I abandoned the brass connector that came with it in favour of a flexihose (3/4″ BSP I think – same as washing machine inlet hose) because it didn’t seem strong to me.
Otherwise it works with the shower and prevents the user getting scolded when a local toilet is flushed or taps run downstairs.
The pressure switch means it turns itself off when the shower is not in use, essentially it’s as easy an install as anything can be.

Golden Review Award: 44 From Our UsersSo far:

These are all the positive comments:
    1) Item arrived next day as stated.
    2) Great size (small) good for under kitchen sink location.
    3) Easy to fit together.
    4) Works a treat and has boosted my hot water feed.

I have a couple of negative comments:
    1) Contacted the seller by phone to make sure this was okay for hot water. I was told to drop them an email and they would ask the supplier. I said it stated on the Amazon site that the product was good for hot water up to 80C but the lady would not commit to it and re-stated that I email them for the supplier’s answer. I didn’t bother based on the positive feedback from buyers on the Amazon site.
    2) Poor instruction manual of how to fit it together, I was okay but if you have no plumbing knowledge you may not be able to do it. I checked this with a friend who came over, looked at all the pieces, and didn’t have a clue. I suggest to the supplier/manufacturer to include a better manual with diagrams of fitting.

So far working fine and doing the job I had expected it to do.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersExcellent Pump. Before purchasing I asked the question as to how much noise the pump made, how many decibels. Previous customers reported that it was very quiet when installed under a sink. The supplier gave it as 75db and when I received the pump the manual stated 75db.
I am pleased to confirm that now it is installed the level reading I am getting is approximately 54db with the meter about 500mm from the pump inside the sink unit and 47db outside the sink unit with the door closed which is approximately quite to medium conversation. Both readings are quitter than the washing machine which is from a high quality German Manufacturer. This could vary subject to installation, but as was advised, in my installation the pump is screwed to the block wall at the back of the sink unit and the inlet connection is a 500mm flexible pipe with the outlet being the flexible pipe from the washing machine.

Trust this will be of help to new customers.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI installed this to boost the hot water to hand basins and kitchen sink and it did the job nicely. (I have a more powerful hot and cold pump for the shower). I could do with a bit more power for the kitchen sink since this has a demanding tap, but it is adequate and certainly better. The pressure form the other taps is very good. It does make a high pitched whine, but I didn’t expect it to be perfectly quiet. I have been able to reduce the sound by placing it behind a baffle and have used flexible connector hoses. I have also plugged it in via a timer, so that the motor doesn’t start when used during the night so as not to disturb anyone – it wouldn’t wake anyone though. It wasn’t clear to me in the instructions that the flow switch is mounted on the downstream end, but worked it out. I have mounted it vertically with the motor at the top and find that the motor weight causes it to lean out slightly at the top even though the bracket is firmly mounted on the wall. I am tempted to add a strap to hold it in, but haven’t done that yet. I didn’t use the plumbing adaptor at the inlet end.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersAfter buying an IKEA mono-block kitchen tap the flow of our kitchen hot water became poor. Before buying the tap I checked our hot and cold pressures. The incoming main was 2.5 bar and our gravity hot water 1.2 bar. The tap description said 1 bar minimum required. But whilst the cold remained acceptable, the hot dropped dramatically. The listing indicated a pressure boost of 0.8 to 1.0 bar which I thought would be enough. After fitting I measured the flow rate (the IKEA tap wouldn’t accept the pressure tester). The cold main filled a two litre jug in 20 seconds. Happily, this pump delivered the same on the hot, and there was a noticeable increase in the speed with which the ‘dead leg’ of cold in the pipes cleared and hot flowed. This made the tap usable and meant we could now live with it and not have to return it to IKEA. In addition, as the pump is fitted in a pantry off the kitchen it’s reasonably quiet when running. If fitted in the same room, even though it’s quite for a pump, you will notice it running.

There are a couple of anomalies. The pump is fitted with BSP male connectors, (3/4 inch and 1/2 inch) so adapters are needed to connect it to pipework. Also, if you have other taps on the circuit, you must fit a non-return valve (a check valve) on the pumps output, otherwise the pump may operate when you open one of the other taps. Also, you can’t alter the direction of flow or the mounting bracket. This meant that instead of our hot going straight in one side and out the other, the hot input loops behind the pump to the input connector and the hot output loops behind the pump to the tap.

Otherwise it’s easy to fit and takes up little space.

Golden Review Award: 51 From Our UsersWhen a I replumbed 2013 after buying our house – a 1947 bungalow with a second floor added in the roof in 1992 – tank pressure was necessarily low ((tank only possibly just above the top ceiling) and practical considerations meant pipe runs to a newly fitted bathroom and especially the ditto conservatory kitchen were long, making for incredibly inconveniently slow hot water flow – both for use and for the time it took for the hot water to actually come through. Then somebody suggested a pump and I spotted this one, fitted it just after the hot cylinder to drive the hot water for the whole house and it has been a total transformation, working first time. The only slight problem has been that the pump can very occasionally start “hunting” rather than switch straight off when a tap goes off – apparently because of residual minor air pockets – running the tap for a few seconds again usually stops the effect immediatly (and always eventually.) I fitted the pump in an auxilliary valved loop – total cost c. 100 – utterly worth it for the transformed convenience!
