Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI bought this backpack after having used a high sierra hiking backpack from Costco for years. It wasn't until I went into REI to get properly measured that I'd realized I was using an improperly fitted backpack and found this. The Osprey tempest is a women's cut hiking backpack. I never realized how well a properly fitted pack would be until I got this. For reference I am 5'2" with a torso length of 14 inches so I bought the XS size. The backpack is very comfy and lightweight. It's easy to adjust the straps to fit snugly against my body. I will say I have always loved Osprey. They make really high quality backpacks and are backed by warranty in case there's issues. To be fair though, my other Osprey I've had for YEARS and never felt the need to contact them for problems. The backpack does have a waist strap with pockets which kind of fit my Samsung S21 but honestly it barely fits in there. It's more of a struggle tj try to tuck it in there but it's doable. The bladder pocket as many others have noted is tight, but it's not necessarily unusable. I was able to fit a 2L Hydrapak bladder in with some effort. I think you're best bet would be to put the bladder in first before you start packing your bag. There's a nice helmet lock on the outside of the pack which frankly I don't use much except to attach my hat if I bring one hiking. All in all I would say this backpack is fantastic if you want a light, small backpack for a day hike. It's not meant for backpacking as the XS is only 18L but it will definitely fit all your essentials.

This pack has been brilliant for my wife who is small, 5 ft, osprey does an excellent job of sizing packs. Lots of load and attach options and wife finds very comfortable. Great as day pack, even support water bladder. Not as as roomy as single sack like a kanken, but carries weight much more comfortably

    Great pack!
Really pleased with this pack. Bought it at a decent price and was able to get the size (XS/S) I was after when other retailers weren’t stocking this size. So much room for gear, great for a day hike and love all the features.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI like how the features are super functional . It was comfortable and fit everything I needed. I took it on several day hikes in the alps where I needed changes of clothes and jackets

Great hiking bag with correct sizing
I love the bag, but I bought the XS/S based off the Osprey sizing guide on the Osprey site and was too small. I’m 5 feet 0 inches, 130 lbs. I also bought the M/L size and it was a better fit. It says the sizing is based off your height but I think it does matter how petite you are. For me personally the shoulder straps felt a little too snug around on either side of my neck and around the shoulders. I will be returning the XS/S and keeping the M/L.
With that said, I absolutely recommend and love the Tempest 20. I love that it has two places for trekking poles, a front mesh pocket, side pockets, and my 3 litter water reservoir fits.

Amazing air scape back padding to cool down the body during hiking and 20L is suitable for dayhike. I like their waist belt which some other models doesn’t have with 20L! Price often fluctuate in Amazon thus can monitor the pricing before buying.

Very comfortable and great back suppo
I’m pleased with my purchase. I did a lot of research before I got this one and I saw it in person in a shop on Piccadilly Street. It can take a lot but doesn’t feel heavy. The waist belt support is key for its reliability and not worrying when trekking on more extreme/ off road terrain. I used it in Norway so definitely not a walk in the park sort of hike!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersGreat For Backs
Rucksacks with a hip belt stops putting the weight on your shoulders which then affects your back. I have bigger rucksacks with this design – 30L not Osprey only because a Ladies Osprey wasn’t available & a 24L Osprey but there’s little point wearing a larger rucksack than needed. This Osprey 20 isn’t just about the hip belt but the way it is constructed. Also the way the back is even in the UK’s major heatwave my T-shirt hasn’t got soaked. Yes it is more expensive than other makes but worth the cost. I was wearing this with a bad back and it worked well.

Great backpack, missing a 'how to guide'
Great backpack, just wish it came with an instruction manual, still discovering secret pockets and how best to adjust it to suit my frame!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersGood pack, but pole storage not good. Needs a rain cover.
Good little pack. I used it for 10 consecutive days hiking the Highlands. Comfortable. Pockets on waistband good size and useful. Side pockets are big enough for larger bottles, and you can grab your bottle on the go. Mesh pocket on back useful for wet rain gear etc. The ‘airscape’ back – they have yet to invent the perfect pack that will not give you a sweaty back if you’re working hard enough…that said, this is probably as good as it gets.
Downsides – the pole storage is stupid. In theory a good idea, but practically its very uncomfortable and annoying. The back mesh pocket is however big enough for my Z folding poles – I just push it in there (I can grab the poles in the back mesh pocket when walking but need to stop to put them back in). This pack does not come with a rain cover, it needs one – even in a drizzle inside was wet. (I have had more waterproof packs). But besides those two downsides, overall its a comfortable pack and I will continue to use.

    Lighter than you think
I tried a number of rucksacks and this was the best one for me. It sits nicely on your hips which makes carrying it easier and the adjustable straps work well. I would consider getting the water pack as the bottle holder us just slightly out of reach when you are walking. Highly recommend this

    Does the job
Sturdy, fits quite a lot of stuff (although I might upgrade to a larger one to have space for a coat – I’m using this to run-commute and this is not big enough to fit a big coat as well, obviously)

The fit is great as well!

This pack is designed for women and it is absolutely brilliant. A perfect fit with nice comfortable straps and non sweaty back. I carried good and drinks up Snowden and hardly noticed I had the pack on my back. Plenty of room for my jacket and spare socks too

She can carry all of my stuff for me on hikes, it’s a huge load off my back.
Jokes aside she uses this bag for everything and genuinely likes it.

Modified review – chest straps are adjustable!

The trekking pole loop is annoying if no poles.

Good Quality Materials, Well Made and Sturdy, with pockets of different sizes throughout backpack.
Size of 20L backpack is not too large or bulky, yet can pack lots of items easily into the pockets and the different sections. Good for a ‘day out’.
Comfortable to wear – with adjustable chest and hip belts with buckles to fine tune the fitting. Has a small device on backpack that enables a cycling helmet to be attached – very useful if don’t want to be holding a cycling helmet in hands, and means there is no need to try and stuff a helmet into the backpack itself, as it can be fitted securely outside.
Just a shame this particular backpack doesn’t have an integrated rain cover.

    Another great pack from Osprey.
Another quality pack from Osprey. Bought to replace a very worn earlier version. I think the zips are slightly sturdier on this version. I love the cycle helmet clip, I’m glad they retained this. Little touches like the keyring clip inside, and the inbuilt safety whistle are a great idea. You don’t get any secure side pockets on this, but I wasn’t expecting that. There is a water pouch pocket, I don’t use it for that, it’s just a useful (zipped) pocket. The reflective strips show up well. Some will say that Osprey are a dear do, but the fit and quality is for me, well worth it.
