Nephew loves it can’t get him out of his bedroom
a great product if you want to work from home or if you spend long time in front of the computer.
Great screen, probably would have got it cheaper if I’d waited for a sale. Good value when on sale, OK value otherwise.
Perfect for my Dyspraxic, ADHD brain.
Also great when investigating large timelines.
Note: the Philips utility seems a bit pointless as the fancy zones feature is actually just the Microsoft Powertoys utility, which is official and available for free.
This monitor screen is rather impressive providing a great deal of screen space to work with versions windows side by side. It is my first time using an ultra wide moving from a duel screen setup I have to say it does a great job in providing the space in a flexible way as you can put windows side by side or just extend one and get a wider view which is great. Also the hub in this is truly fantastic as I can plug in everything into the monitor and just use one usb-c cable to my laptop to provide everything. It works seamlessly with my Mac, I believe although expensive it is worth it if you do need additional screen space and a usb-c hub
Likes:
– great amount of screen for the price
– good quality and definitely does not feel cheap or flimsy.
Dislikes:
– could be a brighter
– could perform better for entertainment, screen doesn’t have that amazing “pop”
Excellent quality monitor, so glad I bought this, looks amazing & makes my work so much easie
Great picture and camera so easy to do all those video calls. A real joy to use and so much more productive with it. will be making this our new office standard and for home as well
I’m not buying to play games, but – For me to say is this is a great monitor to use for working from home. USB-C connection great combination charging and picture in one cable for your laptop. And HDMI is an extra bonus connection to your PC or Mac mini. However, small issue with connection usb-c cable (saying: pc not charging?) but it does, just annoying! Overall, 4 stars from me as is great monitor to work.
The screen is really well made. All the elements are of a high standard. Great camera, sound and screen. Teams and Zoom calls are really slick.
Outrageous amounts of screen. Ideally, it would have been more curved as the far left and right end up at quite an angle.
I use Fancy Zones (part of Microsoft’s Power Toys) to have 4 docking zones. Works great.
Excellent also for having apps stretched over the middle half whilst still having other apps on each edge.
Personally, I also have other monitors for Slack, Outlook, WhatsApp just to keep them right out the way.
Windows Hello works great but I don’t use the rubbish webcam.
I have 2 minor niggles and one of them might be MacOS related… sometimes the USB-C hub doesn’t seem to work and the Mac doesn’t recognise the USB devices connected to the monitor. Everything else is fine, just the USB devices. Have to unplug and plug in again for them to work. A minor niggle.
The second is that there is no USB-C out from the monitor. On a MacBook Pro with 4x USB-C ports this isn’t an issue as you can just keep on using the 3 free on the MBP. On a MacBook with 1x USB-C port and various USB-C accessories, this is a nuisance. I can’t have my external HDD plugged in at the same time as the monitor without finding a USB-A -> USB-C converter and plugging it into the monitor. Stupid. There’s no excuse for not having at least one USB-C output.
Overall I like it a lot and wouldn’t give it up now I’ve been using it a few weeks.
I’m an app developer who often needs three windows open, a coding window, a reference window, and an emulator and this monitor is so impressive I just wish I’d have done it sooner.
I will say, the panel quality isn’t quite as high as my previous Dell, but after an hour or so, I really can’t tell the difference, I’ve gotten used to it, and for the price, it’s well worth it, especially when you combine it with the fact that you can have a one-cable solution into a compatible device thereby bypassing the need for a 200+ Thunderbolt hub.
Camera is awful compared to a 30 Aukey camera, but it is definitely passable.
I managed to pick this up via Amazon Warehhouse deals to save a further ~100, but even at the full price I wouldn’t hesitate
Screen feels sturdy, Plugged into my work laptop and straight away the laptop defaulted to the full resolution(only 60HZ refresh even using display port). i am able to have six windows open at a time. Text is sharp and easy to read.
Thought it would take time to get used to the curve but as i had my two previous monitors slightly angled so it was easy to adjust.
Lastly, the fact that this monitor has height adjustment, swivels and tilts means you can get the perfect viewing position.
Otherwise the picture quality is good and has a fantastic contrast ratio. Built in speakers are terrible as it to be expected and to be honest I’d rather monitor manufacturers would just omit them saving cost and space!
I have down sized to it from a full 4K monitor, which proved just too big to work with, and since I ran the 4K at 125% and can run this 3440×1440 at 100% I haven’t lost must screen height.
My one gripe is that it came with incorrect power cables for the UK. It came with a UK plug/C13/kettle lead, but that is not what the monitor uses. It has a small power pack like laptops, and that requires a three circle ‘clover-leaf-connector. That cable was supplied, but with a northern european 2 pin plug.
Amazon has refunded me the cost of a UK to European converter plug which I will use.
Thankfully the outgoing 4K monitor had the required UK/clover-leaf, so at least I was able to power up the monitor until the converter plug arrives!
This arrived with a fault which always takes the edge of the experience!
It was sorted quite quickly and it’s a good monitor for gaming. I miss the extra height available on a standard monitor for general monitor work
Final point the webcam does work as windows hello which is good. Less good – the quality as a webcam is pretty poor.
Very happy with it. I don’t play computer games so I can’t comment on that. Recommended!
Let’s get this clear, it’s not a gaming monitor with high refresh rates and all the trapping of those high end superwide gamers. However for the likes of me that play games occasionally for fun it works well. I play games like Borderlands 3 regularly at full screen size and it is fine, even though my Graphics card is just a GTX 2070 super.
For most of the time I have been using this to work, and also a little bit of programming for fun. Initially it feels a bit weird having so much screen and the max button filling the whole thing. I tried the philips software initially but did not like it. I then used DisplayFusion that worked well allowing you to setup virtual screens you can maximise into. Now however I just use Microsoft PowerToys and the FancyZones app. I drag the window and hold the right mouse button to dock into one of the zones. This makes me super flexible on where windows are. One recent thing I found was TaskbarX, this locates the Taskbar icons in the middle of the taskbar, removing the need to constantly swivel your neck to the left to find things.
I have powered my work HP Elite X2 device directly from the USBC adding this as an additional screen to the laptop. My main machine uses DisplayPort which works well and I have in the past run a RaspberryPi directly from the USB ports with no issues. The screen has been reliable, has all the pixels working properly and the pop up camera has both been giving me access to my computer and working double time through Covid. Not a perfect picture but more than adequate for video conferencing.
The only thing that frustrates me about the screen is that it gives the impression you can divide the display into two 2560×1440 screens being fed from different devices. This is not quite the case. PBP mode does split the screens however it scales the contents such that you end up with two 5120×1440 screens scaled down to fit a 2560×1440 letterbox window, meaning you really cannot read the screens well. I’ve not found any way to resolve this despite occasionally having another go. In truth this would not make me give up this monitor at all! I have not for a moment regretted my decision to buy this. It was a good balance of cost and performance and has been invaluable over the last 6 months trapped at home.
My biggest gripe is the slight shimmer in the bottom-right corner that remains for a few minutes after you switch on the device. Quite distracting and I’m always thinking I’ll have to return the panel. An additional gripe is the fact that, despite advertised, mine did not come with a USB 3.0 A-male to B-male cable. I just couldn’t be bothered after setting it up so I attached a USB 2.0 A-to-B I had lying around, since the purpose was to connect keyboard, mouse.
All in all it’s the most affordable and quality 3440×1440 monitor on the market.
Back to this Philips screen – it really is excellent, far better than the dual screen setup I used before.
I’m not a gamer so I can’t say anything about that aspect but I do work on it for long hours and it’s improved my ability to deal with large amounts of data in Excel and other tools.
Well worth the money.
Finally I found this brilliant monitor that’s value for money and they keep reducing the price. I bought it for 840 now its 770!! It is great monitor and I strongly recommend it. The Smart Control isn’t perfect but it works for most of the software. I use VSCode and Python Spyder a lot to code but they they dont fit in Smart Control.
The summary is if you are looking to use this office productivity and programming this is a great monitor. I’m not sure if its perfect for gaming or not as I did not test it!!
I’m not a gamer so cannot speak to its use for that, or for photography or video editing, but for office use it’s great.
Helpful that it works as a USB C dock too so just one cable allows me to power my work laptop as well as get picture and audio out.
The stand is decent; solid and not to obtrusive. I might buy a monitor arm just for neatness…
Included are a USB C, DisplayPort, and HDMI cables so no need to buy extra bits.
The one major failing is that the monitor comes with a European power plug, not a UK one!
Fortunately I had a suitable adaptor in the house, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to use the display when it arrived! Not sure if this is a one off or the norm.
I don’t do much gaming any more so mainly use it for media and productivity.
And I’m not an expert on screens but I can say I’m really happy with this one.
It’s super bright and the whites are super whitey white (the previous 300 monitor had very yellowy off colour whites that wouldn’t calibrate).
So that’s about it for my limited expertise on screen quality. I’m totally happy with it.
On the con side.
It’s nice that it comes with two speakers but they sound like absolute ass. My 20 Anker bluetooth/mini jack sounds way better so I turned off the monitor speakers and use that instead.
Also, I did see a YouTube review that showed the screw holes in the plastic back were no aligned with the inner metal chassis screw holes but I assumed they would be fixed on my unit. As you can see by the attached picture, they were not. I guess a power drill could solve that by just widening the holes in the plastic but it’s pretty shocking that a massive company like Philips can let that one get by.
So right now the monitor is just hanging on the stand by the two forks that slide in before it is supposed to be screwed in place.
I haven’t tested the web cam yet, reviews say it’s rubbish but I won’t be using it much.
Speaking of fit and finish, the rest of the monitor is beautiful. Stand is great and solid. But the box it came in needs a redesign.
As you can see from the picture I attached, they put the picture of the monitor on the side of the box implying the bottom is the top. I didn’t read the large warning to open it from the other side as one just assumes you open any box from the top. If it needs to be opened from the other side then they should print the picture the other way around (or package it the other way round inside).
Despite those minor issues though it’s a great monitor and 200 cheaper than the Samsung or Dell equivalent.
For hardcore gamers the screen resolution isn’t as vibrant as other options.
