This is my second power probe 3. I have used them almost every day In my line of work. Great product, reliable and accurate. Considering how much I used the first one, it lasted a long time. This is the second one I've owned. The first one worked so great it grew legs and walked away. A great tool for electrical troubleshooting. I still use a dvom for certain things like ohm testing and amperage testing but use the power probe 3 for everything else. I've e used it on everything from garbage trucks to electric forklifts, cars, boats and even kids toys. Highly recommend for any serious car guy / mechanic / hobbyist. I used it as soon as I my son recieved it .ac on truck wasn’t working. One test we did was remove the compressor relay and send power to the clutch and it did not work . Incredibly helpful tool on our boa Electrical issues on a boat are common and frequent. A friend brought one of these over to help me troubleshoot a problem I was unable to resolve. He showed me the power probe III before jumping down into the bilge and found the issue within 5 minutes. I bought my own power probe III that evening.
I’m not a “read the manual” person, but to use this tool read what comes with it, and watch a couple videos.
I restore old cars and the Power Probe has proven completely invaluable. I don’t know how I got along without it for so many years. glad I bought this tool but I've wasted quite a bit of time because of the poor documentation and videos. Probably more than I'll ever use the tool. One of the first times I used it I was able to find a problem in the headlight switch I wasn't even aware of. I was able to figure out which of the terminals on the headlight was power and ground and test the light by applying power without having to remove the lamp, so that was cool. If I was a professional mechanic I can see how this would save you a lot of time. As a DIY'r it's nice to have but if you're not using it all the time I'm not sure it's worth it. I bought the probe because I wanted to learn more about auto electrics. I lost all electrical power in my truck once on a busy freeway in socal which was very scary. Since then I've wanted to learn more about electrics. It's a good tool but terrible documentation if you don't know the subject matter and examples already. The videos stink too. Every time I see that guy demonstrate how to go from one mode to another I want to bang my head into a wall. Geez, is that really necessary to go over and over again, sister? If you don't know how to change modes you shouldn't be using the tool. I invested in this power probe after seeing someone using one on YouTube, and it has simplified the electrical diagnosis process so much over a basic volt meter! Just be careful of course, its a much more powerful tool than a basic volt meter and you can really fry something if you send power to the wrong spot, but I’ve used this tool to find shorts, bad connections, and rewire circuits and it’s super helpful. Wow, i don't say that to much but " wow " time have changed. i am a old school mechanic . and with a basic light tester i thought that is all i need it. was i wrong .. with This power probe i can check a lot more sensors easy. I can check E Vap sensors, both vent and purge . With this one step tool, i can check and see if it had a broken(-) and/or (+) at the plug. Just last night i need to check a Wheel speed sensor . as soon i a tested the ground with at the plug . i know there was a broken ground wire i traced that wire and it lead me to the break in the line. saving my self the cost of a wheel speed sensor " $65" Wow, i don’t say that to much but ” wow ” time have changed. i am a old school mechanic . and with a basic light tester i thought that is all i need it. was i wrong .. with This power probe i can check a lot more sensors easy.
