Very easy to set up and use right out of the box. I haven’t tried it with anything other than range balls, but it was very consistent and provided immediate feedback. Wish there was more wedge selections according to the differing degrees of loft. Great practice tool to get your swing speeds and tempo down. Highly recommend compared to other products and at a very good price.

This works very well either on my backyard setup or at the course. It helped me to realize my problem – my swing speed is only 1/2 of the guys on TV! Guess my dreams of going pro are out the window. It really does help with practicing.

The little device works surprisingly well. I have mine mounted on a little tripod for more consistent readings. It has to be directly behind the ball at tee off. Wish it had the ability to record and download data.

This is an excellent little golf analyzer for getting the distance of your clubs, working on speed training and ball striking. What you must do is align the device with your swing path not necessarily the target. So for example if you have an inside out (draw) path it needs to point a little to the right or the numbers will be lower than actual. I would definitely recommend this golf analyzer.

Really like the unit for what it is. But at that level of qualified functionality, the inability to off load the captured info is a glaring shortfall (the 4 instead of 5 star rating). Off loading the shot data to a USB thumb drive would be a minor a cost of additional hardware and processing capability for the unit. Would only need the following data: club, club speed and ball speed to be off loaded for each shot to a text or csv file. Just basic spreadsheet competence would be able to turn that data in to real information one could track for assessing golf swing skill development.

This launch monitor works well. Good value for the money. It’s not 100% accurate but it’s close. It’s not useful for low trajectory shots and shots that are low impact but still, it’s very helpful overall.

The instructions leave a little to be desired, so once you get things figured out and set up properly the little radar unit tells you a story similar to one that comes from a very expensive machine. Handy and small enough that it resides in my golf bag and goes with me when i give a lesson. Helps the student realize when something works and when it doesn’t.

Basic low cost launch monitor with good accuracy. Helps to understand carry vs. total yardage and swing speed.

The one area it fails is with practice swings indoor or outdoor which are off by 15-20 mph.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersGreat value for what you pay.
It reads the speed and distance faster than Swing Caddie SC300i. Like 2 seconds faster.
Compared it to Swing Caddie SC300i and got the same readings, guess both are equally accurate.
The batteries run out fast, so bought rechargeable ones.
Making it rechargeable is the only upgrade the manufacturer should consider.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIt measures swing speed even when not hitting a ball (like for speed training). I’ve taken to a Trackman session and while the club speed was generous at times (or way off occassionally), the ball speed was consistently no more than 1mph different. The carry/total distance are based on calculations, so take them with a grain of salt.

If you’re looking for something to measure club speed for speed training, or measure ball speed (that’s ultimately what really matters), this is a good option.

Bought this to use down the driving range. Seconds to set up, switch it on and you’re ready to go. Measure the swing speed of your club, the ball speed, distance with and without carry and smash factor. Use it anywhere, it’s so portable it’s unreal! Happy I bought it and I used it against a well known thousands of pounds machine and the differences were minimal.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersWhile some launch monitors will apparently give you a speed reading when swinging a stick (based on several Youtube videos posted by golf pros), the new model of the PRGR (HS-130A) requires you to actually hit a real golf ball with a real golf club to provide anywhere close to an accurate reading. When hitting into a net, the distance numbers are way off. Club head speed, smash factor and ball speed may be more accurate, but are probably more reliable when ball flight is not being stopped by a net. Merely swinging a club provided ridiculously low speed readings, but readings were much more realistic when hitting an actual golf ball. These things are important to know PRIOR to making a buy decision. Unfortunately, my decision was made after watching another Youtube video, but prior to reading some of the other reviews on Amazon. Considering the price of this device relative to the competition, one should expect some compromise. The value of this thing is as a tool for monitoring progress when training for improved performance . It will likely deflate your ego, rather than stoke it. If money is no object, you might be happier with one of the more expensive launch monitors that will give you ridiculously high swing speeds while swinging a light stick, or one that will display ball spin, which the PRGR will not do. PROs: Low cost, relative to other launch monitors, unit easily fits in your bag, does not require internet connectivity, software subscriptions, or interface with smart phone or watch. Records data in memory that can be scrolled for later review. CONs: lacks some features of higher priced models, questionable accuracy, must be used on golf course or driving range to get somewhat reliable readings for all metrics displayed. Less useful for indoor practice sessions hitting into a net. Does not interface with any simulators or other devices.

Laid beside a Trackman the results were remarkably similar for less than a 1/10th of the price.
So portable and easy to set up, practice rounds are more fun and useful.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI have been working to improve my game for the last few years. And besides taking lessons, I had considered buying a launch monitor. However, like many people I couldn’t justify spending a large amount of money. When I first saw this unit here on Amazon, I thought it must have been some cheap knock off monitor.

After doing some additional online research I realized that its price is related to the features it offers. It is not a knock off, and it is not cheap junk.

No it does not have many bells or whistles. What it does have is the basic information you need to help improve your swing. By measuring clubhead speed, ball speed, and smash factor, it can give you an excellent indicator of the quality of your golf strike. I have found it exceptionally useful for establishing my distance for each club. And the instant feedback of smash factor has been very helpful.

The only criticism I can make of the unit, is that it seems to miss some of the data a little more often (5-7 times per bucket of balls) than I had expected based on the information expressed in the instruction manual. This could perhaps be a factor of misaligning the unit with my swing direction, or a purely bad swing!

I love this unit. And I strongly recommend this unit if you are looking for basic information, particularly if you have a limited budget!

Works very well on the course, but prime winter use is just to get clubhead speed indoors. Good that it remembers the club you last used and stores (apparently) infinite history! Battery life very good.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersUpdate: April,2022

I have managed to find a placement location where the device is now quite reliable. As noted below, I use it at the range and had some serious issues with its ability to reliably get a reading. I had moved it forward and backwards, up and down and even to the right (away from me) to minimize possible reflections from my body – but nothing was reliable.

What I most recently did, which to me was not intuitive, was to position it horizontally towards me so that it is now located between me and the ball horizontally (no longer directly behind the ball) and at the recommended distance behind me (4 ft, 6 ft seems not to matter too much) and the reliability is now very high – 90%-95%.

I increase my overall rating from a 2 to a 4 based on this reliability but have still left 1 star off because after further use, the distance estimates are not as accurate as I would have hoped. Maybe if one could input iron angles (such as is available on some of the Swing Caddie’s e.g.) that would help tune the distance readings.

However based on my latest data and experience, I would now recommend this device.
    ——————–
When it works it works well. Ease of use is as advertised and accuracy is great for the price.

Where it falls down is in actually getting a reading. I can hit 20 balls at the range with good accuracy getting 18 out of 20 recorded. Then with no changes in club or light it will completely lose the capability and record maybe 5 out of 20 (with proper accuracy). Sometimes it will recover and get back to working properly. Other times I have to turn it off and it only starts working again reliably when I bring it out on a different day.

When it fails it only displays club head speed and usually about 70% of actual speed. So it’s really lost.

New batteries sometimes help, but this happens with batteries that are almost full as well.

Because of this unreliability, I can’t recommend.

Great portable launch monitor with very good accuracy readings for every hit. Its small easy to use different functions/modes etc make this device top choice for measuring swing speed, ball speed, smash factor, carry, estimated, total distance etc, and it can measure distance in either yards or kph and best of all is the price as its nearly as good as launch monitors which cost thousands more.
    Highly recommended. Love it.

  25. Jacob Silver says:

Not sure how accurate it is, it gives a different reading to the monitor at the driving range but to be fair I have little confidence in the accuracy of that equipment.
Extremely easy to use very portable and gives you an instant reading.
Maybe a little expensive for what you get but no complaints really

  26. Anonymous says:

    Easy to use
Accuracy on clubhead speed and ball speed is good, compared v closely to other tech at a couple of ranges
Distance is just an algorithm, so basically ignore that
Occasionally gives some poor readings, maybe 5-10% of the time

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe device itself looks ok but not had chance to try it yet but even though the description clearly says INCLUDES EVERYTHING YOU NEED: Batteries, protective case, and instruction manual, be aware It DOES NOT include batteries or a protective case ! so a bit disappointed with that as a case would have been helpful. Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersEasy to use. Most useful is the fact that it picks up clubhead speed without you hitting a golf ball so it can be used in the garden. It does record values of club head speed about 5%-7% higher than a Trackman but once you know this you can make mental adjustments (unless you want to spend thousands on a Trackman)
    Overall good value for money

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersAmazing! I wanted this more for club head speed rather than club distances to start with as I was confused how I carry a 7 iron with 30.5 deg loft 165 yards consistently via trackman with SS 88-90 mph but my driver distance was poor at about 200-220, I thought there was something not right.
This device revealed with swinging without a ball that my Swing speed with the driver was only 86-88 mph on average and 92 when I swung as hard as I coukd. The readings were consistent and correlated to the SS Vs driver distance on all the charts therefore I knew it was fundamentally something wrong with my swing technique with the driver.
The next day I concentrated on the body moves and and mental image of where to release the club via internet and this device gives instant feedback what swing moves increase club head speed without the inconvenience of hitting a ball.
In a 1 hour session experimenting, I got my swing speed up to 102mph and when I slipped back to old ways now and again, you can see the swing speed drop to what it was which shows the device is very consistent.
I can’t praise this device enough, especially at this price range and the fact that you can take it on the course with you too and it’s so small and mobile. A must have for any keen golfer at any level. This device is not a gimmick!

Bought this, on the recommendation of my golf pro, during the lockdown. I’m told it is very accurate (club head and ball speed) compared to the expensive models. It’s benefit in the lockdown is that it is one of the few monitors that measure clubhead speed without using a ball. This can be used in confined spaces to improve swing speed.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI already own a swingcaddie SC100 which I have never been happy with as it is inconsistent in it’s recording – not the swingspeed recorded as that was very good but the issue was it did not read enough hits that were good ones.
The PRGR is also accurate but it reads many, many more hits. It does not read poor duff shots but hardly misses decent shots. I am only talking about indoor practice as due to the coronavirus all golf activities are suspended in the UK.
A good buy and a great pity I wasted the same amount of money on the SC100.
