Good quality, works well, heats up quickly and very portable. If it broke, I’d buy another one! Just note, it doesn’t come with a battery, it fits the Ryobi one + system.

Bought to replace a previous one lost in a garage fire.

This slightly newer model is everything I’d come to love with its predecessor, but with the added advantage of temperature control. Works nicely and the inbuilt stand/holder reduces issues of burning things when putting tool down – this works particularly well with a 4Ah battery or bigger as the battery weight helps make the whole thing more stable.

I’m not a professional and I don’t really know how to solder, but have done it a few times for various DIY projects and repairs.
Because of my lack of experience and only the very occasional need for soldering, I previously bought and used a cheap off-ebay soldering iron that gave me a lot of headaches.
    I simply didn’t know any better…
When I bought this Ryobi I was shocked by how much easier it is to solder with the proper tool for the job. I immediately threw out the old one.

    Definitely recommend this!

Heats up really quickly and I do like the way the temperature is controllable. Lasts a long time on a standard 2.4Ah battery, more than long enough – although on the newer larger batteries I’m sure it would last much longer. The only thing missing is an area for a sponge or wire shavings to help clean the tip when in use. I’ve modified one to attach to the spring but feel it should be something that is included.

I bought this for on site work, light cable connectors etc. No gas or naked flames. I was a bit sceptical about using it for anything bigger. However,I did use it to desolder the contacts on the cap of a Lucas starter motor solenoid. I was outside, it took a little bit of encouragement, but did the job OK. Actually very useful tool. I have a One+ battery adapter for Dewalt batteries, 5amph, works great.
