Samsung known for their reliability and speed. I have been using the 970 EVO for years and I finally get the chance to step up to the 980 PRO. I’m building a new 13 gen gaming system so I thought I would put the 980 PRO in for storage.
Installation was very simple on the playstation requiring nothing more than a simple screwdriver, speeds are fast and the extra space is life-saving, theres also no hassle with installing your own heat sink
Took 5 min to install into PS5. You are able to use the full capacity of the M.2 unlike with a normal hard drive were the usable storage is always less that quoted. Can’t fault it up till now, very fast.
Love this , higher spec than most other PS5 memory ssd and is the cheapest at the moment , got in a prime day sale and loving the spare space for more games lol

Not much I can say. Delivered, installed and working as expected.
Worked great from start. Had used a similar WD one but unfortunately have a lot of problems esp when going video editing. Constant freezing etc. That one was put in a different laptop and seems to work fine with less demanding use. This Samsung one as per all Samsung SSD drives is working great even under demanding tasks such as video editing etc. Very pleased with it. I would always advise when upgrading hardware esp. to a slightly older laptop (Mine is 3 years old) to update the bios and drivers from the laptop makers website. Dell is pretty easy for this.
Just recently purchased a PS5 and was looking at getting a SSD External drive for extra space, and somehow came across this little gem. So easy to install I think no more than 5 mins, and it’s up and running. To think this is cheaper to install than getting a SSD external. Highly recommended for all those PS5 users

Got this to expand the storage on my PS5 and it works great. The installation process was very simple, once I got the right screw, and the set is very stright forward.
It loads games just as quick as the normal SSD on the console does, barley any difference noticeable.

Had this for a couple months now and i must say that i have had no problems and for gaming have seen a difference in loading times for games etc. was really easy to install into the computer and setup
Bought this after my seagate firecuda failed within 3 months. Seagate were hopeless but luckily currys refunded me. Bought this as it was cheaper and it hasn’t disappointed. The minor speed difference between this and the firecuda is negligible and not noticeable. I’ve heard the the expanded SSD on the PS5 can burn out if put into rest mode. Not sure how true that is but it seemed to do it to my firecuda so just be careful.

These are very easy to install but the speeds are limited by the motherboard so you may not experience full speeds with an older board (I believe you need a gen 4.0 M.2 slot on your motherboard)
The SSD I purchased in November 2022 was made in October 2021 and came with the bad 3B2QGXA7 firmware. Thankfully no damage was done before I realised and updated it. Ensure you install Samsung Magician and check as soon as you can.
Otherwise this SSD is superb, very fast indeed. I only buy Samsung SSDs and I’m happy with this one.
Really easy to install just watched the official video by Sony and it took me less than 10mins (and that was with distractions and being careful) – just remember to blow out the excess dust the PS5 has picked up
Samsung’s disk cloning software is in a class of its own, and it only works with Samsung drives. It’s the kind of thing that you don’t need until you do, then you’ll be tearing your hair out instead of drinking a beer like me.
The NVMe4 drive itself is also very VERY fast. It’s actually a little unnerving to see a 2GB file transfer in a quarter of a second. The dialogue doesn’t even have time to appear, the file just teleports.
I can’t say I’ve noticed a massive performance improvement over SSD in all games, though. My entire 32GB of DDR5 RAM should be filled in ~4 seconds from this drive, yet some games (Fallout 4 +mods) can still sometimes take 30-40s to load. I guess it’s a software/optimisation issue from the game itself.
Fast, and slow
I am using this SSD in a Thunderbolt 4 enclosure, connected to my Mac Studio.
For light duty /read/write (i.e. documents) it’s fast – Blackmagic typically shows ~2700MB read and write.
However, for sustained large data transfers, i.e. reading / processing / saving my photo library (integrating and de-duplicating several libraries from an aggregate of >600GB down to ~250GB) the drive/enclosure gets quite hot and the SSD is clearly throttling the data transfer speeds accordingly – the performance reduces substantially.

Obwohl in meinem System ein ASUS ROG Strix Z390-F Gaming Mainboard verbaut ist, welche lediglich nur einen PCIe Slot besitzt, habe ich mich bewusst fr die PCIe 4.0 SSD Variante entschieden.
auch wenn ein PCIe 3.0 Slot nur ca. 3500 MB/s statt der angegebenen 7000 MB/s erreicht, macht es aus meiner Sicht Sinn zu dieser zugreifen — somit habe ich die Mglichkeit in falle eines System Upgrades die SSD weiterzuverwenden um dennoch einen Boots zu erleben, selbst dann wenn zu diesem Zeitpunkt ein neuerer PCIe Einzug erhlt.

Der Einbau auf meinem obengenannten Mainboard lief Problemlos. zwar liefert Samsung der SSD Kein befestigungsmaterial mit, aber dieses lieg ja i.d.R bereits dem Mainboard bei.
Gehuse auf -> SSD in den dafr vorgesehenen PCIe Slot gesteckt -> Befestigungsschraube rein -> Fertig
Die BIOS-Einstellungen kurz geprft und Booten.
Unter Windows muss diese SSD selbstverstndlich noch, wie jede andere Festplatte auch initialisiert werden, ansonsten erscheint diese NICHT im Explorer 😉

3500 MB/s sind ordentlich, wenn man bedenkt das ich diese SSD nur an einem 3.0 PCIe Slot verwendet und nicht wie von Samsung vorgesehen an einem 4.0 Slot
Im vergleich zu meiner Samsung 860 EVO welche fr das Betriebssystem verwendet wird nochmal eine starke Steigerung.

Fr meinen vorgesehenen Einsatz derzeit vllig ausreichend, auch wenn ich die 7000 MB/s Aktuell nicht ausreize. Die Samsung 980 PRO bernimmt jetzt die Arbeit der alten Standard 2TB Seagate Barracuda mit 7200U/Min als Laufwerk D im Bereich der Spiele.
Ich fr meinen Teil werde in absehbarer Zeit auch die Samsung 860 EVO austauschen
Von mir daher eine klare Kauf Empfehlung.
Samsung SSD 980 Pro 2TB - eine Wucht!
Die Samsung SSD 980 Pro ist eine unglaublich schnelle NVME M.2 SSD.
Mit einer Lesegeschwindigkeit von 7000MB/s und einer Schreibgeschwindigkeit von 5000MB/s ist sie einfach unglaublich schnell. Auch die 600 TB TBW deuten auf eine sehr lange Lebensdauer hin.
Die SSD wurde direkt vom System erkannt und die Installation war sehr einfach und schnell. Mein System ist in 6 Sekunden hochgefahren und nutzungsbreit. Beim Spielen auch super, Ladezeiten existieren praktisch nicht.
Die gewohnte Samsung Qualitt. Klare Kaufempfehlung.

Aprs plus d’un an d’utilisation j’ai remplac mon 980 pro 1To par son successeur le 990 pro 1 To. Je reviens aujourd’hui sur le 980 pro, car les performances du 990 pro, excellentes au dbut, dcroissent vue d’il. Regardez sur internet, l’explication s’y trouve…

Prodotto a gennaio 2023 con gi firmware 5B2QGXA7, installato su PS5 con velocit di lettura pari a 6484MB/s. Acquistato per sostituire su PS5 il 980 PRO da 1T senza dissipatore (aggiunto a parte) prodotto nel luglio 2021 con firmware 3B2QGXA7 che comunque da controllo con Magician dopo 2250 ore di accensione e 6TB scritti non ha riscontrato nessun errore di lettura/scrittura o settori danneggiati, neanche di surriscaldamento. Nulla.

Mit WIndows 11 Usb bootstick wurde das ganze auch problemlos in das richtige Format fr Win11 formatiert, welches erst der Grund war fr die Anschaffung.
Konnte keinerlei berhitzungserscheinungen oder sonstige Probleme feststellen, Win11 Pro luft sehr gut und stabil. Im Alltag merkt man den deutlichen Boost im Gegensatz zu langsameren NVMes wahrscheinlich eher nicht.

This SSD is a very good purchase for anyone who is moving a lot of files or installing lots of intensive games. The speeds which this can go is amazing provided you are installing it in a PCIe Gen 4 slot.
Install speeds are very fast on this and loading times are practically non-existent. I’ve never seen the drive get close to being over 40% usage on task manager even whilst installing 100 GB worth of files in one go. This is also dependent on your pc but it’s a peek into the amount of performance that this drive can do.
If you are video editing as well, this drive is very good at handling the live timeline in Adobe applications. This drive is highly recommended and can often be found on sales.
I have used my motherboard m.2 heatsink for the product and depending on your workflow this would be a recommendation but if you are going to be using it mostly for games or more ad-hoc work then you don’t really need any aftermarket heatsink.

Un ottimo prodotto, sufficientemente capiente in modo da mantenerlo sul 50% di spazio utilizzato ad ogni momento (gli SSD NVMe operano al meglio fino al 50% di spazio utilizzato, dopodich iniziano ad accusare velocit ridotte in scrittura e lettura, niente di inquietante, tranquilli, ma vale la pena sottolinearlo).
Poco tempo fa usc una notizia secondo la quale (confermata da Samsung) i 980 Pro e 990 Pro erano soggetti a danni elettrici e termici causati da un firmware difettoso: io personalmente non ho avuto problemi ma il firmware della memoria che mi arrivata era aggiornata, per chi ne possiede uno/vuole acquistarlo, consiglio di scaricare il software Samsung Magician che permette l’aggiornamento di suddetto firmware in maniera facile e veloce.
I 990 Pro non hanno ancora ricevuto questo hotfix, perci procedete con cautela e buoni acquisti!

Seit 1 Woche eingebaut und bisher zufriede
Die Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD hat meine etwas ltere SanDisk Sata SSD ersetzt, da ich mehr Speicher bentigte. Installation war etwas schwierig was aber dem Motherboard Hersteller anzulasten ist und nicht Samsung. Ich habe ber die SSD einen Heatsink von meinem Motherboard Hersteller geschraubt und die Karte hlt sich eigentlich dauerhaft so um die 50 Grad.
Nach dem Einbau machte ich einen Clean Windows 11 Install auf der SSD und ich muss sagen das sie echt rasend schnell ist. Beim Hochfahren hatte ich Probleme ins Bios zu kommen, weil Windows so schnell gebootet ist. Hab dann die Bootzeit etwas erhht. Datenbertragungen sind auch echt gut. Bisher sein Geld Wert und echt zufriede
Ce disque SSD est parfait pour upgrader une configuration PC ou pour une console. Rapide, l’interface PCIe 4.0 embarqu autorise des dbits jusqu’ 7000 Mo/s mais reste compatible avec les PCIe 3.0. Ma carte mre est limite au PCIe3.0 x4, soit des dbits max de 3500 Mo/s, mais c’est dj largement suffisant et la diffrence en pratique est insignifiante. Sa large capacit de 2To (1,81 To rellement disponible une fois format) me convient parfaitement pour loger tous mes logiciels sans devoir faire des choix. L’installation est simple : l’insrer simplement 45 dans son connecteur puis fixer le disque l’oppos avec la vis. Install avec le radiateur fourni de ma carte mre, il ne chauffe pas excessivement : 50C max en utilisation standard, 65 en jeu, sous une T ambiante 21C.
Retour sur un problme qu’a rencontr ce disque il y a quelques mois. En effet, un mauvais firmware provoquait des erreurs en srie qui conduisait inexorablement au blocage du disque en lecture seule au bout d’un moment. Le firmware incrimin est la version 3B2QGXA7, corrig avec les versions 4B2QGXA7 et 5B2QGXA7 disponibles sur ce SSD 980 PRO. Tous les disques vendus depuis ne sont donc pas touchs par ce problme, le mien tant arriv en novembre dernier avec la dernire version 5B2QGXA7. Mais au cas o, il faudra obligatoirement mettre jour ce firmware en passant par l’application Samsung Magician, et ce avant que les symptmes n’apparaissent, car aprs c’est trop tard… Pour les possesseurs de consoles, il faudra donc passer par une tape d’installation sur un PC quip d’un slot NMVe (pas forcment en tant que disque systme d’amorage) pour pouvoir le mettre jour (ce qui ne prend que quelques dizaines de secondes).

Die Pro Serie ist absolut und immer eine Empfehlung wert.
In meinem Thunderbolt 4 Gehuse von Acasis erreiche ich je nach verwendeten Formatierung
unterschiedliche Leistung.
Der verwendete Rechner / Kabel ist aber auch sehr wichtig.
Die Leistung fllt auch unterschiedlich auch aus, je nachdem welches Tool zur Messung verwendet wurde.
Mit BlackMagic ist APFS schneller beim lesen und schreiben als ExFAT. ca. 2750 MB/s
Mit Crystal Mark und gleicher Formatierung komme ich beim Lesen auf 3100 und beim schreiben nur auf 2200MB/s
ExFAT kommt in beiden Tools auf 2500 beim lesen und 2200 MB/s beim schreiben.
Mein Aourus Laptop erreicht beim lesen 2900 MB/s aber der Schreibvorgang bricht ein.
Nur 900 MB/s
Gleiches Bild zeigt sich wenn ich die SSD ber mein Thunderbolt Dock anschliesse.
Aber ich kann diese SSD empfehlen.
Sowohl fr den internen als auch fr den externen Einsatz.
I am currently using this in my new build that has a Gen 4 Slot for this drive. The speeds are as advertised and sometimes creep up past the advertised ones. The drive is tiny almost the size of my pinky and absolutely wafer thin so you must be careful when handling it.
In terms of windows boot times, I noticed no difference coming from a 2016 960 EVO NVMe which is to be expected because once you reach a certain speed point the difference is negligible. Games loaded almost identical with the newer drive loading milliseconds quicker. This is a good purchase alongside another SSD used for storage. I wouldn’t use this as the sole drive in the PC unless you get the largest storage capacity they have to offer.
One benefit of solid state memory that I see others fail to mention in their review is how it helps your download speed stay consistent. For example I have a 1Gigabit download speed and when downloading games on steam to my hard disk drive it will only download data as fast the hard drive can write. With an SSD 2.5inch or NVMe your speed will be consistent all the way through.
Overall 10/10 and exceeded my expectations.

Comprata per aumentare ssd della ps5 interna dove c’ gi uno slot dedicato all’interno, su youtube il video semplicissimo come montarla ( si monta in 5min) …i prezzi sono ancora alti per le ssd e quindi ho optato per una da 2T ….quella da 4T costa pi che la ps5….magari tra un anno si abbassano i prezzi …comunque ottimo acquisto ,comprata la versione gi con il suo dissipatore incorporato ,ripeto perfetta per la ps5
Prima M.2 SSD
Habe die M.2 SSD benutzt um meine Systemplatte zu erweitern. Ganz simpel mit dem Data Migrations Tool die Platte geklont und nach 45 min. war das Ganze erledigt. Alte SSD ausgebaut und die M.2 auf den Slot mit PCIe 4.0 Lightning Gen4 x4M.2 mit M.2 Shield Frozr meines MSI X570 Board eingesetzt, Win 10 sofort erkannt und gestartet. Klare Empfehlung.

Facile da installare, da usare qualche accortezza comunque quando si maneggia con l’SSD.
La memoria riconosciuta dalla Play 5 di 1.01 Tb. La velocit palese, basta avviare lo stesso gioco prima su memoria interna e poi passarlo su SSD “esterno” ed avviare lo stesso gioco in modo da notare decisamente tempi di avvio o caricamento inferiori.
Una delle buone alternative al poco spazio della PS5.

Heres how :
-Simply clip off the faceplate that has NO ps logolift up the top right corner and gently slide the faceplate down
– you will see the rectangular silver cover for the drive
-unscrew and remove it
-on the edge of the drive enclosure there is a screw that needs to be removed and a washer, you need these to hold the drive in place once installed
– get the ssd drive and install, hold a torch or something so you can see you are installing into the right end
-once its firmly in place, take the screw and washer and install them at the end of the ssd drive( there are various holes )
-then put the silver cover back on and screw in
-thats it
This genuinely takes 5 mins to install
Then turn on the ps5 and follow the onscreen instructions

SSD Samsung 980 Pro incluant un dissipateur thermique d’une trs belle finition. Installation on ne peut plus facile (si vous n’tes pas dgourdi, vous trouverez bien mille tutos sur YT). Reconnu immdiatement par la PS5 qui invite au formatage. Une fois que c’est fait, il suffit de transfrer (ou pas !) vos jeux sur le SSD 980 Pro. Pour ma part, j’ai choisi de rserver le 1 To pour les jeux PS5, et le SSD de base pour les jeux PS4. La copie de mes 500 Go de jeux sur le 980 Pro s’est effectue rapidement (en 4 minutes et des poussires il me semble). Les jeux dmarrent immdiatement, et tournent sans aucune latence. Juste parfait !

Easy to install since the heatsink is already attached and works on PS5 well. My write speed is approximately 6500 MB/s, so a bit slower than the maximum. The production date was 10/22, so I didn’t feel the need to go through the task of updating the firmware through my PC to just pull it out for the PS5, thankfully!
As asked and answered previously, no issue installing this SSD ordered from the UK into an Aussie PS5 (was previously concerned about region locking).
If you want to register your SSD onto your Samsung account (for warranty), make sure you do so before installing it into your PS5 as you’ll need the serial number on the SSD. I couldn’t do it as the SSD is a lot harder to get out than in. 🙁
Happy to have received what I ordered! Good value for money if you can catch it on sale. I wouldn’t have purchased it full price since a cheaper SSD would work but with slower speeds. This SSD is pretty up there (look at reviews through online articles) with a lobg 5 year warranty, so I was happy to be able to purchase it within my budget on sale and up my gaming experience. 😀

Dead easy to install. Slide the disc side PS5 panel off, unscrew memory slot cover, unscrew guide spacer, slide SSD into place (resting open edge on top of spacer), screw open edge into place, replace memory slot cover and screw into place then slide PS5 side panel back into place.
Turn PS5 back on and it should prompt you to format the drive. Once done you’ve got your additional storage ready to use.
Only niggle (and this is the PS5’s issue rather than the SSD) – whilst the PS5 can read games or apps stored on either the included internal or added/expanded SSD it isn’t smart enough to automatically flip the storage location when the internal drive is full but your shiny new SSD is empty – you have to manually choose the SSD expansion as the save location once the internal drive gets full. Not a big issue if you are doing everything via the console but if you’re trying to use the PS app when you are out and about to download a game ready for when you get home it might be an issue to be aware of.
All in all very happy with the purchase and would recommend!
Le disque est parfaitement compatible avec la PS5 aprs 6 mois aucune latence les accs disques sont fait dans les temps. Seul dommage mais cela est malheureusement dans les mains de sony c’est que la console sauvegarde obligatoirement sur le disque dur interne de la console et pas de choix pour les faire plutt sur ce disque externe ou mme sur le disque usb pour les jeux PS4… J’aurais prfrer que le disque dur interne de la console ne serve plus du tout mais bon sony n’a pas prvu cela, surement une “obsolescence programme” qui fera que la console sera inutilisable le jour ou le stockage de la console lchera et qu’on ne peut pas remplacer…

Got this drive when it was on sale for 199.99. No NVMe drive comes close in performance at this price point.
The only downside is the temperature. It does get pretty hot and my laptop doesn’t have enough space for a heat spreader.

J’avais auparavant sur ce connecteur un SSD Crucial MX500 M2 2280 de 500 Gb rglage bios M2
Temprature de 25C mesure avec Hard Disk Sentinel 6.01.9 Pro mais j’ai utilis un radiateur dissipateur thermique de moins de 10 car l’ancien SSD sans radiateur thermique montait plus de 50C.
Selon HDSentinel : Taux de transfert max: 338 501 Ko/sec ce jour (1 jour d’utilisation) mais indication de la ncessit d’une plus grande utilisation du disque pour valuer le taux de transfert maximal

Facile installer sur slot nvme 2.0 (trs simple avec juste un petit tuto sur le net)
Vrifiez bien dans le Bios de votre pc, que vos slots soient paramtrs en pcie 4.0 !!
Au premier montage je plafonnais a 3500 mo/sec aussi bien sr le Logiciel Magician de Samsung que sur CrystalDisk..
Aprs vrif, mes slots nvme taient paramtrs d’origine sur du pcie3, ce qui bride les perfs du SSD..
Aprs modif du bios pour le nvme-pcie, oh magie !! 7000 mo/s, un fichier de 50 go transfr en quelques secondes.. du pur bonheur a change la vie..
Et que dire des jeux… Quasi plus aucun temps de chargement.. un rgal !!

W aktualnym komputerze nie posiadam wsparcia dla PCIe generacji 4 dlatego nie jestem w stanie wykorzysta peni moliwoci tego dysku, ale i tak jest minimalnie lepszy od na przykad Samsunga 970 Pro (ktrego uywam jako dysk systemowy).
I recommend this SSD to all PS owners. It was fast enough for PS5 even without firmware update (6100+ MB/s). After I slotted it to my PC and ran Samsung Magician I managed to get 6500 MB/s. But doesn’t actually matter. It is enough if it runs at 5500, so don’t overpax on faster but much more expensive SSDs.

Miglior SSD m2 senza se e senza ma, non e’ economica, in commercio ne esistono molte pi economiche, ma vale ogni euro speso ,velocit di lettura e scrittura pazzesche, se volete stare tranquilli e rendere il vostro PC una scheggia , fa al caso vostro. Eccezionale non solo per il gaming ma per qualsiasi cosa vogliate fare , complimenti a Samsung.

Compr en el black friday, sta memoria de 1 TB para la ps5, por poco ms de 120, osea un chollo. Viene adems con disipador incorporado, as que solo es instalar y a funcionar. Haba ledo en los comentarios que haba que actualizar el firmware de esta memoria en la web de Samsung,va PC y antes de colocar en la Play, por qu sino la velocidad de lectura no llegaba a los 6000 MB/s. Yo no actualic, me vi algn vdeo de cmo se instalaba en la consola ( super sencillo) y me di una velocidad de lectura de ms de 6400, as que perfecto.

Das Produkt ist eine normale M.2 SSD, weshalb ich nichts zu der Installation sagen muss. Scheint nach Samsung Standard hochwertig verarbeitet zu sein. Wichtig zu beachten ist, dass man sich bewusst macht ob man einen Heat-Sync braucht (Hat dein Mainboard einen Hitzeverzteiler vorinstalliert der auf die SSD kommt?) oder nicht. Ich persnlich brauchte keinen. Mit der Samsung Magican App ist leicht zu sein das man keine Temperatur Probleme bekommen wird, DirectX 12 Ultimate Ready ist und die angegebenen Geschwindigkeiten locker erreicht werde

e pouvant le mettre dans mon nouveau PC ou il n’y a qu’un emplecement pour M2 je l’ai branch dans un boitier externe en USB 3 le debit criture lecture est bon mais il est dommage que je n’ai q’une carte mre avec un seul emplacement car sur la carte mre les taux de transfert sont beaucoup plus levs, la limite il serait plus judicieux de mettre une carte mre avec 2 emplacements pour SSD M2 nvme pcie.

Il est parfaitement reconnu par la console et facile installer une fois que l’on a compris comment enlever la plate de sa ps5 ( des tutos sont disponibles sur youtube).

Upgrading my PC I decided to add an M.2 drive to my MSI B550 Unify board. I thought it would be easy but turned out to be fiddly trying to get the screws in place and discovering that the ones that came out of the motherboard wouldn’t go back in with the drive in place. Fortunately I had some spare screws from previous PCs so used them instead and managed to get the cover back on! I couldn’t get Samsung Magician software to clone my old Samsung SSD and ended up doing a complete re-install of everything. This was using an M.2 without a heatsink and utilising the MSI board’s own heatsink. It runs around 30 degrees C in normal use to I guess that’s cool!. From my research this is one of the top M.2s around and I’m happy with it.
If you wanted to upgrade the firmware as well
As a MacOS user on a 15-inch Mid 2015 MacBook Pro, I burnt the Samsung ISO image to a USB flash drive, then managed to boot on it. Unfortunately, after successful boot process, Samsung Magician was not able to detect the brand new 980 PRO I suspect the NVMe adapter (Sintech NGFF M.2 nVME SSD Adapter Card) that I had to buy as well, because Apple uses a proprietary connector. Note that the SSD has been perfectly detected by MacOS though (System Info’s NVMe section).
Solution: get another computer. I inserted the SSD into the M.2 socket of another laptop’s motherboard (thus without the need to use the NVMe adapter) and booted on a Ubuntu Live USB flash drive—and selected the “Try” option.
I executed some CLI commands—blog.quindorian.org/2021/05/firmware-update-samsung-ssd-in-linux.html—and the SSD was successfully flashed. Then, I put the SSD back into the MacBook Pro. Well detected again by MacOS (Monterey) with updated revision number as shown by MacOS System Information app.
Great product, installed into a compatible PCIe 4.0 socket, works like lightning. However, I would not say that it is perceptibly faster than a 970 EVO, so we are perhaps talking marginal gains if you already have M.2 NVME drives.

+ Not a DRAM-less design or cheaper QLC NAND like the budget 980
+ Does not require over-provisioning as a default but you can set it up like this
+ Samsung Magician software has performance profiles for the drive (e.g. full power, energy saving)
CONS
– As usual, no screw, thermal pad or even instructions in the packaging
– Thermals can get high without proper cooling (light use brings it to 44-45C with a solid aluminium heatsink)
– PCIe 4.0 does not seem as fast as expected and boot times are not noticeably faster
– Samsung migration software failed the first time to clone a drive (but this may be due to the NVME enclosure)
Honestly, I am clutching at straws to criticise the product with my two main gripes being heat generation and the similar boot times from the previous generation 970 EVO. Highly recommended – backed by Samsung quality, performance and warranty – just make sure you cool the drive adequately.
