¹Performance may vary depending on the SSD’s firmware version and the system hardware & system configuration. Performance measurements are based on IOmeter 1.1.0. The write performances were measured with Intelligent TurboWrite technology being activated. The sequential write performances after Intelligent TurboWrite region are: up to 500 MB/s(250GB), 1,000 MB/s(500GB) and 2,000 MB/s(1TB). ²Results are based on a comparison with Samsung PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSDs and SATA SSDs.
³To maximize the performance of the 980 PRO, please check whether your system supports PCIe 4.0 at the Intel or AMD website.

lettura fino a 7000 MB/s e in scrittura fino a 5100 MB/s.
tipo NVMe M.2 PCIe 4.0;
livello termico “generalmente” pi stressato
rispetto al primo slot PCIe NVMe.
Prestazioni:
Anche in questo caso doverosa una premessa;
da hard-disk meccanici Sata6 che uso per l’archiviazione;
Samsung Magician restituisce:
6085 MB/s in lettura e 4820 MB/s in scrittura.
Crystal diskmark restituisce:
6225 MB/s in lettura e 4711 MB/s in scrittura.
after market durante i benchmark ho toccato anche i 75.
recensioni che invece ne parlano;
nessun rilevante miglioramento visibile.
Confezione:

Very Great produc
I’ve used to upgrade my hp omen 15-dc0001nl gaming laptop and it’s really fast. High reccomanded with good price, I recommend to you Klarna to split the payment in 3 times.
Needed a bit of setup but works.
Had to set partitions for the m.2 to appear on my devices. Last one I had was plug and play.
It now comfortably stores all my games. Hasn’t failed yet.
Incredible speeds
Incredible speeds, loading screens are a thing of the past! However I was a little surprised with the available storage space for my system. The advertised space is 1tb however on my system it shows 910 gb of available space which is strange because it is a new and competely clean drive, my boot is stored on a seperate drive.
Perfect for PS5
Got on promotion, but this was super easy to install in my PS5 with a heatsink added separately, process of installation only took 10 mins and copied applications over super fast.
Fast and furious...
Well that sped up the system loading times, fitting was a bit fiddly, a magnetic screwdriver is a must, but once in it was recognised at once, True Image software I have used forever transferred the operating system over and reboot. Wow.
– dmarrage de windows (jusqu’a la page de login) : 41sec -> 32 sec
– Word : 2 sec -> 2 sec
– Adobe premiere : 10sec -> 10sec
– Adobe photoshop : 12sec -> 10 sec
– PhpStorm : 14sec -> 8sec
Very Fast SSD
This generation, Samsung used 3-bit TLC flash instead of the 2-bit MLC used on the 970 Pro. This still results in superior IOPS, Read/Writes.
I did three runs back to back for a quick torture test and the results are pretty close to what was advertised other than the IOPS. Those were underwhelming compared to Samsung’s claims of 1000k versus the 700k achieved.
Premium price aside, I would suggest this to anyone moving lots of data around frequently and/or want the latest and greatest Samsung has to offer in the Gen. 4 NVME space. Alternatively, the 970 Evo Plus is excellent for those looking for a less expensive but well performing Gen. 3 NVME. Can’t go wrong with either.
FYI: Operating System load times and responsiveness will vary depending on your PC’s specifications and should be put into consideration when buying a high-end product like this one.
It's Samsung....
Samsung products are generally solid… maybe a little more expensive than competitors but you know it will be quality. No problems installing; just plug and play. Initialised M.2 and updated firmware using Samsung magician software. Transferred WIN 10 OS by /d/lding Windows bootup to USB. Change BIOS to boot from USB. Install WIN 10 OS. It does seem to boot quicker and I posted read/write speeds with this message….
Happy overall….
Good.
Upgraded my desktop. I think it’s slowed down a bit now that it’s all been written over once (more than did the SSD that I had previously). Nice and quick though!
Samsung Standard
Just like every other Samsung SSD drive I own, blazingly fast. I marked five stars for longevity only due to my past experience with Samsung SSD drives as I still use my first 64gb Samsung SSD and never once had an issue with any. (I own 6)
Can't go wrong with a Samsung Pro
Had already purchased this from Samsung, but Black Friday on Amazon (favourite day of the year btw) and I had to pull the plug. 100 off RRP and I gladly took the plunge.
Ive tried other M.2’s in the past and I can say that there is that added performance from the Samsung over the others.
The price difference may sway a lot of decisions, but you get what you pay for. I’ve become accustomed to the Samsung brand for M.2’s and will take a mammoth change in the industry for me to jump ship.
Incredible speed, reliability and price!
Once of the best purchases of 2021 for me! Ultra high speed PCIe 4 drive at an absolutely outstanding price.
The installation of the Nvme is extremely simple, fast and effective.
The performance gains in games and application loading tones is absolutely incredible. Extracting large zips, copying files etc are all done in the blink of an eye when connected to a PCIe 4 board and Ryzen CPU.
The temps are kept in check with good software from Samsung and the lifetime far exceeds anything you will realistically use before your next upgrade.
A highly recommended product, as it not only has longevity, future proofing and a spectacular warranty, it comes in at a great price for all.
Too buy of 2021!
Highly recommended!
A must buy for your PS5
I bought this and I was looking to upgrade my PS5 storage and I’m glad I did. We all know the PS5 doesn’t come with much storage so this is a much welcome addition!
You'll need a separate heatsink if for PS5
Superfast, simple to install I’m a ps5 with a separate heatsink (purchased separately)
Cheaper at the moment than all the other 2tb ssds, and faster than nearly all even without a firmware update.
Super highly recommend
Perfect for the ps5
Very easy to add a heatsink and to install into a ps5. Perfect solution if you want relatively cheap 2tb storage. The ssd is well packaged and works without fault. My ps5 reported read speed of nearly 6000mb/sec which is adequate but not the advertised rate.
250GB and 2TB
This is the second 980 Pro I have bought.
These drivers get very hot so you will need a suitable cooler.
They are fantastically fast. The speed increase over the PCIe 3 is really amazing. You won’t notice much until you copy files or load very large applications, but if you need the speed then you really are going to notice the performance increase these drives bring. I think the one thing that is slightly annoying about the advertising for the PCIe 4 drives is that they often describe them as gaming drives. I replaced a SATAIII drive with a 980Pro PCIe 4 and I can tell you there was almost no noticeable increase in performance. However, in one game I noticed a distinct advantage using the PCIe 4 drive. In the game Destiny 2, if you know that game there are points where you cross boundaries and it loads in more of the map. With the SATA III drive there was a delay of one to two seconds. With the PCIe 4 drive this reduced to “a slight glitch”. The difference was very noticeable and gave you several seconds of advantage over other players. Whether you consider that worth the cost, well, that’s up to you.
Highly recommended, but don’t upgrade just for speed, you may not notice any increase at all.
Good for ps5
Brought this to go in my ps5 with a heatsink. This ssd fits perfect and was recognised and worked perfectly in the ps5. Was labelled as uptight 7000mbs speed and my ps5 says it is running at 5700mbs
Great price works with ps5
Purchased this drive to use with ps5.
Decided to buy this drive due to the attractive price/offer and paired with a sabrent ps5 heatsink. Not the samsung heatsink model.
I put drive into laptop to check drive and update firmware. Once completed I then proceeded to install into my ps5. Took about 20min to get up and running. Ps5 test reported a drive speed of 6500 mbps.
Updating to latest firmware is recommended before fitting into ps5.
Been using for 2 days now with no problems and performance is excellent. Highly recommended.
Highly recommended for gamers
I bought 2TB of this SSD as i needed it for my ps5 storage and it’s works perfectly super fast and easy to install aswell the only thing you need is coller for it but pretty happy with it so fa
Massive Saving over Pre-Installed Heatsink Versio
I bought this for my PS5 which requires an SSD with a heatsink.
The 2TB version was around 200 more for such a version. I bought the plain one and a 12 heatsink. No more than 5 minutes work to stick on and screw in and significantly increase memory capacity.
I moved all my games from the internal storage which took about 5-10 minutes for 500gb worth.
In game, I can see no change to loading times, still as quick as you expect from PS5’s
If you buy one with a heatsink because you don’t think you can DIY, then you have no business opening up your console and trying to fit that either.
Marked down on VFM because 240 ain’t cheap. It’s nowhere near cheap.
One of the best PCIe 4.0 available
Bought at 240, which is a very good price for the speed and storage capacity of this drive.
However, although the product itself is good, when I first received the package from amazon, the seal on the SSD box was broken and and SSD was not inside. When I contacted amazon, I received a refund within an hour and was able to order another one.
Since the issue was resolved very quickly without any problem, I still rated the product 5 stars.
Retail boxed - no mb post or screw
Came to install and despite having 10 billion PC (ok maybe not quite but you get the idea) case and mobo assembly screws at my disposal it turns out my crosshair viii hero wifi didn#’ come with the screw or post needed for a NVME drive and nor did this drive. Just check you have the parts 🙂
Otherwise a cinch to install in the top Crosshair viii slot (the lower one requires the removal of a couple of plates so a bit longer if you want to use that slot)
Really happy with the performace – partitioned for 1tb for lightroom and 1tb for games
Rapid, reliable, works on PS5.
The Samsung 980 Pro has been around a good while longer than most of the latest PCIe 4.0 drives out there. As a result, you can see how it’s held up over the last year or so. It’s a drive that receives a lot of praise, and since it’s been around for a while, the price is often quite good.
There are a few newer drives which have slightly higher speeds now, but the gains just aren’t high enough to justify the added price that’s often being asked. The 980 is a drive that’s stood the test of time, so it’s the one I still recommend currently.
In the PS5, my testing shows it to have the same level of performance in games. I’d recommend using a heat sink with the drive if it’s going into the PS5 since the enclosure doesn’t have any air flow. If using it in a laptop, and you don’t have space for one, you should be just fine.
I’m not going to post any speed tests as the internet is absolutely flooded with these if that’s what you’re interested in.
One thing would like to point out. The drive has a high performance mode, but you need to plug it into a PC and download the Samsung software in order to enable it. I did some testing on PS5 to see how it would impact load times with this enabled or disabled. The speed test that the PS5 does at the beginning when setting up the drive does show roughly 1GB per second faster (sometimes), but in actual game testing, I found it to be mostly the exact same speeds.
Fast and reliable
Never had any issues with Samsung memory and Storage devices, so that will remain the biggest selling point for me and now the speed of this drive pushed me to buy it.
Highly recommended.
So far so good.
Quite east to fit with a heat sync. Just take your time. Works well, very fast transfer speeds. Ps5 gives you the option to store any pa4 games you download straight to the m.2
Worth the money.
Ps5 compatible. Info
Well the question was is it worth 185
Short answer is how desperate do you need space and don’t want a portable hdd and have a cable take one of your USB slots.
See pictures.
So I had this installed in less than 5 minutes. Super easy.
You get 1tb after formatting so the size is 1tb.01 so get exactly what you pay for.
If you go to settings storage and select installation location you can set wether you want ps5 games onto your main console storage or ps5 onto the m.2 new storage. A nice touch if I might add. I’ve transferred files and worked flawlessly. I’ve put ps4 files onto it as I have more ps4 games but can move files manually if needed to.
Best part it just clicks straight in. Power up and first thing playstation detects is a new internal storage. Just click format and boom your done.
Highly recommended if your like me buy your wife a takeaway so she doesn’t freak out about the price.
So if your thinking about getting it. You’ll love it I promise. You don’t get that annoying not enough space rubbish. Comes with warranty and the best part I can play warzone again. Hope this helps and happy gaming gamers.
Perfect for PS5 and PC
No regrets – I’m really pleased with both the Read and write speed of the Samsung 980 PRO m.2. I bought two of these , one for my PS5 (excellent response and faster than the main drive in the PS5) and another one installed as a primary drive on my newly built PC. (Outstanding boot up speed).
Highly recommended!!!
Fast enough for my laptop
I really wanted to upgrade my SSD drive on my Macbook Pro. Finally i did it and its really fast. I did run disk test speed on Blackmagic design. It is quiet impressive. This is the first Samsung NVMe SSD 1TB drive i’ve used and happy to have one. I would definitely recommend this.
It's Friday it's black friday
So I thought I’d just bite the bullet given the great discount for black Friday and stick a second 1tb card in my spanky new laptop, doing the speed check this thing is noticibly quicker than the m.2 drive that came with the laptop, especially write speeds. I manage about 910 write on c drive but this is closer to 3k, need the balls to clone windows over now as my native drive occupies a gen4 slot while it’s obviously not gen4 unlike this card, on the other hand the Samsung runs at about 38c to my native cards 34c even though native card was running Windows OS at time while Samsung was doing SFA, and yes my laptop came with a spare m.2 heat dispersion sticker which I applied upon installation, but it makes sense anyway It just has to be drawing more power anyway if it’s reaching those higher speeds. It’s just physics!
Easy to install its just a M.2 Mount. great value when on sale. Disappointed Samsung has Moved to TLC for there pro drives, but speeds are great so longs you don’t fill the SLC Cache.
Put this in my ps5 with a heat sink, don’t forget that or shell throttle. All I can say is that stuff loads as quick as the internal nvme drive no crashes or stutter games for ps5 and PS4 work well on it.
Great drives. Happy with the performance. For this on a black Friday sale. Easy to install if you don’t have a huge cpu cooler in the way! Mine is under the pci slots and the gpu doesn’t come out without first removing the noctua cooler. Would recommend this drive.
Purchased this to expand the storage of the PS5. I’ve always expanded the internal
Storage of PlayStations since Sony introduced this option with the PS3. Installing this into the PS5 was a remarkably easy process compared to previous generations. In fact the most difficult part was removing the PS5 faceplate. Sony recommends you use a Heatsink so I also purchased the QIVYNSRY M.2 Heatsink NVME 2280. Installing this SSD into the Heatsink took about 10mins, very easy process after watching a couple of you tube videos. The whole process of assembling the Heatsink and installing into to PS5 took about 25mins and I was back up and running. The PS5 said the read speed was 5820mbs so this was slower than the advertised 7000mbs but this could be down to several factors. Once installed, I moved all my games at around 600gb to this SSD which took about another 10mins. I’ve played all the games and they have all worked perfectly. I still have my 2TB HDD attached for my PS4 games and all is working as expected. I might be imagining this but the PS5 seems to running a lot cooler with less heat being exhausted out the rear. Got this during Black Friday for231 so it might be worth waiting if you don’t need the space right now as the price is likely to come down at some point. Very pleased with this SSD.
Moved from a PCIe 2.0 SSD interface to a PCIe 4.0 SSD interface on my new motherboard. Put this drive on the right PCIe interface and made sure interface setting was PCIe 4.0 in the BIOS. Ran crystaldiskmark and got 7100 MB/s read and 6000 MB/s write on the best test run. Well worth it while on sale at around 240 for 2TB version.
One thing i find with SSD, it seems i always like to go with well known brand, one of them is Samsung, i never had any problems from them, they are stable and fantastically reliable. Recommended.
Very simple to install on PS5 just make sure you buy a compatible heat sink as this version DOES NOT come with one.
I used the QIVYNSRY M.2 Heatsink NVME 2280 SSD heat sink and have had no issues with either product.
If you are unsure about installation process Playstation have a YouTube video. Remember you HAVE to replace the metal cover on the expansion port after installation.
Happy with this ssd very fast and easy to install.
I’m using it in my ps5 games run very well from it same as the games on the ps5 drive.
Great speeds
i am so happy with this
only had it since yesterday and installed it today 23/11/21 and so far its been amazing.
Loading and all speeds fast.
Would highly recommend.
Used the samsung migrate software you can download and worked like a trea
Received today, cloned my standard crucial MX1000 ssd using Acronis True Image 2018. It took about 18 minutes to clone a ssd and move all the data about 500GB to a new Samsung 980 M.2 drive.
My current system:
MSI MEG X570 ACE – PCIe Gen4
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
Kingston Fury RAM 32GB – 3600
GeForce GTX 980
During several performance tests and copying large files (4k movies) 980 drive reached 52 degrees C.
Motherboard has 3 m.2 slots with designed heatsinks. So I believe that helps to keep pretty much good temperatures.
For comparison performed benchmark using Crystaldiskmark and Samsung Magician software. Well I don’t know why but samsung software shows even better benchmark figures
Lets see how reliable this thing is. There is nothing else to say. It works really fas
Blisteringly fast. I have this installed via an Orico Thunderbolt 3 enclosure. While it may not reach the speeds it *could* run at (the encloseure is PCIe 3), the quality of this NVME is apparent from using it with Adobe Premiere. I’m a video editor, and believe me, I can tell the difference between a few hundredths of a second of speed. I render to and play back from this drive and it makes a big difference. Although the internal drive in my Mac is faster on paper, the resposiveness of the system with the Samsung 980 Pro installed is incredible. There is no perceptible lag at all and I’m shuttling back and forth through HD and 4K footage all day long. Brilliant. It makes up for Adobe’s software, which should be a lot better in terms of responsiveness in my opinion. This makes the process a joy.
very happy with the Samsung 980 2tb works for my ps5 no needed to update software as it already been done before easy to install and setup fast fast for playing the game like call of duty games save me more memory, you will needed heatsink for this memory if you gonna install in playstation 5 very happy with it.
I have this SSD for a while and I am still impressed about how fast the games can load from it. Only using it for recent games such as Forza Horizon 5 or Battlefield 2042
So yea when you install it also download Samsung magician. this will let you install latest drivers for the drive.
then pop into bios and make sure you are set for pcie 4.0. if your board doesn’t support that do not buy. facts you are being silly to even consider if you do not have pcie 4.0 set up on motherboard.
cool benchmark it in magician. cool its fast but no as fast as it states ok so optimize it in magician. run it in power hungry mode and make sure your windows power settings are not echo or balanced that has caps on performance related to pcie.
ok bench again happy I was as well. month later bench it yea slower trim drive and bench again yea faster but not as stated….all the time. there are other pcie 4.0 that beat this, even when the drive is filling this however just gets slower.
oh and yea its Hot by its own software’s standards about 50c it states hot. it idles at around 43c but after few hours gaming states too hot, continues to operate but do nit like my system to state any temp issues.
worth it kinda and kinda not. perfect for an os only drive or games with a lot of loading areas.
Easy and effective upgrade for the Ps5. Simple to install but be sure to add a heatsink. Full usable 1tb unlike standard hard drives which you loose a portion. Perfec
It’s fast and I’ve owned many Samsung ssd’s none have ever failed so I’d expect it to last.
The only negative is they are normally priced at the high end of the marke
Bought this to upgrade the storage capacity of my PS5. Easy to install with attached heatsink, bought separately. Initial setup test speed was as fast as inbuilt PS5 SSD. So far performance is just as good as PS5’s own SSD with no lag or slow down in performance. Transfer of files to drive and from it is super fast. Gaming is no different on this drive compared to PS5 SSD.
This is by far the best SSD you can install in your PS5, Qivynsry sell a heatsink I highly recommend getting in addition to this as Sony recommends one so it doesn’t overheat.
Using this in my PC and have to say it’s quick when doing something which can use the speed capabilities of this drive.
It’s not much faster overall in general use though compared to a standard 2.5″ Sata 6Gb SSD.
Still happy to recommend though.
Well what can you say that hasn’t been said already. I bought the 1TB to replace another brand of 4th gen SSD and the increase in speed is remarkable. Its performance is unparalleled. The cost is high though, somebody is making a high margin of profit!
Brought this to install in PS5, dead easy to install required a separate heat sync. Super fast, even faster than internal PS5 memory, glad I didn’t go for a cheaper option.
No issues so far, installed with a 3rd party heat sink from amazon.
Read speeds are around 5700mb/s as others have found. Some cards read faster but honestly this one is good enough. Have found no issues with loading times.
I got this one at 140 on amazon, so was a bargain!
So far, so good, pretty easy to install if you know what you’re doing, and then you format it, and that’s it so far zero problems played RE8 on it, Control and FF7 remake all are PS5 games, and they work no hetiching whatsoever Samsung is a leader when it comes to quality on storage tech.
The price well I’ll leave that up to you to decide if it is worth it or not.
It’s just a drive, not quite true. It’s THE drive. The one the others wish they were. It’s not for everyone. If you don’t need the speed it’s a waste of money. If you game, or do serious work, it’s worth considerinng that this drive is a combination of speed and quality, fast but also there for the long game. It’s built to wi
Wow what can i say if you like Extremely fast loading speeds on every game, i installed it on my z590-e motherbored it took me about 5 mins to install in and and i turned my pc on and it was there to install you games on from switching my pc on it takes about 2 seconds to login it’s extremely fast and I wouldn’t ever go for any other makes this is one of the fastest i have found and it a great price for what is I would definitely recommend it to anyone who like fast speed SSDs and great delivery from amazo
Quality SSD, as with most Samsung products, well packaged and arrived as described. Fits and works well with PS5 using a low profile heatsink. The Sony system seems to clock it at just over 5.6 Gb per sec transfer (presumably read speed and not peak). Will need time to see if any PS5 software titles suffer in performance and as to the longevity of the drive. So far, fairly easy install (Please read instructions for both heatsink and M.2 installation if you’ve never installed on PC MoBo). Quality product and fast shipping, thanks.
Paired this up with a QIVYNSRY M.2 heatsink 2280 and it fits perfectly in my PS5, installed and up and running in 5 minutes. PS5 is reporting a read speed of 5577.708 MB/s so about what I was expecting so more than happy.
Followed one of the many online tutorials for fitting these drives and it made installation very simple, easier than I had imagined it would be.
I have always had Samsung M.2 NVMe SSDs and this one, just like all the others, does not disappoint. It is amongst the highest performing PCIe 4.0 SSDs and even though it is no longer the absolute fastest, you know you can depend on Samsung to produce an SSD which will last for years.
Simple to install into the PS5 and I used the Quivynsry aluminium passive cooler heatsink Model No : HT-001.

After the release of the lates PS5 firmware update allowing you to increase internal memory and as my SS5 memory was 75% full I wanted to add more memory. The choice of drives with the required specifications is very limited and they are quite expensive.
I would have like a larger capacity but they are way too expensive, so I opted for the 2TB version for the time being, in the future when the price drops I will change it for a larger capacity and install this in my pc.
I do have a 2TB Samsung T7 SSD connected via a usb socket on the back of my PS5 where I have installed all my PS4 games and they have run without any issues.
I also purchased a Heatsink as recommended by Sony, you do have to be aware of the size of heatsink as where it is installed has limited space, I purchased the (One Enjoy M.2 Heatsink Cooler) which cost 10.99 from Amazon, at the time of writing it is out of stock, I presume people are also upgrading their PS5’s.
It was easy to install the drive into the Heatsink and just plug it into the M.2 and secure with the fixing pin which is inside PS5 M.2 slot. Just turned on the PS5 and followed the on screen prompts.
I have run games from this drive and have not seen any drops in performance compared to the PS5 installed.
I highly recommend this drive especially if you want to add more storage to your PS5, it is extremely easy to do and there are videos on YouTube walking you through the process. I think the prices may rise in the short term because of demand but in a few months as more manufacturers make these drives the price will drop.
Super easy to install takes about 5 mins start to finish and about a minute for your playstation 5 to format it. Price is high for only 1tb but it’s all about read/ write speed and this seems to be the price range for 1tb at the speed listed for now it will do until there is a price drop for M2 SSD
Installed this in my PS5 following the latest PS5 firmware update to unlock the NVMe slot, have moved games onto the drive and they appear to run as well as they do on the PS5 internal SSD. When formatting the drive, the PS5 rates the speed of this drive at around 5500 mbs, after some research online it appears that this is due to the SSD needs to be unlocked using Samsung’s magician software to get the full 7000 mbs (rapid mode). Happy with the current speeds provided but hopefully Sony/Samsung will provide an option to update the firmware to the advertised 7000 mbs speeds using the PS5 that does not require a reformat.
Bought this as a gaming drive so not using as my system device, and its incredibly fast. Tests show read speeds of close to 7gb / second, and wrote well above 6gb / second. In a real world test, unzipping a 6gb file on the drive to itself took about 3 seconds.
Combine it with the right system and this drive is incredible.
Bought this to use as a boot drive in my new PC build. It’s crazy fast, had no issues to speak of. Only thing to be aware of is that there’s no mounting screw included, so if your motherboard requires one and doesn’t come with any you’d also need to get your hands on one. Other than that, this is perfect!
Very happy with the purchase.
One-time password was required to ensure package was safely received due to high demand and mishaps with nvme purchases.
Unfortunately I have not been able to test and use the ssd yet, have to wait for playstation firmware update to take advantage of the internal storage.
Item is constantly out off stock everywhere so would definitely recommend purchasing here, alongside a heatsink of course.
Thank you Amazon 🙂
Had to re install in the end after not being able to get a good clone from a 1tb Sabrent OS drive. I think this may have been down to a windows 11 pre build rather than hardware though. After new install all seems good and speeds seem to be as described with less than 1/4 of the drive full.
…but anything else is fantastic. Fast and reliable. Attention, it requires SOCKET 4; it’s working absolutely fine on socket 3 but performance is halved but even on socket 3 works very well.
Indeed, you need a special screw that is not included; do not use SSD screws because are too big. Try something like “M.2 SSD mounting screws standoffs”
Got top speeds with a 5900x CPU. Highly recommended. I’ve also got a 860EVO and while much slower I’d recommend both to anyone. There’s a great review here with screenshots of speed. Check it out.
Many say this isn’t meant to be in the pro line up because it’s using TLC and not MLC but considering it’s a pcie 4.0 drive with crazy fast speeds anyway, in my opinion it’s still worth the purchase.
I bought this for 141 in an amazon prime day special and use it in my pcie 3.0 laptop and the speeds are just insane for this platform with the added benefit of not having to upgrade in the near future if i move to pcie 4.0 mobo………………Winner winner – you know the rest.
Just added this to a USB 4 enclosure for my M1 Mac Mini.
It’s fast, it’s even faster than you think it is and makes Photos actually usable on an external drive.
It installed first time, plugged in, formatted it in about a second and started copying data to it. Its so much faster than a spinning rust drive or even an SSD drive.
I’m genuinely astonished at how quick it is. If your M1 Mac Mini hasn’t enough local storage, get one of these and plug it in. You can even swap to it, it’s fast enough.
The only downside is how expensive it is 🙁
But it is so, so, so fast….
Being a keen PC gamer I’ve built my fair share on PC’s. I’ve gamed on HHD’s, the move to a 2.5″ SDD made the world of difference, loved the quick installation times, then had SSD’s set in raid, another reasonable speed boost.
Upgraded to this drive and the speed is just amazing. Depending on your motherboard, its incredibly easy to install and takes up no extra room or sata ports. Epic fast drive, so happy with the purchase – get it, and provided your motherboard can take the drive I guarantee you won’t look back.
This works fine with PS5 I’m using the beta bios and it reports back a speed of 5300mb/s which is over the 5000mb/s and fits fine in the expansion slot.
Like most of these GEN 4 NVMEs you only get the rated speeds in the 1TB and above models, and only in a GEN 4 slot. If you have GEN 3 slots and don’t plan to upgrade your motherboard save your money and shop around in the GEN 3 models available.
It meets the PS5 Beta Update requirements, but you’ll need to get a heatsink, like the screw-on one from the ELUTENG M.2 SSD Heatsink 2 Pack.
On a i5-1145G7 NUC with NVMe 4.0 this device easily gets over 6GB/s write speeds. Buahahahaha. Heats up quickly, so be mindful of that if you are like me using fanless Akasa Turing cases. I have it monitored by HWInfo and if it gets over 65 degrees the silent AC Cooling fan would kick i
I bought this for my PS5.
I’m currently using the (PS5) beta firmware and one of the enabled features was the activation of the m.2 port. I wasn’t lacking in available space as there is not a real lot of ps5 games released that actually interest me, I was getting by with my 4tb external drive and the stupidly small amount of internal SSD space on the console itself but I figured I would go ahead and buy a drive anyway.
Sony recommend you attach a heatsink to your nvme drive if it doesn’t come with one as standard,
After looking at factory heatsink nvme drives specifically the WD-Black SN850 1tb, it became apparent you pay a heafty price on top for the heatsink, At the time of writing it was 150 for the 1tb WD black and 235 for the same drive with a heatsink attached, probably hiked in price due to a Sony guy tweeting it was his drive of choice.
Anyway I decided to buy the 980-pro (this drive). It was marginally more than the SN850 and I’m presuming other people were showing interest as Amazon’s price algorithm jumped from 176 to 188 (then back down to 179 immediately after I bought it).. thanks for that, just my luck.
The heatsink I paired it with was the ‘EZDIY-FAB M.2 2280 heatsink’ (ASIN: B086X79CSN).
11.99 at the time of writing this.
Installing the heatsink and installing the drive was really straight forward, it fits in the bay nice and snug and the cover screws back down fine.
The drive installs (into the PS5) Samsung label/chip side up (facing you/installation door), so install the heatsink accordingly.
I have a external harddrive for PS4 titles which I will continue to use.
I moved all my ps5 titles from the console SSD to the m.2 and set the console to install to that drive from here on in.
I have been playing pretty long and hard today and not noticed any laggy frames (apart from a little screen tearing on AC: Valhalla, which happened occasionally when using the built in SSD)
Overall load times and performance is no different than the Sony SSD.
I do think the prices are outrageous, 350/450 for 2tb and the best part of a grand for a 4tb, hopefully the prices will come down in time, but as demand increases (when the firmware goes public). It wouldn’t surprise me if they get worse before they get better.
The SN850 is a little cheaper (none heatsink) and maybe a better choice.
Both drives offer the same limited warranty (5years or 600TB written, whichever comes first).
I can’t think of anything else to say, I should of taken a few pictures before I closed/plugged in my ps5. I will maybe open it up and take a few in the next few days..
Edit: There seems to be misinformation floating around regarding the removal of the Samsung sticker, It’s my opinion that you should not do this for two reasons..
1. It’s a thermal sticker designed to redistribute the heat, so it’s only going to help the tape/heatsink.
2. More importantly removing this will void your (Samsung) warranty.
Of course in the end the choice is yours.
Buy with confidence!
I hope this review helps in some way.
Purchased this unit as my other Nvme drive froze on me, I think that it had a lot to do with the software drivers supplied not the the unit themselves. The new drive Samsung 980 PRO 500 GB PCIe 4.0 M.2 is a well recognised brand with a good reputation for reliability, backed by a 5 year warranty, this is the main resin that I purchased it. I do have a SSD 860 Evo 1TB and have found this very good for game storage. The new 980 PRO 500 GB is for my new boot drive, and it is fast, on the first read scan it gave me 9350MB/s READ it has now dropped to 9156MB/s, Samsung say on the box 7000MB/s, so the drive is well within the supplied state. This is well worth it as a boot drive or above.
Firstly overall very good and amazingly fast as we all know.
The problem lies when you try to use this as your first drive to install windows on I had a nightmare where windows doesn’t recognize it and it’s in a different format and there’s no support at all the drivers are so confusing on which ones to download.
So if you want to use it to install windows you need another pc that has windows already running and format the drive and then use the commant prompt to change its form it was a nightmare.
But after all that it works flawlessly and it’s crazy fast like I mean crazy
Also sidepoint if anyone can explain why it was 970gb how come we always loose some thanks
My god it is fast. Just remember only the latest Intel CPU supports PCIe 4 data transfer speed. AMD have been for a while. Still works, just wasting your money as it will only run at PCIe 3.
Top buy and easy to fit.
Got 2 of these on sale. Astonishing value for money when used on a pcie 4 motherboard, mine is an amd x570. Read speeds of 6000MB/s have increased Unreal Engine 4 performance. Boot times are also noticably much quicker. Highly recommend and if you can get them on sale then I can doubly recommend them. Previous disks were 970 EVO Plus, these are an obvious improvement.
Rock solid performance and crazy fast, managed to pick it up in a sale, so it was good value for me, but regular pricing is less so, although for one of the fastest drives money can buy it’s still pretty good.
Easy enough to install but I had to install it twice as it was seated, but not properly. Most likely my fault.
However it’s fast, storage is fantastic and I can not fault the storage. At full price I wouldn’t recommend but for sure on a sale.
Saw this while browsing amazon a day before I was going to build my new PC… Had to cop after seeing the advertised read/write speeds!
Not disappointed at all, has made my new build feel all the more refreshing!
Depending what you want this for it can be great!
File/picture storage- amazing quick to open files and very efficient. Incredible read and write times.
Gaming- as to access games it uses a different function called random read/write. The speed of this is the same as my Samsung sata 3 ssd. As such it’s not any quicker at loading.
Instalation- very easy. Simple plug and play into your nvme slot. No fuss.
Overall if you want it for file storage then consider the product. If you want it for gaming then stick with an ssd where you can get a bigger drive for similar money.
Genuinely surprised at how fast this is, bought for more storage as only had a 500gb xpg m.2, ended up making this my primary SSD, also the Samsung magician software is a very useful and powerful tool, well worth the money
he Samsung 980 Pro is PCIe 4 and one of the fastest NVME SSD drives in the market as of June 2021.
It’s pricey but you’ll get fastest speeds currently possible.
worth it for me and I use the 1TB exclusively in my gaming PC.I don’t want no compromise.
this is the speed range on par with the SSD drive in PS5.
Having used first-gen PCI-E gen 4 SSDs, this drive is a welcome upgrade, actually using the bandwidth to its full potential. Expect about 6.5GB/sec read speeds from this drive. I bought an extra one in the hope that it will work with my PS5 when Sony eventually allow it.
Bit of a con, reads speeds are good, but within a very small time cache fills up and the max you’ll get is 1100mb write speed on the 500gb versio
Easily installed. Cloned previous C drive using Macrium reflect and it just worked !
Consistently high read and write speeds and programs open much faster.
Some users report the drive slows as the cache fills up. Restoring an image to the drive gets it running at full speed again.
Slightly miffed as I paid 124.23 on 14/02/2021 and on 26/03/2021 it’s only 97.99 (:-(((
Still a good buy.
EDIT
There is a firmware update, available through Samsung Magician, to address the problem of slow speeds after using for some time by forcing the cache to be cleared.
Samsung do the best flash memory and the SSD NVME drives are blisteringly fast. I got the 1TB 980 Pro to increase the capacity in my Dell XPS 9310. I wasn’t sure if it would work at the faster PCIe 4 speeds but pleased to report that it does. I get around 6,500 MB/s read and 4,500 MB/s write speeds. Everything is very snappy and super responsive. And reassuring to know there is a 5 year warranty.
It took me 30 minutes to install this tiny thing, update its firmware, copy my filled up C: to it, flip drives over, and hey presto my filled up 120GB C: is now a 500GB C: The free Samsung software made this all possible – absolutely brilliant!
The software doesn’t come with it. You need to search for “Samsung Magician” and download that – that updated the firmware to the latest version in seconds. No need to mess with the Samsung “Firmware Update Utility” which I’d downloaded just in case.
Then download “Samsung Data Migration” app – this copies your old C: (all of it – not just Windows) to the shiny new drive. My 100GB took about 15 minutes to copy. I created a “Windows Recovery Drive” while I was at it (USB “emergency” disk), using the Windows tool, not the Samsung app.
Each step (firmware + migration) shuts down Windows so you need to power PC back up. A “cold start” is always best to properly reset plugged in hardware.
After the data migration I had 2 drives with identical drives labels and identical folders/space used – that’s a good start! My old C: was still C: – I just wanted to check the new Samsung drive was “all there”. It was (this became E: – your system may differ depending on other drives you already have).
I changed the drive label to “Samsung 980” to avoid confusion.
Another reboot, into BIOS, made the Samsung “boot order #1”, which pushed my old boot drive off the top spot. Restarted…
Woohoo! Windows came up in a flash. No message about “you’ve changed your system please contact Microsoft” like old versions of Windows might have. It just worked. “Samsung 980” was now C:
Thank you Samsung software – the software made this the easiest major flip I’ve ever done.
Performance…my mobo (Asus Z270 P) is old school “PCIe 3”, not the “PCIe 4” this NVMe can run at. I figured I’d update the mobo one day and made sense to be a step ahead, so purchased my new “C:” to be future proof (ish).
The only performance test I did was to run “tree c: > nul” from a command prompt and roughly time it. “tree” walks the directory structure printing it to screen as it goes. Adding “> nul” just hides the screen output to remove graphics from the timings. tree took about 15 seconds on the 980.
Ran “tree e: > nul” to do same to old SSD. 1 minute 30 seconds. Exact same directory structure.
For this rather lame performance test the NVMe took 1/5th of the the time my old drive did it.
It would be nice if they included a tiny M.2 screw. The attention to detail with the packaging, manual, software, hardware is “pro” but the omission of such a cheap tiny thing is annoying. Luckily I had a few from old mobo boxes. This doesn’t merit an entire star being knocked off – the free Samsung software easily makes up for it, but nonetheless I’d expect OEM “white boxes” to omit such things not premium Pro products.
I gather most manufactures omit this little M.2 screw so let’s not dwell on it too much.
I’m very pleased with this. The intention is to install the new MS Flight Simulator on it. That needs 150GB which is more than my entire old C: drive.
A big thumbs up from me. Again, the free Samsung software made upgrading my boot drive a cinch.
Super fast boot ups paired with a x570 and 5800x.
I have 2 games on it but i dont feel they load any faster (wow and civ6) however windows feels much snappier.
1tb is more then you will ever need for a boot drive but if its the only drive then go for the 2tb one when priced come down.
Also very happy it will happly go full speed on the normal windows driver instead of having to use a custom driver like some drives do.
Lets compare The samsung pro 512gb vs ADATA XPG S40G 512GB RGB both 50% full..
Samsung read : 6380MB, Write: 4722MB
Adata read: 3162MB, Write :
Adata overheats quite fast due to the rgb as well, looks great BUT !!!
So I’m massive gaming pc enthusias and when these came out it was a god send because they are just so quick and reliable! I would 100 percent recommend these if you have a pcie 4 slot available!

Not my first Samsung SSD, and they have all been great.
Used in a new motherboard, with PCIe 4, so it’s amazingly fast.
Can’t go wrong with this SSD, maybe not the cheapest, but it’s great.
Got this drive installed and wow it’s fast (in benchmarks anyway).
Been upgrading my rig to Ryzen 3 and a RTX 3070 and this was the last piece of the puzzle so to say.
It was a lot more expensive than a gen 3 NVME but i wanted to go all out (pity i could not get a 3080).
Anyhow the drive works at the advertised speed and it does feel faster than my old SSD.
Was expecting some “buyers remorse” but am happy with it.
Took the plunge to getting this drive despite there not being that many reviews on it, and lots on the lower cards.
Yes you can buy 500GB NVME drives for 60 or less, but this is a much faster drive, with speeds of 5000MB/s common.
My mother board only supports PCIe 3.0, this NVME needs PCIe 4.0 to get the most out of the speeds. This is why mine is capping at 3.5GB/s.
I also found it’s important to install all your latest updates and a BIOS update with this card to get the true speeds.
This is the fastest Gen 4 drive available in the market at the time of writing. The one star is taken away because it should not be 205+ at the moment.
A word of caution that this speed is not achievable for sizes smaller than 1 TB.
See the attached speed tests for 250GB version and 1 TB versio
Speeds as advertised, 980pro vs 970 evo plus on pictures, to be fair 970 is almost full and run in the rig for a while. 980 pro on PCI 4.0 and ryzen 3700x gets your pc on another level. Great service from Amazo
With surprise I read the Italian reviewer who didn’t like this drive’s performance. A bit of checking and I found that his laptop doesn’t support the PCIE 4.0 interface. Please make sure your CPU and motherboard both support PCI-E 4 or you will be disappointed. Also make sure to install the Magician software from the Samsung site, it really makes this run at top speed. I don’t use benchmarks much, preferring to ‘feel’ if the device works more quickly. I noticed boot times are a couple of secs faster but it really comes into its own if you transfer lots of large files to and from it.
My only negative – and it’s a tiny negative – is that these run hot if you don’t get a heatspreader and or fan on it.
