I am only using it at 1080p, but it works perfectly on my M1 MacBook Air.

I didn’t use the supplied software, I’d already installed the latest DisplayLink Manager, and this unit worked first time just plugging it in.

I got this for a HP Envy 13 laptop which is a couple of years old and doesn’t support dual 4K screens – via a docking station I was able to get 1 4K screen and one HDMI screen.

With this device I can get two 4K screens at 4K resolution with a 3rd HDMI resolution screen on the laptop itself – brilliant.

Refresh rate is limited to 30Hz but for work use that’s fine. I haven’t tested it for gaming but that refresh rate will be a limitation so best to avoid if that’s your requirement.

    Otherwise excellent!

I bought this adapter because my mac (connected to a thunderbolt hub) was only able to make 1 external screen work. Connecting this accessory worked as advertised and now I can have 2 external screens

After three tries at getting the correct adaptor this was the one which work OK with my Laptop which didn’t have the DP Alt Mode option. So very happy that this adaptor works well with two additional screens as well.

What can I say it does exactly what it’s supposed to. If you have a laptop with only one hdmi port but have 2 monitors I would definitely recommend. Yes there are others much cheaper but from experience they don’t work all that well. This adapter works just like a 2nd hdmi port no need to resize text zoom or restart constantly. Five stars from me

Unlike many other adapters like this, it does exactly what it says on the tin – and well. It is rare for me to write a review but just how hassle-free this was to use needed commending.

As a second screen, have this hanging off of the hub on my display to daisy into a second display. Just works for me because that means just one cable.

Followed the install steps (download and install the software before plugging in) and second screen up and running without issue. No visible delays or quality issues compared to main screen connected directly to laptop via HDMI

Used to carry sound from a PC tower with only USB or VGA connections to a new monitor with built in speakers and an HDMI connection. Simple to follow instruction on set-up and worked a treat.

I wanted two monitors on the desk separate to the laptop display, my parents were struggling with the screen size on the laptop and did a lot of things that having two independent screens would make their lives so much easier (unknown to them) their laptop didn’t have enough ports to run two screens so this little device sorted the issue via a usb perfectly.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI needed to connect a second external display to the M1 MacBook Pro and found this as an advised solution in a forum. As a long time Mac user, I am always a bit concerned if the offered Windows solution really works for Mac as well, but after downloading and installing the software driver, it immediately worked. Both HDMI screens are connected to the same USB-C hub. One to the HDMI port, the other one with the Startech adapter to an USB port of the hub. Works perfectly.

I use this to circumvent the limitation of two displays on Mac Mini M1. I have the DisplayLink driver installed and this connected to the USB-A port and it detects it no problem. Works just like a third monitor. No lag, no delay, no problems.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOnly just unboxed this product, so not time tested yet. Was looking for a solution to the new M1 MacBook Pro only supporting single external monitor. This works the charm, hooked up to a USB-C to USB adapter, allows for the Mac to share to both screens whilst having the Mac screen separate (in essence having 3 screens). Worth the money!

I brought this for my laptop to allow a third monitor on my laptop mainly for text based work. I wasn’t expecting a lot as it is USB based. I plugged it and it worked, no hunting around for drivers or anything (on Win 10). My desktop appeared as expected. I then tried running full HD video, and the results were crisp and sharp. Even when plugged into a USB 3 hub shared with a full HD camera and DAC both of which were in use, the results were good. Quite impressed.

Works perfectly. Gives multi-screen not just screen mirroring. Star-tech’s customer service is also fantastic. Helped me around a few Apple update issues. First class, would not hesitate to buy again.

Works very well on MBP mid 2012.
I connected a 2d external monitor in extended mode.
Had to reboot MBP thrice and download latest drivers.
    All good.
    I would recommend it.

Works perfectly! Additional monitor stress free.
The cd does not bring latest drivers for Ubuntu but it’s fine, on 20.04 you will need to get the drivers from the DisplayLink website. All drivers for all Operating Systems are there anyway.

Works for Mac and not much choice in market if don’t have usb c so very happy I got this to run a third screen. Sometimes need to plug in and out as doesn’t work 100% of the time from boot up. It is expensive but as I already said this works and not much competitio

No fuss, no mess, simply unpack from box, plug in and use – a very simple way to add an HDMI slot on your laptop, that nowadays seem to only come with USB slots! Buy and use, you will not be disappointed!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWorking a treat on my Apple MacBook (Mid 2012). Running a Dell S2715H Monitor through my Thunderbolt port (via a Moshi Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter) and a Dell P2719H through the Startech adapter – with the Dell P2719H connected to my MacBook via it’s USB 3 chain (to Mac’s USB 2 port) , and the Startech adapter running directly out of one of the Dell P2719H’s USB 3 side ports. Happy to have finally found a 2nd external monitor solution for my old school MacBook! 🙂

After searching severally for an adaptor that converts USB 2 to a graphic port. A stumbled across this product and it works seamlessly. A bit pricey for what it does but works.

I’ve got a 2012 MacBook Air 11″ with macOS Catalina with an Ultrawide 2560×1080 monitor running via thunderbolt to hdmi, using SwitchResX to get the resolution supported. I wanted to run another identical monitor and was recommended this little adaptor to take care of the job. It works perfectly. I’ve now got 2x Ultrawide monitors at 2560×1080 resolution, along with the Mac’s own screen still in use. The install was a little finicky but following online instructions got everything working in the end. Highly recommended.

Had no more thunderbolt port available on my iMac 2019 to connect a second screen.. I got this plug adapter downloaded the display link driver .. and it works but had latency when switching screen with the mouse on heavy duty .. so I only use my second screen to monitor Consoles … but for the value it’s ok

5.0 out of 5 stars Connect to iMac 2019 ..

I was told by my graphics card provider (NVIDIA) that mine (940MX) couldn’t support 2 additional external monitors + my laptop screen even with an adapter. However I didn’t give up there. Made a little research, came across this little bad boy and now I can work both external monitors independently extending my laptop’s screen.

Highly recommend!!! P.S make sure you follow the instructions that come in the box first!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersStunning bit of kit. I have a 40″ Samsung 4k TV that I wanted to use as a 4K monitor. My current laptop could only go to 1920×1200 so rather than replace the laptop with a new laptop with a video card that can do 4K I decide to take a punt on this device.

I connected this device this evening to a spare USB 3 slot on my laptop, driver was installed automatically, then connected a HDMI cable from this device to my 4K TV. Set input source to PC and voila, now using my laptop with a 4K 40″ monitor. Default resolution 3840×2160 set automatically. I’m using 100% scaling and the real estate is massive. No noticeable input lag at all. I’m not using this for gaming obviously, just as a desktop to do development work on.

I’m using the Samsung ue40mu6400 TV as a 40K monitor and works a dream in 4k using this external video card, the TV supports 4:4:4 chroma which is essential to use as a desktop, save s over a dedicated 4K monitor which have rip off prices.

    Highly recommended.

Very useful and a perfect alternative to a new laptop when using a cheap laptop. Needed additional screen real-estate and this allowed me to connect a second additional monitor whilst my laptop has only one HDMI port. Well priced.

This has been used 5 days a week for around 8 months – no issue with reliability.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe contradiction between a (lousy) built in Intel graphic adapter and using Adobe Premiere for editing videos is obvious for any videographer. This external graphic adapter simply allows my laptop to do what it is supposed to do, and not using CPU power and RAM to generate graphics, but just calculate :o) In a parallel upgrade of RAM and adding SSD drives, it has made my laptop fly as it has never done before

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThese items are brilliant if you want to add multiple monitors to you laptop or PC. I have been using these types of devices for years from Startech and these are just an updated version that works with Windows 10 and earlier versions and uses HDMI connection.

You won’t regret buying one (or more) of these.

    UPDATE
    =======

Just to update this review, I have now bought a total of 4 of these (so far) and have them all running on my laptop with no issues.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersUpdate: after a quick exchange with StarTech, audio is working, so 5 stars it is!

I got this to be able to use my older laptop (2 years or so, still has USB3) with the new 4K TV I’m now using as my desktop monitor (to replace 3 24″ LCD monitors). I already had a DisplayLink HD adaptor, so I knew they were OK. This 4K one also just worked for me, from a graphical point of view. I had to set my Samsung TV into “PC mode” to get some picture improvements (4:4:4 Chroma is what you want), but now it’s nice and sharp. I was a bit concerned after reading other reviews about a 30Hz desktop, but for me at least, it’s completely usable, including watching video on youtube.

I don’t get any audio though which is kind of a pain. It seems to support it – I get a DisplayLink Audio device as a selectable option – but I don’t actually get any output. The TV side is fine, because the other attached PC is sending sound just fine. The controls for the device are a bit limited (a little right-click menu thingy in the systray) so there’s not much to tweak, either.

It’d be a 5-star device if I could get audio working, because it’s saving me from either buying a new laptop, or dealing with multi-monitor hassle.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersLovely piece of kit. supports 1900×1200. It doesn’t say it supports XP specifically but it does! Works with XP Professional 32 bit on my old Toshiba laptop perfectly.
Make sure you do what Startech recommends and install the drivers AND REBOOT BEFORE you attempt to plug the device in.
A startbar starttech icon gives you the customization to set target screen monitor resolution and whether you want to use their adapter to MIRROR the laptop screen, EXTEND or act as the PRIMARY screen. You don’t need to go into the windows monitor settings. PRIMARY worked perfectly for me and used all the 1900×1200 res of my dell monitor to display the 1400×1200 native res from the laptop and retained the HxW relationship perfectly as well without distortion. Installing drivers from cd was silky smooth. Fully up and working within 5 mins.
    Highly recommended.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSadly it does only 30Hz on 4K, but for browsing and watching Youtube is fine. I even manage to play few FPS on it, and although performance was not brilliant, I was impressed that it worked at all. Where it really shines is RTS.
In general, great item, and does the job. I’m not sure if 30Hz is down to this item not being HDMI2.0 or my TV, but it works just fine.
