Camera is v good for price and the resolution is better than others i have tried in this range. It is a great tool for use. Now that the software has been updated and can access the gallery on Android Phones is vastly improved. As with all thermal cameras do not expect resolutions like a normal image and remember this is not a 17,000 Fluke camera.

Camera Very Good for Price Range and Easy to use

The camera comes in its own hard case for protection and is supplied with a charging cable and lens cloth.
The app us easy to install and the camera very easy to use.
Very impressed with it so far and is a huge improvement over the snap on item I currently have.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe Topdon TC001 is a nifty little tool. It comes in a small hardcase to keep it safe, a lense wipe and USB C to USB lead, used to connect to your Windows based computer. Once opened you need to go onto the playstore and download an app, plug the camera into your phone and you’re away. For such a small device it is actually pretty powerful. I have used mine to check for a battery drain on a car, it shows the parts with current running through quite nicely. I have also used it to check radiators and pipes in my house and checked for a draft around a door. You can change the colour palette so heat is shown on a black and white screen or by the use of different colours which can also be really handy in certain circumstances. So far I am pretty impressed with it and I will be using this tool to help out with more diagnostic jobs for sure. One thing I will say is if you have a thick protective case for your mobile phone then you will most likely need to remove it to get the camera connected properly, other than that this is a great tool and I would recommend it.

    Compact but effective

I was going to use this to go up the loft, which is boarded, and check for any gaps in the insulation. But amazingly it acts like X-ray goggles, from the rooms below I can clearly ‘see’ where the insulation is failing, so saved me an initial trip up there allowing me to judge how much insulation I needed to buy for my initial attack on the cool areas. I doubt it is going to beat the pro devices but it certainly does exactly what I needed. Going to check outside next to see what the windows and door seals are letting out on a cold day.

Great for checking heat loss and temp measurement. Way better than the main competitor which it replaces due to battery issues. Takes a bit of time to get to master it.

I’ve had the larger units before but this is amazing just pop it into the carry case and in my pocket. When needed just plugs into my phone, definitely won’t be using anything else from now on. Works amazing checking faulty radiators and leaking exhaust gases.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis camera was incredibly easy to setup, both on Windows and on Android. I used it to show that the insulation in the attic of my newbuild flat was inadequate, with large gaps between rolls. Whist these gaps were visible, showing the significant temperature difference between these areas was enough to get the house builder to commit to fixing it, which will save me on heating costs, and saves me contracting someone else to fix it in a few years. Its small, and uses hardly any power. An invaluable tool.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis device seems robust and fitted to my phone with its cover thanks to the extended USB-C port.
I liked everything about it apart from image uniformity. Viewing a surface of uniform temperature, say a plaster wall at 18C at a distance of a few cm, gave a temperaure that was 1 to 2 degrees higher towards a couple of corners. It might not seem much but on some image settings and low contrast subjects was like vignetting (slightly offset) on an optical image. My old HTI-A1 camera was more uniform.
However, it appeared more uniform at 30C, and in any case you would be unlikely to notice it where the subject is much warmer than the background.
In other respects, image resolution and clarity, temperature range, image noise, field of view, close-focus distance (about 10cm) it knocked spots off the HTI, and that is without the app, which is easy to use and adds a lot of useful features, all for less money than the average selling price of the HTI three or four years ago.
Having an appendage stuck in the USB-C port is a little more awkward than the stand alone HTI but, with the addition of some velcro, the supplied USB extension would allow a more camera-like experience.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHad been looking at for a while. There was a 30 off voucher so decided to buy and paid 250 in total. February 2023. Delivery was excellent – Quicker than original expected and the item was well packaged.
Bought to go with my Samsung Android phone and also my Samsung tablet. Downloaded app and plugged in. Worked without issue.
Software could be a little more robust, rotating the phone can cause it to glitch. Also put software on to a Windows 10 laptop. It worked fine but is low on features. The Android version is much better.
Overall I’m please with my purchase.

Great product, buy with confidence. Software simple but download it and it works OK. Image capture great. Much higher res than others available and nothing to touch it at the price point. It works out the box, and great thermal imaging. Only problem is on some phones you may need an USB extension if you use a phone cover, but the case is well made and very handy for storage. I use the Topdon OBD diagnostic, and that is great too.

How do they manage to fit all this technology into such a small device. Really useful product. Found areas where my loft insulation was missing easily, this was a second use for the camera, the main reason i bought it was to help with my computer repair business, locating shorted out (Hot) components on the motherboard.

Used this to look for thermal losses around the home and was really pleased with the product, detail and app for use.

Can also see if radiators have air trapped / cold spots and this can help make your heating more efficient with knowing where the bottlenecks or issues are present.

I was about to purchase the well known FLIR brand but I read the reviews and it wasn’t getting that many positives and the TopDon product had higher specs and more raving reviews so based on that went for it, glad i did!

    Would highly recommend this product!

Great for showing thermal losses around the home!

We purchased this camera to help when insulating the dormer bedrooms in our home. It has proven an amazing tool to have as it clearly shows where the cold spots are and needs insulation or foam adding.
There is a photo option also so you can go around the room, take images of were needs sorting to refer to when starting the work

    Highly recommended

A great little camera, you can get data points from multiple spots, used to check for hot leaks in the water system.

my only downside is the length of the USB cable for computer use, I would easily recommend a USB extender to allow you a bit more movement when using with a laptop as it can become awkward in tight spaces

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWow what can i say. Packed with features for the pricepoint and looking at competitors this offers the best bang for your buck. I got with 30 off for 250 Square I think. Resolution is great, features are great identifying hottest and coldest regions. Pictures are great. Very useful tool having used more expensive (few ks flir in the past) and let’s be honest, thermal imaging should have a place in every mechanics, heating engineer, hobbyist and engineers arsenal. Can be used in the home, survey your property and others for heating and loss of heat. Identify issues invisible to the naked eye. Tells a completely different informative picture.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBought this camera to see how effective my home and other buildings insulation was. The image resolution in comparison to other phone thermal cameras is unbeatable. My images show where the chimney flue runs in the wall, the temperature effect of clouds and how much heat remained in the wall long after the log burner went out. I have used it to track pipework in walls and floor and it will even show the heat left on an object if touched.
I don’t think you will find a better camera at this price.

We recently moved into a new house that has mould in the attic. We bought this device hoping it can help finding the problem locations and it’s been pretty helpful.

I love how it just flicks into the app when you push in the device. You don’t even have to press anything!
The app is brilliant to use and gives you lots of different colour ranges for you to use. It gives you multiple chances to view your target and see its heat more clearly in different colours.

In fact the options on the app is amazing. You can track small areas, or large and add as many targets as you like.

Or perhaps draw a line and it will tell you the ranges of what it’s seeing on that line.

Its brilliant at seeing air leaks I have noticed, and heat sources behind walls that you never knew were there.

It has found leaks in my windows that I didn’t know were there! It target’s in on the coldest and hottest areas of what you point it at, which is so helpful.

You can set your temp target ranges, and change to the colours you like. You can record video and take pics at the touch of a button. You can even set custom distance ranges so that it gives you even more accurate ranges.

I compared it to a IR device I have and they were pretty close to each other in their temp ranges. Half a degree out here and there but nothing drastic. The normal temp device just monitors one area, where as the great thing about this device is that it sees things like let’s say a leak that’s 5 cm away that the normal Infrared device can not see.

As for the problem in the attic, it has shown areas with extremely low temperatures on the problem area of the attic, confirming my suspicions.

It also should areas of low temperature on the firbre glass and also areas where heat is coming through the house below and rising into the attic and through the sides of the fibre glass.

This device is so helpful in so many ways.

Me and the Mrs considered renting a thermal device for 100 a day, or buying one for nearly 1000.

I can not believe a device that plugs into your phone can be so affective and cost so low (compared).

A couple of things to note.

Because the device plugs in the bottom of your phone you will find your hand or phone strap (if you have one) will get in the way from time to time.

You also want a thin case as it wouldn’t plug into my sons phone with a case on it, but it would with mine. His is a thicker type, where as mine is a thin silicone one.

I also wish it was abit easier to move pics from the apps gallery to the phones gallery. I just screen shot the pics I needed as I’m lazy to more them in the way it wanted me to.

The picture on the device itself is pretty decent, and the pics it takes, good. The video quality is a bit janky, but it gets the job done and shows what you need it to show.

If you were like me and wasn’t sure if you should buy the expensive type or give this a go for your phone……….

Give this a go! Save yourself the money. It will do what you need it to do!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersFantastic little thermal camera, I have owned a FLIR one gen 2 for a few years now and was very happy with it until the internal battery started to decline. I saw a review of the TC001 and thought I might try it as a replacement to my FLIR camera. I was very impressed by this product, so easy to use, just install the app from the play store and plug it in and it’s ready to go. The 256×192 resolution makes a great improvement on the FLIR camera and I was surprised with the detail it shows. But what really makes this unit superior over the FLIR camera is the 25Hz frame rate compared to 8.5Hz (due to US export control). The FLIR camera uses two cameras, one thermal and one normal and used their MSX technology to combine the two cameras which gives really good image detail with a lower thermal resolution and I thought this would make the TC001 inferior but this is not the case, comparing the two I prefer the TC001. Just one more point to make is some reviews say the imagevideo periodically “stutters or freezes” this is completely normal as the camera has a shutter that calibrates it from time to time as most thermal cameras do. To sum up it is a very capable camera at a great price, I highly recommend it, only for Android devices currently and it also works on a windows PC. The Android app is very good with a lot of options to add measurement points (compared to the FLIR app), the windows app needs to be improved a bit but I believe is quite new currently and Topdon are planning to improve it in the future. There are a lot of features I have not mentioned in this review as it’s getting a bit long.

I had to re-start Android for their app to “see” the camera and inexplicably the camera runs on the supplied extension but not when plugged in directly, but this suited my m.o. anyway. I wanted it to identify insulation/draught issues around my home, which it did convincingly on its first outing. For the price of two days’ hire of a professional system I found it good value. The app identifies and records multiple spot temperature differences within a clear pseudo-colour image.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersComes with a standard USB adaptor, but not an old style mini USB adaptor, so I couldn’t use it on my phone – and I don’t think my phone (moto) has the facility to allow the imager to be used with it anyway.
As it is quite an expensive item the supplier could at least have included a second mini usb adaptor.
Anyway it works well on my laptop and produces decent usable images.
Not sure about its accuracy as it reads to 0.1 ‘C but claims an accuracy of only +- 2.0 ‘C. However this hasn’t prevented me from being able to see what I wanted to see and the consistency/repeatability of the image has been good, so I have confidence in the trends I’m looking for.
It’s unfortunate that the phone software appears be more extensive / sophisticated than the windows software, but on windows its still a useful tool showing trends of max and min viewed temperature in the image and an ‘accurate’ determination of temperature at selectable points within the image.

    Update /Correction
On further investigation, my phone (Moto E5 play) has a micro USB port, so I bought an OTG capable micro USB male to standard USB female cable and, hey presto, the imager was immediately recognised. I now have the equivalent of a direct connection to the phone but using blu-tac to temporarily fix the imager to the phone (or laptop) — it looks odd, but actually has advantages because it allows the imager to be positioned relative to the phone camera and should make the phone / imager ports less vulnerable to physical damage.

The imager is a remarkable little unit and works very well on both windows and android systems. Not having the more sophisticated software on windows isn’t actually much of a disadvantage as, to me, the larger screen of a laptop makes up for the software limitations. It gives surprisingly clear images (providing there is some sort of temperature profile for the unit to sense) and I was amazed that with only placing my hand on the strings of my guitar all 6 strings were discernable — the thinnest string being only 8 thousands of an inch diameter (I was just looking to see how fine a resolution is achievable).
The android system allows a camera image to be displayed/superimposed on the thermal image, but it takes a bit of fiddling to get the images to line up and the app only seems to record the thermal image. However, by switching apps between imager and camera I took similar photo and thermal images for future comparison. Again, with the unit’s high resolution, the need for superimposing thermal and photo images is reduced — so, for me, it’s probably not a facility I see much of a need for.

Apart from the lack of an adapter plug for use with micro USB phones, probably the only improvements I would suggest would be :
    1. for the windows system to be able to record images/screens/videos (as the android system does) without having to resort to a 3rd party program
2.for the windows system to be able to display a temperature gradient bar (as the android system does)
    2. for the temperature gradient bars to show more than just the maximum and minimum temperatures
    3. to have options for the temperature gradient bar to be shown or hidden in both viewed and recorded images.
Having said that, the existing options to pinpoint maximum and minimum temperatures at multiple locations provide more than enough information for most situations I can think of – unless one is looking to do something very detailed like validate a finite element thermal model of something, in which case you’d need to have a better understanding the accuracies of the readings than I have managed.

    This is an awesome product!

To start, the packaging is loverly, everything comes in a small compact box, containing the camera, wire and case

Once opened the set up was really easy, download the app and plug it in and you are ready to go.

I love the fact it has multiple modes and settings and gives real time temp readings. You can also set multiple points to give readings back.

The app is simple but clear and easy to use and I feel it has loads of features I haven’t even used yet.

Overall this is a great product and compares well to the other similar products that cost well over 3x the amount.

Only issue is you can’t plug it directly into your phone if you have a case, but the supplied wire sorts that for you (and personally I think it makes it easier to use as you can point it and keep your phone in front of you)

Purchased so I could use when required in a workshop environment, didn’t think I would use it very often but within a day or receiving it I decided to use it to check a suspected blocked egr cooler and see what the results where in comparison to my suspicions. Once hooked up to my Samsung phone and afew minutes of playing around with the settings it was possible to confirm that there was a blockage in the cooler on the exhaust gas side causing poor heat exchange to the coolant circuit . I would only of been able to confirm my initial suspicions before by dismantling the system and checking it physically so this thermal camera allowed me to see in real time the heat exchange and heat saturation of the component and backup my diagnosis without investing additional time and labour to do so .
Easy to use and excellent picture quality with several settings to enhance or refine the image your viewing , high recommended

Got this mainly for monitoring hotspots in forced induction engines although it has been very useful in my other line of work too which is waste management.
Electrical waste contains lithium battery’s which are quite volatile and extremely flammable when punctured which can happen during loading waste. This camera picks up any hotspots in the waste which can then be dealt with before igniting the whole load.
It has also located a charge cooler issue in a supercharged AMG Mercedes without the need for a stripdown by showing the area of excessive intake temps to the engine.
Easy to setup and use, literally plug and play.

I’ve been planning to buy a thermal camera for a while now to help with troubleshooting laptop motherboards. I had my eye on a Seek Pro, but someone recommended this Topdon unit to me. After I compared the specs and the price it was an easy decision. This unit is so much bang for the bucks. It has better resolution than the competitors in this price range and that’s very important when you’re trying to identify small components on a PCB. It comes in a handy little hard case so you can store it in a safe place when not in use. The unit itself feels like a sturdy, well built bit of kit. Hopefully it will last a long time. So far I’m very happy with it.

Golden Review Award: 26 From Our UsersTopdon have made a top piece of kit with this camera

The TC001 comes in a smart little padded hard case to keep the camera protected. The product is a good weight and feels very well made.

As a heating engineer this camera is a great tool. As you can see from the video, the property i was at, some pipes were surface mounted and others were under a wooden floor. The camera had the sensitivity to show where the pipes were running under the floor, a very useful thing if you didn’t install the pipework and need to know the pipework route. Alternatively if you had a leak or blockage then no doubt this would save you a large headache trying to locate it.

As you can also see in the video, you can set up multiple areas to be monitored, for myself I am looking forward to being able to go round and check the radiators for sludge with this camera, as showing the customer a thermal image will help them to understand the health of their heating system.

You can choose different colour schemes and a few other useful features like the ability to record over a period of time, set the temperature ranges and you can even take pictures and videos in the app and export them.

Overall very happy with this product and should be something every heating engineer adds to his toolbox

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersTwo things attracted me to this camera, first is the good sensor resolution for a reasonable price, second is the lack of an internal battery. At least as far as i can work out this device does not need recharging, it takes power from the phone. This is a key feature compared with say the flir phone cameras as their camera battery is prone to failure. Being the kind of item that gets left in a drawer for months without use leading to charge draining and batteries stored without charge are prone to fail. This item should hopefully be immune to this type of failure.

Image fusion is not what i hoped, it does not take a visible image and ir image and combine them like flir does. It is only a basic picture-in-picture mode.

I use it with an android phone with micro USB. You’ll need an adapter if you want to do similar. I use the one in the link below. The adapter has to have OTG function to allow power to pass from the phone to the camera. You connect the wire in the link to the wire that comes with the camera, you then have a single wire with male micro USB (phone) on one end and female USB C (camera) on the other end. I find using the camera separately on the end of a wire useful as you can manoeuvre the camera more freely.

Measuring heat loss in the home. Checking my pipes and radiators both in the home and on vehicles at work.

The item comes in a nice little zip up protective case, the camera wouldn’t plug directly into my phone as it has a chunky case fitted, but don’t worry. A cable is provided which is USB c to USB c allowing the camera to connect. (Also allows USB pc connection)

Brilliant thermal imaging camera. So easy to set up. Download the app. Then push the device into the usb c slot on your phone. I have a Samsung s10. Works perfect was running in less than a couple of mins. Just aim your phone and And it shows you the temperature.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersDelivery was quick. I have been looking for one of these for a while and finally got the Topdon one and so glad i did, this thermal imager is amazing. Camera came boxed and packaged really well and in a nice hard case. The camera app is easy to install and set up. I checked the readings of the thermal camera against my recently calibrated infra-red thermometer and the readings are spot on. This camera is a nice small pocket size and is highly accurate. Can’t fault it in any way at all. Brilliant tool and a great purchase.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersWith current heating cost going up got this with saving idea, and found much more use on it.
Just bear in mind it’s C type connection, my personal mobile is iPhone which not compatible with it so used work phone which android with C type charger.
Once got right connection devise it’s straight forward, light weight and compact size, very portable and easy to manoeuvre. Possible do screenshot and send straight away.
Also it has 9 steps of colours which helps determine the temperature difference. It also shows close images with much detailed structure.
Overall very nice compact thermal image camera. So far happy with it’s performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact and smart.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersNot only is this a great piece of kit, but it’s also very well priced. More sensitive than the TC629 and Flir 1.
Takes a bit to understand how to read infrared and I find the grey scale is useful as well as the hot red scale. The controls are okay but fiddly on a mobile phone as holding the phone is more difficult. Play around with the settings like temperature range to get the best image. Range seems pretty good (see image of ducks). Well built and solid feel. Congratulations Topdo
