Value for money with this flat TV, not a bad choice for a budget buy

The picture quality is good, sound quality good, remote control easy to use. I have all the channels I like to watch.
Excellent at this price point (it was on sale, too). Image is clear and sharp, sound is surprisingly good. Controls are easy (the remote could use illuminated buttons, though) and the TV reacts very quick to remote, turning on/off, accessing home/menus, starting apps are fast. There are plenty of settings to play with too.
However… For some weird reason Toshiba doesn’t let us to turn off or adjust HDR !! Some streaming video content (movies/series) apparently use HDR that this TV doesn’t know, in those cases instead of great contrast everything is waaay to bright and washed out. Turning off HDR would help these greatly – but you can’t turn it off… Luckily, there isn’t too much such content, still, it’s a weird decision to leave out this (imho very important) setting. Maybe a future software update could solve this problem.
To be honest you cannot trust all the feedback these days. I almost decided not to get this TV and instead was going to go for Sharp 65″ Qled tv which was 250 more expensive but in the last minute decided to give this one a try thinking would send it back if it was bad. I am glad that I bought this TV and am very happy with it.

It’s simplicity itself to set up out of the box. Plug in, follow the on screen prompts and you’re ready to go. Because it utilises Android, you can add whatever streaming apps you favour. And because of this, you don’t even need to have it connected to an aerial. I have this set up in my guest room via the WiFi, and everything that I can watch on my main screen on the living room, can be watched on this. It’s brilliant!
So, okay, it doesn’t have the build quality of’ high-end’ screens, and maybe the picture and sound quality isn’t reference either. But honestly? For this money, who’s going to complain? I truly believe you couldn’t get better. A ultra HD, 4k, smart TV, with all the bells and whistles for less than 500! Very highly recommended.
I always try to write an honest and unbiased review of all the products I order. My reviews are only my opinion, of course, but I hope they help.

The picture quality is fine. In the standard setting it was definitely over saturated and the colours showed some crushing, but this was improved by using the Movie setting, or by adjusting the settings yourself. Personally, I switched off the motion smoothing, but that is something for you to see if you like or not.
The sound is pretty solid, and definitely better than the standard speakers included with most TV’s. This does have the side effect of making the TV a lot wider, but for most people this will be worth the extra size for the better sound, and the lack of a need to get a soundbar. It won’t blow you away, but it is fine for the price.
The TV was really easy to setup, I just connected it to my phone using my google account, and it went and set everything up with minimal fuss. The problem I encountered though was that the interface seemed really slow to respond. You would press a button, wait a second and press it again, and then it would react. It even crashed when I tried to play a 4K video on YouTube.
What you end up with is a solid, budget TV with lots of modern connections, decent quality picture and sound, but with some interface issues. If you can get past those you end up with a pretty good TV.
After turning it on for the first time and updating the software, which was painless and very quick, I was ready to use it.
The menu layout is straightforward and easy for me to follow. I like the remote too, with the shortcut buttons to all the steaming apps I need quick access too. That saves me a lot of hassle.
Picture wise it’s excellent. Lovely dark blacks really contrast well with the vivid colours. It looks great in a darkened room at night and also during the day. I have even experienced sunshine on it through a window a few times and the screen is still clear to see.
The sound is quite good, although when it comes to this TV, I have it connected to my sound system so the sound is great. Through the TV alone it’s decent enough. The louder it gets the more it starts to sound a little muffled but that’s a very minor thing and not a problem for me at all.
My husband mounted it on the wall and said it was very easy to do. He managed to find a compatible VESA wall bracket and it connected to the TV with ease and it looks and feels extremely sturdy and secure on the bracket.
This is currently priced at 529.00, and for a 55″ TV with the picture quality and overall great features this has, that’s a very competitive price in my opinion.
The TV works very well. It is faster and more responsive then my 4K Fire sticks.
I owned a 36 inch Toshiba Regza prior to this purchase. This Toshiba has better picture quality and much better sound quality. I was even able to use my old remote control on this new tv
stays connected to the internet, easy to install and log into Netflix,youtibe, Disney+, etcno problem connect with my ps4 works great respond fast I am very satisfied. Happy with this TV .
Loads of sound and picture options and the smart options are fantastic. YouTube,Disney+,Amazon Prime, Netflix are all flawless and quick and look amazing on this TV.
The picture is crisp, with lovely clean images in 4K HD. There’s plenty of settings to play around with regarding sound and picture characteristics, if you’ve got separate speakers you will love the surround sound and Dolby Atmos options. Big plus is that you can link wireless headphones via Bluetooth, especially great for in the bedroom when only one of you wants to watch TV or if you’re a night owl and want to play an action film loud without upsetting the neighbours.
Alexa is built in so you can use voice commands by pressing a button on the remote.
I was after a 4K HDR Panel with decent viewing angles and great input lag/response times. I mostly play 4K HDR movies from my laptop via HDMI, along with AAA title games (Flight Simulator 2020, Forza, Call of Duty ect). Very fast response times, making it feel much like a decent gaming monitor rather than a laggy TV.
The colours are super vibrant, no complaints here. Viewing angles are superb, viewable from all angles however when you get really around to the side you’ll notice a drop off in colours.Colour saturation is a little bland for me in default, but using the adjustment capabilities is now set to my richer preference in colour. The TV software is great, no lag.
All in all it’s a fantastic TV with oodles of features, but I think it’s worth the money considering the quality.
First of all, it’s QLED setup is excellent, being LED backlit with and LCD panel in front might not seem as good as the most talked about OLED technology that’s seen a lot these days in TV’s and smart phones. If you’re stuck thinking about which you should go for, here’s my experience and thoughts. Unboxing was easy just as usual with a TV of this size, I would recommend this as a 2 person job, but I managed quite fine myself which experience behind me and was up and going in 20 minutes.
Included is everything you need, the feet for table top, an average sized power cord, Bluetooth mic remote, batterys, an instruction manual, and some parts for wall mounting should you need them. I went for wall mounting due to the fact of replacing an older standard HD TV.
On the rear, 3x HDMI ports, 1 of which audio return chancel capability, usual coax antenna port, 2 USB ports, optical audio out, Ethernet, satellite port and a headphone jack.
Setting up the TV was simple and easy, due to the Android TV software from Google, you can even set this up quicker from your phone which is excellent! With experience with Android TV already I was interested to see how the TV would handle it speed wise and it’s the fastest one I’ve seen, navigating through the home and apps page and switching between auxiliary’s is super fast, easy, and no nonsense unlike some other manufactures with their own slightly poorly developed operating systems. Working this TV is easy, and of course it has built in help features if you do get stuck.
Picture quality, I was quite surprised. Very bright backlight, verging on too bright! But this and all settings are easily adjustable with the press of the button and the menu pop’s up in front of the picture to the right quarter which is great. Just in standard mode, the picture is full of colour, you can of course fine tune all setting to adjust to your preferences, but this by far goes up against some other manufactures that claim to have the best ‘full of colour’ experiences. I put this TV up there against some other manufactures more premium line-ups definitely. Sound quality, with claimed Dolby Atmos tuned and an integrated subwoofer, is good but not amazing. In thin TV terms it does seem above average, but you can’t beat a good sound bar and sub plugged in via the digital optical audio port on the rear. With the Google Play store it probably hosts the most apps available on any smart TV out there, you name it it’s there. If you more technically minded you could even install 3rd party apps from a USB or the web to enjoy free services.. if you know what I’m talking about 🙂
Build quality is a massive plus, this TV is well built and looks expensive. Nice finish at the bottom no cheap creaky plastics, very solid. The remote is good and responsive, buttons possibly a bit flat, but good lay out. With the integrated microphone you can press the Google assistant and say what you want, even control smart lights and view Nest cameras on the TV. Overall very well made, quality panel, and a solid operating system. Unfortunately, I can’t comment on the integrated Freeview Play due to having a separate set-top box.
Currently reduced at 529, this is a very competitive price and to be honest this could be one of the best bargains out there. Personally I’d say excellent value for money with the kit and as a whole suits my TV needs excellently. As for other manufactures with similar spec TVs, you’re just paying that bit more for the brand name.
Overall an excellent TV that will suit anyone looking for a new modern feature packed TV for their home. QLED is no doubt as good as OLED if not better for its bright screen and vividness, but for less of a price. I’d rate this more stars if I could.

There is still some light bleed on this that is visible when the screen is showing very dark scenes but it’s really not bad compared to most standard LED panels I’ve seen.
If you feed the right content to this TV it will provide a superb image for the price. The contrast ratio is fantastic and the colours really pop. The upscaling works reasonably well if you have to watch a lower quality video source but 4K content is where it really shines.
Having Dolby Vision included is fantastic. It has really taken off as probably the most popular HDR format and a lot of the content you will likely consume will support it such as Netflix and even consoles. Colours look brilliant on DV-enabled content and having that support on this TV is a great way to future proof as this will likely be the standard for quite some time.
Sound quality was fairly impressive for built-in speakers. It doesn’t compare to a good quality sound bar or surround speakers but definitely above average for built-ins and will be more than adequate for a lot of people.
The TV runs on Google TV which is so much better than what you get when manufacturers provide their own ‘smart TV’ software. It’s nice and responsive, has the app store, and has Chromecast built in so you can cast anything straight to the TV. Again another great way to future proof and allows you to actually be happy with the software that comes on your TV.
The only issue I have had so far is that I simply cannot figure out how to adjust the brightness. There is a brightness option in Google TV settings but adjusting it does nothing. This might be an issue if you are going to use this in bed as it really can be quite bright on white scenes which can occur quite often if you like to watch YouTube etc. If I manage to figure this out I will update the review.
Overall this TV is fantastic. Is it the absolute best on the whole market? No, but at 479 it is definitely one of the best in its bracket and has enough features that should keep it relevant for a long time.
Picture quality – This is a QLED display, which is essentially a step up from you standard 4k LED TV. It still works the same way by shining LED lights from the back of the TV through an LCD panel to get a picture, but the “quantum dots” provide better colour and light output. The quality is noticeable straight away compared to a standard LED panel.
I’ve tried to show a side by side comparison between the OLED panel and the QLED in the pics. The difference in picture quality is noticeable but considering the OLED costs the best part of 2000 and the Toshiba is 479 at time of review then unless you want the absolute best picture quality you can buy, the Toshiba is a better option in my opinion.
Sound quality – I found the sound quality very good from the speakers. Bass levels were surprisingly good for an in built speaker and volume was nice and clear even at lower levels. The sound will be fine and adequate for most people but if you want a proper surround sound experience then you’re going to have to hook up external speakers. Personally I find the in built speakers absolutely fine for my needs with the sound clear and easy to hear.
Connectivity – Around the back it has 3x HDMI ports with one eARC supported , 2x USB ports, aerial in, satellite in, ethernet port, composite video in (3.5mm mini jack) and optical out. All the ports are located on the left hand side when looking at the screen with the power cable on the right hand side. The power cable is quite short at 1.5 meters so if you dont have a power socket very close you will likely need an extension cable. The power cable isn’t hard wired so you could pick up a 2.5A 250v figure of 8 cable at a longer length if needed. My power socket is on the left hand side and once the cable stretched from right to left it only gave about half a metre of cable to spare. If you’re wall mounting, the VESA holes are 200 x 200 which is typical for a TV this size. It’s not particularly heavy so two people should be able to mount it without any issues.
Connectivity via WiFi is straightforward which can be done by putting your WiFi password in via the remote or through your android phone. Bluetooth pairs and connects quickly and playback via a Bluetooth speaker or headphones is clear with no delay between sound and picture.
Software – It has Android TV built in which is a fantastic feature. Setup is really straightforward and took about 10 minutes to get set up. It’s incredibly easy to scroll through the menus and settings and installing apps takes seconds. All the major video streaming, music and games apps are available. You can also search the Google play store for more and directly install APKs if you’re more tech savvy. With Android TV you can use this TV anywhere you get WiFi. I don’t bother with an aerial or satellite as I can stream Netflix, iplayer, itv hub etc. so I don’t need one. You can plug it in, connect it to WiFi and you’re good to go. If you do have an aerial or satalite dish connected, the TV guide is handled by Freeview play and works well.
All told, if I was asked to recommend a TV to a family member who wanted a good quality living room TV which doesn’t break the bank I would absolutely recommend this Toshiba.
