It does what I needed, spread soil/topsoil evenly to create to correct environment for grass growth. Initially it seems huge, but 2-3 bags of soil do go quickly…but this definitely beats shovels, wheelbarrows, etc by the mile. Pour bag inside, close hinges and happy spreading.

Package arrive intact, well made components with a really nice and consistent black power coating on all the surfaces (inside and out). Hinges and latches for the drum door are well made and operate easily. This peat moss is a great value!

Works well, Im topdressing my lawn with loam. When I put it together I was think "man this is small" but honestly it will take a full wheelbarrow and with loam... that is more than enough going up and down a slight hill. Before i put the 10 yards of loam down I rolled out a few yards of compost. Works great I have very little to complain about so far, wish it was motorized haha. The latches could be slightly larger but not a huge issue.

Upon delivery, I was delighted to find the item in excellent condition, easily assembled without tools due to the accompanying installation brackets and hardware. Using the spreader to spread compost over new grass seed, I was more than satisfied with its performance. Though it was not able to perform optimally due to the excess moisture of the compost, it did the job well, capturing any small roots and rocks. Furthermore, I feel confident it would be a perfect tool for spreading loam over a lawn or garden as well. It seems well made, and all in all, I am thoroughly pleased with the product and am sure it will serve me for many years to come.

Great and durable produc
Just finished rolling 20000lbs of topsoil/sand 50/50 mix over my lawn to level it, followed by 18 bags of peat moss to cover the grass seeds. The spreader worked great to screen out bigger dirt clumps, rocks and twigs. Still fully functional with very little wear (sat outside over the winter too).
Extremely satisfied with the item!
Solid construction and ease of use. I love this spreader!

Worth Every Penny.
I used to spread peat moss by hand using a shovel and rake. This was a game changer. It makes the amount distributed even and smooth. It also took me a quarter of the time.
It was so great and fast that my neighbours are borrowing it to use. No doubts about this purchase.
Works good
I bought this last year to use this spring, I completed 260 square feet using this to spread horse manure, the manure wasn’t completely dry so it made the job a little more difficult, however to my surprise this spreader worked very well. Never had any issues with the spreader what so ever, a little under sized for my project, but worked well. Also not sure it’s worth the $200, but it worked well.
Also, just a tip, drier material used to spread works best.
4 star rating is due to size and price.
Nice product, easy setup and nice color , 4 of 5 stars because of the price is too steep to justify keeping this thing

Used it for the first time while spreading some soil conditioner on my lawn. My impression is that it is solidly constructed and rolled smoothly. I'm so glad to have this!

I planted some new shrubs and had a mix of topsoil, garden soil and mulch leftover. I put it in this drum and walked it around the yard and it did a great job of separating the soils from the mulch. I ended up just dumping the mulch back on the bed. I used it after to over seed a few areas with a soil, pete, and seed and it worked very well! Overall I’m very happy with it and it arrived in great shape and was easy to put together. Certainly a time saver over the broadcast from a shovel method.
you can get a wheelbarrow load of compost into this thing, rolls it out spreading across the yard. Much easier than a shovel and wheelbarrow and even spreading on the lawn. Easy to put together, about 5 minutes.

I was afraid this would be flimsy or overly heavy, but it was the exact opposite. It spread 125 cubic feet/125 bags of compost so easily. I even have rather steep hills and was able to push it uphill with little effort. It fits 2 cubic feet at a time (2 bags of compost). Tip: get a fine compost cause my first 30 cubic feet were a pain with all the large debris left it the cage. Then i switched composts to Black Cow brand and didnt have to empty out the debris the rest of the project.
Got this to apply fill dirt over the dam of our pond so we could seed it over clay. Wasn’t sure if the dirt would fall right through without adding screens as reviewers have suggested, but it worked right out of the box, perfectly, and saved loads of back-breaking labor hauling soil. Now if I can just find a place to keep it where the ever-curious bears won’t chew off the soft foam handle . . . . 🙂
I received my package today! It was packed well with all the needed parts for assembly in the basket. After five minutes of assembly, I was ready to lay down 800 pounds of peat moss and cow poo. I rolled this mean lean Walensee Compost Spreading machine out of my garage and got to work. My 8-year-old Daughter wanted to try it out so after loading up the hopper I let her have the first run. It worked perfectly, she was able to lay down an even 50-foot trail of poo and moss. At this point, my neighbors started looking at the progress of my project and how easily my new Walensee Compost Spreader could be operated by an 8-year-old. Oh, they were hating all right seeing that even layer of compost getting spread across my lawn. They all know who is going to have the healthiest-looking lawn on the block this year!
Mine came in perfect. I read other reviews on how it rapidly used up compost that had to be replaced often. For ‘seeding’ a native garden I didn’t want the soil to be too rich and wished to mix a light coating of compost/worm castings with oak leaf litter and roll over it.
SOLUTION=I bought a 2′ x 5′ roll of 1/4 in. wire mesh and cut and lined the inside of the roller with it. I wired it using the wire the roll was wrapped in in addition to zip tying parts of it. Worked like a charm. I used far less compost for my particular project which was the point. I am working on slopes in areas that already have some plantings so the 24″ was a better fit and weight for me. Still not easy on a slope area. I go area by area. I can both cast the seed with compost or worm castings by hand and roll over them to make sure there is contact with the soil or fill it depending on whether I’m working on a steep incline. Of course I go side to side in that situation and not up and down. It’s about 5000sqft. so a hand tamper was out of the question.
I bought this to spread compost over the yard, and it made a nice, even layer throughout. My only complaint is the number of times I had to refill it - it goes quickly - but I suppose if it was much bigger it could get too difficult for some to push it.

I ordered a Landzie and the Walansee at the same time (2 Landzies actually just to make sure I didnt get a dud), and surprisingly I liked the initial quality of the Walansee more… and it was only $177 on Prime.
I was disappointed in the Landzie’s light-flimsy latches, poor alignment of parts, and cheap feeling grips. Its finish was also significantly more cosmetically scuffed up than the Walansee, and its castings much less refined in their beneath-paint metal finish. Hopefully the Walansee works as nice as it looks. It looks every bit as robust as the Landzie, is priced better, and is nicer looking/feeling.
Gotta love Amazon Prime for this sorta stuff!!
(1st) I will share with you… 3 weeks ago we defoliated (Using Round UP) my ugly lawn in prep to reseed our lawn. We used a “Rock Hound” to “scrape off” all treated dead grass, leaving us with a huge pile of dead grass & dirt, loaded with reclaimable underlying top soil and thach. In an effort to salvage the in-twined “soil” I fabricated several wire screed plates, one with 1/2″ and another 1/4″ drop squares. After 3 weeks of rubbing , scraping these chunks of dead sod, soil & thatch, I opt to find a faster way through this laborious ridiculous effort. and “wall-a” I op’d to purchase this “Compost Spreader Peat Moss Spreader” and “walla” it works great. Instead of rubbing my fingers away this device to this point is …doing the job in half the time of rubbing … IE: so far. However I have several concerns with this “Spreader” (1.). The “Light Duty Door Latches and (2) Small diameter axles, approx. 3/8 dia. and axle bushings. I am hopeful these (2) bushings and axles, (The Drums Pivoting Points ie; (bearings) endure through several more 12 hour days of reclaiming my top soil? I understand the need for light duty, but: Both…a. The small Diameter Axels & Pivot points and (b.) hinges concerns me greatly. I hope this spreader endures another 2 weeks of reclaiming my top soil.
I ordered this a few months ago and just unboxed and used it hard. This is well made but still lightweight. I ordered it for peat moss and then told the area I am in the acidity does not like peat moss. So yesterday I was throwing topsoil in to spread and sift out clumps and rocks. Worked like a champ.

Idk why these tools are so pricey anywhere you look but worked perfect for my 1250sq/ft yard. Holds about 2 cu/ft of material maybe more, but the bags I bought were 1cu/ft each so I’d put two bags in and it seemed perfect. Spread with a 50/50 overlap and it was the perfect coverage. Definitely better than trying to spread by hand and much more efficient. Last year I hand spread and used 24 1cu/ft bags and this year I only used 16 using this. Would recommend for the average person for reseeding. Seems to hold up fine. East assembly.

It made my life easy. It distributes the top soil evenly. Interesting as a line shows when distributing the top soil as the hinge bar creates a line of no top soil. You need to use dry top soil. it doesn't work that well with wet top soil. the hinges are a little finicky but over all I like it and it does the job!!

Purchased this to help spread peat moss on my daughter’s northern lawn for seeding. However, before we spreader the peat moss, we had to contend with a left-over mound of dirt that had to be spread. We decided to use the spreader in hopes it would make our job go faster and smoother. Not only did it help us spread the dirt faster, it also collected the rocks like a sifter which put more soil down than rocks. If we had to spread this mound by hand it would have taken us a couple of days (especially as we didn’t have a wheelbarrow to help). It only took us a day to make short work of the mini hill, plus it looked like a professional leveling job by pros when we were finished.
As for the peat moss, when it was time for that step, we were well practiced with using the spreader and had no issues. Loved this new “toy”
After overseeding, I wanted to cover the lawn in Peat Moss to help retain moisture for germination. I had seen a video describing the process as the worst job of the entire project. After calling everyone I knew and trying to beg, borrow, or steal a spreader for a day or 2 I bit the bullet and purchased this one. After using it for the final step in the process I feel it is worth its weight in gold! Well made and not something that will be utilized a lot but still worth every penny of the expense.
A good tool for yard work .. spreads evenly
Liked the fact it is sturdy .. well made & the gate is secured & won’t just flip open .. also I like the handle
It rolls easy .. spreads nicely .. takes up space in garage but worth the effort .. I spray the ends of the rollers with WD40 after each use & clean with the garden hose .
Last year i had a company that replaced the lawn on my yard and it looks as last layer, instead of lawn soil, they just put fill dirt with clay and rocks and installed the patches on top. The lawn was fine first year, because patches had some soil but this year i noticed it started to fade away.
Distributing top dressing soil using the spreader in case helped a lot to boost and actually revive the lawn. The tool is good quality and good value for the buck. I wish the handle was a little longer.
The moral is to buy quality tools 🙂 and check what company does on your yard, even if they have good reviews on Google.
I had 1 1/2 yards of compost to spread and decided to give this compost spreader a try since doing it the old school way of using the shovel and leveling rakes tends to put down too much material.
Couldn’t be happier with the results, nice even spread, easy to load with the wheelbarrow, the latches could be a bit bigger but didn’t bother me enough to knock off a star. As some one in another review stated, this thing rolls itself once you get it going and turning is easy. The design and build quality are great, I can tell this will last me a few years and assembly was also quick and easy. I purchased this when it was $190 so definitely worth the money.
I would recommend having a another person help to make things go faster. I had my brother spread while I would load the wheelbarrow.
I bought one of these to spread compost on my yard. I’m planning to do this annually, so I figured it was worth the investment. The quality is good, and the price point is better than some of the other brands. I think my problem would be the same, regardless of the brand. The holes are so big, it spins out a tremendous amount of compost. I would walk 20′ down and back, and have to refill it. It probably would not have been any more work to just throw shovels of dirt across the yard. Either way it had to be raked in.
I purchased this to use when overseeding my 12,000 sq ft yard. It got the job done, but I underestimated how quickly it can lay down a bag of peat, meaning I was needing to refill it every minute. That resulted in it taking about 4 hours to get through 3 yards of peat. In hindsight, I should have gone with a larger size, but the cost was considerably more.
I think this unit is well built. I was filling wheelbarrows up about 2/3 of the way and dumping them right in. It was sturdy enough to support the weight of the wheelbarrow.
I would have liked to see larger latches as it’s tricky to close them properly time after time, especially with yard gloves on. I think two larger latches instead of 3 small ones would be nice.
The fun thing is the kids were able to help out and push it while I loaded and hauled the peat over.
This is allot nice then the OG Landzie..
I still think for what these are $225 -250 is a bit much for them But this is constructed allot nicer then Landzie.. 2 things that would make it better would be 1 the door hinges need to be on the sides not on the face that rolls accros the ground , driveway , sidewalk ect and 2 it needs a adjustable handle the fixed 24″ is too short all need to is few height adjustment holes and a push in tab that would lock in to the height holes.. Fix those 2 things and this would be the best compost spreader in this drum style.
Was shopping on Amazon for a peat moss spreader and was looking for a less expensive alternative to the Landzie spreader and came across the WaLensee compost and peat moss spreader. I was a little hesitant to click the buy button on this because there are no reviews for it. I decided to take a chance anyway and see what would show up at my front door. I’ve included a couple pictures and a video unboxing the contents from my purchase. I am very pleased with the packaging, shipping box had a couple of scrapes outside but nothing wrong with the spreader. Well painted and seems to be constructed well and feels really solid. Assembly was easy and even included the necessary tools to put it together incase you don’t have tools of your own. The WaLensee has 3 spring latches to keep the door secured vs the Landzie which uses 2 latches. I haven’t had a chance to put it to action yet but when I do I will provide an update if it doesn’t perform as expected. I don’t think it will be an issue though. Impressed with this WaLensee compost and peat moss spreader. Glad I took a chance on this one. You should to. Don’t hesitate. Cheers.
