I recently played Gibsons 221B Baker Street Game, and it exceeded my expectations! The immersive detective experience, clever puzzles, and attention to detail make it a must-try for mystery enthusiasts. The game’s nostalgic charm and engaging gameplay kept me entertained throughout. Thumbs up to Gibsons for creating a truly enjoyable and challenging gaming experience!

I enjoy this game but it does take a time to play it. The only downside is there is only one code book supplied and if you have 4+ players playing the game is delayed while players look up the code they have discovered. Otherwise grea

My friend bought this game some time ago and I wanted something fun to play with my partner, so I bought this. We play together as we find it really fun working together to solve a mystery and discussing possible outcomes, sometimes he will think of things in a different way to me and it’s really fun discussing clues with each other. When I played as an individual with friends it was fun, but much more difficult as you couldn’t divide and conquer and had to keep things a secret. While that way is much more challenging, I find the group one much more fun and a better way to bond with the person you are playing with. I highly recommend this game.

I was worried this would be too simple, but the storylines are complex enough to keep you busy for at least an hour each, (over 75 hours of fun) but still solvable enough to keep it competitive and interesting, and fast enough paced.

With many cases to solve, this game allows you to play detective and try to find the culprits. This isn’t a board game like Cluedo, you’ll genuinely have to think it out.

Could do with more notepads but they can be bought separately.

I wanted a game that was a bit different from the usual monopoly and appealed to my partners crime solving side. Each game is really different and it’s good as just the two of us or as a group.

We absolutely love this game!! It is a little reminiscent of Clue but it is a bit more involved and even more fun! This is a wonderful game that we play quite often! A game that I am so happy to have bought and would absolutely recommend!

Damaged box.. how can a box get damaged on the inside top corner of the base box unless it was already damaged before being sent out and also game was NOT covered in clear plastic as it should be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Damaged box

I always remember this game from my childhood being more fun and needing more brainpower than Cluedo. Some of the clues are like crossword puzzles in multiple parts so maybe not for small children but teens/adilts I’d recommend. Games last about an hour-90 minutes and load of cases so good value & I’ve seen you can buy extra cases if you ever run out. Easy to learn the rules too. Recommended

I like this game because there are a few different ways you can play it and you’re using clues to solve the mystery.
The clues aren’t too hard to understand once you play a game and know how it works. I prefer it like this than really difficult clues because it makes it more of a race if you’re playing against other people.
You can also play as teams or everyone can collaborate.
I really enjoy this game and it’s value for money.

This game is fun and makes you think! It may take you one game to understand it better but it is worth it! I would recommend that you play in pairs – helps with thinking outside the box! I bought this for Christmas and we had a great time playing it. I also bought it for a friend in the USA who played it with her family – again I got very positive comments “Jeff and Mariana enjoyed it with me on Christmas Day. It was lots of fun!”

We played four games over Christmas. A game of skill, but not too difficult. Enjoyed going round the board and collecting clues, then racing back to Baker Street when I thought I had enough to solve the case. Should keep a family entertained for many sessions.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThick accompanying book makes this look daunting. It’s not. Gameplay is basically a variation of Cluedo. You go from location to location to get clues (to the culprit, weapon, motive etc.) in a race against the other players to be the first back to Baker Street to solve the case. Clues are pretty straightforward as long as you read the case card properly. Only our 10 year old struggled with a couple of them.

Quite an enjoyable game to get you piecing the clues together, making this more of a “mystery” game than Cluedo is. Nice box and board design too. Bought it when the price was a bit lower so felt like good value when you consider there are 75 cases to solve (equalling 75 games) and you can purchase an expansion pack if you complete them all.

Simply put, it plays very similarly to Cluedo/Clue – you roll the dice and you move around the board (in this case London rather than a mansion), but instead of the deduction you get from other players and their cards, you get your clues from the included book. Some are matter-of-fact, some hint at the culprit’s name.

I have played this game with a range of ages, from 15 to 50ish and we all loved it. It helps if you enjoy logic problems as this game will have you thinking. The only drawback was the sticky label on the front of the box but after careful peeling it came off without damaging the box.

This is a good quality game with a lot of thought put into it, same basis as cluedo, but more complex. Its not a game to be rushed, so need plenty of time to absorb all the info.

  18.  United Kingdom

It’s a good game lots of crimes to solve but some of the clues are just too confusing. Could also do with two dice as it can take a while to make it round the board. We had managed to figure out the killer and motive but the clues for the weapon were just too hard. It was the first one we tried so maybe next time will be easie

I got this game for Christmas to play, since my daughter was a big fan of Sherlock Holmes. The instructions were a bit hard to understand personally but we soon learnt from YouTube the rules of the game. We played the first case and it took us a while! (Almost 2 hours). It’s a great game to spend time with friends and definitely gets you thinking, it’s fun making the connections.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersA very good and cleverly written game! This is not just a re-packaged ‘Cluedo’!

There are 75 cases in this box (and you can buy expansion packs once you’ve finished them). Each case is written on a card. The card is read out and pertinent information should be recorded to help your investigations. Be warned, it is often complicated and cryptic!

When the game is underway you throw the dice to take turns to visit each of the establishments on the board to gather clues. These can be obvious, cryptic, or try to throw you off the scent. You record your findings on a sheet of the printed paper provided and, once you’ve cracked the case, race back to Baker Street to reveal your findings!

A two-player game will take around an hour per case, depending on the clues and the difficulty of the case.

Set up atmospheric lighting, put on some background music, grab a drink and settle yourself in at 221B Baker Street!

    The Game is Afoot!

very rarely do i buy a board game as they tend to promise so much more than they deliver, but this one made me curious, so having bought it now to play it. Played with just two players and both of them adults, the game is well thought out and makes you use your brain, although the instructions make it seem complicated when starting to play its a lot more understandable, go round the board (anyway you want to) after rolling the dice, call in at any of the locations on the board and obtain a clue to solving the mystery, an enjoyable way to spend an hour and the game is value for money.

We got this game, as the family really likes Cluedo (2 adults, a 13 and a 9-year-old). I thought this would be the perfect graduation from Cluedo. It has proved exactly that.
At one point my 13-year-old daughter had a full A3 pad out and under the table piecing all her clues together. At another point, I got cocky and thought I guessed the right killer, which lead me down the completely wrong path for a motive.
It does recommend 10 year olds and up, considering that my 9 year did find it difficult, and ultimately left the game, the age recommendation is pretty accurate (for us).
I’ve only given 4 stars for Value, as the pieces (player pieces and key/badge cards are pretty cheap looking/feeling).

Bought this game to take on a week of rest and relaxation with mum and sister.
As three adults we found the game to be enjoyable and quite fun!
I expected a glorified version of Cluedo, so I was pleasantly surprised to find there’s a lot more to it than simply a ‘process of elimination’. The gist is that you visit ‘buildings’ to collect clues which may end up being cryptic, statements, or ‘clue one of 3’ type clues. There’s also an opportunity to ‘lock out’ your opponents from the buildings to avoid them getting vital clues. We didn’t feel the need to use these padlock and keys however, I imagine with 6 people playing it may help to make the game more difficult and exciting.
All in all, a good buy, & good value for money. We’ve only done 10 of the 75 missions included so plenty of game play left. Plus I believe extra mission packs can be purchased which is great.
I would say it’s suitable for ages 15 and up. Any younger, and kids probably would struggle with some of the clues as some relate to general knowledge subjects.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersAwesome game, that’s aimed more at adults and older children, though my six year old niece is very intrigued by it and enjoys joining in when she can.
We tend to play as a group as it’s really fun trying to work out all the clues, motives etc together as it allows us to air out ideas openly. We haven’t been brave enough to go it alone yet but it would both make it longer to play each round and add another level to the game as you try to slow down your opponents from solving the crime before you.
Overall a well thought out game that really makes you think and becomes rather addictive. With a great range of mysteries to solve, that progressively appear to get harder the further through the pack you get. We all loved it!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMy sister and I played it at the dinner table and we’re enjoying it. She read the books and the series while I’d just seen the show. We both ended up really scratching our heads at the clues. It’s a bit fiddly to keep having to refer to the clue book and I suspect halfway through the cases the clue book should be quite battered up. (Hence the 4 stars)
Other than that, very fun game! Clues are tricky to understand, and you’d need a shrewd mind to understand them. (Tried playing it after a couple glasses of wine, didn’t work out very well – lost) The game came nicely packaged and nothing was missing as far as I can tell. Game pieces are heads of Sherlock in multiple colours and includes one die. It can be played with 2 players as the game focuses on the case and not as much so against each other. Takes a while to complete a case depending on how smart your players are and how fast they can get around the board.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our Userslove the game, for years I’ve thought about how the game Cluedo could be improved, but never really done anything about it and here we are with Gibsons take on the detective game. Every time you play the story is different, the clues are different and the solutions are different. You do have to read and think about the known facts, or story line carefully and you can’t take all of the clues at face value.

The game can be tweaked a little to make it even better, for instance you can effectively tape off an area to prevent others from entering a place to get the clue by placing a card on it, which is exactly what would happen in real life. However, the game rules suggest you’d need a blocking card for every entrance when in real life the whole area would be out of bounds until the police had finished gathering evidence. Therefore we decided you should only need one card to block the park or the docks and only one key card to allow entry to get the clue. Sounds complicated, but it’s not in practice.

Another is the use of the carriage, or cabbie. You can use them to go anywhere, but the instructions suggest an exception should be 221b Baker Street. We decided you could use a cabbie to 221b, but only to the door. You can’t enter till your next go. These variations seem to work for us and I’m sure there could be others.

Overall, a really good and intriguing board game.

Wonderfully simple to play but not easy to solve the cases takes some thinking. What you do is go from location to location on the board uncovering clues on the board. When you land in a location you look at the case card and look at the number clue in the back of the instruction booklet and note it down on your piece of paper. When you think you can solve the clue you must go back to 221b baker street and look in the book if you are right if you are you reveal to the players you are. We always write down what we think it is before looking so the player cannot cheat. If they are wrong they cannot reveal what their choices were they just say I am wrong and are out of the game. Great value for money the only thing wrong is once the 75 cases are complete the game is done. Could do with expansions if it had more cases would give a 5.

This is a mixture of a Cluedo like game and the Sherlock Holmes Puzzle Collection book.
I would have preferred it to have come in a smaller box – the board folds down square so I’m not sure of the point of the unwieldy size of the box.
The board shows a Cluedo like maze of buildings rather than rooms and it only takes one or two plays to see the quickest way round.
The cases are dastardly and it is essential to make notes because there are a lot of characters with a lot of traits and a lot of clues to keep track of.
It is very thought provoking and the answer can pivot on one tiny clue so one must pay attention to everything offered.
We love the Sherlock Holmes head playing pieces. The board itself could be clearer – it could prove difficult in low light or for the partially sighted but I am sure it was drawn to reflect the Victorian period.
The game itself – we found the first time we played it a bit drawn out because we were unfamiliar with it and that delayed us from a second game but the second game was most enjoyable because we had the measure of the basics and could concentrate on the point of the game. This would make a great gift for any fan of the great Arthur Conan Doyle and his muse Sherlock Holmes.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersIf you like Cluedo you will like this – although it may not be suitable for younger players (under 10?) as a little bit more skill is required. Basically you start with a puzzle to solve and then move from location to location getting clues. Each time you enter a location you read a clue in the booklet corresponding to the puzzle that you are doing – so only YOU read the clue when you enter the location. The clue may or may not be useful. You are also able to block and unlock locations with the use of “keys” – this allows you to bluff and double-bluff your opponents into thinking there may be some reason for them to visit the location (when there isn’t!). You can also take short cuts from some locations to another location. A good mixture of luck and skill – luck in that it involves dice and you never know whether you are going to get a useful clue or not; skill in that you have to interpret the clues (which can have double meanings and are not straight forward) and use the short-cuts available to move to different locations quicker and by bluffing your opponents by locking a location. Once you run out of puzzles to solve you can buy additional puzzles to use on the same gaming board. A game for 2 players can take about 1 hour.
