As a skincare formulator the spear is a valued addition to an already purchased ph tester for emulsions

Best, affordable pH meter out there for the food hobbyist. My last probe lasted a year and was getting difficult to get a good calibration so ordered this new one. Easy to switch out and calibrated right up. I’m probably good for another year. I do charcuterie and also lacto fermentation. That’s what this meter was designed for. Be great for cheese making and sourdough also.
Now the few people who left bad reviews. Several said don’t use on soils. Absolutely right, using this for the wrong application will ruin the spear probe in no time. This probe is for FOOD, not solid or course materials like soils. Proper care, cleaning and storage and it will stay reliable for quite a while.

Only 4 months later my ph tester no longer works. The ph never fluctuates and is stuck at 7.0 no matter what. I have tried to calibrate it with Apera calibration fluid and properly stored with KCI storage solution.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI’m a baker and use this to check the pH of my sourdough cultures and the dough as it develops. It’s very easy to use and gives a quick reading with compensation for the temperature.

My only issue with it is that it has to be stored upright so that the tip is always in contact with the KCl solution. I wish they would design a better cap for it so that it could be stored horizontally.
