Better than shavers 20x the price
I bought one a while back for travel, then another, then another. They work better than my 200 shaver and are more comfortable. OK, they don’t last as long and battery life isn’t brilliant, but at the price they are I’ll continue to buy and use them.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good shave
I bought the shaver as a backup, and a holiday alternative to wet shaving. It’s very good for the price. Not quite as close as a wet shave but near enough. I’m happy I chose the Braun MobileShave.
Brillia
We were to be away on holiday for one month and I currently use a rechargeable Braun at home so buying a Braun travel razor made sense. This was an excellent purchase and for the whole month of shaving the 2 x batteries worked perfectly. Good shave.
Great Little Travel Razo
I had an earlier version of this many years and eventually wore out the foil. I’m so pleased that I’ve purchased a new unit.
Used mainly as a tidy up after shaving, this gives a nice close cut and reaches awkward places such as directly under your nose. It’s also great for trimming side boards.
Batteries last a long time and it’s very ergonomic in its design.
All in all, highly recommended.
If you have very little facial hair this product is basically all you need. It is sufficient to trim short stubble that grows overnight and can give a relatively close shave. Longer facial hair would have difficulty being trimmed however. It’s a rather decent size, not tiny nor too large; it trims well and is safe and easy to use. Waterproof so you can clean it under a tap; brush is included so you can clean the blades if you don’t wash it under water. It doesn’t seem to be designed with heavy usage in mind though, so people with a lot of facial hair and shave regularly should probably consider other options.
This is my third one!! They lasted years.
If your shave each day this is the razor for you, I was in the Army and we couldn’t have stubble before 12 noon ( 12 o’clock shadow)
If I shaved at 4/5am by noon it looked like I hadn’t shaved so I had to nip off and use this razor…it gives a closer shave than a blade and if I use a blade I finish my face with this, smooth as a babies bum. Don’t expect to shave three days growth off with it though.
I’ve have really expensive shavers and this is better. I highly recommend it.
I do have a face like columbo so I use it twice a day to keep me looking pristine.
My best travel partne
I love it.
It helps me trim down my stubble on the go. It’s small, does the job well and the batteries last literally forever (your mileage may vary depending batteries you use though). Foil is replaceable and you can buy a spare part if it’s ever damaged. Good thing I don’t have to replace the entire thing when the most vulnerable part gets damaged.
I always keep one in my travel luggage and served me well for years.
That’s some of the best 16 I’ve ever spent.
This thing is so well designed I prefer it to any other 2 foil shaver i’ve used, even Panasonic ones. With a brush built in it’s super portable and just works when you need it. Last one I had worked for 5 years until I left it on holiday by accident. If you wash it with soap after every use it will last for YONKS. Bargain for the price. Don’t waste money on anything else under 100.
I bought to take on a holiday for a week as usually wet shave. All I can say is it does the job expected, not obviously as good as a wet shave but will come in handy in the future.
I bought this shaver specifically for travel and holidays, though for this review I will compare it with my everyday shaver, which is a three-head rotary shaver with inbuilt rechargeable battery.
First off, the M90 is clearly designed for travel – it’s small and compact, with a swivelling head protector which also locks the on/off switch, a neat slide-out hair trimmer and a cleaning brush clipped into the base. My home shaver is much bulkier, has no on/off protection and the trimmer is a push-on accessory.
Now, performance – the shaving head on M90, being a single-blade reciprocating cutter, gives a slower shave than my rotary shaver, but it is smoother and closer, with no nicks, cuts or razor burn. It will do wet or dry shaving and the head can be rinsed under the tap. The home shaver scores by being faster and more manoeuverable but the end result is not quite as good.
One notable lack is a battery life indicator. I think because it accepts a variety of AA sized batteries, including alkaline and NiMH, it may not be possible to do this. In practice you have to have a spare set on hand just in case.
So there you are: it’s cheap, it’s built for travel, and it gives a close shave. I think it’s a winner.
Good but not as good as the old model
Great compact design and easy to operate although not so sure about the sliding trimmer. Don’t think it’s as good as an old model I have had that I bought in the 1990s that has just given up the ghost in but does the job as a back up to a wet shave and for travelling. If gives as good a service as that one I will be pleased. Don’t expect a close shave equal to a wet shave though or you’ll be sorely disappointed. Would recommend.
Good bargai
It’s a good shaver if you use it often. It won’t handle a beard over two days old except for a young man’s, I guess but I’ve used these for years with no issues. You can buy spare foils and cutters for them, but they’re not much cheaper than a replacement shaver. For the price, it’s excellent and I just bought a new one. The old one’s foil became damaged and it was easier to buy a whole new shaver than a replacement foil. This new one is definitely smoother and quieter in operation, so either the old one was more worn out than I thought, or Braun improved their stock…. I think the former is more likely….
Braun PocketGo Mobile Shave Electric Travel Shaver, for On The Go
Very happy. As I’ve got older, my stubble doesn’t look so chic! That’s why I need to be able to have a clean shave but without the irritation. For years, I gave up on shaving because I would continually get spots which is one of the reasons I just had stubble all the time. It’s nice to go back to an electric razor and discover that I’m not getting spots anymore. Maybe it’s age or maybe it’s the quality of the razor or a combination of the two. With my grade 2 shaved head, I have a neat and clean look with a sporty edge.
Brilliant little shave
I love the battery life with these shavers, and they use real batteries too, so you’re not carrying yet another charger around with you. Just load up with a couple of quality batteries snd away you go. I get about a month out of a set, but this of course will be different for everyone. It’s a nice size too, so doesn’t take up much space in your bag, and it has a nice built-in foil guard and power lock so it doesn’t go buzzing embarrassingly at airport security! This item is an additional purchase to keep at home, as my other original one stays in my travel bag to use on long haul flights, hotels etc when I’m away – which is a lot! Cheap, cheerful, and effective – highly recommended!
This razor out performs more expensive models.
Quite simply, you can not beat a single foil razor for a smooth & close shave.
Having persevered with double foil shavers for many years, I decided to try this Braun M90. This single foil razor out performs far more expensive razors, that are supposedly full of advanced features. As the single foil razor head is narrower, it really flows over the contours of your face & it’s easier to control the amount of pressure applied, as it gives better feedback.
If you use a good set of rechargeable AA batteries, then it will perform as well as any rechargeable razor, but with the benefit of being able to easily replace the batteries if required.
The razor is very well designed too, with a plastic protector that swivels to cover the foil. Cleaning brush is handily clipped to the base of the razor & you can easily remove the foil & cutter for cleaning. Razor is washable too.
Although it is marketed as a travel razor, it’s a very practical razor for everyday use.
Only negative thing is the pop out trimmer – Not very useful.
A superb little razo
I’ve bought used low cost ‘Aldi/Lidle/unbranded razors before. Its false economy, ‘buy cheap buys twice’ seems apply but not with the M90 – For 15 the performance of this razor is amazing:
1) Battery powered 2xAA – ideal for travel/in the car!
2) A foil guard to prevent damage when thrown in your glove box/backpack/suit case that doubles as a lock to prevent accidental switching on .
Performance wise, lets compare to a Braun Series 9 (for example) and this is the good part: Speaking for myself I have rather tough stubble/growth and this little gem cuts through just as well as the top models – it does take a little longer/extra passes BUT not by much. So is the series 9 twice as good? perhaps time wise, not the finished result and the series 9 is certainly not 3 times better and of course the M90 is a tiny fraction of the cost!
If you are on a budget it this model could certainly pass as your main razor rather than a glove box/travel backup.
Get the M90 you won’t be disappointed.
Ok as a backup but not a close shave
Not sure about battery life yet but if I only wanted this as a backup for my wet shaving kit so I shouldn’t need to keep buying new batteries. It’s not the closest shave by any means and it’s pretty useless on slightly longer and softer beard growth. But ok for just a quick once over to keep control after a day or so of whiskers growth. Maybe worth keeping in a travel/car emergency bag. I was going to give this 3 stars but then I realised that at just 16 it’s actually doing what I expected and I have had much more expensive shavers that have performed little better.
4.0 out of 5 stars No more cuts, decent clean shave
I used to shave with Gillette Mach 3 shavers back in the day, every other day, but I decided to keep stubble for a number of years until the last 2 years I started to keep a beard…long story short tried clean shaving again for a change but started to get spots from ingrowing hair etc. With this Braun however, no spots, ingrowing hair, slight razor burn but I reckon that’s down to me not being used to clean shaved and perhaps my technique has been lost. It’s a fairly clean/close shave so it’s the best of both worlds of a shaver and a trimmer. I just have to say though the hair does grow back quicker than a clean shave but I can compromise as I get no more of the side effects I used to from clean shaving, but I look clean shaven. It also has a detailing tool, although I haven’t really tried it and from my experience, they’re usually not that great, but who knows with this one. It’s washable, according to the manufacturer. You can pop the head off and on easily for easy cleaning. It has a protective 360 swivelling cover on and does seem well built all round.
Can’t comment on the battery life as it takes AA batteries so depends on the batteries you use. Fits nicely in the hand, and looks nice but is all plastic but you can’t complain as right now it costs 16 (I bought it at 17.50). Worth it for me because even though it’s plastic, it’s a lot of bang for your buck a feels nice quality.
If you have sensitive skin and suffer from razor burns, spots, ingrowing hair, etc, I definitely recommend this to you. No cuts, or pulling hair. You do have to trim your hair short enough though before you use it as not to pull your hair
Recommend imo.
Appears to be good for the price, Battery holder not as good os old model
I had the old model of this shaver and it served me reliably for about 10 years plus in fact it is still working.
I liked the idea that this one was supposedly waterproof and can be used in shower or rinsed out under a tap.
However, the the foil needs a thin application of light machine oil if you wash it too often. I would have given 5 star
rating but after about a week’s use, the razor stopped working. This appears to be due to the batteries moving.
If the unit had better i.e. longer, battery contact springs this would not have happened. Never happened once on the old model. The beard/moustache trimimmer is not wide enough IMO. Can’t judge battery life yet.
This is honestly the best shaver I have ever used. I purchased a series 3 shaver from Amazon last year and this little thing cuts better and gives me a really close shave and really honestly as close as any good wet shaver.
I cannot understand why some of the reviewers have given only one star but I think they are reviewing the wrong item because this is unbelievably good.
It is well designed and the M90 has the sideburn and mustatch trimmer whereas the M60 has not.
There is also a little brush that fits very snugly into the bottom battery cover. It does take two AA batteries which says not included but are very much included and are Duracell too.
I know these are German design but are made in China to a high standard and they are an ideal size to hold in your hand and with the batteries inserted they are just the right weight too.
The beauty of these are the foil heads and blades are easily available from that very famous auction site (eBay) and I have seen the foil heads for about 4 to 5 and the cutter blades for about the same price but you can get both in packs and no more than 8. I think that is really good and don’t let it put you off coming from China because that is where these shavers are made anyway. Obviously if you order spares from China they will take anything up to 3 weeks to get here but worth it.
I had a shave today with my series 3 shaver (triple foil) and then I had one after with this shaver (M90) and it really did get every little but of stubble right down to the skin. Yes it was slightly sore after but nothing a bit of aftershave or balm cannot sort out. I expect it was because it was such a close shave. I cannot use the rotary shavers because they make me so sore but these I can use and I am still so amazed at this shaver it is now my favourite.
Please ignore the one star reviews they really are reviewing the wrong item.
A good shaver, well built with some neat design touches.
This one seems to be very well made and has nice design features. I suppose its marketed as a ‘travel shaver’ but I do not see why it could not be used each day. A lot of thought has gone into it’s compact design. It feels compact, nice and solid. No plastic protective to lose because its built into shaver. It also stops the shaver being turned on with the lid closed. Their is a very small cleaning brush tucked into the base into the battery compartment. The battery compartment itself is very well designed and will not break in a hurry, no flimsy slide here. The shaver itself takes 2 AA batteries and I like this. If you take it away on holiday you can get two batteries anywhere so your never without power. I have loads of rechargeable batteries so just cycle four. Having only used it once I can say it shaved me fine and to a close standard. Amazon 5 cheaper than Argos. Give it a try, its a nice robust little shaver that should last a good while.
Splendid, well-designed razor and absolutely outstanding value at 12 – I have just bought a second one as a spare. OK only it only has a single head / foil but that just means more passes and slower. Why pay 100 ~ 200 unless you really must have the fastest possible shave? Includes trimmer & even a cleaning brush, folds up small & foil is automatically protected. Ideal for travel or lightweight camping / backpacking. Only disadvantage is narrow trimmer, but this just means you have to take a bit more time & trouble. And that you have to recharge the batteries separately, but as others have said, batteries (either disposable or rechargeable) last for ages in this razor.
Note: one person answering a questions above suggested the Philips Travel Shaver with twin rotary heads as a smaller alternative. Well, maybe possibly, but only if you find that a rotary shaver happens to work better with your particular hair growth. It took me years to realise that in my case, rotary wasn’t suitable & that I needed a foil-type (reciprocating) razor. And I have a beard, so most of my shaving is under my chin and around my neck where the skin is looser and the hairs tend to lie flat rather than stick straight out – always the trickiest place to shave. This little razor works as well an anything else; I just have to patient, pull the skin taut and shave from various directions.
to give a good close shave and was comfortable to use and considering ...
I tried it immediately and having not shaved for a couple of days it took less than 10 minutes, probably closer to 5 but I didn’t think to time it, to give a good close shave and was comfortable to use and considering I normally use a wet razor I didn’t find the shave itself at all uncomfortable on the skin. There is also a trimmer, though while it works fine, it will likely take some getting used to as it sticks out of the side of the body so can feel a bit awkward at first. Though with familiarity that will probably disappear.
Easy to clean after just using the brush, though you have the advantage of rinsing the head under water if needed. It can also be used wet as the battery compartment has a rubber seal. However, a note of caution, if not careful, it is possible to close the battery compartment lid such that it may not be sealed a 100%. I noticed because of seeing a thin black line between the lid and the body that hadn’t been there prior to fitting the batteries. However, it only requires a relatively light pressure on the lid before twisting it closed so that it is fully sealed.
I also like the brush fitting into a slot on the bottom and the lid that covers the foil and locks the power switch or which extends the length of the body giving more to hold when fully open.
Overall, for a portable travel shaver I am very impressed and if I continue to be impressed after testing it for the next week I might end up having to buy a set of rechargeable batteries so I can use it as more than just a travel shaver.
I originally owned (and still do) the much earlier model to this one…the Braun 370 and after 8 years of faithful service I decided to treat myself to another one and Boy am I glad I did…I’ll point out that I DO wet shave also but for those times when you get stuck or just need a close shave as electric/battery shavers go then this is fabulous…If this lasts as long as my old model then I’ll be well happy…I’ve already tested it and it actually shaves very close…waaay better then my other 2 mains electric shavers(they are stuck in the draw retired for good) and my older version too ,but that’s to be expected..my older one doesn’t owe me much after 8 years and costing 10 quid….and this one at 16 quid is not a bad buy either…This is well made and with features you may not expect from a battery shaver…built in trimmer..built in brush and foldaway cover…little details maybe.. but go a long way to making it probably another icon from Braun….I mention this because the 370 has found itself in the plastic design iconic museum…and so it should…Neat ..Compact…Gives a great shave and another great feature about this shaver it uses batteries very sparingly….Oh… and one other thing…it’s actually dark blue..not black as it may appear on the photo.!
If your looking for a portable shaver that you might want to shove in a glovebox or simply take with you on short breaks to give you a perfectly good shave then look no further…Cheers
I bought this shaver as a present for someone but tried it before sending it and was so impressed with it that I bought another two. They do give a really close shave and it is one of the most comfortable shavers I have ever had. The shaver runs of two AA type batteries and I find that shaving every day with it – the batteries last a week but rechargeables could be used which would make life easier and cheaper in the long run. It is quiet and light and efficient and I had decided to use it as my main shaver and put my long term electric shaver in the bin BUT I discovered that the foil and the cutters are not available and so when the foil goes then so does the shaver. I really found this hard to believe but have worked out that a replacement foil and cutter for my Braun 5000 costs around the same as the price for the battery shaver complete and it is just the fact that a perfectly good shaver is thrown away because replacements are not available for whatever reason. There is a M60 which is identical to the M90 except that it does not have a trimmer built in but if this is not required then the M60 is cheaper and another excellent bargain and they are identical in every other way.. I would not be without mine and of course they can be used anywhere as they run entirely on batteries. .
5.0 out of 5 stars It's cheap so I thought it would be bad quality - but it's fantastic!
I normally wet shave but there are times when I simply don’t have time and if you need to look respectable you just can’t turn up with stubble (unless it’s “designer” and that’s not me).
I bought from a certain auction website an inexpensive electric razor but it really didn’t do the job and the rechargeable battery expired within a year so it is now in the bin. As I usually do, I researched the market thoroughly before buying. In the end I felt I couldn’t lose this was less than 20 and I opted for it over the M60 because of the trimmer function for which I am really glad. The ability just to trim the sideburns makes you look so much better groomed, even if you are overdue a trip to the barber.
So, downside. None! Upside, takes batteries so you can always stop at your nearest newsagent or convenience store and get some more. It is BRAUN so the quality is fantastic. It’s waterproof so, if you want to, you can shave in the shower (although I’m not sure this is a definite advantage) and it will not be ruined in the bathroom when you spill water onto it. The design is excellent so that the foil guard also cuts off the power swich and it cannot just turn itself on in your washbag (which my toothbrush does). There is a cute cleaning brush recessed into the base although you can just wash it under the tap. New foils are easy to come by and cheap. It takes around two minutes to have a clean-up shave where my Chinese one took nearly 10 minutes. It does not tug the hair it just cuts it without any discomfort.
BRAUN sell razors for over 200. I get as close a shave with the M90 as I do with a wet razor against the grain of my beard. My skin must be pretty sensitive as I have only just found a wet razor I can do this with, previously I had to shave with the grain to avoid shaving rash. My wife loves the result and it’s so convenient that if we are going out in the evening you can get rid of the 5 o’clock shadow in no time. I bought this thinking that if I liked it I would ask for an expensive model as a birthday present – forget it, if there is any advantage to a 200 razor (and I suppose there must be some) I amfar too content with what I have to even contemplate changing.
