Never bought for CCTV, bought for better hand tracking and accuracy on oculus beat saber
I would buy again, might buy another 1
    I would recommend

Stated lifetime is 100,000 hours for the LEDs, mine has started failing after only 25,000 hours.
I suspect that it’s designed so that the failures will accelerate and total failure will come soon.

Bought to supplement the IP cam lighting in my workshop. Works fine

Infra-red Illuminator. Smaller than I imagined when I received this. On testing I found lit up the whole garden brilliantly 10mx10m. The only downside is it glows red. I knew it would from the reviews, as to get the invisible led version was more costly and the 940nm leds (black ones) aren’t as bright. As people have asked, polarity isn’t mentioned but the centre pin is +. The dome looks waterproof (not tested in the rain yet!) and is sturdily built from alloy and glass. The power lead is very short and doesn’t come with a transformer, I tested with an unregulated multi voltage transformer and worked fine. Though I will be using a 12v switched mode power supply to run. Auto On and Off dark sensing is a great feature and saves fitting a photocell. Nearly a year on and only 7 out of 48 infra red leds are still working, looks like I’ve got some soldering to do.

I have now deployed three of these to supplement CCTV IR-enabled cameras. They can be deployed at very short notice to throw IR light ‘pools’ away from the camera, greatly extending the range of the camera by ‘lighting’ up distant areas. They do give off a faint red glow but this is not a problem for me as they are located nowhere near the camera and any interference with the IR by criminals would be picked up by that camera. Their low power draw means they could be coupled with a solar panel / controller / 12v battery and not connected to the mains.

Installed to supplement the IR from our security cameras. Works well and uses the same kind of 12v transformer. Can’t comment on weatherproofness as we have them in a sheltered position.

Golden Review Award: 23 From Our UsersThe 48 Infra Red LEDs in this BW lamp produce a reasonable amount of ‘dark light’ to help the night-time vision of our security cameras, allowing a decent noise-free picture to minimise spurious motion sensing. It tends to have a ‘hot spot’ in the centre, and the beam is a bit too narrow for a flood to illuminate a patio or parking area, but it is ideal for reaching along a passageway or alley.

I would have preferred half the power per lamp and instead spread the illumination sources further apart, and might yet disable some of the eight chains of six LEDs in each lamp.

It is worth testing the lamp in the dark to check all the LEDs are in fact working. This is easily done because at night they have a faint red glow visible to the human eye, or simply point a smart phone at the lamp while blocking the sensor in the centre.

The three lamps I bought all took about the same amount of power from a 12V DC supply (not included), between 320mA and 330mA, dropping down to zero current at 8V DC.

The dusk/dawn on/off switching system seems to be effective and matches well with the camera sensitivity changes. Looking at the circuit of the switch, it is probably best not to allow the lamp to run on a voltage much lower than about 10V, simply to ensure the rather small pass transistor is either fully On or fully Off and cannot be cooked by passing some current while also dropping some volts.

The circuit board is clearly generic and can be easily found in many similar lamps from other vendors on Amazon, and even as a spare plug-in part on its own. So if it fails it can easily be replaced without needing to buy a complete new lamp.

The alloy casing is durable enough that it should survive normal weather, but I would not leave it in an exposed position or expect it to survive immersion. The weakest aspect is how the glass is simply glued in, and I expect this to be the first place to leak, however if it is pointing mostly downwards then this will not be a significant problem.

The paint was flaking off two of the brackets, but again this is not a significant problem as I have repainted them and the lamps black.

I’ve had these before, they can extend your cctv cameras view in the dark – nice trick is to put it out of sight, high up then it looks like daylight

Bought one in Aug 2016.. Jan 2017- Just bought 2 more.. pb

Satisfactory for the purpose I wanted this IR Light for, to illuminate a small area of my garden, I wanted to see which animal was fouling this area, it was next doors Cat.

Did not like the fact that there was no power supply so had to buy separately. But other than that works fine outside.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersUnit works fine. You’ll need a 12V DC supply, +ve on the centre pin, capable of delivering 1amp at 12v (the unit does not work on a 600mA supply)
    .
There is plenty of IR illumination for close range use (less than 3m), haven’t tried it in the open.

There is a photocell sensor in the middle which turns it off when it detects visible light (eg daylight or interior lights on)

However the LEDs glow visible red when on, so this unit is no good if you don’t want someone to see that it is on.

I have ordered this lamp before I have read the negative reviews here, but I did not regret it now. It was delivered nicely packaged, and worked as it should straight out of the box. The build quality is good, the shell is made of sturdy aluminium. It does the job perfectly well. The power cable is about half a meter long, so you probably will need some extension lead.

No! It is not an industrial grade 30+ model. Do not expect to illuminate your whole garden as if it was daylight. This is a 6 model! Keep this in mind! This one is good to aid night vision cameras in dark hallways and focusing on front/back doors, since -according to my experience with it- the effective range is about 3-4 meters. For this price, it really is a bargain. If you want to cover your whole backyard, you should go for a more expensive one, that has about 150+ LED built in.

The first lamp I have ordered got lost on the way, but after contacting HappyMap, they immediately sent a replacement which has arrived in about a week. A truly polite, kind and prompt service from the seller. I can not complain at all.

Satisfied with the product, satisfied with the service, I am one happy customer.

    Thank you HappyMap!

Very well made with a good strong cast aluminium case with a good strong sensible mounting bracket. Runs on 12v with positive is the centre pin on the connector. I feel like I got a bargin.
