Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI Remember having this Casio calculator watch when i was young boy but could never remember what happened to it. I am happy to be wearing it again, I know most people don’t like the fact that it don’t have a backlight but if you look past that then it just means the battery will last a few more years. I do wear this watch in the shower so it is completely waterproof. Feels really comfortable on the wrist hardly know it’s their. Would defiantly recommend if your looking for a Iconic Watch.

It’s a bog standard Casio watch, they call it retro now, really cause the design hadn’t changed since I owned one also 30 years ago. Simple, basic, yet stylist. Got it for a friend’s birthday, he’s happy as pigs in muck. The style of watch is older than him. Pleased with purchase. Few time zones, basic calculator, and standard time. Functional yet cool!

It was exactly what my son wanted. However, it would have been nicer if it came in a presentation box. I had to buy another box to put it in.

    A well made calculator watch

The calculator is fiddly and you would only use it in an emergency

Clear display and slim design too. It looks good on your wrist. Extremely accurate time keeping

Good as long as expectations are reasonable, for example the buttons are hard to press and often don’t respond, the watch is very light with a thin strap and there is no backlight. Only good for nostalgia really.

I like the style, and the calculator works.

I dislike the button type, I thought they would be clicky but they’re soft press, and with fat fingers it’s tough to gauge whether a button has been pressed.

Bought for best mate as he likes classic casio but it put a smile on my face but wouldn’t come close to my wrist as they are large. Watch has a great retro look & feel, very easy to set both time date plus alarm

I used to own one back in the mid 80s great watch very comfortable and light on the wrist I had it for many years but sadly lost it..it has easy functions when u learn how to use it which doesn’t take long I only bought it because of its past connections from back to the future movies in which Marty mcfly wore ! Great to see it back on sale:::super retro nostalgia

4.0 out of 5 stars Great watch easy to wear very light and comfortable...😊

Is the watch that we all had when teenagers! Is the model that has incorporated the calculator. Easy to set up with the bottoms on the side. Instructions are not very clear, but you can find plenty of videos on YouTube . Is a bit expensive for an old plastic watch, but with a Casio you will have a watch for the rest of your life. The light in the screen is just green color.

Brings me back to my childhood memories. Good as it used to be and fits nicely for all wrists.
I am currently doing a lot of math on weekdays due to work and this really makes my work easy.

Sent to Morocco and only took 20 days.

I am confident that this is legit real casio ca53w. comes with a bag not a case i guess it is because of shipping. most of you may not know it has a diagnose mode to tell whether it is fake or not. You can find the video on YouTube so I’ll just skip it.

Overall, really pleasure to have this watch on my wrist again.

5.0 out of 5 stars good legit and beautiful

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAbsolutely adore this little watch. It’s an icon and looks great. If you’ve never owned one of these before they are smaller in real life than what they look in the pictures (I have very small wrists at about 6 1/4 inches). Very light and well made for the price. Dosent have a back light like some other Casio models but that dosent bother me. Whether you’re a watch collector, enthusiast or maybe you’re just getting in to the world of watches, do yourself a favour and get one of these.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for any watch lover!

I had a similar watch back in the 80’s, I don’t think it was exactly the same as If I recall my original (since departed to calculator heaven thanks to a catastrophic failed battery replacement) this one was a re-buy as close as to what I had during that era and it fits a treat.

This is a very slim watch and the buttons seem better on the new on. The display is very clear and the band is also very comfortable. For the price you get a lot of watch for the money and those of a certain age are likely to comment on a similar item that appeared in the Back to the Future film of the mid 1980’s. This one does not have a back light but if I recall my old one did and it had no use other than draining the battery, yes my old one was that bad so not missed on the new one. It would have been nice to have a count down timer.

This watch is a great buy for those of us of a certain age (you know who you are) who could not afford one of these when you were a kid. It was cool then and it still is now.

Some reviewers say there is a problem with the date. There isn’t, you just need to enter it in the format of YY MM DD

    Fantastic timeless piece.

    Love the retro look.

Small issue: To see the date you have to press the top right button. Which is fine. However as soon as you release it, it disappears. Would be really good if it stayed on for 3 seconds so we could see it before it disappeared. Can be annoying sometimes.

Calculator is very usable dispite the small form factor. You won’t know you are wearing it!

Price could be cheaper slightly considering the simple nature of technology in this era.

    Very lovely watch.

Great watch with a huge nostalgia hit, how can you go wrong?
Marty Mcfly and Walter White approved straight out of the box.
With a long history behind it this watch could easily be a victim of its own success by being left behind by the march of technology but there is still a place for this little charmer.
The calculator comes in handy even if the buttons do need a bit of care to use.
You get two time zones a stopwatch with split time, alarm and day date calendar.
So not ground breaking but a good solid performer, much has been said about the lack of back-light but you get used to not having it.
You won’t be diving with this watch but washing your hands or getting caught in the rain isn’t a catastrophe.
So if your looking for a practical watch with good useful features and the added bonus of the movie and TV fame but not a huge budget then this could be the watch for you.
    It was for me.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI’ll happily say I bought this watch after going through a little 90’s/retro phase, but even after that the watch is still going strong and I wear it every day! It does exactly what it needs to with the cool 90’s touch of the calculator. I’ve used the calculator a few times, mostly to annoy my coworkers instead of using my phone’s calculator, but even then it was perfect and gave a real classic feel! Shipping was fast, no damage and perfect condition! I haven’t properly tested the waterproofing, but it can survive a washing up bowl and engine oil so full marks from me.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersLove this watch. It’s very geeky hipster cool. I’ll probably never use the calculator, but it has plenty of other features. The calculator is a little bit fiddly, but still easy to use. Also, if you can do the old schoolboy trick of turning it upside down and writing words (like 77345710, which is shell oil).

The strap is very comfortable, and fits well on my skinny wrists. This could probably be worn by preteen children, and thin wristed adults, and it would accommodate much larger wrists.

I haven’t tested the water resistance much, but it has fared well after rainfall and a few splashes from hand washing. I probably wouldn’t shower, wash the dishes, or swim with it, however.

The backlight could be better, but it’s not something I use too much.

TL;DR A very cool, geeky, usable, and practical watch. The OG smart watch.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersGreat looking watch, won’t take long before you get comments from your friends / colleagues.

It has an alarm, stopwatch, world time, hourly chime and calculator obviously. You wouldn’t use the calc much as the buttons are so small and everyone has one on their phone which would be easier to use. It’s more about the look and nostalgia for me.

Why only 4 stars? It’s just too small for me. I’m 6’3″ and have big hands so might be OK for some but it was on the last strap hole and just looked too small. My daily watch is a Casio SGW-300H (altimiter and thermometer) and it’s bigger than normal Casios but not as big as a GShock.

Casio also does a bigger Casio Calc watch with bigger buttons but I think I’ll get a GShock next and go large!

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersI had one of these as a kid in the early 90’s, best remember hearing the distinctive “beep-beeps” as everyone’s Casio at school hit the hour mark -had huge nostalgia when I’d seen them re-released, just never got round to ordering it. – I happened to see it for the bargain price of 16 so had to buy it (my original one was 11.99 from Argos back in 1992 or something). What amazed me is how small this thing is, even by the standards of most mechanical watches today, but then I was about 9 when I had the first one.

I never used the calculator, stopwatch, dual time at the time, doubt I still will, along with the alarm now I have a phone, but this gets some great comments from those who remember them as kids – a solid bit of nerd porn.

Also, just for the record, this is not Marty McFly’s watch, he had an earlier one.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFirst of all, this is brilliant retro watch and I’m surprised Casio are still making them, I remember having my first one as a child in the 80’s.

Now as an adult, I can say that the calculator is definitely a bit of a novelty gimmick. The buttons are too small for a using the calculator function easily.

I’m shocked that Casio still haven’t managed to figure our how to include a light function on the watch, but I guess this would deviate from the original model.

That said, its great for daytime use, but not very good in low light/ dark environments as you wont be able to see the time. The plastic surface surrounding the buttons on the face of the watch scratches easily, but this doesn’t detract from the overall look of it.

It’s lightweight and great for everyday use, and a great buy at such a low price.

definitely a good buy for those nostalgic of their youth.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersCracking bit of 80’s nostalgia for 14 🙂 I always wanted on of these when I was a kid. Back then they seemed huuuuuuge. Given the current trend of making watches as large as possible, it’s not a bad size at all. Its the perfect antithesis to todays huge statement watches or smart watches that monitor all your bodily functions. Wear this and be proud of your inner nerdiness.

As others have noted it has there is no backlight, but neither does a Rolex ;-). I read some negative feedback regarding the day of the week not corresponding to the date. This is not the case! The trick is (and this is shown in the instructions) is to enter the date in the Japanese/Chinese format e.g. YY.MM.DD

When setting time/date etc. the numbers are entered using the numerals on the keypad, which is better than stepping through one digit at a time.

Buy one now and feel like Marty McFLy or Walter White 🙂 I even spotted one on the wrist of Moritz Stamm in Deutschland 83

The watch is very nice, but it looks way bigger in photos (on someone’s wrist) than it actually is.

Watch design is very slim, therefore it looks small in person. I was hesitating to buy the Casio DBC-32 because it looked too big(bulky) for my taste.

I knew all the features and the flaws of this watch before buying it, so I’m not complaining. Just pointing out some details.

Hopefully I’m giving a good piece of advice for a future buyer who has not decided which calculator watch to buy.
For those who worry about the size just go with this watch (CA-53W). For others – I’d suggest to go for the DBC-32 version.

The DBC-32 is backlit which is a simple yet a very useful feature and has bigger display. Don’t worry about the size so much, because this watch (CA-53W) is much smaller than it looks in pictures, so I assume the DBC-32 version must be not that big too.

    Pros of the CA-53W:

Very slim – the watch itself and the strap.
Buttons are way more comfortable to use than I imagined they would be.
    Light.

    Cons –
Strap is slim therefore feels weak. Depending on the lifestyle it feels as if it could last years or just a week.

    Overall experience:
I enjoy this retro watch. Using the calculator function quite often just because I can!. Size is perfect. If it had the backlit I wouldn’t even have second thoughts about DBC-32.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is so 80’s! I collect retro things, so I just had to have this in my collection (even if it’s not an original). I use it at the shops as I find it difficult to manage how much money everything comes to and it’s very reliable as a calculator. It’s not scientific but it does the job for normal sums. I do find it difficult to enter the numbers in it from time to time as the rubber buttons are very small, but I seem to be getting used to it. I just love wearing this watch and wear this everyday. The practical use of something simple as a calculator watch really makes a difference in my life. So, I thank Casio for making this.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis watch is an awesome and retro watch. Here I have described the product in full.
First of all the box is very strange, there appears to be only a few markings on it, one being a 1:1 Scale symbol, which means whatever is in the box is the same size as it is in reality, like most physical objects that tend to be a 1:1 Scale. It comes with a display stand with a handle (for retail purposes I suppose) and the instructions are tucked into a compartment in the stand. The button text is to the left of the button which may be confusing but you can get used to it. There is an exact 1:1 match between where your wrist is and where the watch ends up which is quite nice. This is also the model which Walter White from Breaking Bad wears and so this watch is good for both on the fly calculation while teaching chemistry or cooking meth-amphetamine.

    Display:4
    Accuracy: 7*0.1428572 = 1.0000004, 1/0 = E, 1/9×9 = 0.9999999 Score:5
    Functionality: 2
Ergonomics: 10 (it’s attached to your wrist)
    Cred: (INFINITE!)
    Durability: 10

Total: which is an average of
Because I am not allowed infinity as a score I will change the Cred to just go up to 11 which makes a new total of 40, and that’s an average of 6.6 recurring.

Another well made casio product. Came quickly, well packaged and dies the job perfectly. Very light to wear and very 80’s retro! I have collected lots of watches over the years and this was a gimmicky fun buy – I bought one for my young son too and he loves it! Easy to use calcator, a really loud alarm but no backlight. At least without a light the battery will last longer! A note – this watch is water resistant but that doesn’t mean you should swim or shower with it – it literally means it will withstand splashes. This is clear from the instructions, I notice other reviewers seem to equate water resistant with waterproof and thy just aren’t the same thing. I’m sure like all Casio watches I’ve owned it will prove very tough and resilient to everyday life, actually quite a smart little watch that’s fashionably nerdy!
