Manual Operation

You can override your preset times if you wish to open/close the coop earlier.

Simply press the buttons on the front of the unit to open or close the coop door manually.

These extra large buttons have been designed for ease of use, even with thick gloves on when fighting the winter elements.

Auto-Stop Safety Feature

The ChickenGuard unit lowers the door slowly.

Should the door detect an obstruction it will stop and return to the open position.

Door closure will be attempted every 3 minutes up to 5 times allowing any dithering hens standing in the doorway to move safely into the coop.

Weatherproof

All ChickenGuard units are water-tight & weatherproof.

ChickenGuard has many happy customers around the world. Our units are operating successfully in the heat of Australia and the sub-zero temperatures of Alaska.

S5 & P5 Units will function accurately in temperatures down to -10. For lower temperatures to -20 our extra powerful X5 unit is recommended.

Powerful & Reliable Motors

ChickenGuard units S5 & P5 will lift coop doors weighing up to 1kg (2lbs).

ChickenGuard X5 is our strongest unit, which will happily lift double the weight up to 2kg (4lbs).

The durable cord supplied for attaching to your coop door has an enviable breaking strain of up to 25kg (50lbs)

Simple to install great instructions. Good value for money allows the chicken freedom to come out at dawn. Especially when that’s 4 am !

It closed last night the first night and based on chickens behaviour lately set it for 8.30pm. guess they changed their hours as two of them were shut out. Very indignant they were. All ok now. Very good product.

I’ve previously had Omlet doors, which are very robust but the mechanism is in the door – good point – but this makes it more of a job to install. I already had a door on the new coop so ran the cord through a hole to the hatch – job done!

British company,British designed, British manufactured in Cambridge.
This extreme version is quality,it will give us value for money, for a long time.
There is a 3 guarantee,a company is only as good as its promise to keep there warranty promise and I’m sure chickenguard will keep there word.
I’ve rang them for a little information about the setup when I first set it up and they are a delight to speak too and have knowledge of there product.
Top class company by the looks of it.

Nearly 3 months in now, light sensor is a useful function for complete freedom. I also used mains power, so no worries of changing batteries. Had some teething troubles but customer service was simply amazing, I wish all companies follow their model. Thoroughly recommended.

Very pleased after a few days, it seems a very well thought out product, and of far better quality than the one I had before. The cord is of good quality.

Simple to install and configure, the instructions are remarkably good. I like that you can set the Lux at which it will open and close (separately), and it will read and display the current brightness level. You can also set a delay time so the door closes a period of time after the light level is reached.

Will update if anything goes wrong.

The unit works fine once you find your way around the menu. However I did not realise and it is not clear that the photo cell although fitted does not operate unless you pay an upgrade!
So the STANDARD only works on timer and they should make that much clearer.

This is my second one of these products and I find them easy to use and pretty reliable.
I have only had problems before with the cable getting jammed in some way, and this new design looks like it makes that far less likely.
    Setup is straightforward.
My only real niggle is that I have to set the light level a bit low for closing as otherwise a miserable day can cause the coop to close mid-afternoon !

I have had a few door openers but this one is by far the most reliable, and easy to use. I don’t worry about it not closing as I have never had any problems. Have had it for over a year now.

Chickenguard automatic chicken cook pop hole closer/opener is an invaluable item in looking after my garden chickens. This is the 2nd opener I have purchased – the last one having failed after 12 years of excellent service making sure my chickens were kept safe at night and saving me the job of going out every evening – whatever the weather – to close the coop door. Weekends away are not a problem as I know the hens will be safely locked away come nightfall.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our Usersi replaced a home made door opener – works very well, USB power does not have any battery backup, so if the paower goes it looses its time. Running on 4 x AA Batteries, I do find the menu a little confusing, it coudl really do with a 4th button of cancel or go back! The ultimate would be to be able programme this device via a phone APP but guess that pushes the price up higher. IT has worked faultless since our purchase. we have the door opening at 8am and then closing at dusk.

So far so good. Used this to replace the old German chicken door opener that some may be familiar with. Instructions were very clear and installation took 30 minutes from opening package to fully fitted and programmed door. Works fine and nice to have options of light sensor, timer and mix of the two. It’s expensive but appears worth the money. I’d never go back to not having an automatic door and this one looks like it’ll do the job for a good while.

The instructions are very clear to follow and made the setting up very easy. There are no complicated switches inside to tell it when it has got to the top or bottom of its run, just a simple calibration setup. The box is compact and looks very weather proof, with simple buttons to setup and over ride the opening/ shutting of the door. If I had looked into it a little better I think I would have gone for the one with a light censor on it to close a bit earlier in the winter rather than have to set the times differently at different times of the year. Not a big problem in the scheme of things though.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersExcellent timer. I have another one with a different brand. That one have had multiple problems. The customer services were excellent when they replaced it but I saved many hours by buying this one for the second coop.
You can adjust the length and record it so that it does the same every time. The battery blinking indicator is very good. The string has not broken in constant use for more than a year.
In other words, very reliable and worth every penny. I never have to worry about the chickens being locked in without access to food and water.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersHaving to get up at dawn to let my chickens out was causing severe sleep deprivation especially with the earlier sunrises of summer. Letting the chickens get themselves out when the door opens for them at dawn has been so life-enhancing.
I haven’t used automatic door closing for the evenings as a couple of the chickens don’t like going into the coop at night until very late and I need to be sure that they are all safe inside before the doors close.
The fitting was easy enough although the instructions on how to use and set up could have been a little more detailed. Fitting the weather seal was fiddly. Perhaps this could be pre-fitted?

Simple to install, set up and use. Strong build. Just great. We bought the top model due to the heavy weight of our chicken house door. Currently just use the timer option which works really well for us.

Delivered quickly. Found it very simple to set up & install. I recommend watching the set up video on ChickenGuard website. Only first night bus has worked perfectly. Will update in a month.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI ordered this product, with the door, on a Friday and both had arrived by first thing Sunday morning. We dont have a standard hen house as we use a shed and so we had to cut a hole in the door first. All in, I reckon it took my husband an hour to do the whole job. I am absolutely delighted with the outcome. The automatic door works a treat letting the hens out at 7.30am and shutting (and locking) them in at 5.45pm. This means we can now go away on holiday with peace of mind that the local fox will not get them. I thoroughly recommend this product.

Worth paying the extra. Went for a cheaper version that only lasted 3 months so decided to opt for quality. So pleased we did, it’s very durable and hasn’t let us down, even in the snow. Well worth the extra money.

    So far so good.
2 weeks on, easy to install & working well with the light sensor. It is great not to have to let them out or shut them in at each end of the day.

Arrived very quickly so i was able to protect my hens ASAP after the failure of my previous automatic door opener (different manufacturer). Chickenguard works well and appears to be of robust construction.

We have had a Chicken guard since we purchased our chickens over 3 years ago. We use the sensor setting. The chucks go into the house at dusk and the door closes. At dawn the door opens and they emerge. So easy to set up amd easy to use. Just renewed.

This product does exactly what it says on the tin, no more dark early morning/evening treks down to open/close the chickens, well worth every penny. We can now have a few days away without having to worry.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersEasy to fit and worked as intended right out of the box, opening and closing at the perfect times just using the light sensor. I had no room to fit the Chicken Guard right above the door but functions great using a few small pulleys to allow positioning to the side of the door.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does the job

The automatic coop door opener was really easy to install and the instructions were clear. I was able to do it myself in about 10 minutes. I am really happy with it as it did exactly what it was supposed to do bang on time last night and this morning. Fabulous piece of kit!
