I’ve easily been able to convert Hi8 and DV tapes from their respective cameras to MP4 files. The quality of the MP4’s I would say is slightly better than on the original tapes, almost DVD quality. I find this acceptable because the old tapes are not HD anyway. It would have been good if the Converter had a battery back up because you have to reconfigure it every time you use it.

The clear click copied my hi8 tapes with ease, they were then transferred to the laptop just as easy. You can transfer different sections onto different USB sticks. Value for money.

Speaker is awful, the power cable is shockingly horrific it doesn’t even go all the way in so any slight movement will make it fall out. Everything else is fine and easy to use without issue. Definitely too expensive, it’s at most worth 80-100 considering it’s a niche item but the quality of the product doesn’t justify the price.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve had several devices over the years for transferring video and none of them particularly great to use, hence why I have mini DV cassettes which haven’t been viewed in nearly twenty years.
I wish I had this back in 2004, it’s easy and convenient. yes I worried that it was pricy but honestly totalling up the cheaper variants that have only had limited success this unit is easily worth the money and is cheaper than the failed purchases.

For my needs I simply have to play the cassette through the camcorder with an S-Video and a RCA cable connecting it to the ClearClick recorder (making sure not to use the yellow video connection as I do find this generates some visual interference in the light parts of the video).
Then with the SD card inserted press record and then start the camcorder playing and stop when I’m done. The video files are immediately watchable on any computer.
I love the simplicity of it and not having to rely on any software seals the deal.

Converted my old vhs tapes with ease. The only issue I had was with my old vcr, there was only a scart output but bought an adapter from amazon for just a few pound, worked well. I would highly recommend

I am very impressed with this so far. It looks to be well made and what really pleases me is the well laid out instruction booklet which for once is a reasonable type size and in clear straightforward English which gives it full marks from me even before I try it out.
As it turns out I didn’t have to read the instructions as good as they are as there is also a link to an excellent tutorial on the web that explained it all. Having copied over my first camcorder tape I am pleased with the result.

Does exactly what it says with simplicity.. the cost was a concern, but if you have more than 2 tapes to do it is cost effective compared to paying someone else to do it for you.

Found this gadget did just as it said it would! Easy to set up and use, easy to transfer home movies to the pc. Nice clear, simple instructions. Bought a new flash drive as recommended . Did have to buy an adapter to put in the scart socket in the back of the video player for the three coloured leads to go into. Once I had this it was easy.

It grabs the best possible quality from an interlaced SD source! The capture is at 50 fps so both fields of the PAL signal are properly managed and recorded. Best buy, assle free!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis little gadget is SO easy to use and the transfer quality looks really good, it will make transferring video/DVD footage to a USB memory stick or memory card so much easier & the customer service support is really great! I’m really pleased I purchased this item, I just treated myself to it at Christmas, I was a wee bit hesitant as it’s a lot of money to spend on it but I’m truly grateful I did purchase it…just brilliant, nothing more to say!!

I don’t write reviews very often but I just had to write this one !! I’m a complete dinosaur with tech but this was amazingly easy and I had to tell anyone else looking at this item .
100% happy with this and can’t recommend it enough

This unit is great for the fact you do not require a computer, you simply record to an SD card. It also has some useful features, such as auto stop recording (only if what you are transfering actually finishes and doesn’t continue to something else you had recorded over) which means you don’t have to keep checking on the transfer. My only gripes are – the selection of picture format – you can select 4:3 but not 16:9, the I my option for 16:9 is an auto detect, which it has got wrong a few times. Also, the sd card slot is very stiff. Other than that, great little unit – I have just finished successfully transfering 64 VHS cassettes.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersUsed it to convert old home recordings from the 80’s and it worked perfectly, but it splits longer videos into 4Gb chunks. Obviously you need a compatible player for your tapes. I like that the unit has a built in screen and sound, auto picture size & very quick and intuitive to set up and playback of what has been transferred, but no file thumbnails or list, you tap left – right to find a recording and play. Files readable on PC with free software. Def does a better job than cheaper PC based converters which often bring in PC processing artefacts like weird clicks and image freezes/frame drops. None of those problems. Good intermediate between beginner quality and studio pro.

Does exactly what is expected from it. The UI is a little awkward in that screenshots and video recording are determined by how long the record button is held, so starting the encoder before the composite video device is absolutely necessary.

It’s quite picky about power supplies, you need a Micro USB power supply that outputs 5 volts 2 amps, which is slightly nonstandard, and you can’t run it from a computer or it goes crazy. From my testing, it supports PAL50, NTSC, but not PAL60, which makes recording European market game consoles from after 1999 difficult.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI bought the clearclick converter as my son is a pro photographer and is often contacted to see if he can digitise old tapes anything from vhsc to hi8 etc. but it’s me who does the work so I treated myself to this wonderful piece of kit, after using other methods (plug in usb type) it gives a much better workflow and has no glitches as it records to an SD card or a Usb pen, the former I would recommend and you still need some form of video editing software to complete a good job, but as a videographer myself I already use one. The unit is well made, comes with all the connecting wiring and power adapter, you can even view your progress on a tv via the HDMI output on the device whilst recording. Ok it’s definitely not HD and is not meant for that application but for digitisation of old formats from bygone devices it makes life easygoing my recommendation for recording old VHS is to try an use a VHS player with An S video outlet as this produces slightly better quality than an AV outlet.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI tried a couple of devices for digitising old VCRs and camcorder tapes without great success. The ClearClick was a very welcome discovery. The quality from the camcorder tapes (late 1990s) is very good, and it’s really easy to use. Recording onto a USB stick is perfect.

This is amazing been of kit. If you’ve got videos to transfer do it before its too late as ours are starting to fade and some of the sound is going so the quicker the better and this item was just so easy to do and now we can watch all our old videos without any other item just the TV …..perfect
Would recommend and would defo buy again.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersDoes as advertised, full VHS quality as good as it gets. I was actually shocked of how good the quality was on the 30 year old VHS tapes. Easy to use and 10 minutes of recording is approx 250mb in file size.

Just make sure to use a good usb flash drive or you could get video & audio out of sync. I bought what they recommended, Sandisk usb 3.0 (128GB) and it works great!

This device saves all the usual bother of finding driver software and so on for the usual USB devices. This takes your video and puts it straight onto an SD card, without needing to use the computer. Fantastic!! Some have reported that the S-Video is dull compared to the composite (yellow) connector. I didn’t find this to be the case at all. Highly recommended piece of kit.

Good little device easy to connect to your devices and importing your video footage to computer and then to edit as I did with some old video and camcorder tapes

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis is a great product to convert those old family VHS videos into a digital version. Took a couple of attempts to find the right cable that worked with our video player, but soon figured it out and now I have all the home videos backed up. It’s been lovely being able to send copies to family members who’ve never seen them before. Definitely worth the investme

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI bought a Clearclick video to digital converter 2.0 a couple of weeks ago. I had looked at many different converters and this seemed an easy one to use. It arrived but sadly it did not work. I contacted clearclick via their website. They replied immediately and decided I had a faulty converter and should return it to Amazon. I did this and once I had received my refund I thought I would give it another chance and ordered it again. The new one works!! I am really pleased with it. It is very easy to use. My tapes date back to 1990 and are definitely beginning to deteriorate so I am thrilled to be able to duplicate them. I have about 77 tapes and am pleased that I won’t have to send them away to be converted which would have cost a lot. Look at some of the Clearclick info videos. It really is as easy as they say. I have used a Sandisk extreme pro card.
