Not too sure how I review a fire alarm, but I’ll try.
I bought this to replace our old alarm, and I needed one that fit in the same place but looked and felt a bit better than the older one – therefore I bought this. It’s smaller than the previous alarm, which I much prefer as it’s much nicer in terms of a need-to-have house accessory. It’s white (why are fire alarms always white?) which is fine, as it’s blends into the ceiling (even though I hate white walls and ceilings, but anyway), and once the batteries were popped in, it was up and running.
We have never had a fire. I hope we never do. But if we do, this alarm I’m sure will alert us of said fire with his loud oh so loud beeping noise. It has a testing feature on it, so I’m fully aware it’s working whenever I feel like deafening my ears, and that’s it. It works, it looks good and it was super easy to fit (should have mentioned that earlier – fitting it was easy, just follow the instructions and you’ll have the alarm fitting in a few minutes).
Think that covers it all.

cheap screws included. Face plate requires a little patience to fit but it is a smaler compcat model.
Sound is ‘good enough’
WOULD reccomend as a secondary smoke (only) alarm.

Trusted brand so have confidence it WILL work when it needs to.
It’s small and tidy, which I like. The plate comes off the back easily for fixing to a surface. The battery was new, wrapped in cellophane and worked at first test: it’s LOUD, no one could sleep through this, not even a one-brain-cell orange tabby cat. Overall, I’m quite satisfied with this smoke detector. The only thing I can see that I would improve is the length of the wires that connect the battery; because they’re very thin wires and not very robust, and had to be bent at such an acute angle I was concerned that they would break when pressing the connected battery into the back. If the wires were slightly longer and more robust I would give this a 5 star review. I would give it 6 stars if it came with a one-brain-cell orange tabby cat.
EDIT It was fine for 3 days and then it started sounding without reason. Had to take the battery out. 🙁
Good value for money
Amazon’s delivery was quick and on time as we needed it to replace the previous alarm urgently. Instruction is clear and easy to install. But the actual alarm is smaller than expected. All in all, happy with the purchase.
First unit arrived faulty, replacement unit worked ok and the return procedure was simple and fast. It would have helped if all alarm units used the same fixing template as I had to drill another two holes in the ceiling. Also it would be very useful if all units had clear external instructions for removal. The last unit I had lasted a couple of years and I had forgotten how to remove it, ending up nearly wrenching it off the ceiling!
Very easy to install the supplied 9v battery. Very easy to install the unit.
4 stars at present, time will tell how the long term performance goes.
I’ve marked battery life as 1 star due to the enclosed batteries 2 for 2 units, each only lasting 3 weeks, maybe these units are made long in advance of being sent out but that wasn’t good. I have since bought two fresh batteries, so far things are ok. In other units I generally get close to 12 months service, so fingers crossed.
From what I can tell, it does the job
I think I’ve had less annoying flash alarms from cooking fumes with this one tha previously…or maybe I just got better at not burning stuff?!
Having said that, it has gone off once, so I know it’s working.
It looks okay, and I like that the button is nice and big making it easier to press when reaching up.
However, a Command strip to stick it to the ceiling wouldn’t have gone amiss!
I can’t comment on battery life as by the time you would expect it to run out, the model probably won’t be in production anymore.
Simple alarms and (I hope) effective. Easy to fit.
Bought late Sept 2020 and in early April 2022 (18ish months) I am now changing the 9v batteries that were supplied. Advertised as just 12 months battery life so it’s done better than expected.
New batteries purchased, also from Amazon. I measured the voltage of the new ones before I put them in and they were 9.67v.
The voltage of the ones I removed were 8.55v. My understanding of a “low” 9v battery is about 7.2v, so it’s a shame they are deemed no good already. But a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things.
I will update this when I have to replace the batteries next. Hopefully the ones I’ve just fitted last longer than the included 9v batteries.
Good price, smaller than old type, already a year out of date
It’s hard to complain at this price for two smoke detectors. Obviously time will tell if they are effective.
If you’re looking to replace old ones, these are quite small – smaller than our old ones by quite a bit. The screw holes are about 4.5cm apart. So we couldn’t reuse both old holes. But it comes with the screws and rawl plugs required, so fitting is not too difficult.
The whole unit screws on and off a plate that you attach to your ceiling or wall. This means that you can remove the entire unit for cleaning should you wish to. It also means the 9v (square) battery is fitted in the device in your hands, you don’t have to reach up to try and swap the battery. I’d say that’s slightly more convenient.
They say don’t have it near a bathroom as steam will set it off, then in the descriptions show it being used on a landing outside of a bathroom. That contradiction will be tested in time in terms of false positives. On the plus side, it’s possible to silence this alarm by holding the button temporarily.
Smoke detectors should be replaced after ten years – and the expiration date in ours is in nine years time. It’s not a huge issue, but there is a slight sting that you’ve lost 10% of your product’s life just because it’s been sitting somewhere.
Well sort of, I would advise you to throw away the screws and use some decent ones. In common with many items shipped with fixing screws these are shipped with poor quality screws. Otherwise its all good. The instructions with this 2 pack of smoke alarms contain useful tips on where to fit your alarms. I was replacing two failed alarms so I did not need those. After screwing the bases for the new alarms to the ceiling all I had to do was unwrap and fit the batteries then screw the alarms on to their bases. It looks simple enough but its a bit fiddly. I managed to fit both after only a few seconds each of faf.
I hope I never have cause to find out if they will go off if we have a real fire. The alarms themselves are supposed to last 10 years but the batteries will need replacing every 12 months or so.
