Bluetooth control is super smooth on this set far better than the standard analogue controller and nice train for the money being a starter kit
just have to get the expansion kits now already added another six wagons to it and it looks great.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBought as a Black Friday Deal this is exceptional value for money. It’s almost 50% cheaper than the Hornby catalogue price and if you tried to buy all of the contents separately it would stretch to more than 200.

As the description says it is based on Hornby’s Railroad range which, while less detailed, are more robust for children to use. Even so the quality of the construction and the design are very pleasing.

Setting up is fairly straightforward if you have some model railway experience – the rail joiners (fishplates) are very stiff and must be manipulated carefully but at least this means they should not come apart in use. The step by step guide is quite easy to follow.

The App however caused some trouble – I had to set Bluetooth in the App to Standard Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) rather than ‘Mesh’ to connect. Once connected it became very straightforward to operate (and there is plenty of advice on YouTube).

My biggest gripe is with Amazon’s delivery service – as others have noted it came without any external protection, just a delivery label stuck to the box. I can see that this is more ‘economical’ and ‘environmentally friendly’ but it does spoil the appearance especially if it is purchased as a gift.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI am basing this review on the amazingly low price of 87:32 Amazon was selling this for.
For a starter set it’s brilliant, plus with the new Hornby HM App Controller you are getting future proofed.
The Diesel locomotive works well and looks good too.it responds well to the slider controls on my iPad and it’s basic sound selections are ok for the price paid.
The three wagons are decent Hornby basic wagons and run nicely.
I had no problem pairing the controller with my iPad using Bluetooth.
The oval track and point for siding adds great value.
As I said if you are paying the lower end of100 it’s a steal but I certainly wouldn’t pay the150 some are asking,I don’t think it’s worth it.
To sum up,if you are looking for a simple small starter set you should be pleased with this.

I’ll be honest connecting my iPad with the app to the box is tricky but once it’s connected away you go.
Excellent and my old (1960s) Triang trains run on it as well.
