This is the second purchase of this model. The first we bought over from the UK and had it for years there but the sea air and salt finished it off here in Ireland. Replaced it with the same and protected the chrome bars from the extreme sea air, perfect.

Self-assembly required. Simple and straight-forward to assemble if you follow the instruction video on the Amazon product page (video also available to view on the manufacturer’s website) rather than the instructions printed on the product box. Robust, good quality hose reel.

This is a light-weight item and the assembly instructions (for me) were clear enough. Once assembled it was a case of where to put it.
I did not want to put it on the wall (mainly because it would stick out too much) but did want it fixed near to the outside tap. So I fixed it to a paving slab by the tap – I used two of the supplied fittings and it works a treat. If I ever need to It is easy to detach and carry elsewhere.

I have 30m of hose on the reel and it would take more. This makes life so much easier, my only issue is why did I not get a hose reel ages ago! 🙂

Excellent product that keeps the hose kink free. Easy to manoeuvre around the front and back of house. I read the reviews before I purchased and so glad I did as the set up would have been unnecessarily complicated if I hadn’t watched the YouTube tutorial.

I purchased this product on 27th June last. It was to replace a hose reel that I had been using for many years. The hose reel came in kit form but was very easy to assemble from the instructions supplied. I have my hose reel fixed to my wall and have already used it. The hose reel once properly assembled, using all the bits supplied is pretty sturdy. Well pleased with my purchase.

Ideal size, although my hose is only 40m it is easier to wind in when you have plenty of space. The reel operates smoothly and is much better than my old one. The instructions were not the easiest to follow as it is just pictures on the box, I could not determine where the long spring went (fits inside the hose) as the picture was not clear, had to look online where there is a good video. Very pleased now it is all fitted up.

Great addition to the garden. Works well and wasn’t hard to put together for this pensioner. To fit the two parts of the reel together I simply put a block of wood on it and tapped gently down on it. Fitted tightly and no damaged from hammering the block of wood.

Exactly as pictured and as described. Easy to follow instructions, i had it assembled in roughly 15 minutes. My 50m hose fit on it, still some room left on it so it would perfectly fit a 60m hose. I fid swap out the wall plugs that were provided for a more heavy duty wall plugs from my local hardware store to mount it to the wall. Overall, excelle

There’s a YouTube tutorial to help build this. I do agree it is a bit of a pain and takes a while to build but the video breaks it all down for you – better than the box pictures! Other than that, the product is great and makes life much easier.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGot this to run the 15 metres to our back garden fence and it takes the long hose and metal hose head with ease. The handle to wind it back up is easy to use, the mounting robust, although you do need to feed the hose with one hand so it doesn’t just coil up at one side.
Where it loses points for me is with the terrible installation instructions. The wall mount rawl plugs come with a handy guide and even a paper template to help with the measuring (not that I needed it), what wasn’t obvious was, bizarrely, after measuring out the two points for the wall mounts to go, it has an additional step, after installing the first wall mount, of adding roughly another 10cms onto the second one so that the whole unit doesn’t rattle around. I, unfortunately, missed this step, so my reel has a tendency to move around more than I’d like. Still sturdy, but why measure out two spots and then add another distance and another step because the first instruction is wrong?!
Similarly, I ended up putting one part in the wrong side (easy mistake) but there are certain steps that cannot be undone once you’ve gone through them. Took a lot of digging to find the spare parts department (their website says it’s closed but you can email them and they will sell you the part, despite what their website says) and got a spare sent out without too much difficulty or cost.
I know it’s a common complaint with this model but they really need to overhaul the instructions and/or the assembly to make it more straightforward!

It’s not the best quality I expected better build quality
Replaced the old on I’ve had for years that finally gave up to the effects of uv from the sun and becsm brital
This one is flimsy the mounting brackets don’t make me feel this will last the hose drips at its connection was hoping it would be a push fitting but it’s not the handel is plastic sure the addvert said metal the fitting instructions are wrong on the dimensions the drum spindles are not the best don’t think I’m going to get the service out of this I had from the last one but may be that how things are now wish I’d spent a bit more and got bette

It took me about an hour to assemble the hose reel. The instructions on the box (also available online) are not very clear as others have stated. For example, no mention of the spring that was included and the drawing showing which connectors to use to attach the pipe to the reel etc are very unclear. It would be simple to fix this problem by including some more detailed (with bigger pictures!) printed instructions in the box. Once the hosepipe reel is assembled it seems sturdy, though I have a small leak where the pipe attaches to the reel which despite using Gaffer Tape (as suggested by another reviewer) I can’t get rid of. I wonder if it’s because it ‘s not a Hoselock hose, though everything else, connectors and hose gun, are??!? Hence the overall Star rating.

I bought one of these about 2 years ago and I’m pleased to see with this new one that the reel connections have been changed. The old version kept pushing apart and I ended up using a plastic glue between the two parts, which failed this week. The new version looks much more secure though I’m going to use glue again before bashing the parts together.

I had no idea what the spring was for with the first one and assumed it had been accidentally included. I was surprised to see the spring in this one, googled it but found nothing. Came back on here and read the comments, so now I know what it is for!

Like others on here, I detest these image-only instructions. FGS Hozelock, at least have written instructions on your website to help your customers! Just a little thing can be so helpful.

PS A day later and as I went to put it together I realised I have 2 LEFT sides. Emailed Hozelock about it. Tried to take the old one apart for recycling and noticed that in fact the drum connectors are the same, so l will definitely glue the 2 halves together.

I suppose you get what you pay for. At 34 it’s ok. I assembled it in about 20 minutes. The pictogram instructions are pretty rubbish, particularly fitting the anti-kink spring (which is useless anyway as it’s way to flexible) and the screws (I got the wrong ones to start with until I realised there were others in the bag containing the connectors).

I fitted 25m of triflex hose which was comfortable but you’d never get more than about 30m on the reel.

The winding handle managed to snag my skin between my thumb and forefinger resulting in a large blood blister! Very poor design. The internal hose connector also needs extra tightening before fitting otherwise will result in leaking like others have said.

Overall it’s ok for the price but could be better.

Golden Review Award: 83 From Our UsersI have to report that I had absolutely no trouble whatsoever in assembling this product. The wife did it! I was still trying to understand the ludicrous hieroglyphics that pass as instructions when she said: “Here, let me have a go” and somehow stumbled through the whole process of joining up all the plastic and metal bits – even clicking the two halves of the wheel together with the aid of a towel and some vicious blows with a hammer. (The words “It only takes a woman……” are still ringing in my ears!) Frankly, I would have sent this back otherwise, bcs I object to the fact that Hozelock are so arrogantly disrespectful of their customers that they cannot be bothered to supply a proper instruction leaflet. I am thinking of forwarding two other complaints to Hozelock. No.1, some of their drawings showed a brick wali, But there was no brick wall in the box when I opened it, So if this is a part of the items supplied, how am I supposed to use this reel as a wall-hanging reel
until they send me one? And No. 2, there is a serious printing error on the outside of the box: It says “5 Years Guarantee”, but it should say “5 Years Assembly Time”!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAs has been stated over and over in the reviews, this piece of kit is not easy to assemble and requires considerable strength to get the two halves of the drum to clip together. That said, the rest of the bits are easy to fit with one exception. Now, perhaps I am the only one who has got a set of instructions that contains a glaring mistake but I doubt it!

The part which is to be inserted into the opposite side of the drum from the handle, i.e. the hose attachments part, is shown to be inserted from the inside of the drum to the outside. It then shows the male hose attachment that screws on to this part (when it has been pushed through the drum) being fitted on the outside of the drum. If it is assembled this way then the inlet hose fitting is going to be rotating at the same rate as the drum and not held stationary as it should be! Very simply, push the long part with the attached male hose connector through from the outside and screw on the the other hose connector inside the drum.

Now I may have got this all wrong BUT my hose reel works perfectly having used my alternative assembly procedure. I’d love to hear from other buyers just how they managed. Overall however, I still think this is a good hose reel it’s just a pity the drum is so hard to put together and the instructions are wrong.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersWhen first looking at the instruction leaflet, both sides of the leaflet show the side handle to be on the left side of the reel; however because the views show a different reel position on each side of the page, it creates confusion. It was important for me to have the handle on the right, so recommend the following pre-construction method to determine the correct orientation. 1). Identify and locate the parts on the drawing 2). Attach the hose union stub through one half of the cylinder and through one of the side members, lightly screw on the tap connector type hose union fitting. 3). Place only the two cylinder halves together and offer up to an adjacent wall with the substantial hanging lug uppermost as it would be when fitted to a wall. 4). Hold the other side member which will have the handle fitted against the other side of the cylinder with the substantial hanging lug uppermost as side 2 of the instruction leaflet. 5).you will immediately see whether the side handle is positioned to suit your requirement. It is now easy to change over the hose union stub to the other side member if the opposite hand is required. 6). Permanently fix the handle into the other side unit and disassemble the hose stub, fittings to enable easy assembly of the cylinder halves. ( once the handle has been permanently fixed to a side unit the handing of the unit is established).
7). Assemble the two cylinder halves by spraying all 8 joining lugs with silicon lubricant spray or second best washing up liquid, place on protective cover locate connections carefully and sit firmly / bounce on top to close with ease. To improve longevity of life, attach 22 mm split hose to lower metal support tube and fix with duct tape; possibly water hose or car coolant hose which will still fit into the lower bracket. (acknowledge earlier recommendation)
Recommend drill through metal tubes with a 2 mm HSS drill bit using the plastic screw holes as the guide initially to mark the tube; if preferred remove the tubes after marking to drill through the tube. This gives a permanent screw fixing into the tube.
I have also as recommended elsewhere fitted an aqua fitting to the hose spur in the centre of the cylinder to prevent back pressure blowing the hose off the reel.
This is an excellent hose reel for the money and I anticipate it giving years of service. I hope the above explanations are of assistance to the less competent self assembly DIY who may otherwise have been put off from purchasing.

I hestiated to buy this as it sounded as though putting it together would be impossible. However, I went ahead and am very pleased with it. It arrives in a large box in an astonishingly large number of pieces but I’m practical so managed to assemble it. Getting the two halves to click together WAS difficult and it DID hurt my hands, but eventually I managed it (middle aged woman!). The finished article isn’t THAT much bigger than the box, so why Hozelock doesn’t sell it ready assembled I do not know. The number of products they get returned because people can’t assemble them must be huge, and one can’t help thinking that the extra cost involved in producing ready-assembled products in slightly larger boxes would overall be financially beneficial for them. I bought this to replace a more expensive enclosed Hozelock with a green plastic casing and a winding handle, which practially gave me a hernia everytime I tried to pull it out. It now winds onto this reel incredibly easily, with almost not effort and no struggling, it is smart, the reel spins round so easily and it just makes life better!
I’ve knocked one star off for the pain I endured to my hands after I got the two halves snapped together – the product is worth 5, and would get 5 it is came pre-assembled.

Before I review this I just wanted to say I have not connected up the internal hose connection which I will explain.
Its plastic, basic instructions which were easy to follow but not detailed enough to avoid mistakes.
Comes with 12.5mm hose connections and basic spray adaptor.Wall mounts included plus wall mounting plugs and screws.
I needed a reel to store a hose I use for pressure washing. My hose is Hozelock Super Tricoflex which is a robust hose and is 15mm in diameter. Now the connection that come with this are for 12.5mm but Hozelock say it can handle 15mm but not with my hose. I purchased Hozelocks 19mm connections to suit this rather thick layered hose and there is no way the end connection will fit the reels internal connection as the connector is too large length wise and hits a plastic section which fits between the 2 plastic wheeled units.
Thats not a problem and not one i would expect most to run into but I mention it just in case.
Was nice and easy to fit together but some strength is needed for fitting the plastic wheel sections together.
    Free rolling, cheap and light.

This wasn’t difficult to put together (regardless of what some reviewers are saying). Can’t remember it taking too long at all.

It’s designed so that it can be floor-standing, or wall-mounted. The top handle is angled, but this doesn’t affect the carrying, and I suspect it’s angled merely as a continuation of the part that sits on the floor (even though it isn’t one part, and the join is concealed under the grey plastic)

The top handle is fitted into the grey sheathing, and then secured via screws (the screws don’t penetrate the metal handle, but ‘dig’ into it. This method of fixing doesn’t give you all the confidence in the World that the handle isn’t just going to pull out when you carry the product (laden with the hose), but there have been no problems so far. I guess if you want something that is guaranteed to last forever, then expect to pay considerably more than the price of this.

I’ve had it for some time now (18 months), which makes this review carry more weight than me doing it after having the product for 2 days, as at least you know it does have some longevity.

Really, I’d like to give it 3.5, but as I can’t do that, 4 isn’t undeserved.

It’s not going to blow you away, but it does what it says on the tin!

There is little I say about this item that many others have not already said before, except they are all right!!

Yes, it is very difficult to attach the two halves of the hose reel and I was sure it would break, but after a lot of thumping with my hands, eventually they snapped together (a rubber mallet would be the best tool to use though).

Also, like others have done, I found that the handle ended up on the left side, instead of the right, despite following the rather inadequate assembly instructions, to the best of my ability. Mind you, I did notice that the pictures on the box do actually show the handle on the left. Be aware though that if you get it wrong, you will seriously struggle to correct your mistake, because once those bits have snapped together, it is really a one way trip!!

Despite all this, it is a very good quality hose reel and does the job perfectly. Despite the handle being on the wrong side, it is no real cause for concern. You soon get used to it.
