For years, I’ve been struggling with bar clamps that require you to hold them with one hand while you tighten them with the other. I decided to treat myself and get some clamps that can be operated with one hand (yes, I’m a bit behind the times). Guided by other reviews, I chose these, and I am more than happy with my choice since they seem to be of good quality (which, for this kind of product, means they don’t wobble about while you are working on whatever they are holding down). I only wonder why I waited so long.

A proper set of clamps. I’ve used these for years and they’ve never failed me despite being covered in glue, paint and on the odd occasion being left out in the rai

    IRWIN Quick Clamps.

I’m a real fan of Irwin tools. The quality and price are always spot-on. The clamps hold firmly, and release quickly also. I will definitely be purchasing another set of clamps very soon.

The Irwin Quick-grip g-clamps are a solid option for those who enjoy woodworking or metalworking, whether they are professionals or just DIY enthusiasts. These clamps are designed to deliver a secure grip and can be easily operated with one hand.

One of the notable features of these clamps is their durability. They are made from high-quality materials that are strong enough to handle heavy use and can last for a long time. Additionally, the quick-release trigger makes them effortless to adjust.

Another advantage of these clamps is their fair pricing and value for money. They are reasonably priced and offer excellent quality and durability without breaking the bank.

Overall, if you’re in search of reliable clamps that can accommodate various tasks and offer good value for money, the Irwin g-clamps are a viable option to consider. They are sturdy, easy to use, and capable of meeting your needs.

You won’t know how you did anything without them once you have them. Always short of an extra hand when in the workshop? Get these now! The 6″ ones will swallow most things you’re likely to need it for.

I love these Irwin clamps and have a number of them in different sizes and duty ratings. Cannot have too many of them when building complicated woodworking projects – I have 10 and probably will buy more. Very happy with the quality and performance of them.

Some reviews here about how the grip is not strong. Whilst I agree, I also did find these perfect for what I needed it for. They didn’t damage the wood as I was using it to hold the tool that makes holes on the sides of (Kitchen) Cupboard for drilling equal distant holes and holding shelves. I would say these are also good for holding say 2 bits of wood when gluing / biscuit joining.

Why oh why did I not get me a pair of these before, I put of buying a set thinking, will I use them, I’ll use them once then they will be just put in a drawer and forgotten about. How wrong I was, these are like having an extra pair of hands, I’ve used them on everything from putting my kitchen in, to building a camp for my son, don’t think about it, just get them, you won’t be sorry!!!

I use my clamps (21 of this length and about a dozen of the 300mm) for almost everything, even when I’m using TIG as long as it’s not anywhere where they become hot or even melt.
Mostly they’re used for Woodwork, and they are so very useful, especially when you’re glueing up two long pieces (they’d be narrow of course), although I have several sizes of other models of Irwin Clamps, and they are ALL brilliant. I’ve never managed to bend or break any of the parts except maybe the pads on the end, I lost one somewhere and it’s been lost for over six years now so I’m unlikely to find it ( I’ve never seen any spare pads for sale anywhere).

Rest assured, if you buy these clamps you will never be disappointed in their quality, performance or their longevity …… there are cheaper variants around but they are all rubbish as far as I’m concerned as I’ve tried several over the the last 50 years (I’m 70 and I’ve seen most of em ).

Stick with these and you won’t go wrong!

These are excellent clamps, well made and easy to use. They can also be used as spreaders simply by moving the jaws.
However, some sellers are linking these with IRWIN QUICK-GRIP Corner Clamp Pads and showing them as “customers also bought….”, implying that these clamps and the corner clamp jaws can be used together, be careful as they are NOT compatible. The corner clamp can only be used with medium and heavy duty clamp.
My five star rating is for these clamps only.

The actual clamps are excellent, they do exactly what they say and the price is very good, however they have a really annoying problem, they are upside down, every clamp I have ever used in my life has closed by moving my fingers upwards to close the clamp, this one closes by moving the top of my hand downwards. It may sound as if there is no difference here but operating clamps, or gripping anything, by moving the top of your hand downwards is not natural and it results in these clamps being rather more difficult to use that other clamps.
Update – After using a few times I really need to say that my original ‘upside down’ comment is not an issue and also add that after over a year of use with the inevitable ‘clamp it in a bit harder than you should’ on some jobs, these clamps have coped easily with this abuse and are still going strong hence the upgrade from four to five stars.

Golden Review Award: 38 From Our Usersyou know when you use something you think to yourself why didn’t I get one of these before. these clamps are one of those things . I am not a good DIY person I can reduce wood to sawdust easily and ruin most things I try to fix. Normally if I need a helping hand I can call on the hands of Mrs C as long as its not to cold and its not raining. when it is cold and raining I have my grandson shaky Jake who will turn up to lend a hand if I need it. however in these times things are more difficult I and Mrs C are shielding , we do have our 9 year old grandson staying with us as his mum works in the local hospital and doesn’t want to risk him becoming infected. But have you tried peeling a nine year old away from x box and I pad its not easy. I have been repairing my raised beds in the veg garden and I struggled on my own . Both Mrs C and bear the fortnight expert were far to busy to help so I was on my own. these clamps are brilliant its like having a Mrs C or a bear with you all the time . I have used them a dozen times since they arrived . the next task I have for them is to hold some plane wood while I try my hand at chip carving. a great pair of extra hands.

5.0 out of 5 stars its another pair of hands

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersI initially bought six of these to try out in the college workshops where I work, and despite the best efforts of the learners to misuse and abuse them, all but one lasted the whole academic year.
That one however did stand up to being squashed in a vice, and then many blows with a hammer before the learner managed to damage it beyond safe usage.
He couldn’t tell me why he felt the need to break it, and due to this and several other behavioural issues, eventually the college did not feel the need to retain him on the course!
Over the years I had previously tried several different styles and makes of ‘G’ and ‘F’ clamps and cramps, but none had lasted more than a few weeks without having to be replaced, so although these were more expensive than others, they more than proved the old adage that you get what you pay for.
I bought many more, and in different sizes and styles, for use in the workshops and all have proved to be robust enough for use in that testing environment.
I was so impressed that I bought some for myself in a couple of different lengths for use in my home workshop, and am more than happy to highly recommend them to others

Golden Review Award: 41 From Our UsersExcellent clamps, bought 2, just bought 4 more. These are the go-to clamp for quickly applying pressure where you need it, with one hand. Even if you need to bring in the heavy artillery in the form of some metal G-clamps, these will be the things you use to hold things in place until you have both your hands free.

    Pros
They are designed to be used one handed. The clamp “pumps” tighter with the handle, and there is a “break release” on them too.
For what they are they are cheap (10 bucks for a pair)
Even though they are cheap, they are solid, well made and reliable.
They come in a variety of sizes, but this size is actually pretty strong and effective for a plastic and metal mechanical clamp
Every god damned knife making video I see has 3 things in it: A metal file, a Sharpie pen, and Irwing clamps. It says something that they are what the pros use.
They have removable rubber/plastic pads. I say this because Ive had to take them off when i got gack on them, and also because thus far, they have never marked, or scratched, anything Ive clamped.
Just to reiterate… these clamps main function is to be a decent clamp, that you can put on ONE HANDED. Let that sink in.

    Cons
If you really have to clamp the hell out of something, for compression reasons, you will need to use something like a metal G-clamp or a vice.
These are not intended as a substitute for a press. These clamp things in place, with reasonable force. Youre idea of reasonable might be 150 kilos, which these wont do.
The are plastic and metal, so if you get epoxy or resin on them you had better clean them real quick.
If you need to clamp something in place to use heavy tools on it (rasp file, grinder etc), one will not be enough. This said, thats not what they are designed for.

    Conclusion
The best recommendation I can give is that I bought 2 because I kept seeing them in knife making videos, and tonight I ordered another 4, so I can use six on the same project. (Micarta press, gluing handles etc). I know some people are going to get these and think “jeez they dont compress hard enough!” but the point is this: Even in situations where you need to use heavy metal G-clamps, how are you going to hold things in position whilst you apply them? With Irwin clamps you can hold everything together with one hand, and quickly clamp them together with the other. If the combined pressure is not enough, you can go get your G-clamps knowing everything is held in place.

This said, one of the reasons I ordered more is that they are so quick, easy and convenient to use, having a few more means I can get the extra pressure on. Then one click, they release. Ive voted with my wallet, these things are so handy.

Top tip: Get a roll or two of wax paper. If you are doing projects with glue and resin, slapping down 20 pence worth of wax paper between your clamps and the job, will save you potentially hours of cleaning up afterwards.
