Finally made the switch over to cordless now that battery technology has drastically improved.
I believe with Makita 2x18V 5amp batteries working together this is as good as you’ll get for a rotary (non cylinder) cut.
On the higher settings it cuts with no problems at all. My lawn is small 8m x 4m but on a single cut of not overgrown grass set on medium no effect seen on battery at all.
I got 4 cuts with no problems before batteries were at 25%.
For general lawn maintenance I usually cut weekly at 1 off the lowest and it’s a doddle and look good. If we have something special going on I’ll cut on the lowest and it looks great. I can’t imagine you’d want it shorter. On the lowest setting or encountering thick overgrown areas it will react to resistance ie bottoming out on uneven ground. It appears to slow down and you will need to also slow down and/or back off and repeat. I believe this is the protection for overheating and not an indication of weakness. This hasn’t been a problem for me and has just encouraged me to keep on top of the lawn and also improve the evenness with top dressing.
All of which is a simple 15 minute job with this tool.
This mower meets my needs perfectly. It’s convenience and simplicity makes mowing a pleasure rather than a chore and I cannot rate it high enough.
I appreciate that my lawn is relatively small and already well maintained. If you have a large thick/overgrown/wet or very uneven lawn this may not be the tool for you and you will probably be best to stay with petrol/mains.

Only used a couple of times but this last time I had left the grass nearly 3 weeks and thought it would struggle with the 25 cm high patches. Took it slowly and no issues. It’s lightweight compared to my old petrol mower and doing my front and back lawn Only used one blip of battery. Very glad I switched to electric.

Bought this to replace a broken Gtech mower. This is way better made. Seems more powerful and gives a really good clean cut.
You will need an optional mulching plug if you want to use that feature.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI had to replace my faithful old petrol mower of 30 years. This Makita was easy to assemble, has plenty of power and enough battery to cut my grass three times with some to spare. One of the brands suggested to me by a very helpful Lawn Mower Specialist in Sherburn in Elmet, I’m glad I listened. .
