Definitely one of our favourites, different in a very good way and the cast are fantastic. Fingers crossed we get a sequel before too long, although it’s a great standalone film as it is.

One of the better recent Marvel offerings, its humour raising it up over some if its contemporaries

Let’s be honest, this is more of a classic Kung Fu movie – jackie chan style – than a Marvel movie. And it’s AWESOME because of that.

Excellent. Only jarring note are the “cute” cgi animals toward the end and Ben Kingsley’s unnecessary appearance.

Added this to Marvel collection with a little trepidation but was surprised by the film on many points.
Made me remember some of the Kung Fu Marvel comics from my childhood and wonder whatever happened to them…
Can see now that it will fit in nicely with Dr Strange side of the MCU quite nicely and look forward to seeing what develops.
If you have a liking of Oriental mythology this film will pop your socks!

For keen fans of Marvel and the Avengers, this is another building block that they’ll not want to miss. For me it was not the strongest of storylines, but an interesting accompaniment.

So the story for this film is GREAT, and I loved this film when it came out. But when it came out on 4k, like most films, I always try to see how well they’ve done the CGI, and with most films it’s blatantly obvious where the CGI is, but I could hardly notice any CGI I the film, it was as if it was all actually real for the entirety of the film, like Marvel is really stepping the game up. Definitely a must buy!

As Disney seem to be milking this genre to death and have gotten into alot of gender swapping / race swapping I was a bit wary of what might happen with this movie ……but actually enjoyed this outing in the marvel universe , good mixture of action humour and a few corny moments but wee worth a watch if you like your Marvel movies

Loved the movie, one of the freshest things I’ve seen from the MCU in awhile. Just really disappointed that they continue to put such low effort into their 4k physical releases, especially where the Dolby Atmos is concerned. Bass response is lacking, and the only use of Atmos effects happens in the scene where Shaun wakes in his apartment near the beginning. So none of the epic battle scenes make good use of the Atmos format. I know this is a niche thing to complain about, but it’s disappointing nonetheless.

How can a person say the film sucked at the box office. Do you call 540,000,00 (half a billion ) sucked. It was the best entertainment I’ve seen in a long time and the best fight scenes you will see on the screen. Dolby Atmos pretty good too. In fact all good, go buy

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersA prequel to what should be an excited movie series from Marvel/Disney.
The film is a great view on the 4k format.
It tells of how thousands of years ago how , Xu Wenwu (Tony Chiu-Wai Leung) discovers the mystical ten-rings hich give him immortality and great powers, which he uses to gain power down the years rather than do good.
In relatively modern times he hears of a secret and sacred place he knew little of ‘Ta-Lo’ where he was to fall in love with Fala Chen as Ying L they would have two children who early on would be trained in martial-arts, a tough regime for the young Xu Shang-Chi / Shaun:(Simu Lui)
In modern day, living in San Franciso calling himself Shaun he soon finds his skills useful.
In time he will search for his estranged sister Meng’er Zhang as Xu Xialing who now runs a competitive martial-arts club.
Events will bring the two face to face again with their father who seeks to find his wife who had been killed years before, this brings them to ‘Ta-Lo’ where Shang Chi and his sister help defend Ta-Lo in direct conflict with their father……..their aim to stop Wenwu’s misguided quest.
This is a very enjoyable action-packed movie which will leave you wanting more.

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersAnother Marvel comics movie. This one takes one of their lesser known characters, martial artist Shang-chi. And gives him a film of his own.

This is not a jumping on point to Marvel movies, as pre knowledge of some other ones will help.

Shang-Chi lives in America. He has a past he thought he left behind. He enjoys karaoke with his best friend [Awkwafina] and he just lives. He has martial arts movie posters on his bedroom wall.

But then his past catches up with him and he is forced to fight. Head across the world. Discover his past. And his destiny…

Like the Black Panther film, this does a good job of showing this world outside of America. It’s very stylish in representing it’s culture and has some great art direction. It does manage to get a lot of exposition in without being overwhelmed by it, which is not something all comic book movies that have to do that manage.

Awkwafina is quite entertaining playing a character who could easily be very annoying. The first action set piece is terrific, original gripping and really well done.

And all in all, it does succeed by being a little bit different to what has come before.

There is an entertaining surprise as well. Which succeeds in doing some good continuity.

Minor quibbles: it’s ten minutes too long. My attention did wander during some of the quieter moments and scenes of people talking. One flashback is a bit extraneous. The character of his sister ends up being rather underused.

And outside of the first set piece I mentioned, they forgot to put any other bits of jeopardy in here. Of the other two set pieces, the first doesn’t carry any because you don’t believe people are going to get hurt. And the final big battle set piece is yet another of these. We’ve seen them all many times now, and even though this has some different elements, it’s still too same old same old.

But all in all an entertaining watch, and those who like their martial arts movies, or who like to pretend to do such things when watching fight scenes, will be entertained.

Do as ever keep watching to the very end of the closing credits for a couple of extra scenes.

    The dvd has no extras.

It goes straight into the main menu when loaded with no traillers or ads.

As ever it’s not got a 3d option because only two people who don’t understand the meaning of the phrase review the product actually care about such things.

    Language and subtitle options are:

Languages: English, French, Spanish, English audio described.
Subtitles: English, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Spanish, Swedish, French, Dutch.

Although it doesn’t mention French or Dutch on the box, I checked the disc and both are on the menus.
