Shoe sizes are not standardized. Every shoe manufacturer uses different measurements in terms of instep height, toe shape and foot width. However, the basis for your own shoe size is always the length of your feet. Thus, you should always determine your foot length before buying in order to choose the right shoe.

My second pair of Merrell walking shoes, but my 1st pair with Goretex. Overall, I like the style, quality & fit. I chose to go up a half size from my usual size 8 & they fit perfectly. The only caveat is that with the Goretex lining they are too warm for me in hot weather. Definetly more suitable for colder conditions.

I’ve been wearing these Moab 2 GTX shoes frequently for six months and they’re still in excellent condition including the soles. No problem at all with waterproofing, at least in an urban environment. I got caught out walking today without rain gear in a heavy downpour. My clothing was drenched, I was soaked to the skin, but my feet stayed dry.

There is one drawback. I bought these shoes hoping they’d be like my previous Merrell’s which looked very similar in photos. My old shoes were light and really comfortable. The soles on this shoe are twice as thick and quite heavy, so they feel a bit clunky. Even so, no regrets in purchasing them. They have good arch support and they’re good value for 70.

Been buying a pair of these each year for about five years now. I wear them everyday till they start leaking. Great shoes and waterproof in all weather. The slippy laces are a minor irritant but just require a double bow.

Seems better made than my previous pair. Quite cool to wear. The fit is really good and supportive. I’ve done a few 4mile walks in them and no rubbing. Soles are curved slightly towards the toe, not noticeable in a bad way. Seem to have better lacing than my previous pair. I’d recommend these over cheaper Merrells.

I bought these to replace an old pair that I have had for 3 years; if they are as good as the old ones, I will be happy.
They are totally waterproof, comfortable and the Vibram soles are extremely hard wearing; I estimate that I have walked well over 5000 miles, over all types of surface, in the old ones, and it is the uppers that have finally started to split.
    Great value for the price.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMerrell is my favourite casual walking shoe. I found these to be a little bit on the ridge side and not a supple as my previous ones, hoping as time goes on they will soften up. though would buy again as I find they last the course.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersHave had 7 Moab GTX and 5 non GTX for the last 13 years, these are waterproof unless it comes over the ankle. Main difference with these is the tongue is stitched in, whereas other Moab GTX have had the tongue loose where water once on to the tongue filters in.
Other difference with these Vibram soles they are much harder and a different pattern. 4 weeks on, perhaps done 30 miles they do feel hard and quite loud on tarmac etc like a work boot clunking away. Feet were raw after a 7 mile walk, had to wear other shoes for a few days. Heard GTX 3 are even harder soles.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBought these for walking the dog so wanted something lightweight, waterproof and comfortable.
For me these run small, I’m a 10 and a 10.5 fits perfect (with normal socks).
I think the underfoot cushioning could be improved, feels good until you walk on the pavement then it feels a bit hard. I’ve replaced the inner soles with better cushioning ones.
They seemed to grip well on wet surfaces but have not come down a mountain side with wet rock underfoot.
Waterproofing wise they coped walking through small streams on the beach but obviously would need more exposure to comment on their true effectiveness.

I could have given them 3 stars but with even with their short comings i actually like them (and they look good) so 4 stars it is.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI purchased these having not tried Merrell before but had heard good things from friends who have had them and urgently needed to replace an old pair of Northface shoes that should have been replaced ages ago but I’m always reluctant to get rid of shoes I find really comfortable and therefore wear them until they nearly fall apart. I bought the size that I’ve always purchased in pretty much every other make I’ve had (NorthFace, Berghaus, Salomon etc) but on trying them on found immediately they were just on the small size and not something I could live with so ordered the next half size up and requested a return for the ones that didn’t fit.

Since the next size arrived I’ve worn them nearly every day and used them on a week away and haven’t had any issues with them, in fact they felt like a pair of shoes I’d been wearing for a lot longer and didn’t require any wearing in. I tend to be very picky with shoes and often have problems with heel blisters when I get new ones.

The only issue I did find, but more of an annoyance rather than an issue was a slight noise they make when walking, almost like a slight “crumpling paper” noise. This appears to come from the insole but I tend to swap these out so I’m not that concerned. Overall I’m really happy with this purchase and may well consider getting another pair in another colour.

Golden Review Award: 121 From Our UsersI am a long time ‘Merrell fan’ that always chooses Merrell’s that have the vibram soul, as historically it’s the soul in footwear that usually lets me down.
Size wise, I know this fits me, as I tried it on in a shop on the high street. I have a broader foot, so Merrell’s have always suited me in this area too.
It sounds silly, bit unfortunately, sizing really only is a guide today, as depending on the manufacturer, I take shoes sized from 10 – 12, so, don’t make assumptions, unless you specifically know the manufacturer and model of shoe you are purchasing.
I purchased these for a recent trip to Iceland, and together with some reasonably thick woollen socks, they were perfect, with the added knowledge that should it rain or snow, the Gore-Tex lining would keep my feet dry. The Gore-Tex wasn’t put to the test on this occasion, so that will have to wait for another time on these particular pair of shoes.
As with all ‘big name’ manufacturers these days, one always has to stay alert. Long time fans and die hard users of many well known and often expensive brands are reporting the same thing – deteriorating quality and longevity ! (This usually, but not always, coincidences with a change of manufacturing facility/process or country that goes hand in hand with the deteriorating product?)
I tend to purchase several pairs of Merrell’s each few years, one pair for more better, casual going out (which lasts me for many years), one pair for the regular walking, every day out and about I do, and believe me, I live in them and wear them to the maximum.
(I believe if buying a quality pair of shoes, they should be lasting more than 12 months !)
I basically then tend to wear them until they get relegated to garden duties, then the bin.
Having experienced both the non Gore-Tex and Gore-Tex version’s over the years, I now just stick to the Gore-Tex versions, as it doesn’t take much of a shower or very long in some wet grass, for the non Gore-Tex versions to soak through, but that’s just my preference and opinion.
Until my experience says differently, I am sticking with Merrell’s.
I hope this review has been of some help?

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersBought these for long distance walking and general use. Spent a lot of time reading reviews and trying on shoes in the same category. I have wide feet so these were easily the most comfortable. I’m a size 9 and found them to be true to size. The padding around the ankle is definitely a lot better than any other shoe I tried. Build quality is also superior to most other shoes however the heel cup is very roomy and requires the laces to be pulled very tight to prevent heel rub on the stiching line inside the heel cup which left me with a lot of tension over the top of my foot. Merrell claim “out of the box comfort” which is true, I walked 7 miles the first time I wore them but they do still require a bit of time to soften up also the footbed in my opinion is very rough and created a lot of hot spots in various areas of the shoe. The addition of superfeet insoles has elimiated the hot spots and also tightend up the heel cup a little. After a fair breaking in period the toe box has softened to the point that a lot of it has started rubbing across the top of my toes not helped by the fact the goretex lining is very loose around this area. There appears to be plenty of traction although I’ve only really worn them on decent surfaced paths. All in a pretty decent pair of shoes but not 100% the comfort I expected.
