Review for Carpenters Pencil Set 4PCS with 21 Refills and 1 Center Punch, Moseem Woodworking Tools Set, Carbide Scriber Tool, Mechanical Tracer Pencil Marker Marking Tool with Built-in Sharpener

Doing more and more woodworking tasks over the past couple of years means more f need to mark cutting lines ensure correct cutting and drilling. The kit includes different coloured mechanical pencils to ensure that the marks are easily visible on whatever colour surface, with several spare leads, with long narrow reach for marking in tight access. The pencils come clips for clipping onto pockets for convenience. Also of use is a scriber and a centre punch which for me pretty much all I need for woodworking. Overall nice useful set of woodwork tools, very well priced.

This is my first carpenters pencil set so I can’t compare it to others but I have no reason to think that this set isn’t as good as others as this works really well and is user friendly. There are so many pieces to it that I don’t think that I’d ever need to buy more lead for the pencils even if I used these every day. I love how narrow the ends are so that I can mark a spot in even the smallest of spaces and the built in sharpeners are great too. I just wish that this came in a container that would keep them together and safe rather than a plastic bag.

In thsi set you get red, yellow and black quality propelling pencils and you also get 4 fill leads for each colour. The pencils are easy to use and feel good in the hand, each one its own colour and made of metal. Y you get a scriber for marking lines and a centre punch for making unmistakable marks for drilling points. I’ve been making do with just some cheap pencils I bought at Tesco years ago – where has this set been all my life! All set now!

This carpenter’s pencil and scribing set contains three 2mm propelling pencils, each pencil has a (removable) sharpener in the cap of the pencil. Also in the set is an automatic centre punch and a scribe.

The propelling pencils have a cuboid profile amking them reasonably easy to grip. There are spare pencil leads in standard graphite as well as red and yellow. They work well for marking out wood but the propelling action didn’t always catch the lead when I put a new one in, so I had to shake it a few times to get it to catch.

The automatic centre punch (in sliver) and scribe (in brass) are at odds with the pencils in that they both have knurled metal bodies. The centre punch has a chunky plastic knob on top so that it doesn’t hurt the hand too much when marking a lot of holes. The scribe has a silicone cap becasue the scribe tip is not retractable but this is not a lid; it’s just a tiny cap that seems to be there to protect the plastic bag that the set comes in rather than for protecting your pocket. This is a particularly odd choice because there is a clip to attach it to a pocket. The clip is not at all tight around the scribe body, making it feel rather cheap.

All of the pencils and the centre punch (but not the scribe), have narrow (~5mm) bodies to reach tight spaces. The set is not great value considering some of the design choices made with the set but the pencils work well and the exrta leads come in handy (and at 2mm they are a standard size for replacement).

I do quite a bit of wood work at home and for years I’ve just made do with a pencil. But I can honestly say these are so much better than a standard pencil. Firstly you get the red or yellow leads and they are so much easier to see on wood than a grey pencil mark. I love that you can hold them nicely at the end and still have good control over the marking end. They don’t fit behind your ear well though if you are like me and put a pencil behind your ear while you are working then these may annoy you in that regard a little. But everything else is great. They are easy to locate as well thanks to their colouring. There are loads of replacement leads so you’ll not run out in a hurry. I like the center punch as well as it’s perfect for getting accurate drilling locations on the wool.
Overall I recommend these for anyone that’s into joinery or it’s their profession.

    Moseem Woodworking Tools Set
with Centre Punch, Carbide Scriber Tool Carpenters Pencil Set
The Moseem set comes in a tough plastic bag, inside the bag you will find three pencils, three packs of spare leads for the pencils, a scriber, and a centre punch.
All of the tools in the Moseem set seem well made and work well. The pencils are the clutch type where you expel the leads by pressing repeatedly on the tail end. New leads are loaded by removing the tail piece and inserting the lead down the central tube or you can hold the tail end button and insert them from the front end. The tail ends of the pencils contain a sharpener for the leads. The centre punch is the press type, you exert pressure on the end until a loud click is heard at which point the point has made an indent in the material. The amount of impact force is adjustable to suit different materials, adjustment is made by turning the red end piece clockwise to increase or anti-clockwise to decrease the impact force. The scriber is aluminium with a sharp tungsten carbide tip. The casings of the centre punch and scriber are knurled for better grip.
The scriber has a nice sharp point and marks everything on which I have tried it, especially metal where it leaves a very clear line. I have used the centre punch and it works okay although the adjustment range is a bit limited and I already have one I prefer, for which I paid more than this whole set. All of the items in this set are useful but I have found the pencils to be of the most benefit. The long thin barrel makes it easy to put markings closer to where I want them and I can now mark down through small holes, something not possible with normal pencils. Having a stock of spare leads is good although they are a standard size and widely available. The different colour leads are useful to show up better on different surfaces.

Well made propelling carpenters pencils in grey, yellow and red with 7 leads in each colour.
Each pencil has a small sharpener in the top too which is very handy.
These are far bigger than a standard ‘writing’ propelling pencil, far more robust, ideal for wood working.
There are also a scribe and sprung center punch included.
    Great set and good value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great set, good quality, fair price.

I gave this set to my friend to use at work as he is a builder, he said they are brilliant, he’s able to mark any surface with ease, the only problem is everybody wants them.
    Highly recommended

Amazing value for 12 delivered to your door.

So in essence its 3 mechanical pencils with three different colours of lead. then a couple of scribes.

Now whilst they aren’t the same quality of my rOtring, which works out 10 times more expensive, they still fell nice and the action is nice.

The lead is of decent enough quality as well.

    Genuinely a good buy.

In this amazing set you get 3 mechanical carpenter pencils with 21 refills, a woodworking pen, a scribe tool and a punch tool. It makes it much easier when you can do your markings in different colours. Comfortable to hold and clip onto a pocket. They are lightweight and great quality. A must have set for anyone who does woodwork and a great fathers day present !

This pencil and scribe set is perfect for a DIYer like me. There is not much wrong with a traditional carpenters pencil, but this is just better.

The pencils are stronger when writing/marking studwork and less reliant on my sharpening skills with a Stanley.

As a diyer, the punch and scribes are something you dont think you would use, but they end up being very valuable. There’s a reason these items are used by professionals.

The pencils are easy to change between different ‘leads’ and can be sharpened if needed.

This is a set of 3 mechanical pencils which can be used for marking off wood and other such surfaces. You get three different coloured leads – yellow, red and black, and you get 6 spare leads of each. You also get scribe tool which marks other surfaces where you don’t want the pencil to be rubbed off. They are really good quality and they are ideal for marking your wood out. It’s nice to have something which works better than a normal pencil and goes onto the surface you’re working with. Well worth the money.

This is a really good pack of marking tools at a decent price. The three pencils included are a really good design which allows marking a position through quite small holes. They seem well enough made and are easy to hols and use. The cap which can be removed to sharpen the lad is a great addition as well. Better than rubbing it on glass paper. If I had a criticism is that three coloured bodies are supplied but all have black lead fitted. Packs of red and yellow lead are supplied so I now have more spare black and les coloured!!.

Now to the leads. Plenty included of each colour and my only small critcisim here is that from the photos on the sales page I excepted them to be better at marking hard shiny surfaces. I think it will be back to the Sharpie for that.

Finally the markers. Not really woodworking but nice neat items for metal working. The auto centre punch could have a little more power but marks softer metals OK.

OK so there are a couple of minor criticisms here but together they are not enough to change my view that this is a really useful and good value for money marking tools worth the five stars.

I am replacing a large area of floor boards and thus a lot of marking out for cutting and indicating where the water pipes and joists are.

This kit is ideal and has worked as I expected.

    No complaints.

We changed our laminate flooring and this pencil was amazing, very useful, works perfectly on wood, is easy to hold and use.

For 17.99 you’ll get 3 solid pencils with 21 marker refills (red, yellow, black), 1 piece carbide scribe tool and 1 piece automatic center punch tool.

    Value for money

This set of pencils, scribe and punch is very comprehensive.
The pencils come in three colours with matching leads. Built into each one is a sharpener which is a nice touch. Also included are spare leads of each colour.

The scribe is very sharp and works great on metal including steel. However the automatic punch is a bit of a failure. The pressure it strikes with is adjustable , but even on full power makes hardly a mark in mild steel which is what I mainly work with. On softer metals is is okay, but again needs to be on full power.

Overall this is a reasonable set of pencils and scribe, but the centre punch is well below par.

Carpenters Pencil Set 8 Pieces with 21 Refill, Moseem Woodworking Tools Set with Center Punch, Carbide Scriber Tool, Mechanical Tracer Pencil Marker Marking Tool with Built-in Sharpener

    *The Good*
    good value
    coloured pencils work well
    Punches handy to have

    *The not so good*
    Nothing of note

This set of pencils and punches is actually a really good idea. It is absolutely ideal for popping in your tool box. How many times have you tried to fix a lamp to a wall or put a shelf up only to find you had nothing think enough to mark the screw holes? Well, this is your answer!

There are 3 shades of pencil with loads of refills, in red, yellow and black. There is a hidden pencil sharpener as well which, again, is a good idea.

The pen style gold marker is very sharp and will be good for surfaces like plasterboard and wood

The red top punch has a buffer to it so it can take a good hit for marking metals etc or to just use with hand force, being an automatic punch.

I am not sure about the lead keeping a point if you use it for anything other than drawing straight lines as opposed to marking holes but I do not see a way around this minor issue. The metal carbide scribe can be used to mark materials other than and including metal, such as ceramic tiles, glass and so on .

At the current price of 16.99 with a 10% off voucher, this set is recommended and very handy to have in your tool box.

The quality of this pencil set is amazing! The pencils are very soft and work well on all surfaces. The set contains 3 colours. More than enough for a long time. Handles are convenient, extremely comfortable to hold. Didn’t have any problems. Highly recommended.
The only one thing which i didn’t like it is the packaging. It was a simple plastic bag (not very useful for storage)

When I saw this I thought it looked good value for money compared to my top brand for carpenter pencils I normally buy, so I was interested to try it out

They come in just a plastic resealable bag, which is fine by me.
The first thing I tried was the Automatic Centre Punch, mainly because it stands out from the rest and I have plenty of these over the years too, mainly because I have only found two that have worked properly, and this one didn’t work too well either, (you can adjust the ‘force’ by unscrewing it) so I turned my attention to the pencils.

They show the pencils in red, yellow and black, and on the Amazon web page they are shown with the corresponding coloured leads in each pencil, i.e. red lead in red pencil, yellow lead in yellow pencil and black lead in black pencil – but the day they assembled these though they must have run out of red and yellow leads, as they ALL had black leads in them… which was an annoying start as I had to swap the leads in the red and yellow pencils with ones from the ‘spare leads’ pack.
The red refills are wax by the way and not graphite.
The three pencils enable you to draw on metal, plastic, glass, wood and paper
Each of the three pencils does come with sharpener in the cap, just unscrew it out, sharpen the lead, then screw it back in again, job done, and no having to search around for a sharpener either.
The end of the pencils have a long and thin extended actual lead holder, making them useful for marking in deep holes, something that is almost impossible to do accurately with a conventional pencil.
I was quite happy with the pencils.

Lastly the scribe, which is carbide based and much stronger than steel so it ‘scribes’ easily it is nicely patterned to, making it pleasant to hold when you apply pressure.
It is supplied with a nice red protection cap for the end, so that you don’t stab yourself it you put it in your pocket (TIP : I NEVER put anything that has a point in my pocket, it will ALWAYS go in my toolbox – common sense to me anyway) and it is a good job it is red though because if you accidentally drop it, with any other colour it would be difficult to see, and of course it goes without saying – “Don’t loose it !”

    Conclusion :
Not a bad set, the two things that let it doesn’t in my books are the red and yellow pencils not having the appropriate leads in them and the Automatic Centre Punch not being the best either really.
The price is about right for what you get but it looses a star for the two points I have mentioned above so 4 stars from me.

This set is a very comprehensive marking kit and contains pretty much everything that you need for woodworking, metal working or just general building type work.

I would describe the quality as okay. Everything works as advertised and does the job but it feels a little bit on the flimsy side. I have bought marking pencils before from builder’s merchants and they feel better made and more durable than this set.

So overall I would recommend this set for the DIYer. I do not feel that it is durable enough to last for a professional craftsman but for the careful and casual user it should last for a very long time.

I am constantly breaking or losing pencils when I am working on a project – plus my pencils are invariably in need of sharpening – so when these arrived and I put them to the test, I was delighted.

These ‘pencil/markers’ have been well thought out. They are well made and do exactly what they are designed to do. They are of a good enough quality to do a splendid job and to not let you down. The fact that you have different colours is a real bonus, as it means if you have to use several marks, it is far easier to see what is where – simple and clever.

Another point, they actually feel good to hold and do not slip.

    Recommended.
