I already used an electric toothbrush which was 10 years old. My Oral-B IO, new toothbrush is fantastic. It cleans better than my old Oral-B toothbrush and the app that guides cleaning is is excellent. Would highly recommend this toothbrush.
They do what is claimed but we had missing parts on the first delivery (NO Exchange Option offered) so had to return and reorder whilst Amazon ket the original 400.00 + another 400.00, for 5 weeks before a full refund of the first order was refunded!!!!
I was lucky enough to get this with money off. I wouldn’t of considered Amazon for purchasing something like this but it was the cheapest place that I had seen this for sale. I love the product itself. It’s the best toothbrush that I have used in ages
Forget the expensive set with a couple extra bits. Get this one and save yourself some money.
Even this set its quite expensive for a toothbrush but it works so much better and feels much better to use. I will admit i was sceptical spending 5-6x more on a brush than i had before but not anymore. My mouth feels cleaner and the feedback provided by the brush and the app is great.
I’ve been using the Oral-B iO 9 brush for several weeks now and overall I’m quite impressed. The toothbrush has a lot of great features, such as the app that provides helpful feedback and coaching, and the rechargeable case which is a convenient way to keep the toothbrush charged on-the-go.
One minor issue I’ve noticed is that the toothbrush doesn’t recognize different users based on the brush head like my previous Philips Sonicare did. However, this is a relatively minor issue and doesn’t detract from the overall performance of the toothbrush.
The battery life could be better, but I’ve found that it lasts long enough for my needs. While it would be nice to have a longer battery life, the other features and benefits of the toothbrush more than make up for this minor drawback.
Overall, I highly recommend the Oral-B iO 9 brush to anyone looking for a high-quality electric toothbrush with a lot of great features and benefits
Good toothbrush which makes my mouth feel really alive and clean. Plenty of settings deep clean , tongue clean etc. I like the daily clean and the whitening setting the best. However I think it is a little expensive along with the replacement brushes so look out for a deal if you can get one.
I’ve got used to this quality of cleansing now but when I first started using this I could really notice the difference between this brush and my last Oral B (Which also wasn’t a cheap one) so would recommend, however, the travel case doesn’t seem to charge as promised so I always have to take my main charger as well because the battery life is only sufficient for a few days of twice a day brushing.
Absolutely let down by the unbelievable design choice of the heads having a series of little holes on the back; essentially turning the head into a reverse straw that sends toothpaste spit out from your mouth and all down the toothbrush, hand, arms and beyond every time it is used. The only way to avoid this is to keep your head perfectly straight and still and stand directly over the sink for 2 minutes. Truly baffling that such a high end product would incorporate this as a design choice. Also found if you try to talk while brushing and accidentally apply pressure, the toothbrush happily blows bubbles and toothpaste fluid out of the holes and into my eyes. A head redesign is badly needed please.
The toothbrush iself is brilliant, coming back to Oral-B after a few years in the Sonicare camp. As an aside the Sonicare brushes seem more fragile and both of mine failed in some way after about two years,
The Oral-B brush is very light, yet solid and it should be for the price. I’ve been around ‘smart’ toothbrushes long enough to avoid the app and turn off the bluetooth to save the battery. Performance is great and I quite like the colour display.
What lets this down for me is the poorer design of the supplie accessories. The travel case is relatvely flimsy, whould have been designed so the brush was clipped-in rather than rattling, and come with USB charging. This doesn’t feel like a 500 (it really isn’t) brush. If you have to carry a main charig lead for the case one might as well just carry the usual charging base – it’s well-designed and nearly as small.
I’m very happy overall but they could have done better and made this a premium *system*.
Despite a lot of the negative reviews I decided to go ahead with this purchase, I was in need of a better electric toothbrush and I liked the look of the features in this, as someone that is very heavy handed and have been told by my dentist that I brush too hard, I decided to give this a try.
From the onset, I knew that it is overpriced so to speak, it is somewhat of a luxury product, after a certain point, extra money does have a direct correlation with quality, that is a given and is something I knew before buying.
First of all, the brushing presets are all very good, the vibration pattern of the brush feels so much better than any other electric toothbrushes I’ve used. The toothbrush itself looks and feels very premium, and looks a lot more sleek than others.
Battery life was a concern of mine, my previous oral B toothbrush would last around 3 days before needing a charge, which was really inconvenient, whereas this one lasts around 14 days, which is perfect.
The app functionality is great, and so far every time I’ve brushed I’ve tracked it live with the app, in order to get perfect coverage and try to reduce my brushing pressure. I do wish that you could see the battery life in the app though, and I believe that this is something the toothbrush is lacking unfortunately.
The travelling case is also great, being able to use it as a power bank for your toothbrush is a great idea in my opinion, previously I’ve never used toothbrush travelling cases but I’ve used this one quite a lot.
Overall I would recommend this product, if you are not going to regret spending so much money on a toothbrush.
If you want value for money, then dont buy this, if you want a more premium product then go for it, and I dont think you’ll be disappointed.
I have used all sorts of brushes over the years, colgate, oral b, cheap poundland ones, all manual.
I switched to oral b electric ones but never really got on with them.
Then I switched to various Philips Sonicare brushes (when on offer). Concluded they are overhyped.
Due to issues with gums and teeth started looking for solutions. This toothbrush was on offer at 250, very expensive, but equivalent to the cost of two visits to a good dentist.
I use the gum care setting (having disabled all other options through the app).
It takes around three minutes – four minutes to do so properly. So, around 8 seconds a tooth or 16 seconds the whole of the tooth. My teeth feel totally clean, like having been to the dentist, and they pretty much remain like that all day. (I clean twice a day.)
I would highly recommend if you can afford it, or watch it using camelcamelcamel for when the price drops as that might help.
The app is awful. It has not been thought through. It rarely connects properly, making it necessary to restart the phone, after which point it does work.
As you work each quadrant really it should have a sandwatch type icon or a countdown so you know when to move and it should also let you increase how long you spend on your teeth, two minutes is just not long enough. There are a lot of gimmicks in the app which need removing. Real world usage would help them improve the app.
I went for the io9 because of the app and 3D cleaning oversight in the app and the AI but I feel that it is a gimmic, perhaps it will improve over time.
I did feel a bit shortchanged as but for the app any of the other iO toothbrushes would have been sufficient.
For anyone with tooth issues or who is not sure that they are cleaning their teeth properly or applying the correct pressure (this has a light up pressure sensor, green for ok, red for too much, your choice of colour for not enough pressure).
It is a useful tool and I do recommend it.
Let’s get the elephant in the room out of the way (for people like me anyway) – it’s 250. For a toothbrush. Pretty hefty. Luckily, Amazon let me pay for it in five monthly installments of 50 so it feels cheaper than it actually is. That being said, it’s expensive, but is it worth it? If you can afford it, yeah. If you can’t, or it may hurt a bit, definitely do not. I’m financially independent and highly irresponsible so retail therapy is my bread and butter.
It’s definitely a good toothbrush. It says good morning and goodnight to me more than my family do! The new toothbrush head feels like an upgrade to the previous one I used. There’s an on-screen timer that I can sometimes see if I have my toothbrush at the right angle and it does the job. My teeth definitely feel squeaky clean when I’m done and I feel like I’m tainting a sacred scroll when I go to eat. I currently only run it on sensitive mode, bar the initial intense cleaning when I first got it. Haven’t tried whitening yet but I’ve never been fussed about having the whitest teeth so doubt I will.
The toothbrush handle looks great. I’ve got the Onyx Black version. I feel as if I could take it into a job interview with me and they’d give the toothbrush the job over me. And it feels really good in the hand. The 6500 I used previously was pretty beefy so I had more of a gorilla grip on it but this one just fits into my hand really comfortably.
Battery life seems to be really good for now, but I’ve only had it a week. That being said, it is already holding the charge better than my 6500 did so I can’t complain.
I don’t know why but I bought the bundle with the charging travel case, even though I never travel. Nice addition though. Haven’t tested it so can’t comment on that. Doubt I will for a while what with… current events.
Speaking of current events. If you’ve been more dismissive of some personal hygiene routines since the world collapsed, what better way to get back into them by spending 250 on a toothbrush?
Final note: the app. I’ve used it once – when I got it. It’s definitely cool and I could see where some people would enjoy it. Personally, I don’t use my phone while brushing my teeth and never will. You can sync the app with the toothbrush after brushing but it doesn’t seem as good so I’ve just quit using it altogether. It’s cool but I don’t care enough. That being said, it’s definitely a cool little minigame for kids to encourage proper brushing. Though, the toothbrush still costs 250 (and if you’d spend that much on a child, please consider adopting me).
Overall, it’s a good toothbrush. Great even. Best toothbrush I’ve ever used. But, then again, it definitely has to be because it costs 250. Also, it costs 250, not sure if I’ve mentioned it?
If you have the cash floating around and you haven’t gotten an eletric toothbrush (or have an old one) it’s worth getting. However, I wouldn’t rush out to get it immediately.
It came with some charge so we were able to use it straight away and it completely blew us away with how powerful the brushing was. My first experience with an electric toothbrush was the Philips Sonicare Diamond Clean, which got rid of some serious staining on my crowded teeth in only a few weeks. However, when that stopped working after a few years, we swapped to the Fairywill which seemed like a cheaper imitation of the Diamondclean, but lacked the power. Due to this, stains built up again and we decided we really needed something of quality to look after our teeth and gums, particularly when Covid-19 means we really don’t want to venture to the dentist if we don’t have to.
The brush paired very quickly to my iPhone app, it was almost instant via Bluetooth. However, my partner’s Samsung phone couldn’t connect. The phone could see the toothbrush in the network, but the app couldn’t. So he can’t use the brush on his android phone. He had to download the app to our iPad, which is a bit awkward to take to the sink each time. For Android users, this I feel is a really big negative, considering the app is there to guide you with brushing and track your movements with the 3D motion. I feel like the reason this brush is so expensive, is because of that technology – it’s more than just the brush, but the whole tracking experience. Having said that, it’s definitely the Android app that is the issue and hopefully Oral B can fix with a simple update. It’s noticeable by the 5 star reviews for the app in the Apple Store and the appalling rating on the Android App Store.
The brush itself is incredible. It lights blue/white if you’re pressure is too light, red if it’s too hard, and green when it’s perfect. It also very accurately tracks the position around your mouth so you can see if you’ve spent enough time on all angles of your teeth. With the technology in the app, it tracks your history, so you can easily detect patterns with your brushing habits and ensure you get a deep, consistent clean.
We are using one brush unit with different colour brush heads each and the app isn’t able to distinguish between us, despite using different devices and our own log ins. When I use my brush head on my device with my account, it shows a ‘guided brush’ in my history. But I can also see my partner’s use as ‘unguided brush’ in my
history even though he connects to his app (on the ipad because he can’t connect to android) with his username. This is resolved by me manually deleting any unguided brushing, but it means the medals and achievements tend to be shared.
Overall, the brush itself is amazing – my teeth feel clean all day, I’m noticing improved whiteness, stains fading and we love the ability to track our oral hygiene in the app. However, for multiple users/brush heads, it is a bit of a hack. I’m more than happy to get around the app issues and continue having our own brush heads, rather than buy another toothbrush at this price. As with most things, it definitely has better integration with Apple compared with Android – if I had an android phone and couldn’t connect my brush, it would be a dealbreaker for me.
That said, this is the mother of all toothbrushes. I speak as someone who has used manual toothbrushes, original Oral-B electric brushes and lately a Philips Sonicare. This brush really is a huge step forward in electric toothbrush technology which, lets face it, hasn’t exactly changed much in the last decade or so…
So why is it so good? Well, firstly it seems to combine the advantages of sonic technology with the rotating round brush head. Is it actually sonic? I’m not sure, but the sensation is almost identical – albeit a lot gentler on the teeth and gums. It delivers a dentist fresh feeling after every use. Cliched I know, and I promise I’m not the pearly toothed guy on the Oral-B adverts, but it really does clean far better than it’s predecessors. The different modes are useful and easy to switch between. The pressure sensor is easy to see and when deliberately testing it, I didn’t feel like it was overly cautious or too complacent – it knows how you should be brushing.
This feels like a luxury item, and it is. It feels good to hold, is very intuitive and easy in its setup, and is supported by a surprisingly good app. I thought the app would be buggy, that the brush wouldn’t connect automatically, and that ultimately it would be a massive gimmick. But, it just works like it should and to be honest for this alone I feel far more comfortable about the hefty price tag.
The magnetic charging stand is great, a vast improvement on the original Oral-B chargers. Whilst I’d grown fond of my Sonicare’s charging glass, this is far more compact and doesn’t impose. The charging case is also good, I use the Sonicare one a lot when travelling and so to see Oral-B providing the same sort of case helped my overall decision to buy this brush. I would have preferred to see a micro USB charger or similar rather than a proprietary adaptor, as it’s another lead to pack, but ultimately this is a minor niggle.
Overall, this brush is brilliant. Is it worth the 250 asking price? Maybe. It is a luxury product, it is well made, it lives up to its promises and it just works exactly as it should without complaint. The supporting app is surprisingly good, credit to the developers. However, it’s still very difficult to sit here and promote spending 250 on a toothbrush. At least if you do, you won’t be disappointed.
This toothbrush is oral-b’s brand spanking new toothbrush that rrps for 499… yet days after going on sale amazon knock 50% off… 249 is still expensive for a toothbrush, but a lot better than the rrp.
But is it worth it?
I guess it really depends on what type of brushing you like, if you like gimmicks, if you like tech, and if you have the money (I also benefit from amazon offering to spread the cost over 5 months interest free).
Pros:
1. it vibrates and rotates – you have the best of both worlds.
My last toothbrush was an oral-b which are known for the rotating head that essentially brushes for you (for the most part). Before that I used a Phillips sonicare which vibrates. Personally I prefer the sonicare but at the time of needing a new brush o-ral b was better priced.
2. charging time – it’s fast
I’ve always had an issue with oral-b in the past taking ages to charge… I don’t have a shaver plug in the bathroom so every two weeks i would have to charge it for more than 24hrs.
This charges within about 3 hours. It also give you the percentage of the charge left (which helps).
3. the toothbrush head – it’s new
Theyve redesigned the toothbrush head that is supposed to clean better… it also becomes wider at the bottom so gives a sleek design and they’ve got rid of those clip on pieces of plastic (which i hated).
4. Series 9 comes with a charging travel case. It’s like an oversize glasses case that can fit one toothbrush head, plus the unit, and can charge your toothbrush whilst inside it. You also get another mini case for two additional brushes.
5. The base – small and mighty.
I has such as small footprint with a rubber bottom and is magnetic – so it keeps the toothbrush in place. There’s no nobbly bit sticking up and it’s easy to clean.
Cons:
1. The charging travel case is not USB. I honestly thought that this would have been usb-c or at least micro USB… that way when you are travelling you can use an existing cable to charge it. But for some reason they decided to put a shaving port on in and give you a 2-pin shaver cable. I picked up a compatible USB adaptor on amazon for 6.99 … i can charge anywhere there’s a USB port rather than having to mess around with plug adaptors or find a shaver plug.
2. The base – fixed cable… i understand why they had a fixed cable for ‘safety’ but I’ve seen other models that don’t. This would have allowed us (the consumer) to choose if we want to use a 3pin, 2pin, or even a USB cord (I’m being picky… but it is a 500 toothbrush… i expect more…lol)
neutrals/gimmicks
1. The app
I can honestly say that I only take my phone to the bathroom if I’m going to be in there are while sitting on the loo… I certainly don’t intend to be brushing my teeth after and I’m probably rushing to the loo to begin with… so i often don’t have my phone with me when i intend to brush my teeth BUT you get a lot of benefits if you do.
The app is very good in reminders, advice, etc.
With this brush it can detect the position (most of the time) so it can show on the app which areas need more focus.
My issue with this though is that the toothbrush costs the same as a midrange phone – yet most of it’s benefits come from contacting with another device… previous models came with a mini display – this should have done the same.
2. The display… this is great for setting up… gives a nice greeting when you pick it up… meh.
As i said before… for the price of the brush you should have got a separate smart display that could have attached to your mirror – that way you can still see whats going on without your phone and have all the setup and gimmicks on there.
Overall it’s a good brush… probably the best… is it worth 500 – no by a long shot (250 is pushing it). Oh, and the replacement heads are about 50 for 4 or 30 for 2 (ouch!)
If you’re not so bothered about the travel case, or having all the features – opt for the iO series 7… it’s cheaper (even cheaper in the sale)
