Like the instructions say, don't over-tighten and make sure you're getting the model for the material you are installing. I was removing old rotten masonite siding from a chimney and replacing with LP SmartSide 3/8" x 8" lap siding. These Gecko mounting blocks are awesome! Slide under the previously attached plank as shown in my pics. The question I had was "how much is a correct reveal" or overlap in the planks, however you look at it. I suspect each siding mfg., has their recommendation. LP has theirs for the 3/8" siding I used, of a minimum 1" overlap. These Gecko mounting blocks are adjustable each 1/4" so you can get the exact overlap recommended by the siding mfg.! Great product so far! Saved me a lot of time!

These are a lifesaver for anyone wanting to side your building solo. They clamp onto the last row installed and hold up the next row at consistent height for nailing. BUT, ... for me the shelf holding the next row would move away from the building as I clamped. I installed a special hook out of sheet metal and it worked, but for the money I shouldn't have had to. These are NOT cheap. Another plus is that you can adjust the lift height by 1/4 inch increments; after a while I got so I could adjust one in about 30 seconds. BUT, the allen bolt doesnt' fit any wrench I had; weird. Used a pliers. Still, an absolute MUST for me. Worth it in the end. FWIW, there are guys on that "tube" channel that show how to make one for a few bucks.

They work
Believe it or not they do work. Two things, when people say the nuts come loose and fall off. I used medium loctite no issues then also do not over tighten either that creates them to pull away from the wall as I learned. Other thing is after you set your siding on them loosen them and push back up just in case they get hit and move and they will. I was skeptical about them. So when your friends are busy. You got this!!

Get the right ones for LP smartside!
These are awesome! They pay for themselves within the first couple squares of siding you put up in reduced labor time.
Make sure you get the right ones for your siding thickness. I bought 7/16″ months before buying siding, and the lp product I used is 3/8″ thick. I threw the 7/16″ ones away and bought the 3/8″ ones and install is going perfect.

The only thing I noticed is that you have to pay attention when using the product. Make sure the product is pushed up firmly. This is a user error not the product. Keep up the good work. I would buy more when needed! Thank you!!!

Gecko gauge
Wow what a tool, I used these and done the whole gable end of the building on my own using cedral lap fibre cement cladding, lots of diffenent height settings so would most likely suit any board you put in, would 100% recommend this produc
Used these to put up lap siding by myself and they worked GREAT! Couldn’t have done it without them. So easy to use and makes the job easier and fast.
Been doing carpentry work for 30 years. I was loaned a pair to use bc I refused to buy them. Made the job easier and quicker. Honestly can tell a difference when these have been used. Wouldn’t do a job without them now.

I bought a pair of these Gecko Gauges for a shed-siding job last fall. It was the best investment I’ve ever made on tools: They worked flawlessly and allowed me to install siding by myself – something I couldn’t have done without them. When the job was finished, I sold them to another DIYer and recouped about thirds of my cost.
Work great, makes L.P. siding installation super easy for one person to do. Some install spots tip the gecko holder out and the siding falls behind. Very minor issues, doesn’t happen often but still an issue. Will be buying the other sizes
I really don't know how one could even hang LP siding without this product. It takes it from at least a 2 man job to simple enough my 14 year old did the whole side of a house by himself. Revolutionary! Just buy this product. I hope whoever invented it made an absolute FORTUNE!

Saving on time with Extra Hands!
Amazing bit of basic kit just another helping Hand! The only issue I would say is the back plate is made of metal and it can be difficult to remove from the board when the Screws are tight. But Not complaining
If your running lap siding of any kind you need a set of these. There adjustable to about any width siding. A little pricey for something made of plastic (that's why I gave it 3 stars for Durability) but seam to be well made.

Increases clapboard installation and will pay for itself in less than 1 job. Only criticism is I wish there was an adjustment for tension when locked. There are different material thicknesses and variations within the same material. I have modified with some removable nylon webbing to get more pressure when needed.
Handy tool for fitting cladding
What a brilliant tool to assist with fitting cladding. This ensures each board is the same distance apart and it allows me to work on my own as it holds the board. Worth every penny!!
A great time saver, making the job much easie
The product works very well indeed, but I ordered the wrong size, so have had to use a small home made packer in each one to make them grip which slows things down a little, but they are an excellent help and save so much time and effort. I am putting up a lot of cladding single handed and couldn’t do it without them
I’m residing my house and I’m able to hang 16′ composite siding by myself ( I’m 73 ). With the long lengths, you have to check that the jigs don’t slide down before you nail them, but everything stays level and even all the way up. I find that measuring is easier as well. You can use the jig to help support your tape, again making working by yourself easier.
If there was a way to adjust the “grip” on the siding, that would be nice, but — GREAT product.

Not perfect for cedral but not bad. Made cladding a double garage a breeze. Last time I had to get the wife to hold one end with a badly made jig.
Save your sanity and spend the money. Glad I did.

Habe mir fr Cedral Fassadenpaneele mit 10mm Strke das Modell SA90376, 7/16 Zoll, also fr ungefhr 11mm Paneele, gekauft. Zwischen Paneele und Spanner habe ich ein ca 1mm dickes Folienstck geschoben. Diesen Tipp habe ich brigens auch hier bei Amazon bekommen, das hat super funktioniert. Vielleicht htte das Modell fr 9,5 mm gepasst, aber die Lieferzeit wre mir zu lang gewesen. Ein Stern Abzug, weil die Hilfsmittel leichte Schleifspuren auf den Paneelen beim reinschieben und wieder rausziehen hinterlassen (weil die Hilfsmittel zwischen zwei bereits angeschraubte Paneele geschoben werden)

It sometimes allows the Plank being installed to fall behind the clamp itself. It will allow one person to install the Plank siding, but you have really be on your toes! 15 feet up on the gable end is no time to find out It doesn't work as it should!

There is a fine line between having the clamps tight enough to support the sheet you are putting up and being too tight and damaging the cladding you are attaching the Gecko to.

I pinned both ends and the middle of long boards, so that on the next course the Gecko gage would easily slide under that board. Then after pinning the next course I would go back and nail the previous course every 16 inches. Then repeat the process as I worked up. This way I never had any problem sliding the Gecko gage under the underling course of siding. Adjusts in 1/4 inch increments down to 4 inches to the weather but by inserting a spacer in the slot holding the siding you can go to spacing below 4 inches which was necessary for me in some places to match existing siding on an old house. Easily handles 18 footers. A great tool. I learned about these gages from a YouTube video. It would be good for the manufacturer to have a video on the web page where it is sold so first time users like me understood how to use it.

I know someone that had these and I was told how much easier it is to fit Hardi plank cladding with them. A two man job can become one if you have a set of these. They looked like metal on the pictures but they are actually thick plastic. They also have a fabric pad attached where the clamp holds the boards so it doesn’t mark the finished board. Very happy with this purchase. Could not find these for sale by anyone in U.K. so ordered through Amazon USA and they took 7 days to arrive! I was shocked as I expected it to be much longer than that. Great service.
