How to use Ultimate Protection Decking Oil

Before you start

The oil works its magic on dry days when the temperature is above 10°C. Make sure your decking is completely dry before you apply it too.

Application

  • Give the oil a good shake and pour the contents into a suitable metal or plastic container. If you’re using more than one tin, mix them together but don’t dilute!
  • Apply a generous amount of oil to the decking using a brush or roller. Paint with the grain and focus on three to four boards at a time to ensure you don’t get any overlap lines. Wait four hours for the coat to dry.
  • Once the first coat has dried, apply a second coat and wait four hours for it to dry.

And that’s it! Your decking is now oiled and healthy.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAt least half the price of places such as B&Q and Homebase. The tin was quite dented on opening, despite really good packaging, so that may relate to the price as I’ve seen other customers mention the same, but that didn’t affect the quality of the product. One 5ltr tin managed to cover all of our holiday home decking, front, sides and steps. It covered really well and looks fantastic! Our decking was looking very tired and faded, it looks like new now!

Have used this before, in fact, every year it really is good. Purchased it a few weeks ago but will not be using it until the spring bought it because of the price I usually pay double that so we’ll be doing the decking around about April. And I know from previous years I should not have any problems.

We have used this several times and have always been very pleased with the results so looking forward to getting on with the job.
Delivery very good arrived one day early, the only complaint I have is all the tins 4 off have been damaged dinted as if they have been thrown about although all the boxes where make in big letters fragile and well packed.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLarge decking area. Still got rail panels to do but provides a reasonable before and after comparison.

Very easy to use and great price compared to buying from well known DIY outlets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product at great price

Looked to see what was best for decking and this is what was advised. It’s goes on lovely and easy and doesn’t change colour too much but still looks natural. 2 coats and it’s protected.

This product is easy to use & apply. Use a large brush & you can apply a coat in minutes depending on the size of your decking. Clean your brush with white spirit to maintain a healthy brush.

Unlike other decking treatments, there aren’t any safety warnings about caustic or noxious substances or hazards to pets. Just don’t drink it and wash off the skin with soapy water.

I jet washed all the crud off the decking, left it to dry for several days, then applied 2 coats of this stuff as directed and worked it into the grooves. Easy but monotonous, I was tempted to spray it but then I’d have to brush it in to the grain anyway. It smells vaguely of cod liver oil but that soon disappeared.

Looks smart but the proof will be in several years time.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersThis goes on well, spreads well, goes far and leaves a great (waterproof) finish. My old decking was in serious decline. It was green, wet all the time and murderously slippy underfoot. Some of the timbers were heading for replacement. I applied firstly a product to kill all the algae, moulds, fungus and moss. Then I brushed the worst of the debris off, replaced parts that had gone too far and applied wood hardener and filler to areas that were still salvageable. I then power-sanded the whole lot, to get back to really decent wood and open up the grain. I then applied timber preservative that soaks deep into the wood and keeps working over a long time (2 or 3 years) to keep the algae from coming back. When the timbers were again fully dry, I gave it a final light sand all over, then a good stiff brush and applied 2 coats of decking oil in Neutral Oak. The first coat soaks in and straight away you can see the grain of the wood. Once really dry, the second coat is more easily applied and you don’t need so much as it doesn’t soak in as much as the first coat. The 2 coats leave a really nice finish and the rain just beads and runs off. It’s no longer slippy underfoot and looks great. It will need doing with this each year and then a more significant overhaul probably every 2 or 3 years. Much cheaper than replacing it with new decking. Pleased with the result. Also, it’s easy to clean the brush in warm soapy water. No need for powerful solvents.
