About Us

“What do you think about going into die casting?”

It was September 1943 when this proposition was brought to Ryobi founder Yutaka Urakami.

The proposal came from the manager of Mitsubishi Electric’s Fukuyama Works in Hiroshima . Yutaka, then operating a small trading company, was no technician and, with no knowledge of die casting, had to ask “What’s die casting?” The manager explained and Yutaka immediately set to work reading about the process, learning about it from scratch.

After this momentous conversation and careful consideration, his reply to the manager was decisive: “I’ll do it.” This decision came just one week after Yutaka heard the term “die casting” for the very first time.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHaving changed my old B&D cordless combination drill for a Ryobi 18V One two years ago, when my Bosch 34 LI died this week, I naturally looked to the Ryobi 18V+One range of garden tools, as I have several batteries already. Of course when one looks into these thing you find out that 18V they all may be but some tools require a bigger AH battery. So 1.5AH drill batteries really don’t “cut the mustard or the grass” very well. All that said, I found the assembly a piece of cake and whilst I only had half of a lawn to mow, the Bosch had managed half, I couldn’t wait to start. On with the grass box and away we go, well no not quite. There is the little matter of removing the cutter deck isolating assembly to allow the grass to flow into the grass box. Removing the grass box ( having isolated battery ) and opening flap all you see is a curving slipway of black plastic which at first glance looks like part of the whole cutting deck, except for a little black knob. ( No tittering please ). Pull and I mean pull on this and a whole section of the deck comes away to reveal grass channel from the blade. I think this will most likely never get reattached as I always use a collection box. Stored in the shed just in case. This mower is quiet, almost to the point of “Is it working”. Light and easy to use. I cut higher than normal just to reduce the overgrown grass. The a second pass on level 3 was perfect for my garden. Now all I have to do is get the Bosch bit and Ryobi bit to the same height. Only one use so can not comment on durability save this. The Bosch was a 2004 model, so 19 years of use. Heavy ( very ) , 36V battery and undoubtedly a heavier motor. The Ryobi doesn’t feel flimsy, well it does after the Bosch, and is unlikely to last 19 years, but equally it’s unlikely I will last 19 years but that dear reader is a tale for another day.

I was dubious in purchasing a battery powered mower as for 20yrs I’ve always used a self propelled petrol mowers from when I use to be a gardener. Firstly I noticed the weight difference it’s very light which is easier for me to handle as I’ve got health problems now so it really does cut down on a lot of effort for me. Secondly the power is great I have a small front garden and a large back garden no problem with cutting and I used 1 full charge and 1 half charge on two 4.0Ah batteries and the grass had 3 weeks growth. Set up was very easy and very easy to clean and put away I do miss a self propelled mover but I can get over that so I’m very impressed and happy with my purchase.

Bought a whole set of Ryobi ONE+ tools following a shoulder injury as could no longer use petrol ones due to the weight. This makes mowing the lawn as easy as going for a leisurely walk and it’s easy to keep it nice with more regular trims as it is no effort.

Finding a lot easier than a cord lawnmower more easy to use cheers

Easy to assemble from the box. Have used it 3 times and happy with the cut and ease of use. I bought the bigger 5Ah battery to avoid need to recharge but even though we have a smallish lawn this needs recharging after about 20 minutes which is a bit disappointing

mowing the lawn has to be cut more often as the cutters i find is set to high , been good in the dry weather, the lawn was kept nice and green . a good mower ,would have liked the battery to last longer , as it happens i have tools made by the same Co. I use them if I run out of gas .

Despite checking on website etc the battery isn’t quite up to covering the area required. Need to charge and cut grass over two days/stages. Trying to source a cheap second hand back up one.

Battery has plenty off life unless your intending to cut Windsor Great Park, light and mobile two compartments for battery one is for spare battery so only one battery powers mower, as you look at pictures looks like two batteries power the mower but one’s a blank space for spare battery should you be miles away from the house and don’t fancy the walk back just replace with spare.

As a woman of an older generation I found this easy to put together out of the box
It is quite long the handle but I managed very well
And to empty was also ok

I have a lot of the Ryobi one+ range and this mower/strimmer combo is a very welcome addition! They are both brilliant, used my 5Ah battery in the mower and it sailed through my lawn with ease! The grass was pretty long too! It’s so much better to use than a corded electric mower too! Makes quick work of the lawn. Would highly recommend this, worth every penny!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe massive positive is no cables & it gives a decent cut, two 6.0 battery’s used & drained one grass had been cut two weeks previous. If you’ve got Ryobi tools then it’s a no brainier.
Negatives include no rear roller which is disappointing & would have been more disappointing if it wasn’t on offer, cut is decent as said but it’s not as good a cut as my Bosh total of +10 years – all said I’m happy as convenient with not getting extension & cables ou

After previously owning a Flymo battery motor until the battery failed and realised you can’t buy a new one (don’t buy Flymo) we decided on the Ryobi one mower. Out of the box it is easy to assemble ready to use quickly. Batteries charge in a couple of hours.
Battery life (4ah) is around 25 minutes. We purchased an extra 5ah in case one wasn’t enough but we have only ever used one to cut the whole garden but we have faith that the batteries will be widely available for a while yet. Only fault with the machine is that it will struggle in longer grass but we keep our grass short so not an issue for us and it doesn’t fold up very small for storage. But all in all it’s better than a Flymo!

Really well put together mower, replacing my bosch plug in. It is so much easier to mow not having to bother with the cable. You have to be sensible with the cutting heights, start at a higher cutting height and work your way down. Cut 8 inch grass on a number 3 and then finished it on a 2.

Bought this to replace a corded mower that needed 25m of extension cable added to the mower cable to reach all our grass. Already had Ryobi battery system (important factor in choosing this). We can easily cut all our grass with 2 x 4Ah batteries, leaving enough charge to pop the battery into Ryobi strimmer to do all the edges / under hedge etc.
It’s so much quicker to cut the grass without having to unwind cable, manage cable during cut and then rewind cable. My son gets grumpy when I ask him to cut the grass, but he’s not grumpy for as long with this mower!

So lightweight and easy to use. Leaves the grass lovely. I was apprehensive to buy this product but I now look forward to mowing the lawn rather than dreading it.

    Excellent
Should of brought one years ago
Lightweight powerfull and excellent battery life
Cuts grass better than my previous petrol mower,
And the best thing is there now is no excuse for the mrs not to mow the grass

It’s easy to use battery time not as good as others
It could do with going a notch lower as tends to flatten grass in some places
But it’s great being cordless and grass collector is good and easy to use I have
I have more if this make +1 so can swap batteries around

Easy to push and love the different heights. It seems very well made. Battery had to be recharged after I had done my back garden and got halfway through the front.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersBottom line: very happy with this mower. My house lawn is only about 100 square meters but it makes cutting it simple. I replaced an old and reliable corded electric mower which got the job done. However, this unit is lighter and the provided battery only shows 1 tick on the battery consumed after a normal cutting. I read some reviews that said that their mower did not pick up grass well – they must have left the mulching plug in – this thing works very well to collect grass and leaves.
I upgraded to be able to take the mower to our chapel and cut the grass there. It has a convenient handle for lifting it (lighter than the old one) and the handle folds in a snap to fit in the back of my Zafira. The first mowing at the chapel had waited too long and the grass was at least 1 foot high (seriously). While it went through 2 batteries to cut about 50 square meters, it did cut it. The grass catcher is a very good size and holds a lot of grass.
The mower does feel a bit light/”plasticy”. However, it is holding up great so far – do not mistake light weight with weak or flimsy. Though it is not a cheap mower, it does what you want an electric to do: convenient, lightweight, portable, good at cutting grass. Now that I have the Ryobi battery packs it may be time to look at some new tools to plug them in to …

I am delighted with my mower. I purchased it along with a strimmer. It is so much easier than my old ones with cables. The mower is light, easy to use and does a neat job.

Only used once so far but works very well, used less than 50% of the battery cutting my small front and rear gardens so lasted better than expected.
Much more convenient than a electric mower that i had previously

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLight, manoeuvrable & cuts well. Good battery life. Quiet. Perfect for our 100m2 lawn – battery would be good for much bigger lawn. Wish I’d got rid of old petrol mower ages ago

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersReally surprised at just how good this is. compact, light , easy to use. cuts really tight to walls and edges.

only negative is the flimsy feel of the handle and triggers. they dont fell particularly goog quality.

now purchased the body only strimmer.

    Cordless is the future!!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersYou know you are going to get a quality product with Ryobi and this is no exception. Came well packaged and assembled in a few minutes, battery charged and ready to go. The mulching tool is a great addition and the six different heights should suit all gardens. It does take a bit of manoeuvering around tight corners so only 4 stars for that, otherwise a great product and one I shall hopefully use for years.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI bought this because Ryobi were doing a 12 tools for christmas deal and I was going to be needing a lawnmower for spring anyway. First impressions are good, well made, relatively light, folds down compactly and as part of the ONE+ range the battery interchanges with my other kit. The true test will be spring when I get to use in earnest, if there are any problems I will repost, otherwise 5 star.

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersThis mower is much better to operate than a corded mower. No extensions to get tangled up in. Obviously it won’t cope with really long grass bu as long as you cut regularly it will be fine. You need 4ah or 5ah batteries though but a 5ah will cut a 13meter x 8meter lawn. If your lawn is bigger or you have more than 1 lawn then get two batteries. Please note that the blade needs sharpening before use and you also need to take out the plastic mulch plug if you want to collect grass

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersI was a bit worried this would be a flimsy unit and not up to much, I was wrong. Does the job perfectly, light weight, pickup of cut grass is good and being able to use any of my Ryobi batteries with it makes it great when it runs out. Would recommend
