Bought 4TB FireCuda for game storage and 1TB Barracuda for file backup. This is my observed difference in write speed performance while encrypting the drives at the same time. Honestly, if you plan to go for FireCuda, I’d suggest to go for top storage option available as it’s cheaper over the long run.

    FireCuda:
    -Average: 250MB/s
    -Best: 300MB/s

    Barracuda:
    -Average: 100MB/s
    -Best: 150MB/s

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI purchased this SMR HDD to replace a CMR HDD in my NAS. As I use my NAS for write once, read many (WORM) operations, this disk has been perfect. I have had no issues with performance and the drive has been online for around 30 days now.

The prices are up and down a lot at the moment but I would recommend waiting out as I got a good deal when the price dropped down.

I’m using this in an external 3.5″ HDD enclosure (actually a repurposed case from a long-dead external drive), and it does the job for me. I did a full read-only surface test when I got it, before using it properly. It took about 3.5 hours to do the test and showed no errors.

At my time of purchase in August 2023, the 2TB version is still CMR, which is a big plus for me, and increasingly rare in this day and age.

The drive was not all that well packed, residing in a plain cardboard box with an additional cardboard cradle inside, presumably for protection. Amazon’s own outer packaging left a lot to be desired: a bigger cardboard box with an inadequate amount of paper used as padding. That being said, the drive IS working.

Bought this with a new SSD (also 2Tb so it could total to 4Tb) to work as a backup drive to store lesser important files and older games that wouldn’t get improved since a modern solid state.

Its cheaper than a SATA SSD (using the same port) so i chose it over a second solid state as it would be put under heavy stress often if ever making it ideal as a secondary drive that can still fit in morden laptops as it is a smaller 2.5inch (which ramps up the cost, if your on a desktop I’d recommend a 3.5inch as it wouldn’t make much if any difference).

I wouldnt launch windows off a hard drive like this though, M.2 would be ideal for that but if your motherboard doesnt have a M.2 port a sata solid state drive would still be lots better than a hard drive but as a backup or spare space drive it would be better as it wouldn’t be as dear.

Not much to say, worked perfectly straight away. Storage space is as described and performance is perfect out of the box. Won’t be installing games onto it but for general storage, it is fast enough.

Windows wasn’t able to recognize the empty HDD. You need to use the disk management partition tool on windows. Otherwise pretty good!

Be mindful that when you first allocate the drive that it splits into 2 2TB ish partitions.
Just create both partitions as GPT then merge the 2 together to have access to the whole drive 4TB 🙂

They make no noise and have the same storage. They state no catches and work fast overall I cant argue they are good and probably the best you can find for the price.

The Seagate 2TB 2.5-inch Hard Drive is a perfect companion for gaming consoles with double the capacity of most stock consoles. I bought the 2TB drive for my PlayStation 4 as it is the largest capacity I could fit into my console (without resorting to an SSD) and has proven to be a reliable drive for my games. Highly recommend for any use case. (WARNING: If you are considering looking at larger capacity Hard Drives for your device, check the height of the drive since any capacity above 2TB makes the Hard Drive double its lower capacity counterparts. Making them unusable for Xbox and PlayStation consoles).

Its not a bad hard drive but maybe because im used to using SSDs it seemed quite slow. Maybe for secondary drive would be ok.

What is there to say? It’s a Hard Disk at the end of the day with a lot greater storage than I already had. However, it arrived very quickly and works like a charm. I am lucky in that I was able to image my old disk drive onto it, but it went flawlessly. It’s a SATA disk so it’s a little noisier than an SSD but I already knew that and there is something quite soothing hearing it whirring away knowing that it is functioning correctly. It’s a cheaper option too so it suited my budget.

Needed to replace a similar drive that failed a few months after the warranty period ended. Have a number of them in a few systems and they seem to have a fairly good lifetime. This was the best priced at the time so bought it.

Using this in a secondary NAS for video files. I’ve used Barracudas in the past and none have let me down, although they don’t run super quiet. For for my primary NAS with more important things I’d only use a dedicated NAS drive.
Not too bad for the money but prices are still falling per Gb.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersI have used Seagate Barracudas for 12 years and found them to be a fantastic all-rounder, having great reliability and lifespan. I use them both in the house network drives and the Home Theatre library. I have even committed the cardinal sin of changing the orientation of a set of three year old barracudas from horizontal to vertical, when the library enclosure backplane failed, and they just continued on in the new enclosure with zero errors. Most of my Barracudas run 24/7, and on average they last for 8 years. But even as they get to end-of-life, they have never just failed, they begin throwing up the odd error, to let you know they are almost done. In my experience, you have about three months from the start of the drives giving errors, to more serious problems. But if the drive is around 8 years old, it has pretty much done it’s duty. The only thing I would warn you about, is to make sure that the barracuda (or any Seagate hard drive) arrives in the proper Seagate transit box shown in the pictures. This is the official Seagate packaging, and will include the Seagate warranty booklet. I mention this because I was tempted by a supplier that was slightly cheaper than the official Amazon-supplied drive. What I received was a barracuda inside a heat sealed anti-static bag, but it was loosely packaged in a generic cardboard box without a warranty card. These drives are sometimes ‘harvested’ from other devices, such as Seagate Expansion or Backup units. I returned the drive and bought the slightly more expensive official Amazon-supplied drive, as these always arrive in mint condition. I will not make that mistake again. The official Seagate boxes suspend the hard drive on all sides inside the box, helping to ensure it arrives in perfect working order.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent hard drive. Just make sure it arrives in the correct transit box with a warranty card.

bought this drive to replace my older model of the same brand….

After installing (very easy) and set up on my computer noticed more noise coming from the drive than the pervious model when writing and reading.. and think when it goes into low power/standby and comes back on makes bit of noise.. other than that does as it says…

Dont think its faulty.. or duff drive just think its little more noise everything seems to check out…

Overall would rate this drive very good

I bought this 1TB HDD as secondary storage for a self-build Windows PC which also has a 250GB SSD. This disk was a replacement by Amazon for another of the same type which I couldn’t get to work, and didn’t show up in Disk Manager or even in the operating system if I used diskpart followed by list volume. Well done Amazon for replacing the product so quickly. Out of the box, this HDD did show up in Disk Manager and Device Manager (but not Windows File Explorer or diskpart/list volume). I carried out a quick NTFS format using Disk Manager, labelled the volume, and then the HDD was up and running, showing in File Explorer etc. So far the HDD is performing well and speedily, and the purchase was good value. Great customer service from Amazon too.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI dabble here and there in content creation and I found my hard drive would fill up very quickly when encoding videos at a high quality. I have found this product to be a great way to solve the problem I was having. I’ve now used this drive for almost a year and it has been nothing but consistent. Files load fast (not SSD speeds but that’s to be expected) and transferring large quantities of files between drives has been quick and painless. For gaming, this drive is adequate but you wont find the blistering speed you’d expect with M.2 NVMe drives.

I would recommend this drive for storage more than anything else, but that doesn’t mean that there is no versatility to this HDD. It’s a great quality product, quick to setup, and I’ve observed no drive errors in the time I’ve owned it.

If anyone gets this drive, installs it, and can’t see it in your list of available storage, make sure you format and mount it using Disk Management on Windows devices.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersThis is a great drive or a horrible drive depending on your use case!

    Pros:
    *Great storage capacity
    *Reasonable read speeds
    *Well packaged
*Passed all memory tests on arrival
*Very cheap for the storage capacity

    Cons:
    *Shingled Magnetic Recording drive
*Slow write speeds (Considerably slower than Conventional Magnetic Recording)
    *Incompatible with NAS arrays

Do buy this if write speed isn’t important to you, for example If you don’t plan to use any form of linked storage like NAS arrays etc. SMR is incompatible with NAS.

This will work well as a steam game library if you play simple smaller games that aren’t regularly updated. If you play games which take up 200 gigabytes of storage space and get updated every week please avoid. SMR drives overlap data, meaning that writing information needs to be overwritten as many as 3 times over instead of once with CMR.

Check your potential purchases against a list of known SMR drives (this technology applies to all manufacturers, not just seagate) for peace of mind. You may well kick yourself later if you don’t.

    Review 1.
This 3.5″ Seagate Barracuda 2TB is a basic HDD without ‘hybrid’ SSD enhancement, thus not fast enough for gamers or a modern PC. It also uses SMR technology, another reason why it should not be a system drive on a PC. The speed ratings were about right when I checked it on my PC.

Installation is as standard. Capacity is the usual amount. Power consumption seems to be as usual.

The drive arrived well packaged in its antistatic bag deeply cushioned inside a complex folded cardboard box, all very green, no polystyrene anywhere.

However, my application was in an old Humax HDR-Fox T2 because its HDD was approaching full, and was therefore moved across to an external caddy for occasional access. This new 2TB drive is working consistently in the Humax. The video files are all large, consequently fragmentation is less of a problem than with a PC, and the Humax data rate is sufficiently slow an SSD is not necessary.

    Review 2.
I also bought a 2.5″ drive, so Az forces me to review it in the same section!

The Seagate ST1000LMZ48 2.5″ 1TB BarraCuda is a modern simple high speed hard-disk drive with a 128MB cache. It is not as fast as a Hybrid or an SSD. I bought it for use with a rotation-set of colour coded weekly back-up caddies stored off-site so absolute speed is low on my list and SMR is not a problem with wipe all and rewrite..

Drive Management in W7P or W10P formats the new drive in less than half a minute, giving an NTFS formatted working capacity (non-bootable and without O/S) of 1,000,068,635,870,144 bytes (931GB).

After a thorough search taking some time the standard block check failed to find any bad blocks or sectors.

Big file transfers are limited by the caddie’s USB3 interface but still approach the maximum speed of the drive at about 100MBytes/s write and 60Mbytes/s read, depending on how much directory access and fragmentation there is, even so I am very happy with this drive.

My samples were made on 1st August 2021 in Thailand, bought 4th December 2021 in UK. Manufacturer’s packaging is a miracle of cardboard origami and the only plastic is the sealed anti-static bag the drive travelled in.
