Arrived next day as a prime member, well packaged. I use it every day at work cutting boxes open and cutting down shrink wrapped pallets of boxes with the slot on the bottom edge that allows the shrink wrap to enter and cuts it as you pull it down, with the blade retracted. button at back push in to open storage space in handle to store stanley blades. has a large loop at back that I have attached a quick release catch to attach to my belt loop. Also very sturdy been dropped multiple times on to concreted floor and not shown any sign of damage. Blade can be changed quickly with a button on front of knife, fully extend blade hold blade and press button you can then pull blade out. Good slider button to extend and retract bladed, totally safe so blade will not come out while in your pocket. Good solid heavy feeling. Made to last.

Strong robust product this.Easy to use feels good in the hand however I read in the purchasers reviews of the difficulty with the wrapping,I to found unwrapping a challenge but perseverance paid of and am very pleased with my purchase Don’t let the comments about the wrapping out you of this is a very good knife.

It’s a fantastic Stanley knife, it just takes a bit of used to, removing the blades, thankfully there are a few youtube videos that get to the point and talk you through the process.

Don’t take it apart! packaging is ridiculous, Stanley ( Black & Decker ) Need to revisit it. After 3 of us tried to remove it I checked reviews, got irritated & cut the cardboard where it shows to pull… Nonsense instruction! it worked a treat, easy to install a blade with a bit of jiggling.. Hold the blade with cloth or gloves on. Once you get used to it it is a quick change, not the best blade I’ve had but it seems robust , time will tell.

I got this and was very worried that I’d need to take it apart to remove the label, after reading reviews.

Cut the label, pulled it and it was out

Blade was a little fiddly to put in to start with, but didn’t take too long to sort it out

Haven’t tried it yet, but seems quite sturdy

Been using these knives years, read reviews and thought this can’t be that hard surely,YOU DO have to take the knife to take packaging off, video it coming apart (for dummies),watch back on your video to re assemble it with ease

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIt seems like a nice robust product which is easy to hold and change blades.
The challenge is to get the cardboard label out. It you want to take the label out intact, you have to disassemble the knife which is what I did. However once I took it apart I could see the the label would slide out easily if I had cut the label as close to the top of the handle as possible. You need to avoid leaving a hook of cardboard which can catch when you try to slide it out.

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersTerrible instructions with the knife. Hope this helps

    1. The blades are STORED in the body. They do not automatically feed through. Just in case you were wondering how it worked (like me)
    2. To remove packaging. Push slider all the way forward. It will stop two thirds of the way along. Push down on slider, move it back slightly and then push down harder and slide all the way forward to the end.
    3. Push in yellow button at side and pull packaging out
    4. To access where blades are stored. Push black button at rear hard down and pull bottom part down. Blades are in here. Push it back in place. It clicks
    5. To remove a blade. Push slider all the way forward. It will stop two thirds of the way along. Push down on slider, move it back slightly and then push down harder and slide all the way forward to the end.
    6. Press yellow button. Remove blade
    7. To add a blade. Leave everything as it is. Press the yellow button. Slide blade in until the top edge of the blade is completely inside the knife. Let go of yellow button.

    8. One final point. If you push the slider all the way to the end (see 5 above) the blade wobbles a bit. Pull the slider back to hide the blade, now slide it forward. It naturally stops two thirds of the way along. In this position the blade does not wobble.

    Hope this helps.

I have owned several Stanley knives over the years but have never encountered one so awkward to deal with. To access the blades – once you’ve managed to fight the ridiculous cardboard insert!! – the black button at the rear of the handle needs to be pushed all the way forward. This I found impossible without using an implement to force the button along far enough to release the two halves of the handle and reach the blades. Unscrewing one screw to separate the two halves of the old style Stanley knife and replace the blade was so much easier than this ridiculously involved system!! Yes, the knife is solidly built and well designed ergonomically but for ease of use… no way!!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersSo the knife itself (now that we figured out how to take the packaging off) is good. I needed it for cutting through boards for model making. It does the job. Also cuts paper very easily. HOWEVER. the packaging is a joke. The instructions on the packaging itself are no help at all. Heres how to do it: You have to press down on the black button at the opposite end to the blade and at the same time pull on the lower black plastic part (this is the blade compartment). Then once this is open you will see two screws. unscrew these and the knife comes apart. the card comes out of the knife as a whole piece so this is the only way to do it correctly. I have seen some reviews state that they just pulled at it and this worked however some people have said that this caused the card to break apart and get stuck inside the mechanisms so this probably isn’t the best idea. Good luck.

4.0 out of 5 stars The packaging is terrible

Golden Review Award: 52 From Our UsersI have used Stanley knives in the past and found them clunky and awkward to use, and as for changing the blades on the older models by having to take the knife apart – nightmare!!!

But this new generation of Stanley knife is superb! It is still a chunky, heavy tool but feels well balanced in one’s hand, and is supremely comfortable to hold, and I don’t have particularly large hands for a woman. It is robust and feels solidly made.

The small recess in the bottom of the knife enables you to (as some reviewers have pointed out) cut string etc. but it is perfect for stripping electric wiring!

The rubber thumb rest almost forces you to hold the knife correctly, safely, and in an ergonomic way for the best cut. Brilliant!

Having the spare blades in the knife handle compartment is an added bonus. No more hunting around in tool boxes and drawers!

Changing the blades is a doddle. I really can’t see why some reviewers have complained about it. Provided you push the slide right to the top, it’s then simply a matter of pressing the yellow button in the side and sliding the blade out, and sliding a new one in, until it clicks.

As to the packaging, once again, if people took ten seconds to examine it, they would see that there is a section of the card in the slider bit that is perforated. Give it a good hard tug, the perforation breaks and the card is then easy to just slide out of the knife. If you click on the photo below, you can see the break, on the right hand side of the card, just at the top edge of the image of the blade, indicated by an arrow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solidly good tool
