Everything was quick and easy. Just plug into USB port, install the recommended driver and pair bluetooth device = done. Works/compatible with my PC (Windows 11). In terms of range, I would say around 2-3 meters from the bluetooth adaptor which was similar to my built-in bluetooth macbook range (don’t know if that’s considered “long range” but similar to its competitions).

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFor those who having issues to get it to work. Like connection drops out or things just don’t work.
Try plugging it in a USB 2.0 port(not a blue USB port), ideally get a USB 2.0 1m extension lead. So it away from the the other PC ports and other dongles you may have on your PC. (I read about that USB 3.0 ports are the main causes for interferences and issues with these dongles.)

I’ve been troubleshooting this for a half a day when I got it, no issues for the last couple days now since it’s plugged in an USB 2.0 extension lead.

This Bluetooth adapter/dongle, made by TP-Link, is ideal for connecting wirelessly to your router, or any other Bluetooth enabled device. The signal is strong and reliable, and the instillation is as easy as plug-and-play! A+++++

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt’s cheapest one that actually works. Dont expect great range across multiple rooms in that price. If you just need a bluetooth to use devices in the same room this dongle is perfect choice.
If you encounter any issues make sure you have installed driver from TP Link as Windows being Windows can sometimes mess things up.

Used to connect keyboard and mouse. I tried a cheap BT dongle and it was unreliabel and very furstrating This worked perfectly out of the box, no issues. worth paying for.

Just plug in – Windows 10 automatically installs driver. Easy connection to my two different Bluetooth headphones including a Sony WH-CH720N. Pretty good sound quality. I had experimented first with a couple of products from other manufacturers and was disappointed. This tp-link Bluetooth 5.0 Nano USB Adapter just works from the moment you plug it in! Wow!

When the adapter is plugged in & up to date, you have to go on Settings -> Bluetooth -> + Add bluetooth or other device & reconnect your devices. They won’t auto connect as it’s a new adapter/device.
    Works great, thanks

All you need to do is plug it in, and it’s done. It appears on Windows as a built-in Bluetooth. Quick to connect, has no drops and has excellent range; I loved it—a great addition to my old laptop.

I have Bluetooth enabled hearing aids. Listening to anything on my HP pavilion Windows 10 PC meant using headphones that is uncomfortable over my hearing aids. The parcel arrived while I was listening to something on my PC. I unpacked it plugged it into a USB 3 slot removed the headphones the Bluetooth symbol appeared I clicked on it asked for Bluetooth devices, it found my hearing aids, I asked it to connect and hey presto it worked. This is a wonderful product for old pcs that do not have Bluetooth installed.

After spending a ridiculous amount on a Dell XPS laptop, the network card went faulty leaving me without any Bluetooth (very common and Dell will do nothing to help!?) – I finally just got this. Works well!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt isn’t Bluetooth 5, but that isn’t an issue. It has better range and reliability than my phone, which is pretty impressive for a 10 product. Would recommend. It’s hard to get wireless connectivity right, especially since 2GHz is so overused, but it’s good to see that TP-LINK still holds up.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have bought this adaptor to use with my earbuds.
    Pros:
-Plugged in drivers already there (Windows 10)
-Low latency, far less than almost any other bluetooth devices I’ve used.
    -Small
    Cons:
-Not great for music, quality just isnt there.

I use it for Gamepads and phone connectivity, and well as file transfer.
Even though its at the back of my PC, against a wall, it works very well and I almost forget that it is there

My pc was missing Bluetooth, so I use this to connect my headphones to it. On Windows 11 setup was 2 seconds and completely hands of after plugging it in. Range is not the best, 8m’s or so, with clear line of sight. Doesn’t go through walls either, but for sitting next to it I had no problems. Haven’t used it for input devices so can’t tell if there is a lag.

This was recommended Bluetooth dongle recommended for Sony headphones, doesn’t pair at all, other Bluetooth headphones connect fine.
update, have now paired Sony wh-1000xm4, windows 10 go you Bluetooth settings, add Bluetooth device.
turn on headphones, then hold to turn off but leave a few seconds and wait to hear them saying pairing, release button and then should find them, connect all done.

Windows 11 Phone Link now works with iPhones (it previously only worked with Android). However it needs Bluetooth which my PC didn’t have. An old BT adapter from yesteryear paired ok with the iPhone, but wouldn’t work with Phone Link. This little device gives the latest Bluetooth functionality and so solved that problem. By the way, TP-Link website says UB5A = UB500.

worth every penny. Have not had an issue on my desktop using the Soundcore Q30s as a headset for over a year.
Works like expected. provides bluetooth to a none wireless/bluetooth motherboard.
Windows automatically set everything up and installed the correct supported drivers.

Around 2021 I needed a Bluetooth adapter to mirror the tv to my computer, it worked great.
So. May 2023 it stopped pairing even though my device’s could see it!
Did the usual checks and updates etc.
As nothing helped I thought I’ll get this newer one.
It works great and has solved the problem for me.
    Happy days…Cheers

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe quality of the TP Link UB5A is excellent. It’s been a pleasure to use this as a daily driver.

It keeps the connection to my bluetooth headphones very stable. There is a little delay but I don’t notice it too much. Overall, I am pleased with what I have recieved and I’m happy with it.

I mainly bought it because my headphones support Bluetooth 5.0 and will not work lower than that for some reason, which is why I turned to TP link, which is always good at offering the best products for what you pay for.

I bought this because I have a good pair of wireless headphones that needed a wire for them to be connected to my pc. I’d rather not have an extra wire on the pc and so that it’s not a worry.
This product solved this great, it never disconnects by mistake at all (unless you walk far away from it).
I’ve had it for about a month now and it works like gold.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBought a Bluetooth headset and needed a dongle to use withy PC. The audio lag between my device and the dongle was massive and not suitable for any type of gaming. General pc usage was ok but I even noticed some desynchronisation in films/YouTube. Cannot be sure if it was just the headset or just the dongle but tried numerous headsets and it was largely the same result.

Used instead of built in bluetooth on lenovo laptop which had mysteriously stopped working and couldnt be prompted back into life with driver reinstalls etc. This just worked as a straight replacement (and is a bit more solid that the built in one)

Maintains connectivity to my hearing aids much better than my motherboard’s on board adaptor.

Decent range – I can wander downstairs, so about 10m, through 2 walls and a floor.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMy first impressions of the product was how well the product was packaged. I bought this since I have never been able to use my pc with Bluetooth due to my motherboard not having it. This little product paired amazingly with a Usb hub so it can up one of my spots but I am still able to connect other things like my phone or Vr headset. In my opinion this is a fantastic little product with good range and audio connectivity. There is a bit of a delay with sound but this is an issue with most Bluetooth headsets connecting to a PC.
In all this product was really good and I highly recommend if you are looking for a cheap Bluetooth solution!

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersIt works fine with Linux Ubuntu 20.04 but it was complaining for missing firmware (run dmesg -w and connect dongle -> observe messages).

In my case it complain that it miss “rtl8761bu_fw.bin”, you can link the one which is there.
    I’ve disconnected the dongle.
    $ cd /usr/lib/firmware/rtl_bt
    $ sudo ln -s rtl8761b_fw.bin rtl8761bu_fw.bin
    $ sudo ln -s rtl8761b_config.bin rtl8761bu_config.bin
I’ve reconnected the dongle back to USB port. Done!
Loads fine in dmesg and works OK.
-1 star for missing official support of Linux/Mac systems.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis was the second bluetooth 5.0 adapter I bought, and it didn’t solve the problem I was having connecting my bluetooth hearing aids but I did eventually work it out.

When you connect a second device to it, the sound from my PC in my bluetooth hearing aids breaks up. Like I said, this device was my second try and a different brand so I’m not sure if the same problem follows with all USB bluetooth adapters.

The bottom line is that I can only use this for one device, my hearing aids, if I expect the sound to not cut in and out. Not sure what that means for bluetooth wireless headphones, but be wary.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI first plugged this device in with trepidation as it’s labelled for Windows PC’s. Initially nothing. Damn, another product that doesn’t work on a Mac. But then I decided to google it to make sure I wasn’t being too hasty.

I can’t take credit for this find, but I can share the knowledge. Before you even fit the dongle to the Mac follow this process:

    1) Hold down the ‘cmd’ key on your Mac keyboard and then simultaneously click the mouse over the bluetooth icon on the top right hand side of the screen. After a second or so an expanded bluetooth menu appears that lists the Version & address of the Bluetooth adaptor in your Mac. Take a photo or make a note of these values.
    2) Get a wired mouse & keyboard (or a suitable non bluetooth dongle alternative like a Logitech alternative) and plug it in, then go into the bluetooth menu and turn off the bluetooth on your Mac by unchecking the on / off button option
    3) Turn off the Mac
    4) Plug in the new TP link Bluetooth dongle
    5) Reboot your Mac
    6) When back into iOS, if you know what the equivalent of the command key is on the wired / wireless (non bluetooth keyboard) you are now using (I think it’s ALT on a Win keyboard), go to the bluetooth icon at the top of the screen and click ‘Cmd’ (for Mac) or ‘Alt’ (for Win), then simultaneously click on the bluetooth icon with your mouse. When the expanded Bluetooth menu appears you should now see different Version / Address details in your menu bar (e.g. the bluetooth module in the Mac has been replaced by the TP link adaptor). If it doesn’t, repeat steps 1-5 above
    7) Now go to the Systems Preferences (grey cog) icon , then go to mouse, and add a mouse – whilst it will add it, it won’t work straight away – I don’t know why, but you then need to go to the Bluetooth settings menu and ‘Connect’ it. It takes a good few seconds but eventually it kicks in and works
    8) Do the same for keyboard / magic trackpads in the respective menus, then connect in the Bluetooth menu
    9) add any other peripherals directly in the bluetooth menu
    10) That should be it, you should be good and done. I haven’t tried it yet but I assume you just remove the dongle and re-enable Bluetooth with it disconnected to re-enable the internal bluetooth. No coding required, it seems to work. A dead giveaway was when I saw a Bluetooth speak from another floor in the house appear in the ‘add a device menu’. Sometimes I was struggling to connect devices 3 feet away as the Mac mini 2018 Bluetooth connectivity issues are widely documented.

Best of luck getting it sorted, but I can now happily report no mouse / keyboard lag !!!! What was an unforgivable oversight by the Apple engineering team has now been resolved with a 10 dongle. Unforgiveable!! Thank you TP Link / Amazon!

UPDATE 01-Dec-20 : Ended up returning as periodically the Bluetooth would switch back to the internal unit despite attempting the config string inputs into Terminal.

In the end I ended up moving the MacMini onto tall rubber feet to elevate it from the table, and placed it directly in front of me. It’s still not perfect, but it’s just workable . What’s worse still, the 2020 Mac Mini still has the same issues so it’s not been resolved.

Golden Review Award: 49 From Our UsersThere is nothing wrong with the product itself, and it ought to work well in plug and play with native drivers IF windows 10 Bluetooth support didn’t let it down. That’s apparently no fault of this product, though, so I haven’t marked it down, and there is a workaround.

    1) WHAT HAPPENED TO ME USING WIN10 PLUG AND PLAY: Product installs immediately. All drivers present and correct. Paired an audio speaker successfully. But wouldn’t play, and in sound control panel it persistently said the device was ‘disconnected’. The internet is absolutely full of people reporting exactly the same problem, and loads of suggested “solutions” that simply don’t work – I tried most if not all of them! After further research – likely cause is that it seems until Win 8 Microsoft left it to hardware device suppliers to provide their own Bluetooth stack software, but from 8 onward Microsoft implemented a plug and play driver solution within windows itself. But this is inadequate/incomplete in some respects and they are currently working on completing it – no immediate solution therefore unless manufacturers provide 3rd party drivers.

HOW I SOLVED IT EVENTUALLY: TP-Link claim to provide pre-Win8 drivers for the UB4a but the link on their website doesn’t lead to drivers! However they often talk about UB400 at the same time, and UB400 does offer a driver in the support page for Win 7 and below. I decided to risk trying it with this product on Win 10. Result: it installed perfectly first time and the product now works with devices exactly as expected. You just have to right click the Bluetooth icon in the notification area to gain access to the Bluetooth functions, as obviously this software predates win10 and is not integrated into the win10 native bluetooth interface. The driver software is badged as “CSR Harmony Wireless Software Stack” and although it is a bit long in the tooth, it is a perfectly acceptable substitute until Microsoft get round to finally fixing their inbuilt bluetooth software stack driver.

UPDATE: I need to revise the above having just taken delivery of super Bluetooth Headphones which I’ve reviewed elsewhere. These DID connect to this product when using Win10 plug and play mode without any additional driver. My previous attempts had been with an older Bluetooth cube speaker. So, as other reviewers have said – you might be lucky with plug and play. Seems this may depend on newness of Bluetooth item to be connected. Or, probably for older Bluetooth items, you may need to resort to the older driver as described above. I guess it is down to Windows not recognising/supporting older products – another example of software-driven product obsolescence keeping landfill busy and manufacturers happy. Well I don’t give in that easily! My Bluetooth cube speaker lives to fight another day.
