Vamoosh 6-in-1 Washing Machine Cleaner, Dissolves Hair

 

Did exactly as item destribed, made my washing machine clean and smelling fresh. I don’t normally spend this much money on washing machine cleaner but needed to as it was smelling bad which fixed it!

 

After I’ve washed the dogs bedding and even though I wash the washer a couple of times before putting the household laundry in, there are always plenty of dog hairs. This was the first time I’d used it and it worked a treat. I was worried about my electric bill because it had to go on a 90c wash, but I don’t like having dog hairs in my underwear so it had to be done.

 

Three months ago I got a new washing machine as an insurance replacement, but despite being a great machine overall, it has already had problems with blockages and subsequent bad odours due to poor design. Namely the drain pump impeller being behind a plastic casing making it non accessible, but there being a gap between the impeller and the casing where small objects can get trapped. One blockage was so bad it needed an engineer visit but because a 1p coin was found in the impeller by the engineer he had to put it down to my error. Three weeks later and the manufacturer’s customer services finally admitted it is a design problem, I looked into it and found that other owners have had this issue too, Beko customer services claimed that a new drain pump assembly had been designed and sent an engineer over to fit it but it turned out to be a lie on their part that they were hoping the engineer would play along with as the part they sent him with was identical and he and Beko’s repair partner confirmed no such new drain pump assembly existed.

So I decided to give this a go six weeks ago now. In the past I used to use another famous brand washing machine cleaner but it really worked due to containing borax and after this was severely restricted by the EU and removed from the washing machine cleaner it definitely was nowhere near as good.

I had to use this on the anti-allergy cycle as that is the only fixed length long cycle that lets you set the temperature to 90c and that does not adjust for the weight of what is in the drum (if the weight is nothing due to the drum being empty, it reduces the time down to under an hour, which is obviously no good). There is a specific drum clean function too but I wasn’t sure how well it would work with this.

I didn’t find it foamed excessively as some others have said, though I do have a 10kg machine hence a larger drum, and run an extra rinse cycle on most washes due to the family having sensitive skin so along with the machine being pretty new this means there are little to no detergent residues lurking in and around the drum. I would suggest if you think there may be a lot of detergent residues in your machine, then to run a completely empty long hot cycle with just water before trying this or any other washing machine cleaner, and if you have a very small machine perhaps only use half the sachet.

The door and seal are very clean on my machine already, so I can’t comment on how well this cleans those. I was a bit worried that this washing machine cleaner could turn the door cloudy as the inner door on my machine, in common with many other new machines is actually acrylic and not glass, but it hasn’t at all.

Smell-wise you can’t really smell the lemon but I bought the lemon version more because it had same day delivery. I actually like the smell of oxygen bleach powder, but straight from the sachet this doesn’t smell like that or remotely pleasant, presumably from other ingredients it has. In use and afterwards though it smells very neutral and just clean.

First impressions are that it has made a definite improvement and cleared out the innards of the machine well, as it smells very fresh, but I will have to run a few more cycles of different lengths and types to really make that judgement.

Update: Six weeks after my first and only use so far, I can say this has definitely made a huge difference to the overall freshness of the machine and we have had no more blockages either, I think only using colour catchers in a net bag and being extremely thorough when checking pockets has helped with that, but I think this product has helped too, even if only partially. I have accidentally left a couple of loads in for over 12 hours before hanging them up to dry and they were fine whereas before using this they would have smelled funny after just 2-4 hours, even with the machine being very new. I plan to use this every 6-8 weeks from now on.
