Some people are saying the paper stencil is wrong.I found it to be correct..the end which touches the ground has an adjustable foot which when screw inside is slackened it can be adjusted to suit. When you reach correct level ,tighten the screw inside the rubber foot.job done. I would buy another if needed ,,a very good idea.

Bought this to hold open the garden gate. It is particularly windy where we live and the gate would slam closed really hard. This works absolutely brilliantly holding the gate open and is so easy to release with just one touch of your foot.

Great item. Easy to fit and even came with a template for where to drill holes.

I have this on an outside door subject to a fair amount of wind always trying to slam the door shut. This simple and effective hold works extremely well

Compared to similar kick door stops this is an attractively finished and sturdy product, worth spending the extra, especially if used for an inside door as opposed to a garage.

The one drawback I found in fitting it was the paper template which illustrates drilling holes measured from the bottom of the door. On the first attempt, following the template exactly, I put it down to the small gap between the door and the carpet but this also soon proved to be inadequate. On third attempt I simply judged it my hand.

If the kick stop is not attached low enough it won’t work. I would suggest, if buying it, to hold it against the template and slide both down until the restraining leg is firmly against the floor. It is obviously better to overestimate this than underestimate. Then keeping the template in position, drill the holes.

On the photographs with the restraining leg lowered, you can see where the holes have been drilled on the first attempt (per the template) and below that the second attempt.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality product; template may mislead

Whereas other types didn’t grip on shiny floor tiles, this one did. Great.

After a lot of research I chose this gate stop as it was the only one offering a pedal operated retraction. Great piece of kit. Holds a heavy gate well and a snap to retract it with your foot. No sign of rust. Like new after a couple of months of use.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI cut out the installation template, placed it on the door so that the template just touched the floor (as per the instructions), drilled pilot holes, and fitted the door stop.

Then kicked the door stop down and watched the door close (it has a door closer). The door stop didn’t even touch the floor !!

Had to remove and reinstall by eye and now it works fine. Next job…fill/paint the unwanted holes in thew door. Grr.

Don’t rely on the paper template, make sure the stopper is in contact with the floor before making screw holes. Fit it correctly and it’s well worth the time it takes.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersCheck the positioning when it’s down to ensure a good fit.
Unless you have a spring-loaded door, it doesn’t need to be pressing hard on the floor.
The rubber foot seems to twist down a little, if needed.
Does the job and looks in keeping with my brass door furniture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don’t only rely on the template

I needed another one for another door but the one I bought previously had gone up double in price so thought I’d try the Amazon basic. It does the trick but I drop one star as the other one seemed a bit more robust.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHave been frustrated for years trying to wedge open the door to the garage, which is on a self closing hinge. None of the wedges really worked. Purchased this hands free kick doorstop to see if that would work. It arrived very quickly. It seems substantially made, looks great and it was very easy to fit to the bottom of the wooden door. It works a treat! It is the easiest door wedge to use, and great because I don’t have to muck around at the bottom of the door, I can open the door and ‘kick’ the wedge down with my foot. It stops the door completely. Very easy to unwedge the door, just tap your foot on the top plate and the wedge folds up. Very occasionally the spring sticks and it doesn’t immediately fold all the way up, but you just lift the end of the wedge with your toe and then it springs up. A great value wedge.

Surprised how good it is – really held the door on a slippery tiled floor.

The screws supplied were pretty useless, so easy to strip they may as well have been made from cheese. Other than that, great product.

Golden Review Award: 22 From Our UsersThis is a brass kick stop for a door.
It works well and feels solid in use.

The foot pedal to release the stop works really well and requires no effort, so this would be suitable for use by an elderly or infirm person.

Fitting is straight forward, with a couple of provisos.
The foot stop comes with a paper template, that you can cut out and use to get the correct height for fixing. You can then attach this to the door and mark out the fixing holes.
Make sure the bottom of the cut-out is touching the floor, NOT the bottom of the door, else you will be incorrect in your measurement.
I chose to mark my holes manually using a measure and a spirit level.
The length of the cut-out provided shows 91mm from the bottom of the paper to the bottom of the attachment bracket.
This is fine if your door will be over carpet.
However I found that this is too high on a smooth floor such as lino.
The foot does sit nicely on the floor, but there isn’t enough friction between the rubber foot and my lino floor.
I lowered the measurement 2mm to make it 89mm and that works perfectly.
Even the strongest wind doesn’t shift the door.

Unfortunately, the screws it comes with are very poor.
I stripped the heads on all 3 with only mild pressure.
So, I strongly advise you to use other screws of your choice.
As you can see from the Photo, I used Forge Fast torx head screws. I highly recommend them, but any decent screw will work fine.
I used a 4.0 x 30mm screw, which sits nice and flush on the bracket and gives very high holding strength.

Overall, I would say this is a good buy. It works as intended, but do be aware of the fixing requirements needed, depending on your floor surface.

I hope you found this review helpful.

This kick door stop from the AmazonBasics brand is a well made item that is supplied with fixing screws, a mounting template and fitting instructions. It is nicely finished in chrome with a rubber grip to lock it firmly in place — it features an easy to operate foot lever and a decent spring. It needs a bit of thought before fitting to get it mounted in the correct position, and it is really designed to be fixed to a wooden door. I have used mine to secure the external wooden door to my garden cabin where it works as expected when it is windy. Currently unavailable at the time of this review so I am unable to comment on value-for-money — I would think around a tenner or less to be about right — but for design and performance I rate this AmazonBasics 4-Inch Hands-Free Kick Door Stop with five stars.
